They had a sale today and will have another on the 28th. Right now it’s priced around $360. On sale it was $270. Going to be the first RC I’ve had in a while. Pretty excited!
That was one of the best running videos I've ever watched great job driving and filming! Is it worth the money.... absolutely! I think it's a value at that!
I like it! While I don't own any RedCat products I always thought they have been underrated. Very appropriate RedCat chose to make an older version of the International Scout. Just the look of the old "Binders" is cool. Great video of KOH style of driving it through the rocks. You weren't babying it at all and it stood up to the bashing. Should be interesting to see how these will be modified by the scale crawlers out there. Thumbs Up RedCat!
So excited someone is doing a licensed 800 body, I've had a full-size 80 for over 20 years and always thought they looked so much better than the scout 2s. Definitely preordering this, the only thing I don't like is the cage vs having a top, but that will be feasible to fab later.
2-speed upgrade for my gen 8!? Great overview of the truck. Redcat is killing it on pricing for a trail rig. Paid $288 for the gen 8 v2 a few months ago. 👍👍
Great vid! I am probably going to add one of these to my "Gen" stable. I own a Gen7, Gen8 V1, AXE, V2, Wendigo, Kit Wendigo, and 2 Marksman (my wife drives with me on occasion). I love the 2 speed option, and will definitely be adding it to my older rigs. Especially my LCG "competition" build, so I can gear it way down in 1st and still drive at a reasonable trail speed in 2nd (I don't really compete). It will also add some speed to my Gen8 based ratrod (rails, drive train, no transfer case for rear wheel drive only). I know I sound like a total Redcat fanboy (to some degree I am), but it really comes down to they have treated me right with support issues, they address and update minor issues over time, and I only have one major parts tree to keep track of. So, when a transfer case or trans gear goes in any of those vehicles I already have a metal set on hand and ready to drop in. Same with slipper pads, spur gear, ring and pinion gears. My buddy with his Traxxas trucks feels the same way. He has 3 TRX4s and only needs a couple of spare items to keep them going. Redcat says they have 9 more releases coming this year!
I have 2, a danchee ridge rock and a Gen 7. I'm hoping this year a new model will be released, flat bed crawler. With 2.2 or bigger tires. I'm just 100% happy with my Redcats.
I have couple off redcats and think they are under rated but they have good platform and l really like them few mods and you have a great truck. It's worth the price and the controller has more channels for added features.
Awesome video and sweet rig! It's something to consider in addition to my Gen8! I can definitely attest to my Gen8 being very top heavy and I can only imagine this rig being even more so, due to the interior, the roll cage and the new mounting system brackets. Can't wait to see how you bring down your C.O.G. in the future!
5:12 I'd paint the door panels black. The Interco Swampers are amazing crawling tires imo. I have the Gen 7 and they give you 3 sticker sheets even woodgrain. I'll probably paint mine anyways. They look very plain.
Grate video! I’ve been thinking about getting one of these. I got the axe addiction for my first rc but this body style has been one ive always wanted in a real vehicle. Grate vid
Bought my first Blue Gen8 for $269 on sale down from $299 at my local hobby shop. I built a second Gen8 with a Redcat kit that was given to me with a $25 orange body from Craigslist. Had less than $100 into that one. Never went for the AXE. Thought it was a little over priced at $499. The second edition of Gen8 in green and purple went from $299 to $339 fairly quickly so all in all with the two speed, the updated axles, the updated transmitter and the very cool late model body I think the extra $60 up from the 2nd edition is, especially with the continued rise in shipping, a reasonable price. The new body is awesome. Might have to pick up another one. Sold all my Redcat stuff to get a VS4-10 Pro. What are the chances of the Vanquish bodiless builders kit being re-released. Would like to put the new Scout body on top of a Vanquish chassis.
I feel like we're seeing the "rode hard and put away wet" entry for your auctions, lol. As for the truck itself, they nailed the styling and from what I saw on Matt's review, it's pretty well put together, axles aside. I'd pay $400 for this before I paid $300 for the Sendero SE.
