Rodger played extremely well. Such a privilege to watch them play for 12-13 years at such a high level.
Scary thing is, Federer at RG 2011 played at a much higher level than he did in 2009. Yet, he couldn't get his hands on La Coupe des Mousquetaires for the 2nd time.
This makes me appreciate Rafa so much to pull that comeback in the first set trailing 2-5 to win it 7-5. Hope he does it again this year at RG. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻
dude that final after wimbledon 2019 was the 2nd hardest match loss as a fed fan :( He played at a god level vs djokovic that semifinal. I remember watching it while I lived in spain as a kid and EVERYONE loved federer that day in Spain for beating djokovic, and then they switched back to root for nadal winning xD
Lmao
@@seankeegan8285 It was good for Novax because playing Nadal in the final of RG is mission Impossible as always.
he is not there in 2023 rg ..
@@prasadwt270 yes, unfortunately he won't play this year. And his participation in RG 2024 is also a big question mark at this point. It all depends on how does Rafa's body holds up for maybe one last push for glory. Not getting up my hopes for a positive outcome this time though.
Rafa earned the respect of the frenchs (even though France and Spain aren’t “friends”). Now he’s claimed and clapped in every single moment. Now he’s older, everyone wants him to win (as they did with Roger in this match).
This was a turning point in Roger's career. Yes this was Roger's best chance at beating Rafa in the French, but it was also Roger's 5th final here and it would be his last. Afterwards, Roger never made FO finals again. His latter years were all Wimbledon and AO (with one lone USO final).
Always got so hyped seeing the big 4 all in the semi finals.
Their rivalry and respect for each other should be taught in every school and colleges
I guess Federer never believed in winning that match. He played amazing tennis for 3 sets and he was even hesitating celebrating his biggest winners as if he couldn't believe what was happening. Also he got unlucky in various close calls that could easily change the course of that match
I have watched Fedal since 2004. On clay especially on RG, Roger never believed he could beat Nadal. That was as close as he possibly got to Nadal, losing n 4, close sets. Especially given his previous demolition against Nadal in 2009 definitely most talented among 3, but the weakest mentally. He lost 2 important matches against Novak too having mp.
@@sumanchowdhury6162 well said, most talented but weakest mentally
Gents, why are u on Fed's case here. Wasnt Fed playing the guy that has a 91% career winning rate on this surface, 97% on this tournament. Are u disregarding the skills of his opponent. Fed is going to beat him because he' believes that he can'. Come on. Even if he won the 1st set, that doesnt mean he could have won. After everything you have seen over the years from this surface. You must know that he tried his best, even if he believed more, he would still have been met with higher resistance. SW19 2019 is another case altogether. That one is😔
@Tano27 yes and as a Nadal fan myself I can say the biggest threat to Nadal on clay will always be Djokovic
@@sumanchowdhury6162
Federer could have been the goat with Djokovic’s mentality.
Incredible to watch this piece from history. Federer attempts multiple 1-2 punches and Rafa hits a ridiculous passing shot each time. WITH EASE.
that was Federer's best chance to defeat Rafa at the French
I think hisbest chance was in 05 and 06, rafa 08,10,11,12,13,17 was an absolute beast
You have added so much to my tennis experience and deep appreciation of Rafa's indominable spirit. Thank you!
Thank you for the constant support, Susan!
I will never tire of watching these two play.
Never seen two other competitors love each other so much. If only other professionals could behave this way, it would be so beautiful.
They don't love each other though. Federer cried like a baby at the 2009AO F trophy ceremony.
Nadal did not invite Federer to his 2019 wedding, for example. Because they aren't friends but they were business partners when they both worked for NIKE. NIKE made commercials of them being "friendly" because they both were NIKE brand ambassadors and employees of NIKE. It is like how NIKE a few years ago kept promoting Raducanu and Nadal being "best friends" when all they really did was pay Raducanu to wear Nadal's NIKE gear for PR and commercial/advertisement reasons.
Hahahaha.......!
The guy named Rafa Nadal made the great Roger looked like Robinsoderling .. the guy at Rolandgarros is like Undertaker at WrestleMania... He just can't loose
Best ever version of roger on clay courts without a shadow of a doubt... His match against novak and the first 3 sets vs rafa in finals were the best ever.. The finals match really deserved a 5th set

Djokovic would've ended Rafa's clay court reign for good if Federer hadn't beaten him. That year Novak was simply invincible, no matter what surface he was on!
"& everyone thought he had a big chance" 🤣🤣🤣🤣thanks for the joke 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rafa’s head to head in grand slams is what makes him legend
You mean to tell me that Federer was expected to beat Nadal, although he lost 4 matches already on RG to Rafa? Sorry to say this, but Rafa was living rent free in Roger’s head thanks to the clay. The outcome of the first 2 sets here proves it. Had they not played so many matches on clay at the beginning of their rivalry, Roger might have had a chance against him in this final. The mental edge was so in favour of Rafa at that time.
He always seems to come up short in that aspect of his mental fortitude, we've seen it many times.
I don't believe that federer was to win this title. But sure the match could have gone into a fifth set. Federer was better at the first set he didn't play well when he served for it.
Rafa is just out of the world on clay...
Most of grand slam was a Gifted from RF .. I love Rafa & Nole But they Take so many chances that Federer was Given to them ..
But they Have to Know & There’s Fans That RF Is The Best - & If you still not believe - you should be looking to The winners of Roger every match he played you will clean your ayes when sho see that Magic of maestro ❤

