StarCraft 1 Zerg Vs StarCraft 2 Terran: How will this Matchup Go?

    To find this mod: launch StarCraft 2, create a custom melee match, select 'Create with Mod' at the bottom and type SC: Evo Complete Crossover Edition
    Today we've got a twist on a crowd favorite matchup! It's TvZ, but it's StarCraft 2 Terran Vs StarCraft 2 Zerg! It's a game we could have only ever dreamed of in the past! It's the Zerg of the past against the Terran of the future! Who has the advantage in this matchup? What even is the meta? It may not be StarCraft 3, but this is the next best thing, and with a heavy dose of nostalgia! It will be interesting to see how the balance plays out as the mod becomes more popular. The question is: how does SC1 play with SC2 mechanics?
    These games are made possible by the SC: Evo Complete Crossover Edition mod which brings the StarCraft Brood War versions of Protoss, Zerg and Terran into StarCraft 2! The past and the future duke this intense back and forth game!
    If you're new to this channel, I cast a wide range of StarCraft 2 content including casual games and modded games including viewer submitted content! If more casual and modded StarCraft are something you guys are interested in, please consider subscribing!
    Since the majority of casts are of pro level games, I think it would be really interesting focus on StarCraft 2 ladder games from the more general population of StarCraft 2 players. Of course I will occasional host a pro-level match once in awhile, but for now I'm focused on casting StarCraft 2 from players in the community!

    You can tell Z is an SC2 player because they never made defilers

      Also no mutas in a ZvT at the Terran base by 6 minutes (or sooner if you start with 12 drones).

      @@unnamedlegeon Right? They could invalidate the entire terran army with a few defilers. Dark Swarm and Plague are some of the most broken spells in SC1 that makes the relatively weak zerg units into absolute killing machines and gods of destruction.

    Zerg should use the Queens parasite and spawn broodling spells. Cast the parasite on the medivacs for vision and the spawn brooding to get rid of tanks

    No defiler? I would like to see defiler aginast sc2 terran which has no firebat and science vessel!

      Hellbats could definitely stand in for firebats but the lack of the science vessel is much more of a concern.

      SC2 ghost is there to shot down defilers tho. Ether with snipe or with emp, but I don't know why that zerg didn't make any, it's still 1 of the most broken rts units.

      @@tamaskarsai2072 EMP is a slight inconvenience for defilers however, considering you can always just consume a single ling.

      @@mcmarkmarkson7115 have to dissapoint, spells deal about 55% of their damage in dark swarm, and so snipe can 1 shot defiler in dark swarm. They also nerfed dark swarm a bit, so it "only" gives 90% damage reduction from ranged damage. And tested snipe on an egg, it dealt about 60 damage to it, the egg has 10 armor. The defiler has 1 base armor and 80 hp and snipe deals 40 extra damage to psyonic targets, which the defiler is, snipe deals 150 damage +40 psyonic. So even in dark swarm defiler will take about 100 damage from snipe 1 shooting it. So ghost is the option for defilers.

    BRING BACK THE COLOR WHITE FROM CLASSIC. Units look sick with it. Don't know why they punted it in sc2. All colors should be available honestly.

      I believe the white color got removed in brood war and replaced by the green because the snow maps were introduced.

      I want to see that too, my gut is that sc2 queens and spores shut down sc1 muta harass but sc2 air just gets obliterated by sc1 scourge so it becomes a ground game where I feel like Roaches probably beat lings and hydras hard enough that sc2 Zerg wins before defilers. But either way I bet it's really interesting

      @@BinxyBrown Plus remember SC1 zerglings do WAY more damage. I think even base lings do as much DPS as SC2 cracklings (barring melee upgrades)

    what i'll never get over in sc1 queens is their spawn broodlings must target "non-robotic ground units." non-robotic like dragoons and siege tanks... while archons apparently ARE robotic...

    Does anyone know how medium armor units (like Hydras) interact with SC2 units? For example: does a Marauder do 10 damage per hit or maybe like 15 damage (which is in-between 10 vs light & 20 vs armored)

      It's done on a case by case basis, but bassically they are just translated to either light, or armoured, same as when they were translated over in wings of liberty. For example, the wraith is armoured in wings (and holy hell is it shit) and the hydra is of course light.

