"Destroyer" was the first KISS album I bought with my allowance and my all-time favorite.
I bought kiss alive cassette and my friend bought rock and roll over 8track with
Our allowance
Rock N Roll Over was my favorite, Cover art was Awesome, Destroyer Next... can there be a tie?
Same here! First record I ever got!!!
KISS albums were paid for with the allowance of little boys for sure
Rock and Roll.over also has special meaning to me..First album I ever bought with my own money. The artwork was fantastic as well and it came with a vinyl sticker sheet that I put on my bedroom closet door.
That was the first album I ever bought with my own money, too. I still have it, framed on my wall and still have all the freebies including the sticker!
RARO is their best album...best songs, raw guitar, bass, and drum sound/tone, minimal production, and great vocals. A band at the top of their game.
@Dave Ravies I guess I'm a bit biased towards Destroyer as it was one of the earliest records I ever heard back in 1976. It's funny how impressionable we are as children but it was ingrained in my brain after hundreds of times playing it on the hifi record player. My older brother had many rock records and as is typical in most households the older brother dominated and dictated what was listened to on the turntable. Either that or fear the impending wrath of wedgies, farts in the face after being pinned down on the floor or nuggies to the head...haha.
Rock and roll Over is so good and his 78 solo sound similar thanks to Eddie Kramer! Was never a big fan of Destroyer but Rock and roll over is Kiss at their best with the original lineup. Awesome job interviewing Ace too! Can't wait to hear him talk about the next few albums
Thank you!
I agree 100 percent.
Kiss is my all time favourite group and
Destroyer is actually one of my least favourite albums.
"When Bob told us to do something, we did it!" Ace
I remember Paul presenting God Of Thunder. Bob said to Paul "Great song. Let Gene sing it!" Probably a wise choice because Gene's vocal is appropriately menacing.
William Langan the drum work on God Of Thunder was wicked
Aces vibrato on those records was fantastic. For those nonguitar players it's a technique used mainly on solos ..shaking the string/strings to emphasize a note or notes. I'd rather here one note with sweet vibrato and feel the passion and soul behind it then some gunslinger playing at a bumblebee speed 100 notes per second.
Destroyer is a rock and roll.classic. Im biased to it since it was the first rock album I ever heard as a kid and first I played air guitar too. My older brother had the album and we played it all the time. I took it to show and tell in first grade and remember playing a few songs on the little classroom hifi record player and holding up the album cover proudly. Miss Reynolds was very kind and nonjudgmental to my record selection even though I'm sure she must have rolled her eyes afterwards..possibly at home lol
Mysterio Marvel I couldn't agree more about vibrato and the power of "one note" being a guitar player myself I will often see "how much I can get out of one note" and it can be amazingly creative and powerful and such always inspires me to no end end when I hear it. That's a pet peeve I have, there are more technically proficient guitar players on the planet now than there ever was "some just kids" but, a million notes a minute for a whole song, it's exhausting to listen to and has no time to breathe. Music is all about what speaks to you personally and that's what makes us all different, many younger musicians I know feel if it isn't a million nots a minute it's boring, Zeppelins "Four Sticks" is one of my favorite Zeppelin tunes and there's "NO Solo" in the song. But anyways..........
@@aschule5684 I couldn't have said it better myself.
I remember staying up to watch KISS on the Paul Lynde Halloween special in 1976 and KISS Meets the Phantom in 1978...great times and memories from my youth
Ace frehley is one of the most influential axe men ever! Damn near all hard rock bands guitar solos have sum of aces signature sounds ..
Mysterio. That was the beauty of Ace style. U could hear and repeat out loud every note he played. He could rip it, like on his solo album but in between shredding he always was bending and stretching his leads with feeling and his own unique classic timing.
Great Interview! Thanks.
For me it's rock n roll over that's a great rock record and cover
Also awesome.
Ace looks and sounds great. Him and Jimmy Page..low slinging Les Pauls and my favorite guitar players.
When I think about Kiss I think about Kiss Alive.
Great interview ! ACE is the cooooooooooolest ! 😎😍
Thank you!
Eddie Kramer... Lets set up a live setting and "I'm going to mix the most dry studio sounding album ever."
Wow, Ace used the words "dichotomy" and "indicative" in the same sentence and correctly too. He looks good too. He was always my favorite.
He says those words a lot. I've heard him use them in other interviews..
Thanks great inside info ace is an ace 😃🔥❤️
Glad you liked it!
ACE FOREVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Lance Wells ..either did you lol.
Thanks!
Bob Ezrin to me was George Martin on Destroyer
Great interview style Ace doesn't always answer the question but still gives entertaining answers.. RnR Over is my favourite too Maybe Ace gets to it eventually
Thank you!
Ace seemed more interested in talking about the recording of his solo album. I was hoping to hear more about about the other 2 KISS records, as I don't care about their solo albums, not even Ace's.
@@arthurbishop3173 Well 45 years of talking about the same stuff gets old. He's looking forward.
Ace will always be Ace...destroyer was my first Kiss album and still sounds excellent
Paul "Ace" Daniel Frehley 🎵🎼🎶🎼🎸😎👊
Intro and outro music sounds like Exodus....Toxic Waltz.
Made by ruclips.net/user/creepshows
Hope Ace revisits the "COMET'" era stuff like "RISE UP BACK FROM THE GRAVE" (SPOTIFY) for re-release!