I spite of the heart breaking loss, Roger lightly tapped Rafa. No overt animosity.
And he Roger Federer destroyed Nada's dreams in Wimbledon 2006 and Australian open in 2017
But Fed never won against Rafa in RG. Talk about destroying dreams.
Nobody can defeat goat
1st game 4th set Roger not breaking at 40 love was match point
There is only one king in clay #RAFA
Roger is such a choker against Rafa on clay it's amazing to see. Also against Djokovic in grand slams while having 40-15 in match points. That's the only negative thing in his career. Without it he would've been easily the best ever officially.
For me he's the best ever anyway no Matter how many titles they'll have. But some people love this stat and he blew it unfortunately...
Rafa was in Roger's head but not just on clay. It needs to be remembered that Rafa beat Roger on all three surfaces in grand slams & Roger only beat Rafa at Wimbledon in 2006 and 2007. Then Roger finally won another slam match in Melbourne in 2017 & again at Wimbledon in their final match in 2019. Rafa was a better player at their respective peaks, but Roger was unclear how to play against Nadal until Melbourne 2017. On clay Rafa's advantages were such that at Roland Garros it was close to Mission Impossible for Roger.
It's really tough for anyone to win any tournament especially when you faces consecutively 2 of the big 3
As much as I love Fed, the only reason Federer was able to beat Djokovic the way he did and dominate Nadal for the first 3 sets the way he did here was because 2011 Roland Garros played more like a medium hardcourt than a clay court that year. The balls were blazing fast and the court didn't really slow them down enough to properly resemble a clay court.
Best of 5 RG Rodger knew he'd have to play the same way he beat nole to have the slightest chance in hell
The stadium was evenly divided maybe slightly towards Roger. Rafa doesn't have significant amount of haters.
Fedal: Splendidi...❤️👏👏👏🎾🤗
I think Federer is the player that missed the most important occasions ton win Grand Slams
@Tano27 Nope. Federer was without question the better player in the first three sets and should have won this match in straight sets. Don’t forget that Federer took out the player that would have destroyed Nadal in this final. Let that sink in.
@@jacobschmidt2709 Nobody could defeat Nadal in RG final, 2011 Novak definitely would have gone to 5 sets if he met Nadal but no way he is destroying Nadal.
Federer simply doesn't have what it takes to beat Nadal consistently on clay. He has like 2 wins against Nadal on clay in like 20 matches. Nadal simply owns Federer on clay.
@@expert-editz Djokovic in 2011 was to Nadal the same as what Nadal on clay was to Federer for their whole careers. I think taking out Djokovic in SF was the biggest favor Roger did to Nadal, Djokovic would have obliterated Nadal like he did for the whole 2011, including Madrid and Rome

Federer got screwed in that crucial call that was called out
This guy is good
It’s hard to tell whether he would have won the match even if he taken the first set, but he would have a had a far greater chance
Rafa is just different ❤❤❤
Roger never had a chance against Nadal on clay. A lot of comments that make no sense. The high ball to fed's backhand only got better until 2017. The only player that could handle high balls with ohb was wawrinka. The match was lost before it even started.
Still Federer ruled this sport unlike any other!
Federer did not have a chance against Nadal on clay because of his one handed backhand
The conditions changed in this match which did not help Roger I think. The balls tend to fly through the court better when it is sunnier. I remember a few rain breaks for this match.
Rafa had Feds number right from the start, 10-4 in grand slams is a total domination.
We will never know if 2011 Novak could have beaten Nadal that year at the French
Why you call them "haters"? They were just rooting for Federer, that doesn't mean they are haters, they just have a preference and there is nothing wrong or disrespectful with it. You only think it's bad because they are not rooting for the same player you are rooting for
It's not just the cheering for Fed. For someone that had been the King of that tournament for over half a decade at that point, they were disrespectful towards Rafa. Booing him for challenging a line call is a perfect example.
Fed could have won it in 3 straight sets but Rafa was exceptional 🙌🏻
What does that even mean lmao ??? How could have federer won it in 3 sets if Rafa was exceptional. I understand English is the third language in INDIA so probably some issue there

