1:23-1:36 "I'm missing shots. Help me out" Federer expecting privileged treatment from umpires as always and is then baffled how he got treated like any other player. Always trying to get a nudge from ATP, that's how he won all those titles.
He asks them to remind him when they switch the balls so he can change his racket and the umpire didn't. You think that's why he won all of those titles? Any player could ask the same of the umpire.
Always spoken of as a gentleman and for his graciousness, so it's truly amazing, at his age, that he reverted to teenaged hissy-fits in response to his own performance. The respect for your opponent is not there at these times, both because it is a questioning of their being better than you in that moment (can it be that they are better?)...but also it's an interruption to their flow of playing, with no apologies given. I suspect his difficulty overcoming injuries had really gotten into his psyche by 2019...making it hard to accept the lower level of play that he was able to give. If you don't like that lower level, then don't play the tournament is my thought. Do us and your opponents that favor.

Strange that Federer behaved this way as it looked to be about Sverev playing fantastically rather than Federer playing poorly. When your opponent is that in the zone, any other reaction than acknowledging their great play is self-defeating, and a tad disrespectful to the opponent.

That's not something that stops somebody from becoming world no. 1 though so idk what Victor was trying to say.
I’m kind of 50/50 on this. While Federer was being a little bit of a jerk here, I thought the umpire handled it well until he called that second ball abuse violation. It didn’t look like he hit the ball hard or in anger and it didn’t put anyone in harms way. It looked like just a regular lob.
Yeah, I mean, it is a judgement call I think. The rule has some clear guidelines, but at the same time allows for judgment to come into play. Federer is my favorite of all-time, or 2nd to Agassi, so I am not a Federer hater. That being said, it is kinda shitty for him to try to lawyer and use semantics to argue this issue. It is a no-brainer that he was not completely just innocent. He obviously was frustrated and showed poor sportsmanship with that little act. I mean, is it really a confusing call? Is it debatable if he really was just going about his normal business and then was penalized for an innocent mistake? Of course not. He was mad and hit the ball in a ridiculous way to express his feelings and anger. It was a judgment call for the the umpire to say whether it crosses the line.
He is also a human man like djokovic, nadal or someone, I mean that from nole was also little bit more crazy but that’s his Charakter. At the end Nole shows big respect to zverev and that’s more important.

Don't think he was making excuses - he clearly mentioned that he was missing shots, and the argument about the ball change was about standing around looking like a fool rather than a dispute about points. He was losing and frustration got the better of him, but I don't think he was making excuses about losing - just looking to vent. He is past it and Zverev is a top player - it is kind of exceptional that these old guys can even live with this crop of top young players.

Federer expecting privileged treatment from umpires as always and is then baffled how he got treated like any other player.

@@Wangster007 Not really, the OP's point was pretty bad. Federer was stating a very specific grievance that he has with umpires, that they say that they will remind him 1 game before new balls but they don't end up doing that, which is a very reasonable issue to bring up.