HEY CURLY!!!!!!!!!!!
Ken Kelly who did the Destroyer album and love gun album paintings was influenced by Frank Frazetta..did you know Ken is the nephew of Frank Frank frazzetta's wife..Eleanor .His original artwork has sold for millions of dollars.
I'm familiar with Ken Kelly but didn't know about that connection!
Funny Ace zoned out for a minute lol
rachael drove ace crazy!
Destroyer was first record I ever bought. Then got into fight with my mother and she snapped it in half. Was a fan until Dynasty. Now kiss just four dudes in makeup.
My Other question to Ace would be, did you guys overdub any tracks on Kiss Alive?
Hey Ace....this interview you said you recorded your 78 solo album in Connecticut , but on your Eddie Trunk interview you said Radio City Music Hall.
I loved Ace's solo stuff during the 80s. In my opinion his stuff was a lot better than most of the stuff KISS was releasing at the same time (after Lick it Up there were just a handful of songs on each of their 80s albums that I enjoyed, most of it not really catching my attention).
Huh? Peter always sang. Its not like Beth was his first. He sang multiple songs per record.
@dcc Clinton nothing to lose, black diamond, mainline, strange ways, getaway....all were out before beth hit. Hard luck woman came out after beth.
@dcc Clinton I wouldn't understand anything either if I was attempting to troll.
Destroyer was the best kiss album , Ace Frehley had the most Talent in that band , without Ace kiss wouldn't be a top band in the 70s
It would be great if Ace had Gene’s memory. I wanted to hear about Rock and Roll Over, he talked about his solo record. Oh well.
He also skipped over Dressed to kill and talked all about Alive 1 on the first interview lol
I know Bob Kulick helped with doing demos of Rock and roll over but Ace played everything on the album
Robbie Starz yeah, I’m sure Ace played all the guitars on his solo record. Obviously you already know the only reason Ace & Peter didn’t play certain parts, or certain songs on the later albums was because they either didn’t show up or were too messed up on drink or drugs. I can’t imagine either of them pulling that crap on their own solo records. And even if they did, I’m sure their producers just would have cancelled that day’s session.
I bought Dynasty when it came out, didn’t really like it, then went and bought Peter’s solo record because it was the only one I was missing. I was 11 and stopped listening to them after hearing Peter’s record. I was also into Van Halen and Led Zeppelin by then, and KISS just didn’t do it for me anymore. I got back into them in ‘94 when the covers album KISS My Ass came out. But in the mid-80’s I was into thrash & then death metal. KISS lost me for about 15 years.
Robbie Starz yeah, I saw that in the other video, lol. I was hoping to hear about Dressed to Kill and was a little disappointed.
Just wanted to say one more thing. Rock and Roll Over was recorded down the street from where I grew up about 45 minutes outside New York City. I was total fanatic at that point and a few weeks later, my dad saw an article in the local paper about how KISS had been recording at the Nanuet Star Theater earlier in the year. Dude, I was so bummed out that I didn’t know! All these years later I’m kinda glad because I prob would’ve been there every day and gotten banned or something. Lol.
@@russellszabadosaka5-pindin849 very cool to hear that! You had to be excited back in the day
I always liked rock and roll over better than destroyer, my favorite is dressed to kill, then this one being my number 2 favorite, it was overlooked because of the success of destroyer, only released within months of each other.
Are these interviews current? Within the last year? Just curious
Yes, they're less than a month old.
John. Yeah most recent. Ace may be slowing down....still a cool , historic fountain of info and infectious laughs...
* Electric Lady Studios
D'oh! Mixed it up with the Hendrix album.
not me alice 2 was Always the one on my mind...
Bob Ezrin was the man!
Ha! Hilarious how Ace calls Matt Sweeney “some guy” lolz
@gibsonman121 google him
Peter Criss sang on songs before Beth.
Destroyer is the least Ace album [shouldn't have went on and on about it].....glad he got to play again on the next two.
Ace talked more about his solo record than Rock and Roll Over, which I personally feel to be the original band's best sounding studio album, especially the guitars. Kind of a disappointing interview; I would have loved to hear more about individual tracks, like Flaming Youth, for example. Was it Ace's idea to play that riff in 7/4 time?
Frank Frazetta, sounded like that got flubbed
Are you trying to block something out in the background or is that Satan's orb?
It's a weird green screen thing with Zoom haha.
What's wrong with Ace's wig up front?
What do you mean?
Ace must get tired of answering the same questions 10 x over. Die hards already know the answers.
They only know the answers because somebody asked, and there’s always new fans coming aboard. Don’t be so closed minded.
@@yungchill69 thank you!
I believe going through his entire discography, from KISS to Frehley's Comet to his solo records, is a unique approach. Perhaps you'll agree once you've seen all six episodes.
Ace is a genuine authentic , such a cool guy with ego in check. All time great! He loves his fans and knows they love hearing him answer the same questions as many times as they have heard them.
Ya know..i think it's gotta be a little bit of a chore..all the time but it depends on who is asking..this guy is definitely doing it the right way....a guy like ace definitely doesn't mind talking about himself..and being respectful to ace I think helps
how much music knowledge for a plumber
Intro music was good. Better than kiss.
Is there consensus that Gene's songs are officially the shit kiss songs ?
