bet u wish all interviews were as easy as ace. i always thought he was the soul of the group.
Great interview! Ace is definitely a legend on his own merits. One of the most important rock guitarists in history, but rarely given the props for it. 🤘🏻
Thank you!
Very well said
14 yrs sober God Bless you Ace
Sp'ACE man living legend ! 🤘🎸
Wish I could get there, myself! Congrats Ace, on 14 years of sobriety.
14 years without a drink thats amazing awesome!!!!!!!
Slash got him drunk on Jager bombs a few years ago. Fact.
Ace has been sober for 14 years - for the past 14 years!!
Ace Frehley. One of the most famous names in Rock.
"Ace Frehley, lead guitar, vocals... Whooa!"
-Paul Stanley
Very much enjoying this series of interviews. Thanks Ace. You are a great story teller.
Great interview and thank you for not asking the same questions
Love this comment! Thank you!
Long live the space man! ACE!
ACE FOREVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ace .... lots of great songs and riffs... Great memories through the years.
i love the fact he used the word catalyst....the ace solo album is my favorite kiss album and i love them all....
Great interviewer. Ace looks comfortable talking to him. Cool stuff as usual with ACE.
This comment just made my day. Thank you!
Torpedo Girl..great! Awesome on that sobriety. I agree with Ace about The Elder...good record, wrong time.
Ace please do a live album. The versions that you play of all your songs live is so killer, so kick ass The last few shows you have been on fire and your shows sound like your back playing in 1975-76. Your fans would love and appreciate a live album brother. 🤘😎
I bought "Elder" in summer '82 and *always* liked it. I played it for some friends at the time who were also impressed with it, saying things like "It looks like there's hope for KISS after all!" I don't know why it got the bad rap it's always received. It's always amused me how Ace's songs have the best guitar solos! Hmmmm.... How does that happen??? LMAO
Love Ace. Funny guy, great guitar player and he seems to not know it or care. Kind of guy to have a drink with. Even if now a soft drink😉
I loved Ace's solo stuff during the 80s. In my opinion his stuff was a lot better than most of the stuff KISS was releasing at the same time (after Lick it Up there were just a handful of songs on each of their 80s albums that I enjoyed, most of it not really catching my attention).
Sorry for the shock Ace, but thankful for the shout out to my home, Lakeland, Florida!!
amazing video 😌
Thank you!
I like the candles in the backyard!
Sept. 15th is my birthday I turned 54 this year,, Congrats on your sobriety Ace!
Ace does some great interviews. In regards to the Elder, that was my first record I ever bought as a kid after seeing them on Solid Gold & Friday’s. I was blown away! Since then KISS has been my favorite band. Ace was my favorite. I thought he was the coolest when performing on Friday’s and Solid Gold performing “I” snapping his fingers, etc.
Funny you mention the Elder. That album was kind of one where Ace didn't get much input on the album, which is too bad because in my opinion he was the most creative musically...
@@jamesbottger5894 I agree , he does mention an Elder box set he would like to release which I would love to get my hands on one day.
You should re-watch the Solid Gold appearance. During "I' Ace does a triple twirl behind Paul. It's cinematic.
The Elder rules!
Agreed! Music From The Elder is 1 of my top 5 favorite KISS albums! It is an Underrated Masterpiece!
Cool interview brings back a few things.I have The Elder and Unmasked on cd and Double Platinum too.In the early 70's I was nearly electric utensils too.I was grabbing onto an electrical fence but was able to break free.I got shocked playing guitar years ago.Well happy 14th on september15th.I bought a 32 Track recorder and I'm very pleased with it.Ive been asked the same question over the years how did you do that?Couldn't answer that question off the top of my head too.The strangest thing these days I'm not able to do it the same exact way twice spontaneous really I'm cool with that. However Ace you're like a brother to me.Have a cool one
Michael McVay
I was at that concert in lake right up front center stage when ACE got shocked. Funny thing is, about a year later I read in a teen idle magazine that kiss put ACE up to it, that it was all fake. But who knows.