Really heavy. Currently saving up for a gen 9. For now I have a gen 7 sport. In 3 months of daily hard use, tires are hardly wearing at all. Unbelievably good rock crawler, very heavy, with a featherweight shell. Built like a tank due to the steel links, and all metal chassis. Very nice crawler.
I’m buying one when it’s available. I have Gen7 gen8 and soon gen9. Where I live at there aren’t many rocks close by. I do enjoy walking trails and running trucks. Guess I’m getting options. Swapping the g2 1080 asap. Good review.
I dont know that I would buy one. I seem to be on a only wanting vanquish trucks now thing hahaha, or custom comp trucks blah blah. But redcat has come a long way. I think they are contending well. The body is off. But looks good to. Great review man. 😎👍👍
Ye Josh I kinda thought the same thing when looking at the body, it looks a bit chunky kinda tall the doors etc somethings just off.. I almost think in this scenario they would of been better off with a 12.5 /12.8 wheelbase in order to stretch the body dimension more to size vs the the 12.3 and I prefer 12.3 but something doesn't look right to my eyes... I must say I'm shocked Redcat asked you a Vanquish guy to even give a review, I couldn't imagine Vanquish asking Redcat to review the Phoenix ,I found that in itself a bit odd, having said that Great job Redcat I love seeing the RC industry innovate and grow..........Great stuff as always Josh 💯
Just ordered A Silver one. HW Ace Combo and reefs servos. Sold my Gen 8 it was good but they stepped up the game on the 800. Any suggestions for tires? 😅
Amain has them for $260 right now. No brainer at that price. Putting a Holmes Hobby Trail Master and a Hobbywing 1080 in it. Changing the shocks to the bronze Element shocks. I think it's going to do well.
G'day m8....me personally id rather purchase another VP builders kit and a body for my $399..... but for newbies this gives more options out there world wide. Of the few big boy company's with sales and service, Redcat is one. Cheers Josh ol son and happy new year from Downunder😁
For 399$, I would rather buy a Phoenix kit personally. But for people new to the hobby. I suppose its good. I mean it's no base camp which is still what I would suggest for a person new to crawling.
I agree it was a awesome video as usual. My own stupidity for having notifications on today though! How many of these rigs did they give away before they were available to the general public? I've got at least 18 notifications. Lol don't waste your time guys the Gen 8 is down to $250 at LHS. Thanks again for the incredible review Josh. Your knowledge is legendary!👍
Would be kinda cool if there was an optional soft top for it. But I really like it. Great video of Folsom lake showing some of the best crawling in the area. Happy New Year's Josh
I have a Gen8 which was a great value for the money - not a fan of the velcro body attachment though. The Gen9 seems better in some regards. However after watching your video, I'm a little disappointed with body attachment mechanism. Hopefully you can tighten the levers a bit to make them less prone to coming loose while driving. Also, the Gen8 is a little top heavy and it appears that the Gen9 is still fairly top heavy. Maybe a Gen9 V2 will solve some of these issue. Great video and review though. Thanks!
I tell ya. That @whistlindiesel durability test has me sold. Good looking rig. Thanks for sharing it with us! I wonder what your Canadian knife maker buddy thinks about it. Lol
Nice review! I commented about just such a new release on the Scale News E239 a couple weeks back, lol. I wasn't expecting the 2-speed tranny though. Looks nice!
Axial Early Bronco has 3 pedals. And three shifter levers, I guess because one is for DIG? Waiting for someone to come out with 4 pedals. Show the parking brake some love.
RedCat Better have an abundance of these for sale as im sure there all going to be snapped up as i will definitely be going to buy one and I am a fan of there stuff as had no issues what so ever with the Gen 8 v1 the bright Orange due co reminds me of the two ginger Cat's i once had -Ginge & Meesha what a Beautiful pair of animals they where but now looking forwards to the Silver version to put some mountain ranger decals on the doors and replicate Mt Shasta prk rangers patrol vehicles.
