Matias Collates I did too a couple of years ago and my gosh was I so focused..I was so into the music I landed every note without looking up for the conductor.
This is such an emotional piece, especially for my band, This was my last year and this was the last song at the concert that we played and for years it had been our opener for marching shows, specifically the very ending. I bawled, I and many other people whose it was their last time, music is a really extraordinary thing.
I remember playing this in symphonic band I play tuba and we shredded 1:32 it was a fun piece and Samuel Hazo is one of my fav composers for making strong pieces like this
I played this last year (trumpet 1/2) and I downloaded it onto my ipod and went running with it. I ran my fasted mile time ever a few weeks ago of 4:51 and I had it blasting in my ears. LOVE IT.
My marching band played this as our closer in 2014. Our school as bagpipes and hearing them playing this towards the end still gives me chills. Obviously the pipe instructor wrote a part for them cause it's not in the original version.
My gosh just played this at our concert a couple hours ago and it was conducted by a student teacher that's leaving tomorrow :'( I cried so much at the end...
OMG. When I read your comment the first time, I thought it said "I love the Suspended Cymbal. It's like almost doing something!" That's right. The cymbals are like ALMOST doing SOMETHING... Almost
Former flute here, I absolutely love this piece. After I played this in my freshman year I knew I needed to join Percussion. Currently in battery as a senior this upcoming season ;)
Played this piece in my school band, 1st trumpet was just crazy. One of the greatest pieces I ever were part of. Also the best drums solo ever, just a insane transition.
This was our closer for my schools 2021 Marching show, I played Quads on my second year of drumline, we just finished champs and I love this damn song so much
We played this for our final concert and this song still gives me goosebumps every time i hear it the ending is just Amazing i was 2nd trumpet for this song but still played parts of the first trumpet
My wind ensemble did a combined effort with a college wind ensemble and our symphonic winds. Together it was about 120 playing this godly piece. (I played bass clarinet) But yeah this is such an amazing piece and I still have the sheet music for it.
I think this was the last piece I played in high school band. The underclassmen in the top couple bands performed at commencement, and then we graduates joined them to play what I think was this piece (it's been 16 years so I'm not 100% certain).
As a member of the color guard, I am required to be enrolled in band. Marching season is over so our band Director moved me from guard to percussion. (We are a band of about 25 people and we didn’t have enough percussion members).I have never been in band before... and she hands us this piece to sight read 😂 it’s a great piece, but incredibly intimidating for a newbie.
We played this and we had like 3 firsts, but one player to go into the higher octave at that one part in the Beggining and the others played 2nd. Talk about no breath :)
When I first played this piece, I wanted to play with audio recordings. I looked it up and it was played in B. I was shook, but it still sounds incredible in B. (Bb was good too)
Welcome to the Symphonic (Lower) band at my school. All the other sections got to be good enough to be in Wind Ensemble (Higher) band by the end of the year, but the trumpets still played like they were in middle school. Freaking dinguses
Jonah Pawlak Truth be told, it's a challenging instrument. I'm primarily an Alto player, but when I started to double on trumpet I understood a lot better.
I actually played in the pit for this, as my marching band did this one year. I made the trumpets sound like wimps. Most gratifying thing in the world.
I am searching for a comment section on a piece of concert band music that doesn't have some dumb kid bragging about how they played it in Like 6th grade
I was First Trumpet and my lips hurt every time I played this
Yeah same, one I got to the high D’S I just gave up
Finding this comment 12 years later (and 11 years since I played first trumpet on this song) and I still feel this deep in my soul lol
I played this in symphonic band, loved the trumpet and French horn part. Makes you think of flying in the sky
The amount of goosebumps I get in pieces like this one is insane!
I love the Suspended Cymbal. It's like almost always doing something!
I played toms, and I nailed it from the beginning. I got goosebumps every time, and that fueled me to go freakin ham
YESSS I PLAY TOMS AS WELL TOMS FTW FUCKING INSANE
Matias Collates I did too a couple of years ago and my gosh was I so focused..I was so into the music I landed every note without looking up for the conductor.
7 yrs later.. and I'm cymbal
hi i'm from the future, i was on timpani for this piece and the timpani part is godlike
This is such an emotional piece, especially for my band, This was my last year and this was the last song at the concert that we played and for years it had been our opener for marching shows, specifically the very ending. I bawled, I and many other people whose it was their last time, music is a really extraordinary thing.
I am legitimately curious; how did you play while crying?
Sheesh Samuel Hazo really loves ridiculously hard trumpet parts
and every single one of them are amazing to play too
This actually wasn’t that hard to play
I remember playing this in symphonic band I play tuba and we shredded 1:32 it was a fun piece and Samuel Hazo is one of my fav composers for making strong pieces like this
amen bro, just played this at a clinic band and I'm 1st chair of 7 and it kicked cause he wanted it loud :P
Im doing this piece in symphonic band this year and im using that section of this video to practice my piece lmfao
Dude that shit is so hard omg
I played this last year (trumpet 1/2) and I downloaded it onto my ipod and went running with it. I ran my fasted mile time ever a few weeks ago of 4:51 and I had it blasting in my ears. LOVE IT.

