Debatable look at Novak he can talk in 10 different languages and wanted lower ranked players to get better pay.
He could technically talk in each Countries respective home language
Stood his ground and fought for freedom of choice something Nadal didn't bother bringing it up he just took that shot and that was that
      And Novak still isn't done
He's going to make Carlos even better then what Carlos would have been if Novak wasn't around or still competitive even as old as he is
On top of that Novak might not even retire for a while still bringing us great matches and inspiring us to compete even at an old age we shall see though how long Novak lasts
Then you also have Nadal who also helped Tennis a lot as well and out of the big 3 he is the only one who never has smashed a racquet nor hardly got into fights with Umps.
Lets see if Nadal can help Carlos become even better come next year as well going to be interesting as hell
I'd say Fed got into it with the Umps the most

ATP rulebook: "Players shall not violently, dangerously or with anger hit, kick or throw a tennis ball while on the grounds of the tournament site except in the
reasonable pursuit of a point during a match (including warm-up). For purposes of this rule, abuse of balls is defined as intentionally or recklessly hitting a ball out of the enclosure of the court, hitting a ball dangerously or recklessly within the court or hitting a ball with disregard of the consequences".
While in this case it's kinda debatable it's a pointless argument (particularly about the path of the ball) in my view and Roger isn't right. It's a ball clearly hit out of anger and most probably landing outside of the stadium, in the grandstands or in a corridor (as in this case) difficult to fetch it and bring it back to keep the set of balls in place. That's the reason why I agree with Novak's default at the US Open.
And Nacho is apologising to Roger something useful to measure the double standards of tennis umpires towards top players which some players have rightly complained about.

    • @thebigsquirrel50
      @thebigsquirrel50 3 года назад +12

Hard to argue when the rule literally states what is supposed to happen.
Problem is this: fans just can't see the rules for what they are. Their man simply "can't do wrong."
While the speed of this "angry hit" is less than 99% of all other ball abuse point penalties, the umpire was right. It doesn't matter that it is Roger Federer.
And, since you mentioned it, although Novak's strike towards the umpire was less speed than probably 100% of all other defaults, it's still correct. It doesn't matter that it is Novak Djokovic.
Obviously in short, I agree with you 100%.

@@balmorrablue3130 You still missed the point. It doesn't matter about past behavior or code violations. Again, while that hit was slower than pretty much every other violation in history, it's not always the intent behind it, but simply the action itself. You’re right to a point. Federer was leading by a set and it was in the second set tie break with the Swiss trailing. Del Potro held on to claim the second set tie break 7-5, but Federer hit back to take the third set 6-4 and was 6-5 up in the fourth. So your narrative is wide of the mark, albeit you could potentially argue Federer could have won in straight sets (by winning the second set tie break), had he not been frustrated by the Argentine taking extra long to successfully challenge.

Don't think he was making excuses - he clearly mentioned that he was missing shots, and the argument about the ball change was about standing around looking like a fool rather than a dispute about points. He was losing and frustration got the better of him, but I don't think he was making excuses about losing - just looking to vent. He is past it and Zverev is a top player - it is kind of exceptional that these old guys can even live with this crop of top young players.

Always spoken of as a gentleman and for his graciousness, so it's truly amazing, at his age, that he reverted to teenaged hissy-fits in response to his own performance. The respect for your opponent is not there at these times, both because it is a questioning of their being better than you in that moment (can it be that they are better?)...but also it's an interruption to their flow of playing, with no apologies given. I suspect his difficulty overcoming injuries had really gotten into his psyche by 2019...making it hard to accept the lower level of play that he was able to give. If you don't like that lower level, then don't play the tournament is my thought. Do us and your opponents that favor.

It is a no-brainer that he was not completely just innocent. He obviously was frustrated and showed poor sportsmanship with that little act. I mean, is it really a confusing call? Is it debatable if he really was just going about his normal business and then was penalized for an innocent mistake? Of course not. He was mad and hit the ball in a ridiculous way to express his feelings and anger. It was a judgment call for the the umpire to say whether it crosses the line.

Another edit ok he got on that line my guess some personal issues affected his mentality(which you cant do). He was more in the wrong but respect for how he dealt with it for the most part.

Roger's réactions when the oponent hit a superb point are really the worst of the Big 3.. he is a Legendary player but his behaviours are so overrated, Nadal is the most exemplary player, and Djokovic even if he was impulsive at first became very respectfull with his oponents