Awesome love u ace
Love this guy ;)
The interviewer screwed up. Ace actually had 3 songs on Dynasty. 2000 Man, Hard Times and Save Your Love
I meant Ace-written lead vocal songs, given "2000 Man" is a Stones cover.
@@RyanJDowney_ thanks and the interviews have been great. Nice to see you're not asking the same exact questions everyone else asks.
@@rockAndrolljunkie thank you! That means a lot!
@@RyanJDowney_ The Stones' original version of "2,000 Man" was just a demo they recorded for Ace's convenience and reference in the future.
where any of the demos in between the elder and unmasked or during the elder talked about? even just about that time after unmasked especially since it was mentioned on australian interviews they were working on a harder album? it would be interesting to hear more about things like deadly weapons, certain elder instrumentals that seemed to be ace and eric focused, songs like every little bit of my heart which supposedly was the orginal song to the riff of a world without heros, and if the songs off killers were also a part of such though the only one i have heard was so, was nowhere to run. though maybe hes unable to talk about it fully or at all due to it being under kiss or something like that.
its cool to know he mentioned that he thinks his solo/guitar work are really good or that he mentioned he enjoys it disregarding the era. i figured he wouldve never listen to it again and maybe other kiss things because some interview i think it was mentioned he doesnt really listen to the songs he works on that much, i think it mightve been because hes working on and playing them anyways for albums and audiences. the fact the album is considered the least heavy completely but the instant you start the album, the first song being the oath is one of their hardest songs with or without the falsetto especially being pre-creatures (and i think the ending part of the falsettos only goes into making the song heavier each time). i wonder what he thinks about the oath and i, that had to be something like the entry song to the movie or something just because its kiss and same with i for ending or closing the movie. i also think erics drumming is amazing on that album, especially if thats their first not indicating the work after unmasked and pre-elder.
There are zero live albums that are not overdubbed kiss alive was probably the best live album ever
Every time Ace tells that story he always says "electrocuted"
Tickle my brain with a chicken feather you brute x
The on,y good thing on the Elder is Ace.
You didn't like world without heroes lol
Side note. My buddy and I were just talking about how scary Detroit Rock City was to us at 11 years of age. My first 45. Cheers from Canada!
Ace plays bass?.... The ace of bass ;)
Don't worry ace utube r goin down the tubes lol
Love Gun actually came out in 77. Dynasty actually has 3 Ace lead vocals.
I misspoke re: 77 but with Dynasty I was talking about Ace songs with Ace lead vocals (2000 Man is a Stones cover).
Yes, and you clarified later in the video. Good interview with original questions foe Ace!
@@gabedennis358 thanks!
I get why Unmasked was called Unmasked but why was Dynasty called Dynasty, who came up with that title.
Dynasty had 3 ace songs
I'd love to hear what Ace has to say about Creatures.
Check out the next installment! ruclips.net/video/b77KiscW5vs/видео.html
@@RyanJDowney_ haha I did right after!
Love Gun came out in 1977 not 1976.
Yes, I misspoke.
Love gun was 77 not 76. Obviously a big fan.
Corrected it in the caption and description before this was even posted. Please forgive me for making this huge mistake during this 90-minute conversation about 40+ years of records.
I thought Ace was the singer on Cold Gin. So how was Shock Me the first song he sang on?
Ace wrote CG but Gene songs it in the first album in a drunken vocal vibe cause we all know Gene doesn’t drink
Then the same with Parasite Lady, right? I always thought Ace wrote and sang that one, too.
@Robert Martin "Rocket Ride" is *the* reason to own and play "Alive II". Hands down, best song on the whole double-album... and it even charted as a 45 in the US Top 40! How did that happen??? Regardless, I'm glad it did.
@Robert Martin "Rocket Ride" is a *scorcher*!
