I'm currently a senior in high school playing the trombone in the concert band. When I was a freshman we were going to play this song for our spring concert in April, but COVID hit just before we could. Because this song was a band favorite and the seniors missed their last concert, everyone was unhappy and frustrated. When we found out that we couldn't even play normally for the rest of the year, and the year after that, it was an even more painful hit. The band lost members after that year and many of our underclassmen in the years that followed missed out on two years of normal band and it was difficult to catch them up. However, three years later our band is stronger than ever. Our underclassmen made up for the years lost and I'm happy to say that we are back on track. As a celebration, we chose this song for our Spring conert in April this year, my final year, after not being able to play it my first year. Band was the most fun I've had at school, with all my skilled peers and influential teachers I'm so happy to finish it off with what I think is the best song we've ever played. Thank you to all teachers who never stopped trying to keep music alive and thank you to all the players who kept playing even when times were at their toughest. Thank you to Samuel R. Hazo for arranging this piece, and to the Hal Leonard Concert Band for putting it all together on RUclips. I will be leaving behind a fantastic band, but I'm certain that what I'm leaving behind will continue to improve and produce wonderful music.
I'm playing this song I'm my High school band for a school concert 3 years later and this song still lives in my head rent free. God I can still remember playing those trills on the flute 4 years later, it's my senior year, I might ask if we can play this again
Absolutely beautiful. I love the intensity, while still keeping it majestic. The kind of music you would play in a movie like Lord of the Rings. Strong, noble, and absolutely perfect.
I have returned once again, and discovered this beauty. It still stands strong, and is compounded by my experiences with Ghost of Tsushima and with my recent fascination with anime. Absolutely perfect background music for slaying Mongols.
I'd say it's got more Harry Potter tones than Lord of The Rings. Lord of The Rings (outside of Concerning Hobbits) is a very dramatic piece with focuses on the marching highs and lows that compound together, while Harry Potter has that more moving and flowing score to it that feels best described as a "magical" tone
i’m playing this for my upcoming concert as a freshman and i have the hihat part in percussion. it’s one of the best parts i’ve ever had and this song is absolutely incredible. i love every aspect of it and it just feels like a song in a movie like lord of the rings.
I’m so happy I get to play this, Shenandoah, and rhythm of the winds for my senior year. We finally get to do a lot of hard music for our concert band. The past years, we did grade 2-3 music so I’m so excited to finally play some “difficult” music (we’ve looked/played these before and I didn’t have much difficulty). Played arrows my freshman year (first time being put on 1st flute), and I played rhythm last year. We were supposed to do Shenandoah but people kept complaining about it. Anyway, I’m a hardcore flute/piccolo player✌🏻
I played this song last year when I was a 8th grader for a concert. I was 2nd flute. There was one other 2nd flute and she was a 7th grader. This song was my favorite of any of the songs I've had to play for concerts.
My first thought as well, I've been listen to a lot of the Hazo stuff and he just seems to write for chimes as most composers would write for bells, with actual melodies and moving notes. Normally it seems, if you play chimes, just expect to play a whole note when the band hits a chord.
1:39 The perfect prank. Turn it into Wii shop. It turns into Bossa Nova anyway. The Bass Drum and Hi Hat are basically already Wii Shop. And the 5 16th notes? It’s too easy.
As someone who got forced to learn the oboe for a couple months then got this song thrown at me it was absolute torture ( and as the only oboe too) it sounds nice just not when I’m playing it.
Aye, So am I! Hope you do/did well! Its gonna be the opener in the last concert for me. There is always at least 1 person that screams at the first note...

Bro no way I found you here. I was like, "Yo this sounds like someone I know" 😹

This is an update from 2019. I have just now rediscovered this song sitting literally at the bottom of my playlist for good music.
It's still good.

Hazo is such a good composer, my band director loves his music
I played chimes for this piece two years in a row and I think it's the most fun I've ever had with a piece.
I got to play the bass drum for this. Favorite piece to date. Made some of my favorite memories with the snare player and hi hat player. 12/10 piece.