If it was $300, $350, it might be tempting. At $400 though, I’d rather have the Traxxas TRX4 with 2 speed transmission and locking differentials for $450-$500. It a trail truck so being able to unlock the diffs is nice for handling in some situations. Also parts are readily available for Traxxas.
6x6 redcat would be nice. Trx 6x6 is stupidly overpriced. Axial discontinued their 6x6. NO way will I own anything trashmas after their warranty scams!
first Redcat crawler I'd consider owning but I need another crawler like I need a hole in my head. Needs a couple small tweeks but if spending money is not required I don't consider that a draw back.
If you go to Redact Gen9 page it looks like it should just drop in with on have to drill 2 holes to mount the mini servo. I am probably going to buy 4 of them!
It is nearly impossible to beat the Gen8 Axe as RTR's go, especially considering the electronics package, but It's nice to see a new truck from Redcat. I won't be getting a free RC, I guessed a KOH style vehicle 😭😆😆😆
So clearly Redcat got licensing from IH again (and good for them), but I felt like the Gen8 wasn't quite as capable as something like an Axial SCX10, and the aftermarket Gen8 specific support is definitely lacking. That said... You just did a video (or I just saw it) on the Vanquish VS4-10 Ultimate, which has a remarkably similar look to the IH Scout 80/800 body style, and I even found some aftermarket support to enhance that suggestion (grill inserts with the INTERNATIONAL script like the latet 800's had). So I know I've heard that you actually work for Vanquish at your dayjob, so this may be an unfair ask... but... VS4-10 Ultimate, or Redcat Gen9?
At least you didn't break yours like Matt did.haha I like my Gen 8. There are some things I like on the Gen 9 better but overall, I'll prob not upgrade.
That is a Great Improvement Over the Gen 8 v2 which is also Top Heavy... So I have a Scale Wrestling Figure for a Driver, Will it Fit with leg's and feet??? Thank's for the Review I'm kinda digging it but still want a phoenix w/portals kit 🤪😜🤪 hmmm ✌🤠👍 HFLPRCing =Having Fun Laughing Playing and RCing 👍😎👍 AOAH =Association of Addicted Hobbiest 🙏 SSPH =Stay Safe and Play Healthy Josh 💯🏁
It may say 3S capable but with any redcat stuff with that ESC it will go up in flames as soon as the motor has resistance. Ive had 2 of 2 redcats go up in flames once put on 3S. No thanks. Also that test location is absolutely beautiful.
Yeah, the stock battery is really good. Some people have to be modifying everything, I'd rather spend my time crawling, nothing needs changed at all. I don't have the money or the time burning up stuff.
I like it, except the caster amd one piece housing. If I'm driving for points, this is going to be further down the list unless they come out with a cheap 10°or higher option housing. If the gears hold up, I could see aftermarket housings coming out to fix that also
As I remember the Scout 800 was sort of odd looking in real life. That said I may have to buy me one of these. Any top cap available for this body and I wonder if they will release an .stl file for the side mirrors. Looks like the suspension has good articulation out of the box.
Great review, thanks! The only niggle for me is the front wheels not being centered in the wheel opening. That can be easily corrected with longer lower links which should help the lack of caster too.
I have to admit as hard as you were bashing it not so much crawling I'm shocked at the times I thought that Big Fat Body was gonna roll completely over 😀 and it kept on going, have to give credit there if nothing else lol
They had a sale today and will have another on the 28th. Right now it’s priced around $360. On sale it was $270. Going to be the first RC I’ve had in a while. Pretty excited!

I love me some rock bashing! If it goes that fast, I’m going to drive it that fast!
I got a gen 7 pro a d gen 8 v2 both great crawlers out the box even better with upgrades!!

2-speed upgrade for my gen 8!? Great overview of the truck. Redcat is killing it on pricing for a trail rig. Paid $288 for the gen 8 v2 a few months ago. 👍👍
Nice revision. At $399 Axial better get their stuff in order.
