I agree. Francis is solid solid solid with his reviews! And if anyone deserves a review model he does. But it's unfortunate that Redcat sends them to the top 10 reviewers to release videos before they are available to the general public. The Redcat Gen 8 is available for $250 now at my LHS. Kind of a no brainier when I walk in there and the 9 is not available. Give me 2 of the 8's lol. Awesome review and running footage. Thank you and really really glad to see you are still ok out there in that mess of weather!
Best bang for your buck is the Redcat Gen8 V2! With very little money you can compete with trx4’s and scx10ii or scx10iii! Just my opinion but I believe 9 out of 10 people would agree. If you don’t own a Gen8 then you can’t understand why it’s so good.
Good mid range truck. Will do the job, for the price. The international was a great rig but the absolute lack of body lines leaves a little to be desired, but I will take an I-harvester over a jeep any day.
Thank you & Redcat I’ve been waiting for a new Redcat crawler forever now. Back to their roots. I have the Gen 8 Marksmen & Windigo so I’ve been a Redcat fan for along time now. I’m just thrilled with this😊
Coming from fpv getting into crawlers got my first gen8 v2 and happy with! I want to say you have got one of best channels out there that I really enjoy watching you do reviews on stuff! Can tell you love the hobby and that's a great thing to see. Looking forward to seeing more reviews and just wanted to say my thank you to you! 💯
Wow! my first crawler was the Gen 8. This looks very very nice. I love Scout and the licensed body is a great step. Yes a lot of details even if I find it a little heavy and flat, may be some paintings to improve detailing (a little bit chrome around rear lights...). Interior has to be less blue so may be black gummy carpets. Super body mount! 2 speeds! Good for the radio! Engine... Hobbywing. Love sliders that keep the body. What a difference with new tires! At the end Bravo Redcat!! Ciao, Nanni
Just bought a Gen 8V2 NYE when it came up on FB under 300 with shipping. It arrives tomorrow and today I see this great review! I was considering some other trucks for much more money, but your review changed my mind. This looks like a really good rig for the price.
You and RcDriver have the best rc videos. I only like Greg’s videos cause of his schematic shots but your videos are so helpful when it comes to comparing trucks or the details on the truck.
You did another great review. If the shifting servo goes bad, will the company replace it? What servo did you use to replace the shifting servo? Thanks.
AS long as the servos STAY at 6 volt output, servos will last forever. Changing the esc output &/or esc & jumping to 7.4-8.4 volts kills 6v electronics. NO WARRANTY will be allowed. & yes we can tell.
Pretty cool vehicle and great review as always! For people like me that already own a gen 8 I don't really see a lot of incentive to buy this rig, just seems a lot like a gen 8 with a two-speed and a different body mount setup.
True, true. If you have your body mounting and suspension/steering geometry fixed on the Gen8, this is similar. A 2-speed upgrade is a possibility if you don't have the speed range of a brushless system yet.
First, great review. I love that you really review the vehicle for what it is versus pitting it against other manufacturers 👍 I have a Gen7 with the rare Beta Portals that Redcat released in very limited quantities. The Gen7 always serves as a backup, and gets pulled out everytime another rig breaks. So, it is a beast. Plus, many kids got these rigs to run with their parents. So, I love talking to the kids about their rigs and seeing them get excited talking about their trucks. It is what the sport is all about. Then bought the Gen 8 and love what they did as an RTR. This rig has seen less than 100 yards of use. I took a break for 2 years 😢 Can't wait to get the Gen9. For an out of box RTR, they are really great machines. I have bought many others and they break before I even leave the Hobby Store course. That is sad on other manufacturers. I have an SCX10 II with thousands of dollars into it, all that money and the Redcat comparatively competes head to head.
Thank you I love your reviews. I have to have one my Dad always had the old Scouts and they have memories. I love driving a real Jeep, but this is a must have!
Wow what a beautiful spot for crawling, that water fall beautiful Yep we’re here watching. Just got done watching Matt Skill builders guide he just broke the driver side tire rod off knuckle, I think the bracket is what broke bummer
Frances, thank you for the review and your videos are always so engaging. This Gen9 is definitely on my bucket list, I wish it came in green color though.