Alexis Silverman, my marching band is playing this song as closer as well 😁
That low wind break in the middle goes so hard!!!
My gosh just played this at our concert a couple hours ago and it was conducted by a student teacher that's leaving tomorrow :'( I cried so much at the end...
this is probably the funest song i´ve sightread on euphonium, i hope we play this for our end of the year concert
Y'all do realize most of Hazo's pieces sound scarily similar (i.e. Rush and Ride) right? He definitely has a specific style
Rush and Ride are supposed to be performed together since they are based off of each other but they rarely are played together.
Yeah a lot of composers music are very similar, same case with Robert w smith all his pieces are quite similar
He does have some range though, listen to perthshire majesty, I wouldn't have known it was a hazo piece of you didn't tell me
my band just started playing this, i play bass trombone. When we come in, these was only trombone. You couldnt hear anything else, it was awesome :D
I play trombone too
OMG. When I read your comment the first time, I thought it said
"I love the Suspended Cymbal. It's like almost doing something!"
That's right. The cymbals are like ALMOST doing SOMETHING... Almost
Former flute here, I absolutely love this piece. After I played this in my freshman year I knew I needed to join Percussion. Currently in battery as a senior this upcoming season ;)
I'm playing this for counties. The bari sax piece is awesome!
Never before has such a boss bass trombone part ever been scored
No recording I've heard of this ever captures the epicness of the percussion section
In my freshman year show in high school, we had Rush, Ride, and Olympiada in it. I love Samuel R Hazo.
This is the only song that I’ve ever been hyped to play suspended cymbal
Played this at put concert last night and I'm a percussionist it was truly an experience
Mr. Music8605 Were you Timpani?
2015 Marching show Closer right here. The sousaphones had fun with it.
2:14 The percussion is gonna have a fucking blast lmao
I'm a clarinet and I have to play this with the band at my graduation 😁😭
Have to? It should say "get to"
Played this piece in my school band, 1st trumpet was just crazy. One of the greatest pieces I ever were part of.
Also the best drums solo ever, just a insane transition.
I play percussion dor this song (2 deep toms). I swear, our section has the dopest line. I LOVE this song.
I was privileged to be able to play this piece with Samuel Hazo conducting today and it was absolutely amazing
I'll be honest, this song almost made me cry at its glory.
This was our closer for my schools 2021 Marching show, I played Quads on my second year of drumline, we just finished champs and I love this damn song so much
Hit them low notes with that Bari sax :P
My band just rehearsed with Mr. Hazo today, it was really great to have him here in Sandy Hook especially after what happened back in December.
this is my freshman year and we have to march to this piece. its gonna be hard!
We played this for our final concert and this song still gives me goosebumps every time i hear it the ending is just Amazing i was 2nd trumpet for this song but still played parts of the first trumpet
This song was soo fun to play on Base Trombone back in Highschool.....I still have the sheet music
My wind ensemble did a combined effort with a college wind ensemble and our symphonic winds. Together it was about 120 playing this godly piece. (I played bass clarinet) But yeah this is such an amazing piece and I still have the sheet music for it.
I'm first trumpet in this rn for 12th grade wind ensemble. It may be absolute hell but it is fun!
we are playing this for our first concert and i couldn't get the part at 1:18 and 3:08 out of my head. and of course the fanfare at the end
I remember playing this.... Memories man...
Our band is rehearsing with Sam Hazo today. He is helping us on his song Novo Lenio. It's a great piece if none of you have heard it.
I play flute. We are playing this song at our schools graduation. I love it so much. Beautiful chords :)
We didn't have it! I don't know why tho... I can listen to these pieces and still remember which parts were in the show.
I think this was the last piece I played in high school band. The underclassmen in the top couple bands performed at commencement, and then we graduates joined them to play what I think was this piece (it's been 16 years so I'm not 100% certain).
Hahahaha played this in seventh grade, the percussion is amazing in this. LOVE THIS PIECE! Best brass part at 1:28!!!!!!!
Timpani! The most fun piece I ever played:)
My high school marching band is using this as our opener, with a bit of Sousa thrown in :D
BAND GEEKS EVERYWHERE KNOW THIS ONE YUPPPPPPP
This put a smile to my face
bass trombone on this is insane
holy wow! My marching band did an arrangement of this back in 2013ish!
I play tuba and we did a good job playing this song
Yeah buddy! That part is so much fun to play! :D
I believe it is a grade 5
theres only two 1st trumpet parts in my band so we kinds struggle with this piece because we keep running out of air so theres no one else covering us
We played this and we had like 3 firsts, but one player to go into the higher octave at that one part in the Beggining and the others played 2nd. Talk about no breath :)
I know how you feel. But it was so much fun!
If only there were either more 5/8 or 3:4 polyrhythms.
I despise 5/8 except in this song tbh, I love the 3:4 poly's tho
3:4 is so common in western popular music. That certainly doesn't discount it, but I get bored of it. 5/8 feels more exotic to me.
Woah. You play the trumpet? Same here! But I play Second Trumpet, still, Trumpet-heads!
i play bass trombone, and i´m louder than the one above, if there is one :P but it´s so exhausting 0.o
This song sounds like it's from a ww2 movie
This song is based off the Olympics
the flute parts get pretty intense too
Memelord 666 They do I played this a few weeks ago and woah. It's an amazing piece but can be tough.
Have you ever played Solas Ańe
i was the 200,000 view!
3:47-3:52 put a chill through my spin
It's very similar to the song from the 1992 Japanese robot animation.

