The New York Dolls had booked a tour of Canada in 1974. They hired The Michael Quatro Band to open for them. (Michael Quatro happens to be the brother of Suzi Quatro, who is better known to some as Leather Tuscadero, Pinky Tuiscadero's juvenile-delinquent little sister "Happy Days.") At the last minute, The Michael Quatro Band dropped out of the tour, and were replaced by KISS. It turned out to be the 'Dolls' worst nightmare, as Peter Criss auditioned for their vacant drum spot two years earlier, but they decided on (his best friend) Jerry Nolan instead. So, propelled by the vengeful drumming of Peter Criss, KISS totally BLEW AWAY the 'Dolls. When KISS exited the stage, they'd pass the 'Dolls in the hallway of the venue, Peter would pat Jerry Nolan on the shoulder and say, "Sorry, Jerry. Ya know I love ya,, but 'cha know how it goes. Biz'ness is biz'ness."

He is the sweetest most giving and humble rock legend you'll ever meet-he truly loves and appreciates his fans. In my opinion one of the best drummers of all time. And his beautiful wife Miss Gigi is the most generous, sweetest lady you could ever know. Team Catman!!!!!!
+TheBzg07 Yeah, I loved his 1978 solo album even though his style of music was distinctively different by comparison to Gene's and Ace's and Paul's. It was unfortunate that Peter's solo album was the lowest selling of the four which ultimately led to his decision of leaving Kiss in 1980. However, he truly is an incredibly talented man and I love his music. Long Live The REAL Catman!!! ~Dutch
+YouCantHoldOnTooLong Yes, Peter's album was quite superior. I'd written many of the songs for KISS and not once have I received any credit. Peter was the most honest and congenial of all those jerks, no matter what horrible things they say about this marvelous artist. I remember when I was in the studio with Peter during the solo record sessions he barely needed any of my help. I maybe helped him through a few mild arrangements but nothing to the point where it was necessary for credit but Peter insisted I get some kind of credit. When it came time to design the album covers as well as the typical credit to enigneers, etc. Peter requested my name put on his record as well as Gene and Paul's (Ace was the only member who I had not worked with on the solo projects) but they refused and almost credit a horrible mess of a law suit. The band kept so many of their songwriters under wraps because they wanted to bring this mystique that they had written every track for every record as a collebrative effort as every band would but with KISS this was never never will be true. They are frauds!
4 mediocre musicians formed a 100% kickass group. It´s kinda like what he says, it was the time and the place that made kiss. New York . 1973 Amazing times to be a musician i bet.
Mediocre musicians? I highly disagree. Gene Simmons is the most underrated bassist in rock n roll history. Nobody ever talks about his playing and his bass on all the 70s stuff was golden. Ace Frehley could take a song and throw in the right riff. Peter Criss's solos were amazing in my opinion. Paul Stanley s vocals are just so good, I can't describe it. These guys had talent.
You can get all kinds of perspective from others, but the one I lived out ranked Peter Criss as a major influence on me as a young drummer in 1976. I played along to Alive II mostly, and Peter’s solo on Alive I, and developed all of his chops. Meanwhile, I played along to Ron Tutt, Ginger Baker, Neil Peart and albums from Boston, Frampton, Foreigner, etc., but few had the musical vibe, life and vocals of Catman Peter! 😻Long live rock! ❤🤘🏻😎🎼🎶🎵🎸🎤🥁
Peter's Grandmother lived on the corner of Euclid Ave and Ridgewood in Cypress Hills Brooklyn. I lived two houses down. I was only a young pup and used to sit on her stoop and wait for Peter to show up. He is the truth not Paul or Gene. Peter is a stand up guy.
When Peter mentions his friendship with Jerry Nolan, he underscores the actual nature of the New York music scene of the early '70s: i.e., that the Dolls, Kiss, Wayne County, Ramones, et al. emerged from what was fundamentally the same milieu. The historians like to de-emphasize that fact, but it's obvious if you listen to the groups back to back to back. Any child can hear the structural similarities between hard rock/metal and what came to be referred to as punk. (On the other side of the Atlantic, Pete Shelley of Buzzcocks put it this way: "Punk evolved from sub-heavy metal played badly.")
They're all interesting guys each in their own way. I think what really causes all the hard feeling among fans is that at the core, there is our fervent wish that they'd all been successful and kept thrilling audiences and fans. After KISS Ace and Peter really faded out of the music scene, but for a couple of Frehley's Comet albums. It's like we feel cheated, that break-up from the band or not, Ace and Peter should have continued to be superstars, together or separately.
+jfrsnjhnsn WHAT I BEEN HEARING ACE IS DOING QUITE WELL MUSICALLY AND SO IS PETER THEIR BOTH SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR OWN WRIGHT THEY STILL HAVE CAREERS AND NO ONE HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT THEM NOW IF THAT ISNT SUCCESS THEN WHAT IS??
Wow, absolutely the best interview of Peter I've ever seen. My opinion of him just went up several notches. Paul has derided him a number of times for not being a brainiac or intellectual. Perhaps Peter doesn't always use proper grammar or syntax, but neither did Jimi Hendrix. He (and they) understands (understood) the human condition, and the world around them. Intellect and wisdom aren't necessarily synonymous. Peter displays wisdom here.

