I 90% of the time work too failure but I think I’ve been wasting mental energy focusing on the perfect sets and reps instead of just remembering I need to just go crazy wit heavy ass weight and the gains will come regardless. Subjective intensity is an awesome take away! I would also add that the lift doesn’t need to look a certain way. All that matters is that “you’re” feeling it!
The opening spiel is bang on the money, too many people get lost in the weeds of 'science based' lifting (I AM a scientist and I hate that terminology). All the science based content creators will tell you themselves that the particulars of the movement are all about getting the final 10% out of your training, the first 90% is diet, effort, volume, the absolute basics. Almost everyone would be better off focussing on effort, consistency and safe form, once you have that absolutely dialed in then you can start making the fine tuning adjustments - that as Sam says require part of your mental capacity. You can incorporate better 'science based' technique into your workout and see benefits from it, you absolutely can and I have myself. But you need to try and pick things that are easy to implement in your program, easy to remember, easy to execute, because when you're on rep 7 of set 4 and you feel like death is here it needs to be second nature, not something you have to concentrate on.

I love how simple you make working out. I've been lifting for about 15 years and have gone through various programmes. I feel really bad for the people who are on their phones the whole workout tracking every single lift every single rep, they've forgotten the essentials of just lifting weight.

Sam, could you make a video breaking down what amounts of carbs and fats I should be shooting for depending on what my goal is (I’m currently cutting but would be very curious about a bulk phase as well). I have a great grasp on and executing caloric intake and protein intake depending on my current phase. But I’ll be real, not so confident about carbs and fats… would love your insight!
Get it boys. I worked out yesterday, got a bad headache and finally went to the ER and got diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. You never know. I just want to lift right now, but I’m in a hospital bed with surgery scheduled for the AM. If I have to sign one more piece of paper, I’m going to lose it. I just want to hit my quads and get that juicy pump.