We have gen9 already. It was a brand that I was interested in. Thank you for the great review.👍😃

I just pictured a smile on your face from that run footage
I think right kind of stickering could help a lot with the looks, so you wouldn't have just a massive flat door/sidepanel
Nice looking truck, now I want one. Some of the best scale terrain I think I’ve ever seen in a video. I need that in my area.
We have come so far since the days of scx10 v1 and e10/gen 7
What you get out of the box anymore would have been a dream 7-8 years ago.
That was some epic running video! got the music and the speed just right. looks like it goes pretty good, and should be pretty durable. great video!
The scx10 iii early bronco had pedals in it similar to those.
You beat Redcat on the announcement Ha ha, waiting for the launch video now
I feel like we're seeing the "rode hard and put away wet" entry for your auctions, lol.
As for the truck itself, they nailed the styling and from what I saw on Matt's review, it's pretty well put together, axles aside. I'd pay $400 for this before I paid $300 for the Sendero SE.
Element always seemed way too bare to justify the price. The shocks are nice, but really hard to justify when the details are barely there
Really heavy.
Great driving, Josh! When I thought the Gen9 was going to roll again you recovered. Great control.
I’m buying one when it’s available. I have Gen7 gen8 and soon gen9. Where I live at there aren’t many rocks close by. I do enjoy walking trails and running trucks. Guess I’m getting options. Swapping the g2 1080 asap. Good review.
Josh'd it pretty hard and she held up. couple of those shots made me wince, i thought it was for sure gonna break. but, it kept on goin.
What category does the redcat everest 10 fall into for competitions?
It doesn’t really fit into scale competitions as it is, but it would be closest to Class 3.
I think this is a good revision from the Gen8. I actually quite dig the body.
It seems that my favorite RC car has been out for a long time. It is so beautiful.🎉❤👍
I dont know that I would buy one.
I seem to be on a only wanting vanquish trucks now thing hahaha, or custom comp trucks blah blah.
But redcat has come a long way.
I think they are contending well.
The body is off.
But looks good to.
Great review man.
😎👍👍
Good video as always. Also a good price for what you get with the gen 9.
I’m just picturing a nice set of metal beadlocks on this
Felt like I was watching an episode fall guy with scout instead of a Chevy. Great video 🤙🏼
This will be my first Redcat!!!!🤘🤘🤘
Great running video and review. That thing took a beating !
Ye Josh I kinda thought the same thing when looking at the body, it looks a bit chunky kinda tall the doors etc somethings just off.. that looks great. The tires are too big and I think some smaller ones would give it a better scale look. Looks nice. Like what they've done here.
Wow man, the clouds made for some really great shots!
I was lucky to not be running this in crazy rain and wind!
That running video is on point!
Super good video, had me crying while you were bashing that big bodied betty.
G'day m8....me personally id rather purchase another VP builders kit and a body for my $399..... but for newbies this gives more options out there world wide. Of the few big boy company's with sales and service, Redcat is one. Cheers Josh ol son and happy new year from Downunder😁

I have a Gen8 and I think it’s better than the Trx4! It’s a very sturdy machine
👍👏👏👏👏👏
Death b4 traxxas!
I agree it was a awesome video as usual. My own stupidity for having notifications on today though! How many of these rigs did they give away before they were available to the general public? Great review & excellent run footage 🤘💯 6 months in, how's she holding up?

What a great review, thorough.
Sick, great run
Wow! That was an epic KOH style thrashing!! Awesome! I like the truck! Well done Redcat. Thanks for the awesome running footage!
Nice review! I commented about just such a new release on the Scale News E239 a couple weeks back, lol. I wasn't expecting the 2-speed tranny though. Looks nice!

great running video, I feel you could release it on its own.
The Axial Scx10 iii bronco has the foot petals and then some
Looks awesome. great job Redcat really like the body 👍
Slant four this is nice!
Nice shirt, where can I get one?