Haha I was on the rack n cymbals when I played this song man wow
I played this during my 10th grade year

Suspended Cymbal!
Miniman0404 currently playing this in my band class! WOO SUSPENDED CYMBAL
my brother freaking went hardcore with the tenor sax xD
we played this in JV band :P
The art of double and triple tonguing
Love how someone altered the pitch so that its in B instead of Bb
Brendan Henry I know it suck cuz you can’t play along
When I first played this piece, I wanted to play with audio recordings. I looked it up and it was played in B. I was shook, but it still sounds incredible in B. (Bb was good too)
Strange that this recording is a half step higher than the original composition. In B major instead of Bb.
This song really reminds me of the man of steel trailer
Trumpets never sound like wimps haha I played first trumpet for this. It's a challenge, but I like it
the trumpet part is hell. there is one part....bar line, line, line, line, note.
Our trumpets completely ruin this piece. Imagine that... Every other section nails it perfectly. Tenor/ bari sax parts are my fave.
Welcome to the Symphonic (Lower) band at my school. All the other sections got to be good enough to be in Wind Ensemble (Higher) band by the end of the year, but the trumpets still played like they were in middle school. Freaking dinguses
Arden Cline fancy seeing you here
In their defense it is really hard
Jonah Pawlak Truth be told, it's a challenging instrument. I'm primarily an Alto player, but when I started to double on trumpet I understood a lot better.
I know that it's hard, but we've played harder and they can't grasp this one 😂
Lol, did someone cough after
1:28

I actually played in the pit for this, as my marching band did this one year. I made the trumpets sound like wimps. Most gratifying thing in the world.

I am searching for a comment section on a piece of concert band music that doesn't have some dumb kid bragging about how they played it in Like 6th grade
2:14
It's here, not hear
Wheres sevens D:
should I call it a song, play, or piece? help me out guys
+Draconic Ryuken
A song has lyrics. A play has stage acting with little to no music. A composition without lyrics is a piece. So this is a piece.
+sheldon sutton oh thx :)
How can they tongue like that??? 2:55-2:59
double tonguing
how can you tongue like that dude? .-.
