    I don’t understand a thing but it’s great to hear Roger speaks French.

    • @nyChannel09
      @nyChannel09 Год назад +9

      In switzerland we have 3 languages. A citizen is learning french OR italian OR german as a 2nd language in school. Thus we are kind of expected to speak (german and french) OR (german and italian) OR (italian and french).
      This way, we should be able to communicate with everyone in switzerland, because everyone should be able to speak 2 out of 3 languages.
      (To my fellow swiss citizens, I KNOW about rumantsch, its irrelevant to the point im trying to make.)

    Only Fed could get away with talking this long to an umpire without being booed.

    time violations are so counterproductive given most of the time the player will argue with the umpire, taking more time 😂 not to mention Roger wasn’t even in the wrong here

  • @theaviator1152
    @theaviator1152 Год назад +46

    The time violation is absurd. The previous point ends at 0:15, and by 0:32 the umpire is calling “time violation.” Federer didn’t break any specific rule, Cilic was serving fast on purpose because he knew Federer was on the far doubles sideline. I’ve seen returners in open tournaments delay their opponents’ serves by 40 seconds right in front of an umpire with no penalty. Federer took a perfectly average time between points. His average time between serves is literally 17 seconds, so he should be allowed to take the exact same time between returns without warnings that interrupt the game.

    I counted 14 seconds between the end of the point and the warning... seems kind of ridiculous honestly lol

    • @1158scott
      @1158scott 8 месяцев назад +1

      You're a bad counter.
      It's 20-21 seconds since the point ended & more importantly, about 13 seconds since the score called, that Federer got warned. And he is still not back, ready to return with his slow walking. Federer doesn't get to use up most of his opponents service clock before opponent can even start his service routine. That's taking complete control of the pace of play from the server.

  • @billpaloukas
    @billpaloukas 2 месяца назад +4

    First of all, timer starts counting at score call. secondly, 20 second timer doesnt count for returners only for servers. Returners are supposed to play on servers pace. That said, all players are allowed a towel use btw each every point. Roger started walking to towel instantly when the point ended wasting no time. And used towel in 3 seconds. Is he supposed to run back and forth? No. Is he supposed to skip towel if he needs it? Again no. Leniency should have been given considering the distance, that roger wasted no time at all, and considering ball boys had just stopped carrying the towels and players have to walk back and forth to them. Yes play at servers pace but only up to a point. If you're not deliberatly wasting time server is supposed to wait for you to use towel if he is kyrgios-styling
    All that said, cilic did that on purpose and its obvious that he wanted roger to be given a penalty.

    Federer is known to play Fast between Points and Should get a lot of Leeway from The Umpire for things like this especially if not on Purpose...And they have to get their own Towels as well...Rules are Rules but come on

    There are no ball kids getting towels so it's going to take longer than usual.
    & We've seen Cilic play Nadal(who takes his time) and he does not rush his serves like that, so it was a clear tactic on his end to get the umpire involved which worked lol

    Cillic is probably on the right side on that one. You play following the tempo of the server, and the receiver has to try to respect that. Federer himself is notorious for having a quick service rutine.

    • @bsrussian
      @bsrussian Год назад +5

      not in this case. the returner also has to meet the 25 second quota and its the servers responsibility as per the rules to wait for the returner. its also not his fault that cilic needs to get to the baseline quickly to start bouncing the ball for 20 minutes

    • @1158scott
      @1158scott 8 месяцев назад

      Federer got warned about 13 seconds after the score was called & he still wasn't back in position to return. He has to make a better effort than that slow walk when he's taking up most of Cilic's service clock before he can start his service routine.

      You can't read numbers. Djokovic and Nadal are almost from a different generation. Djokovic beat Federer for the first time in a GS when Roger was already 28, and the second time when he was almost 30. Nadal played and beat Federer even before, but he faced him only in the finals of the French and other clay tournaments and almost never in other GS or other tournaments, because Nadal didn't reach the final stages in those. That's why Wimbledon 2008 was a big thing and that's why Fed and Djokovic and Nadal had (and have) almost the same number of slams when the H2H statistics are in favour of Nadal and Djokovic.

      @milvao3400 Год назад +5

      @@canski5646 No, the field wasn't weak at all in 2003-2009. That just explains why the h2h is in favour of Djokovic and Nadal: not because they're way better than Federer, but because for a long time Nadal played Federer mostly in clay court finals, because they were both top seeds and Nadal didn't reach the finals in hard/grass events....and Djokovic played (and beat) Federer mostly when Federer was in his 30s. Before 2011, Roger was 13-6 against Djokovic.
