I loved playing this one! I may have been soloing on Clarinet 3, but goddamn I think I rocked it. If you're ever soloing a part, do what your director says but also get out on that stage and own that part, because it is yours and yours to make your own.

I'm a senior now, and Frank Ticheli is actually one of my favorite composers (we played Angels in the Architecture and Vesuvius in my band last year, are playing An American Elegy this year and played Vesuvius in District Band, AND we're singing one of his choral pieces in choir) and it just blew my mind to know that I actually played a piece by him years before I really knew who he was :)
I had been playing Clarinet for 3 years and when I entered high school, this was the first peace I thoroughly enjoyed playing throughout all 4 years. Thank you Mr. Ticheli.

My band teacher always accelerated too much at the last part of the song. It made it fun to play and added a bit of mystery and more of a "finale" feeling.
Read this a couple of times in my high school band over the past week. We played Blue Shades last year, and ever since then Ticheli has just stood out to me as a fantastic composer. Great song.

there is a yearly thing at my school called "continuum" which is a huge concert the week before summer where all of the band comes together and plays a huge preformance with acting and music and the band is the cast and last years theme was magic, this was the first song we played. Its really a load of fun, I hope you like the piece.
I am in both the concert and symphonic band at my school, and both classes are doing a Frank Ticheli piece. Abracadabra is the one we are playing in concert, and to be honest it is a lot more fun to play than Fortress, the one we are playing in symphonic band!!!
