Scary thing is, Federer at RG 2011 played at a much higher level than he did in 2009. Yet, he couldn't get his hands on La Coupe des Mousquetaires for the 2nd time.
This makes me appreciate Rafa so much to pull that comeback in the first set trailing 2-5 to win it 7-5. Hope he does it again this year at RG. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Fed is going to beat him because he' believes that he can'. Come on. Even if he won the 1st set, that doesnt mean he could have won. After everything you have seen over the years from this surface. You must know that he tried his best, even if he believed more, he would still have been met with higher resistance. SW19 2019 is another case altogether. That one is😔

They don't love each other though. Federer cried like a baby at the 2009AO F trophy ceremony.
Nadal did not invite Federer to his 2019 wedding, for example. Because they aren't friends but they were business partners when they both worked for NIKE. NIKE made commercials of them being "friendly" because they both were NIKE brand ambassadors and employees of NIKE. It is like how NIKE a few years ago kept promoting Raducanu and Nadal being "best friends" when all they really did was pay Raducanu to wear Nadal's NIKE gear for PR and commercial/advertisement reasons.

Then Roger finally won another slam match in Melbourne in 2017 & again at Wimbledon in their final match in 2019. Rafa was a better player at their respective peaks, but Roger was unclear how to play against Nadal until Melbourne 2017. Most of the points were lost when Roger left the baseline and tried to rush the net and got passed or couldn't hit the perfect volley ... even though beating Nadal in baseline rallies at RG is the toughest task Roger should have stayed back and chosen more carefully which ones to finish at the net,...obviously this is easier to say ..however i 'm pointing out here because this was the exact sort of gameplan he employed in AO 17 final...waiting for the right moment to go to the net ... i think he sort of lost it after 5-2 when that drop shot felt wide.. and then when you lose 5 straight games from 5-2 to losing 5-7 i guess Roger was just sort of holding his game in sets 2 and 3 . he was still good enough .... but not as good as the 1st set until 5-2 ...with such a mentality when you have to go toe to toe with Nadal and win set 3 ..i guess it was too much for Roger from set 4 onwards and he got breadsticked..still even if he had won the 1st set it would have been difficult to say whether he would have won overall...because since he did not win 1st set he was at a high level until set 3 because he wanted to win a set and then it became too much... am saying this as a Roger fan..as beating Rafa in RG was one of the most toughest task...
In 2006 also he had won the first set and still lost in 4..

Yeah Nole is an ambitious man, he has the gut to say and do the things he speaks out. But beating Rafa in RG final is something impossible in tennis, just like Nole in AO final. They can play bad in the early rounds but when coming to the final, it's a very different story. So I think it's better for Nole if he faces Rafa in QF or SF.

Federer is the one out of prime in 2011 and 2008 and Nadal at prime in 2008 but out of prime in 2011. But when it comes to clay, especially Roland Garros Fed simply can't beat Nadal(losing to Nadal from 2005 all the way to 2008). Nadal on the other hand, can't beat Fed in fast courts. Wimbledon has slowed down quite a bit by 2008 giving Nadal the opportunity to beat Fed in "green clay" grass

Tennis is 50:50 on Physical Power vs Talent on Technique
Clay court is a slow surface & therefore, Physical power dominates Skill. Roger Federer could not move faster & hit brutal Forehand winners.
On other hand, Grass court is for all type of skills ie. Hitting Ace, Serve & Volley etc, Passing shot etc
Federer, being a Skilled Tennis Player still lost to Base line Tennis player, Nadal, in Wimbledon.

We can see on this video what has been the problem of tennis in the last decade: Federer's fanatic fans
It's ridiculous how they have been disrespecting his opponents, first Nadal and in recent years Djokovic. They made up their mind that Federer was the best ever, no one would ever get close, and they prefer to boo the opponent instead of cheering for their player. Even today, you can see many of them, especially at Djokovic's matches, just cheering for whoever his playing against.

I didn't like Nadal in this match. As Good friends as they both are to each other, but what's the point to take injury time out in the first set while your opponent is leading 5-2 . Cheap tricks to break Federer's rhythm it was like only around 25-30 minutes since match started. Rafa came back after this and didn't took a timeout in the whole match. .
It could definitely have been a 5 setter .
And it's not the first time Rafa did something like this, countless time he's been fined receiving uncle tony's coaching whenever roger had an upper hand and If you beat him he is probably injured.
It would have been hard for federer to maintain friendship against someone who make continuous excuses in their matches .