Most of the points were lost when Roger left the baseline and tried to rush the net and got passed or couldn't hit the perfect volley ... even though beating Nadal in baseline rallies at RG is the toughest task Roger should have stayed back and chosen more carefully which ones to finish at the net,...obviously this is easier to say ..however i 'm pointing out here because this was the exact sort of gameplan he employed in AO 17 final...waiting for the right moment to go to the net ... i think he sort of lost it after 5-2 when that drop shot felt wide.. and then when you lose 5 straight games from 5-2 to losing 5-7 i guess Roger was just sort of holding his game in sets 2 and 3 . he was still good enough .... but not as good as the 1st set until 5-2 ...with such a mentality when you have to go toe to toe with Nadal and win set 3 ..i guess it was too much for Roger from set 4 onwards and he got breadsticked..still even if he had won the 1st set it would have been difficult to say whether he would have won overall...because since he did not win 1st set he was at a high level until set 3 because he wanted to win a set and then it became too much... am saying this as a Roger fan..as beating Rafa in RG was one of the most toughest task...
In 2006 also he had won the first set and still lost in 4..
Not True..its just head, few first gems he took it with many net aproaches 🫣
Roger still had doubts
Changing history with a few centimeters.
Roger played at very high level in this final, without a doubt. Couple big points won here and there and the result could have been very different.
6-1 !!!
I know this comment is unrelated to this video. Novak has just said, in an interview, he hopes to meet Rafa in a Roland Garros final once again. Apparently, Djokovic has ambitions.
Well Rafa is out of shape, too many injuries and oldness made him weak recently. So I guess Djokovic prefers to face Nadal this year than ten or five years ago
@@lj659-r9i they have been facing
It's impossible to win against a young and healthy Nadal in Roland Garros
Yeah Nole is an ambitious man, he has the gut to say and do the things he speaks out. But beating Rafa in RG final is something impossible in tennis, just like Nole in AO final. They can play bad in the early rounds but when coming to the final, it's a very different story. So I think it's better for Nole if he faces Rafa in QF or SF.
@latingdmc It's from his most recent interview. I think it was to a Serbian reporter.
El primer set tuvo set point para cerrarlo 63. El segundo jugaron un tiebreak. El tercero lo ganó 75.
Faltó poco Roger.
Not that it matters now, but I always thought if Fed had just switched to a 2 handed backhand, he would have had a chance against Nadal on Clay.
Federer completely fell apart, after that drop shot set point. He is rushed and anxious afterwards. 2-5 to 7-5. Djokovic and Nadal simply don't throw away those kinds of leads. It's telling time and time again, when you watch his matches back. Every Time the doubts surfaced, they took hold.
First set: What happened? Did Rafa suddenly wake up after seven games?
Second set: RF unforced errors and Rafa winners about even.
Third set: No comment.
Fourth set: Clearly Rafa. (I've seen RF better but,...)
Rafa just better that day.

It's really disappointing that Federer lost the final set 6-1. Unlike Djokovic he could not even take Rafa to five sets never mind best him.
Yeah, Rafa and Novak push Roger at Wimby. Novak is the only person to beat Rafa more than one time at RG. That showed Novak level is way above everybody else also Rafa is almost impossible to beat at RG that is insanely scary domination.
So what does that tell you about Federer? He wasn't as good as the other 2 titans.😁

Prime Federer never came close to taking down Nadal at the French Open but pre-prime Nadal took down prime Federer at Wimbeldon in 2008 + came really close in 2007..
Only beat Fed once in four outings on grass. In fact holds a losing record against him on all other surfaces, so the only thing your post proves is that Nadal is only better on clay. Big deal.
@ Snookerfool: Rafa leads Federer on outdoor HC too
Federer is the one out of prime in 2011 and 2008 and Nadal at prime in 2008 but out of prime in 2011. But when it comes to clay, especially Roland Garros Fed simply can't beat Nadal(losing to Nadal from 2005 all the way to 2008). Nadal on the other hand, can't beat Fed in fast courts. Wimbledon has slowed down quite a bit by 2008 giving Nadal the opportunity to beat Fed in "green clay" grass
@Yussepi G By two matches, hardly definitive evidence is it. Especially since he lost his last four "outdoor HC" outings to Federer once he upgraded his bh. Who's the fool now?
@stanley extra Yet he still lost to Fed at Wimbledon in 2019. Also, Nadal was at his peak until 2013 when he achieved his highest ever ELO rating.
Tennis is 50:50 on Physical Power vs Talent on Technique

We can see on this video what has been the problem of tennis in the last decade: Federer's fanatic fans
It's ridiculous how they have been disrespecting his opponents, first Nadal and in recent years Djokovic. They made up their mind that Federer was the best ever, no one would ever get close, and they prefer to boo the opponent instead of cheering for their player. Even today, you can see many of them, especially at Djokovic's matches, just cheering for whoever his playing against.
Just enjoy the sport without that sick love for Roger and hate for the others...
Fed fans are the worst of them all. They like to relive 2006 all over again.
Just the title of that video is so stupid 😂😂
I didn't like Nadal in this match. As Good friends as they both are to each other, but what's the point to take injury time out in the first set while your opponent is leading 5-2 . Cheap tricks to break Federer's rhythm it was like only around 25-30 minutes since match started. Rafa came back after this and didn't took a timeout in the whole match. .
It could definitely have been a 5 setter .
And it's not the first time Rafa did something like this, countless time he's been fined receiving uncle tony's coaching whenever roger had an upper hand and If you beat him he is probably injured.