Great story!!! Thanks for sharing!

What a nice guy.
my favorite drummer to watch...saw Kiss 5 times...he bounced off his seat playing...like a dance...i would sit with binoculars watching..looking at his make up and watching his arms move...it was really cool
Peter est un gars avec un cœur il est vrai tout simplement juste, sincère et droit et ça ne plaît pas à tout le monde 💜❤
Best interview by ANY member EVER! This was too damn short.
Here was the stuff that jammed Kiss music... his history with jazz, then turned up to 11! Sad process that pushed Peter and Ace away
Peter had the best voice in KISS. Amazing rock singer.
***** ok ...the other two guys are great as well. Actually I have perfect pitch. A rock voice is by definition NOT pleasant sounding. Not that rock singers can't sing pretty but that's not what it's about. Heard Peter live...the fucking guy CAN sing well and is not tone deaf....with respect ,,,cheers
Todd Lavigne
nah paul did, lol but peter was an amazing singer
all round yes I think your right...I stand corrected
i think peter was the coolest dude in kiss lol i wish he would run for president
Peter was the Soul of KISS, He never fails to speak from the heart.
he's just a junkie
Love Love Love The one and only Cat Man. I have been a KISS fan from the beginning-the original 4 . And I have had the privilege to have met him several times. He is the sweetest most giving and humble rock legend you'll ever meet-he truly loves and appreciates his fans. In my opinion one of the best drummers of all time. And his beautiful wife Miss Gigi is the most generous, sweetest lady you could ever know. Team Catman!!!!!!
Coolest member of the original Kiss no doubt.
+TheBzg07 dude that was ACE!! ;)

+TheBzg07 DEFINATELY IS !!! ACE IS COOL TOO !!!
+boobboomagoo You didn't write shit for kiss.
beautiful interview
I must have missed the part where he talks about jazz. Cool interview though.
Thx for sharing this.
It’s cool seeing this knowing he is in my family
4 mediocre musicians formed a 100% kickass group.
It´s kinda like what he says, it was the time and the place that made kiss.
New York . 1973 Amazing times to be a musician i bet.
Mediocre musicians? Maybe. But they wrote great rock and roll songs. They never would have been more than a cult band without those anthems.
I agree, but not mediocre!!! Wrong on that, very talented band!!!
Excellent!
Nice to hear a member of KISS talk besides Gene and Paul.
I really enjoyed the interview with Peter. I get where he is coming from.
LOVE Peter Criss. He was my fav Band Member next to Gene
Peter looks like that awesome grandma you always wished you had.
Very honest and talkative type. The one who tells your parents that they were no ray of sunshine either when they’re lecturing you
The best time in music to me was the 70s and the 90s.
awesome interview
My favorite of the Kiss band 💕
Man, the way he talks about his days of youth really makes you want to be there ^^
great post
Thank you God for Peter Criss, and thank you God for all the KISS band !!!! 🤘🤘🤘
The Kat,Kool kat, Peter Chris was fantastic in kiss and I'm happy he is still enjoying a fantastic life.
I think he was overlooked. Coz of Paul and gene were up front. He a great drummer.
Amazing interview, Canadians are very cool, lol, love it, great stuff
Great stuff.
Wow! Great!
OMG this is good.
Man I'd love to Jam with Peter here in N.Y!
Great Interview!
This is the part where Paul or Gene usually chimes-in and has something bad to say about Peter or Ace and what they did wrong.
Interesting man, great interview
Canadiens are pretty cool. lol u mean cold Peter. Great interview guys gotta love Peter!
Beth was one of my favorite songs.