@Robert Martin I like Ace's "Shock Me" solo in the 1977-09-02, Houston, Summit, (2nd night) concert vid! :)
SpaceBASS! Frehley! wow it wasnt Gene on the 1970s albums??? and Gene played it on stage.
Love it Loud was the last decent song KISS ever made. Gene and Paul are fooling themselves in the Kisstory A&E show. They needed Peter and Ace to come back
Perhaps you should listen to Asylum again.......great 80s Kiss record.
Love gun was 77
Yep, this has been answered before in other comments.
@@knotfest I don't read all the comments lol
🐉⭐⚡🐈KI$$
Ace had 3 songs on Dynasty. How does this guy call himself a KI$$ fan and not know that
I wonder if Ace is getting "The Nurse" tonight.
Ace didn't play on alive 2.. so he started talking about alive 1 and tape loopin around and this and that. Lol..
Ace didn't play on the new songs on Alive2. He did play on the live portion of the album. I saw the Alive2 tour in 77 in Omaha with Ace as the guitarist on stage. I have ticket stubs from 76 and 77 and Polaroids of Ace on stage
Did I hear Love Gun 76 and Chalk Me? WTF
I did misspeak when I said 76 -- and corrected it in the caption and description. I did not, however, say "Chalk Me" LOL.
Don't you just hate it when the interviewer doesn't know a thing about the subject matter.
Ace did 3 songs on Dynasty.
2000 Man.
Save Your Love.
Hard Times.
"2000 Man" is a Stones cover. I was referring to songs Ace both wrote and sang.
@@RyanJDowney_ I'd never heard the Stones' original version when I was a teen listening to "Dynasty" at full blast volume in my bedroom. OK, so Ace didn't write "2,000 Man" but he certainly made it his own. I'd even say Mick and Keith wrote it specifically for Ace without even knowing it at the time.
I'm part German know some german words a quite a few words I never liked beer.
Beer is okay, in moderation!
I thought Love Gun was 1977?? 🤔
Yes, I misspoke. It happens. It's correct in the lower third text onscreen and in the caption.
It’s all good.👍🏾
@@stookeyslaughter 😁
Everyone says Jimmy Page is god and Ace is not but Aces solos are memorable and you can hear and every note Jimmy sounds like a child practicing and you can’t even make out what noise you are hearing 🤷🏻♀️ Ace still sounds amazing
Please 🛑
I'm a fan of both Ace and Jimmy but you're right. Jimmy's style is very "slurred" and "sloppy" by comparison. In '79 kids used to argue over who was better, Ace or Eddie. Jimmy never even made it into those discussions!
I thought aces solos were mesmerising and just briallant countnt stand led zepplin boring
@@terrythomson6941 I was as big a fan of Led Zeppelin as I was a fan of KISS back in the day. I found excellence in both. They were definitely different from one another but uniquely excellent, each in their own ways.
Do your homework, Love Gun was '77
I misspoke. Corrected it in the caption and description before this was even posted. Please forgive me for making this huge mistake during this 90-minute conversation about 40+ years of records.
The key statement - "I worked a little harder on solos back then." Its obvious. I believe 1980 was when he started to just wing it. The solos start to lack ideas.
Dude has got to get a different chair
True.
LOL, nice mustache.
Thanks, I guess? Haha.
Love Gun came out in 1977 study better
I misspoke. Corrected it in the caption and description before this was even posted.
KISS had a prog rock album? 😂😂
Very disappointing (and refreshing, at the same time) to hear Ace admit he cobbles together solos. I've done some recording and I REFUSE to edit a solo together.
Tge Eddie Kramer records are the best. Including the 78 Ace solo record. The other 3 suck.
No ACE...No KISS
i love Ace. But he is INSANE if he thinks that he is a better guitarist now. lmao... all of his solos sound the same now. The best Solo he has done since 1980 is on his new album doing a COVER of Good times bad times...It actually “ shocked me” that it was so good... now watch it not even be his lead and be John 5 or someone hahaha