lol yur doing this in high school, we did this in 5th grade
@@minghanli895 how badass was your band to do this in 5TH GRADE edit: just realized it was probably a lie
gotta love playing the uephonium in this piece. triple forte with a bass trombone is the most fun i've ever had outside of a music shop.
One of my favorite trumpet songs
Oml, 32nd notes on tubular bells.. the death of me if we ever manage to get to this level
Played this in 8th grade and now I'm playing it again as a senior in high school
Lol my band back in middle school COULD NEVER
We at playing this this year (April 2022) and it’s my senior year before I graduate and go to college…I love this song so much!! (I played Flute 1)
I SHOULDN'T HAVE NOSTALGIA FOR THIS I PLAYED IT THIS YEAR.
I played it this year at a Festival......I hope I won't have nostalgia too....
This was played at my school today, glad i've heard it.
i played this a while ago and it still sounds amazing!!
2:21 elevator jazz fusion, nice
My favorite part
@@flightlexx6985 Same
I like this piece! The driving aspect of this piece is greatly embraced but also, the slower moving aspect is captured.
hold up, did i just heard running notes, ON CHIMES?!?!
yea. It was fun to play that. Quite interesting huh.
Afiq Nadzri Ikr. I was surprised, too. Sounds good, though.
its so much fun, took me a while to get though

I played it this year, took me a day to learn and it sounded really cool
this song was so fun to play
2:21 at it with that elevator music
This is the best song ever!
2:57 “Bach Cantata” with “Rush” !!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Freshmen year was too lit 😤😤😤
Love playing the bass drum for this song
This is the greatest song I've ever played in my life. I am the tuba so it's hard so flollow everyone because it's full difficult to play so faster!
Dylan Elvidge SAME!!!
Dylan Elvidge me toooo the tuba part is by far the most fun🥴🥴
I'm the tuba in my band and we're playing it now. It's so awesome
I remember freshman year I was put on first. Ever since I’ve never been on second
1:39
The perfect prank.
Turn it into Wii shop. It turns into Bossa Nova anyway. The Bass Drum and Hi Hat are basically already Wii Shop. And the 5 16th notes? It’s too easy.
tuba is the bacon of music
yea tuba is basically always the bacon
My friend LOLED at this
Tuba is the deep fried butter on a stick of music
Indeed, i was a tuba player back at high school! Boi this piece was difficult
And even if it kills you, you can never get enough bacon!!
I love this song!
Sander Olsen it's a piece
2:21, cause arrows make me feel jazzy
this is the song that got my middle school band first place, against 4 other high schools
Weird hearing how it's supposed to be played... An not just hearing flute and base clarinet.
Jersh Bass Clarinets 4 life
Jersh I cannot explain how on point that comment is
Great song
Well played
Also. Best band song ever. Aha
I'm playing this at festival but it gives me a sort of Viking vibe I don't know why
I'm playing as a trumpet
YESSSS THE DISSONANCE AT 1:36
My Band music
Bruhh so many musical references. Please tell I'm not the only one who hears the references to Ride, Rush, and Enchanted spaces
Am I the only one that hears a chime trill at 0:56?
nope
Yep
Isn't quite a trill but no you weren't the only one. I played this for All County Band this past February.
The chimes part for this piece is so much fun. Definitely puts it the top 10 of what I have played.
As someone who got forced to learn the oboe for a couple months then got this song thrown at me it was absolute torture ( and as the only oboe too) it sounds nice just not when I’m playing it.
we did this for our marching band show last semester!
ma boi
Beef Stew boi
When you miss your senior band friends but they haven’t graduated just yet
what
Is that instrument that has whole notes at 1:47 to 1:55 a synthesizer?
+Chenzy3701 Its tuba and bass clarinet I believe.
+Chenzy3701 Looks like it
+Chenzy3701 Its a synthesizer :)
no its just a mob of flutes playing super quiet... atleast thats what i hear :I
Well I mean you could just look at the arrangement score, but you can't see anything, but it's not the flutes though. I think it's percussion 4.
Dat 7th grade nostalgia
Please stop spamming.
i'm playing it now and i'm in 8th grade just started today in fact
Nathaniel is that you?!?
XD hey Laura yeah its me ;)
Oh okay. I saw your name and the profile picture but I had to make sure. Haha.
Aye, So am I! Hope you do/did well! Its gonna be the opener in the last concert for me. There is always at least 1 person that screams at the first note...
lmao how did it go
hi ellie
I feel like playing the percussion 3 part would suck since its just wind chimes lol
2:02 That Japanese folk song?
Needs a resolution, I can’t really see anything
Snare and high hat tho
Sounds a lot like exultate and arabesque combined
i can only hear arabesque a bit because when they held that note it sounded like the begining of the oboe solo
2:20
0:55
Tehe
How the f am I gonna play this XD
my lord this piece is difficult for a freshman oboe (me)
I’m flute 2 in this and I hate it.
2:15
