The 9 looks like the next iteration of the Scout that AMC did in the mid/late 70's. It was definitely uglier, but this is a faithful representation of the asthetics.
gen 8 Wheelbase (312-336mm Adjustable) gen 9 Wheelbase: 312mm - 336mm Adjustable . over the years i stopped bying rtr and got kits because generally the first thing i do is save the body and put my own chevy c10 on . pretty much all stock electrics suck so i pull it all out and sell it . i prefer muchmore esc / motors , servos i really like the $30 powerhobby 190mg . shocks lxshocks bypass when i put them together i swap in viton o-rings and use fox shock oil , wheels hobbysoul ghost 2.2 with fling king 1.9 tires , or mud slingers , being able to pick and choose what we like is what makes this hobby so much fun !!
Did you have a Tire preference? I kind of thought the Gen9 had the edge. Have you ever run a test like that and then swapped tires to run it again? That may show some surprising things!
Really enjoyed this one! I know the 800a body isnt for everyone but i like it. Still going to wait and see what parts will swap into my 8. Redcat said on a live stream that there is a kit coming to swap the two speed into the Gen 8. Looking forward to seeing how the new axles last also.
The Gen 9 is certainly built better and is going to be more durable. The Gen 9 should also perform better overall, although it looks like they are pretty close? Interested to see how things pan out. Thanks for the comparison 👍
The gen8 looks like it could use some bigger tires and it would perform like a new truck. Kept getting caught on everything, those tiny tires wrecked the approach angle 🤣
Hi Mr. Exocaged, I love your Gen 8 body paint. Two colors and transparent windows. Mine is standard and it gave me a lot of fun and videos too. Now the Gen 9 looks the right evolution and makes me wanting. The only thing is that in Italy it will be way more expensive (shipping, custom...) despite the US price that to me looks perfect. Thank you for the video. Ciao Nanni
I think it's only 60 more for the gen 9, which isn't bad to get the interior, 2speed transmission, 2speed servo, and the few upgrades to pan mount and axles
@@brandonupchurch5015 Totally agree, the price is more than fair and the car has a lot of upgrades, I'm tempted to put it near the 8 even if in Italy It will cost way more about 150,00 $ more. Thank you for comment. Ciao, Nanni
Joe have you ever tried proline super swamper XL tires? I’d like to see your opinion on them! Tons of guys swear by them and equate them to a smaller rupture….. one that would fit my trx4 21 bronco 🤣😁 Hear they’re really good in wet conditions as well
Don't know if you did not know what was the new truck I would say the G8 looked better out on the course...also is it true out of the box the G9 is a fatty at over 9lbs?
Why leave the spare on the back of gen 8? Extra weight hanging off the back not to mention departure angle. Sorry....but to me that comparison is biased. And I always thought gen8 was too big for a 1/10 but looking at that front shot at the end of your video with both of them side by side on the shelf....wow that scout 800 body is huge. Yep...not for me I know a lot of people prefer the 800 but I always leaned towards the scout II . Personal preference.
I like what they did with it and that interior is epic but I do like the Gen 8 body better (And I'm a V1 Team Orange guy all the way) Really curious to see if the Gen 9 will come in at a more reasonable price when you can actually get one in Canada because right now you can get a Gen 8 for a hair over $400 and the Gen 9 is 50% more if you order from Redcat in the states... that is rough! Pretty much the same price as the Axe Edition Gen 8, which would be the one I would want out of the three for that big price tag
Yeah the axe edition is my favorite too, I hated when they discontinued it. Probably was making more off the gen 8 v2. But I was lucky enough to get one off a guy
Imo Gen 8 looks so much better and doesn’t perform that much different than the Gen 9 ….a few bennies from the Gen 9 upgrades but not sure it would be worth it for me! I think I’ll just stick with my Gen 8 ..
Other then the 2 speed tranny and front Universals compared to CVT joints. I don't see the value in getting the Gen 9. Especially when the 2 speed tranny is going to be a kit for the gen 8s and much sooner then later a front axle Universal joint kit will be made available for the gen 8 as well. The redcat live engineer kind of eluided to that if the demand is there, and it will be. I hate how the 800 is another axe version. They should have released it with a removable hardtop, looks much better then the open roof roll cage. They could of also made a international pick up truck. Also, my gen 8v2 that I bought February 2022 new has the same skid plate with double sheer points for the links. So yes, other than 2 speed, universals, shorter wheel base, bump steer eliminated, and different floor boards / inner fenders due to wider wheelbase. They are exactly the same chassy platform.
I really dislike both bodies. I swapped my gen 8 body out for a ford raptor body. My body was getting caught on everything. I will say it does crawl pretty dang good.
tbh the gen 9 looks way better built, but in your testing here it didn't really translate to better performance. Also subjectively, the gen 9 is way uglier. Given that I already have a gen8 axe I think I'll just stick with that, though I'm tempted to do a body swap because the axe body is so heavy. Don't really see myself getting another redcat at this point tbh. If I get another 1/10 crawler it'll probably be something purpose built instead of a rtr.
8 looks so much better. I'll probably keep my 8 but replace the few weaker parts with the upgraded ones from the gen9.
Couldn't agree more, the 8 looks way better, I love mine
That's what I am doing.
Same here, I like the open roof but that's why I got an axe edition.
@Brandon Upchurch
TBH, I think they tried to revamp the Axe body. But🤷♂️