      Actually BW Hydras are "no tag" the way Ghosts and Sentries are.

      @@sygilber Yeah Hydras got their dps nerfed a bit in the last patch, and there's some discussion on how to adjust it better to be more balanced. One proposal is indeed to make a new medium tag, and give units with bonus damage a new bonus type against medium.

    No dark swarm is a gg for Zerg. They need to start using defilers and guardians.

    I dono if sc1 zerg can deal with sc2 barracks with reactor + muledrop minerals with lings, hydra, or muta...

      easy, scourge in the hands of good zerg would make drops impossible. And MM useless against lurkers. No need for mass hydras, just some lurkers and rush defiler and its gg, Sc2 terran has 0 chance to win against that.

      Do note that SC1 Lurkers are noticably weaker than SC2 ones. Slower movement, burrow speed, shorter range. Their one advantage is being on the same team as Defilers.

      We also have to note that SC1 bio is.....invincible against non lurker armies practically. Medics heal rate is insane, you can literally sit there and out heal entire zerg armies. Sc1 zerg HAVE to use lurkers to be able to cut through it. So in comparison....facing an army that is larger but actually killable doesn't seem all that bad.

    If the Zerg is good. Be defensive: rush lurkers and scourge. Scourge will make drops impossible and lurkers crush anything until tanks pop out. If Zerg manages to survive till defilers its gg for terran.
    Terran can't deal with defilers in sc2

      I did do some play testing and confirmed that you can take SC2 tech as SC1 toss with mind control 😂 I still need to look into the command center lmao

      Or build SC2 zerg buildings on SC1 creep and vice versa.

      You can play within SC2 itself! Once you launch the game, go to Custom at the top, select Melee then click "Create with Mod" - search SC Evo Complete and it should come up

    I think Sc1 Zerg would play far better in SC2 then SC2 zerg. Defilers and Guardians with tech level 1 hydralisks and eventually lurkers are so good.

    sc2 is just made to be alot faster and easier for the player. Alot of these matchups have sc2 races win. Anyway, the bw zerg doesn't know how to play bw. No muta, no defiler, nothing

      Muta would probably be bad here. The reason that unit is so strong in SC1 is because it clusters and moves like a SC2 unit

      well defiler just owns terrans. Spellcasters in sc1 were way more powerful.
      Like a single defiler in SC 2 can cause 10000 minerals in dmg or more, it is huge aoe and does 295 dmg. And it can just recover energy by eating zerglings...

      The Zerg player here didn't really explore the tech tree, but their strength is mainly in how massable Hydras were (cheap, 1 supply), and once you hit end game, Defilers are super busted. Nearly invincible under Dark Swarm, massive 300 dmg Plague (though stop at 1 HP). BW ZvT late game for Terran is based around keeping Zerg away from T's bases as long as possible because if Dark Swarm lands inside, you're losing a lot of infrastructure.
      BW Protoss has a stronger Storm, super long stasis and recall in Arbiters, being able to stunlock any group Bio units in Dark Archon. Dragoons are also a little bit stronger in a straight fight.
      Terran has earlier medics, which gives them a pretty early power spike. Vultures can spam Spider Mines, Siege Tanks are cheaper. End games has Science Vessel with Irradiate that puts a 200 dmg AoE DoT cloud on Biological units, and if you keep them alive, Ghosts can stun lock one mechanical unit for lIke 30 seconds

      TBF, the Zerg player here didn't really try using Defilers. If the T player doesn't expect it, it can seriously screw them over for several minutes.

      Triple M too much for Hydras. Liberators just target shooting Lurkers lol. Scourges too much for Medivacs but Marines are just target shooting them lol.

      @@ryangonzales7716 Even in starcraft 1 Zerg would struggle to beat bio without defilers so not much of a surprise. If he didnt want to go for defilers he really need mutalisks with good micro.

      Mutalisks, and air units in general, are much weaker in SC2. Much of their power comes from being able to ignore pathing issues, but now everyone walks good. BW Mutas are also a bit slower, and don't have the super regen. What Zerg really needed to do was make Queens or Defilers, they're where most of the power is.