Josh to Redcat new RTR- OK, lets see whatcha got. Had me laughing with the "hold my beer" style of review. Hey, but the other mirror held on tho.
Definitely think it's worth the 399. Especially comparing features w/ axial
& traxxas
About time lol I thought they would be coming out with gen 9
6x6 redcat would be nice. Trx 6x6 is stupidly overpriced. Axial discontinued their 6x6. NO way will I own anything trashmas after their warranty scams!
I like it but you’re right. At certain angles that body does look a little wonky for lack of a better word.
Axial early Bronco has pedals on the floor. At least mine did. I bought it used. Maybe someone can confirm if they’re stock.
Lieutenant Dan would probably fit in that seat just fine!
Nice smart of redcat giving you for review
Beautiful run video . Gen 9 looks good to me .
Excellent review! Thanks for keeping it real as always. 🤜🤛
first Redcat crawler I'd consider owning but I need another crawler like I need a hole in my head. Needs a couple small tweeks but if spending money is not required I don't consider that a draw back.
Dope running video Josh! Where was that shot at?
Oak Point at Folsom Lake.
That body looks odd?The scale looks off?
Where did you get the RC Truck stand that you used in this video?
It's a Crawler Innovations Cell Block
Looks good o ly thing I would have like to seen is a removable top
The body mounting is a step in the right direction for sure. I'm sure the end user can refine that. Now, wonder if that 2 speed will drop in a Gen8 🤔
Exocaged's video said they were making a kit to make it fit the Gen 8.
@Adam Carpenter ah, nice. I haven't gotten to his vid yet.
Aside from electronics, the trx4 sport blows the gen8 away in overall performance
They had a great electronics package but performance of these cars needs some work. The weight of these cars up top makes it a handful to crawl well.
Trx4 is an antiquated design. So old it's in a wheelchair eating thru a straw. Every manufacturer has up to date crawler designs, EXCEPT for trashmas.
Noting beats the Phoenix as far as a rtr goes.
Fender wells still look way off. Flairs looks way off too. Other than that it looks like the one I drove sometimes to haul wood for friend.
Thank's for the Review I'm kinda digging it but still want a phoenix w/portals kit 🤪😜🤪 hmmm

Redcat coming in hot with the scale interior! The scaling of the scout always bugged me but damn! Pretty good looking rig!
Harder than it looks to bash a crawler 👍😎
This beast looks like the next monthly mayhem challenge!
I like it, except the caster amd one piece housing. If I'm driving for points, this is going to be further down the list unless they come out with a cheap 10°or higher option housing. If the gears hold up, I could see aftermarket housings coming out to fix that also
Is this licensed or do we need to jump on them before the cease and disist order?
must be if it says international on it.
It's licensed
As I remember the Scout 800 was sort of odd looking in real life. That said I may have to buy me one of these. Any top cap available for this body and I wonder if they will release an .stl file for the side mirrors. Looks like the suspension has good articulation out of the box.
i am going to get this in blue and make it look as close as i can to the game snowrunners version of the scout 800😂 i just have to
Loved the running footage, I do not have a Red cat but I would buy this.
Too bad they are not into the builders kit scene...
I think the price is good very reasonable for what you get for a licensed body 2 speed ect .
Explained well with the “depending on the angle” I keep saying it looks very good but then I get an angle where I’m like….Hmmm
Great review, thanks! The only niggle for me is the front wheels not being centered in the wheel opening. That can be easily corrected with longer lower links which should help the lack of caster too.
the only WHAT now ???
Lol
very nice running video
I have to admit as hard as you were bashing it not so much crawling I'm shocked at the times I thought that Big Fat Body was gonna roll completely over 😀 and it kept on going, have to give credit there if nothing else lol
Yeah it rolled a lot, but I had enough good shots to put it together!
@Harley Designs That was definitely some great video 💯
Looks really good! I love my Gen 8.
Would have been nice to see the new axles a little closer...otherwise a great looking rig! Thanks!
Might get me one love my Gen 7
I like the body. Hopefully they will sell just the body as a part.