Damn. Green. Exactly what I was thinking. GREEN!! I've got an 800 series 1966 real deal full sz waiting to be restored setting in my yard waiting to be restored. Maybe I'll just jump in it & just drive it as im fixing it. If not I'll never get around to actually driving it!!
I ordered one it’s arriving today. On sale. But kinda 2nd guessing myself. SBC broke the left knuckle on a single rollover. Many people stating 2 speed servo burns out( Axial has same issue on the dig servo. The transmission seems very noisy in the videos.
Nice! It will release on my birthday :). Still having a blast with my 1/10 TRX-4 2021 bronco but trying to decide next what 1/10 crawler I should get after. Just got back into the hobby recently after moving back to Vegas and loving all these content you’ve created to get me back into the love of RC’s. Thank you!
I love my gen 8 axe. I put it on 2.2's which is fun. The bump steer I have never been able to completely get rid of. I cannot wait to see what you do with this. Maybe a fusion 2300kv? or the 1800kv se!? Cant wait for more on this.
We bought the Gen9 Saturday, and the axle shaft pin already broke. Hopefully it was just a fluke on my Gen9 and not anything to do with the new design. We filed a warranty claim on it this morning and hope to hear back from the company soon.
So glad I held off on the Gen 8V2- I have a real 67 800 and this one looks better lol- Do you have a recomendation for a different servo? Thanks for the great review-

Really cool after getting my gen 8 working how i wanted it would like to get the gen 9 but parts support is none existing/awful which is a massive let down in the uk
Try traxxas and axial . Both lots fun and parts support and after market parts. Traxxas trx4 strong truck 2speed and lock and unlock diffs you drive fast or crawl.
Very nice review like only you can do , thank you. Liked. Very happy with my Gen8 V2. Not a fan of those tiny servos for shifting had a LOT of issues with Scx10III. Hopefully these won't be the same. Keep up the good work Redcat

$300 isn't low enough? Double that & getcha an antiquated trx4. Add another $200 & get the 10.3. (& I agree 1 million percent on that damn low rider! Only so much a manufacturer is allowed to do!👍)
@@old-rcplane-phart $300 for a redcat is a little steep in my opinion..few dollars more you can have the axial or traxxas. thats a tough price point for redcat to compete in is all im saying..anyway i decided against getting one im gonna get a plane instead i have enough land vehicles..lol
Great review video as usual. Subtle cues, LOL. I look forward to seeing the 1080 in there with a brushless motor, which you've probably done already, I'd guess. It'd be interesting to see if you can stick this body on an Axial, or use the tabs & hooks on another body. If I was a big RTR manufacturer, I'd be negotiating the heck out of a tire deal with a well-known smaller tire company. If anyone released an RTR with great tires, everybody would buy it, just to reward the effort.
I fully appreciate that Redcat goes with classic vehicle bodies. The longer into the video the more I like it. Looks like a great crawler, not too complicated or anything. That counts a lot for me. I hope Redcat comes back to Europe. We need more variation 😄
Hello I really like your review I thought that was Michael J. Fox driving can you please tell me what figure that is and what brand It also what the passenger figure is. Thank you very much keep up the good work
Gen 8 has more elegant and scale lines. The fenders on the gen 8 though are not happening. We'll maybe skinny up these doors to make it look more realistic.
@@RCReviewChannelYeah I don't see them adding fenders since the 1:1 didn't have them. I also just looked at pictures of the actual 800A and it looks much better. I think something is wrong with the proportions. Edit: Actually, the Scout II didn't have fenders either
Update I revisited this video for a second time I had been thinking of getting the 9 & now is the time it’s currently on sale for 369$ & eying that Traxxas has fired people up to support the community & I’m ready to spend!
My real scout was the same color pretty much..4 wheel disc brakes..teralow 3.7 tcase..4.27 gears with factory limited slip differentials..full cage..rhinolined interior..4 speed with granny low..it was amazing!