It was a closer match then I thought it would be.
I have gen8 axe edition. Love that crawler.
Me too, i think im gonna try to put the 2 speed and steering assembly on it once they are available
Really diggin the gen 9. Great side by side review and that rock course is next level! 👍🏼
Excellent 👍

Great comparison
I am curious if you can put the whole Gen9 axles on the Gen8 and call it a day, including the driveshafts, panhard and the steering.

Is there a way to use gen 9 steering parts to fix gen 8 steering problem .?
I put landmines, 2 stage, and treal wheels on mine. Just to personalize it.

great review and commentary on the differences between the two!
What have you done with the suspension on your gen 9 Joe to remove all the excessive body roll?
Are the gearing in the axles the same? And can gen8 brass swap over?
I just want the 2 speed in my gen 8
I love my Gen 8!!! Maybe I'll get the Gen 9 if they make a kit???

Super vidéo 📼 ❤
I enjoy your vids and reviews. Do you have decals so I guy can put on a rig.
Would the gen 8 body posts fit on the gen 9
Love the side by side comparison. Looks like both those Gennys could use some Deez shock bands. 😅
How did you fix the lean that the gen 8 has on it?
Morn'n Brother 💪
So there's an ad below your video selling shirts thru spring are you affiliated? Its all Exotic gear
Don't know if you did not know what was the new truck I would say the G8 looked better out on the course...also is it true out of the box the G9 is a fatty at over 9lbs?
I have the 8 I need the 9.
Thinking 8 (v1 & v2) as crawling, 9 as trail truck.
Win either way!🤷♂️
Awesome video! What do you think of the accuracy of scaling? Is it a true 1/10 scale?
It’s a bit wide imo.
@@ExocagedRC thanks! Keep up the great work we all appreciate it!

1st thing everybody does is remove the spare! Luckily v2 had no spare. Had the mount🤷♂️
Best video today! (So far)
I can’t wait to get a gen9

O yeah cool cool cool stuff 👌💯
Joe your missing the vitavon body posts on your dbxl-e 2.0.
Ok

👍😁
what if the best cheapest 1/10 crawler under 150 usd?
Used gen 8 or mini
...no such thing if you want it new.
@@themountain59
Oops. I read wrong. Thot it was 'used'. (Scarey thing is, I fly🤯😳).
There's a fms (rok hobby) 4x4 & 6x6 rtr u can get new for around $150.00
Ridgerock is 139 and everest 10 is 179, e10 is better because of upgrading ability but riderock is more of your range

I Actually love the axe. I also don't know if I like the height of the doors on the gen 9
Should do a shootout same tires with 100 dollars in mods not including electrics and see what one you like best
I really dislike both bodies. I swapped my gen 8 body out for a ford raptor body. My body was getting caught on everything. I will say it does crawl pretty dang good.
All parts must be special ordered by lhs owner. No parts at store.

Not really a crawler. A real good trail truck. You want a crawler get a ascent
The more they evolve the uglier the body?