How would you say this Gen9 stacks up against the Gen8 Axe? I bought my Gen8 Axe, after seeing your videos on that truck, and it was definitely a worthwhile purchase. It doesn't crawl better than my TRX4, and I haven't run them side by side in the mud, to have an idea in those conditions. But, it is faster, by far, more powerful over all, and just a lot more livelier, by a lot as well. My TRX4 struggles to right itself when up on it's side, the Gen8 Axe spins right up with little effort. I think the Gen8 Axe's biggest issue is the weight of the body, this thing is really heavy, which really impacts the crawling performance, but I enjoy the Gen8 Axe, a lot, and it is my wife's favorite RC, she has a blast with it.
This thing has better steering for sure. and better sliders and approach angles. I think this will perform better with a few front brass and a new 1080 G2 esc.
@@RCReviewChannel I will very much look forward to your future videos on this truck. Do you like the 1080 G2, over, perhaps, a Fusion Pro? There is a lot to like about the new Gen 9, for sure, and I know the team at RC Review will find the best way to get the most out of it! Happy New Year guys, and thank you for what you do!
Nice rig 👍 The skidplate seems not too bad. All in all, not that much more upgrades needed than with any other RC crawlers out there (with the exception of Vanquish maybe...).
It would be nice if you can focus more on the different parts of the vehicle (close up) rather than shooting it in wide angle, i want to see what new features redcat can offer.
Body looks ok until you cop a side view then it just looks really odd, grill and lights look a bit cheap and tacked on also, a good well designed rc body should look good from all angles like the Gen8/Axe, trx4 Blazer, Bronco etc, great review though 👍
Just purchased my Gen9 - Having Major Lori elms with the two - step transmission Servo - switching gears it’s real rough and the servo went out so I replaced it with a 12kg micro servo- also went out idk what else to do with this is a HUGE LET DOWN BECAUE EI PURCHASED THIS CRAWLER BASED OFF THIS VIDOE REVIEW
Nice truck but for me I think RGT has surpassed Redcat, I have 6 Redcat crawlers, but I feel they've lost there edge, I used to be a big fan, the RGT pro trucks are dynamite. I feel Traxxas and Axiel are king because when they build a platform like trx4 and then they support them best with bodies and after market products, just my opinion 🙏✝️☮️
Redcat nice lookin truck and crawl great. Dont break and forget all about after market parts at hobby shop. I see often how redcat has let down my friend. I always bring an extra truck for my friend.
@@RCReviewChannel please forgive me to speak truth. nothing but respect for you and your you tube site. You inspired me to obtain trucks and start a new hobby after all of our onroad and off road tracks closed in north il. All tracks now 2 hour drive. Redcat makes a great truck. I have seen my friend get shut down many times on our one day off from work to go crawling because his redcat truck breaks and he cant get parts. I am forced to fabricate a working part from other company to fix his truck. I bring extra truck for him .
@@allmightygreat1892 interesting my gen 8 has always been reliable. Honestly when things break it's usually to driver error. Curious what is he having problems with specifically?
@@isaiah9313 wheels. Cross brace . Servo mounting. The list goes on . A trip to lhs to order parts and wait and wait. Then drive back to store to get part.
@@allmightygreat1892 Sorry to here, I did a few upgrades stretching the wheelbase slightly and shock position along with a 35t motor. Also wheels to white steelies right out of the box with hyraxes. I never experienced those things and I've crashed it into steps (by accident I was going full speed and looked away for a second) and it's taken some hard beating I even cracked one of the fenders.
"The drivetrain sounds rough." Tell me you haven't observed the depth of their gearing's mesh without telling me you haven't observed the depth of their gearmesh. Traxxas and Axial are about half the depth of gearing all around, I've got all em', worked on em' extensively. Gen8's plastic gears are the only ones that held up in the longrun, eventually all Axial and Traxxas stock gearing will be chewed on 3S.
Hey pare how's the steering radius or angle on this new Gen 9 compared to the Gen 8 Axe that I have? Has it improved? My TRX-4 Defender is still the king of short turning radius with all diffs unlocked. Thanks man let me know.
Dammit Terry! I was trying to get out of the hobby, but your insightful reviews keep pulling me back in! Lol I’m in for one when they’re available 😂 if you keep up the great work sir, I’ll keep buying new rigs. Can’t wait to see the value compared to Axial and Traxxas… I think I can use that extra $100 difference on upgrades on the GEN9 to make it “better to me” than it’s competitors for the same $$$? Let’s Try It!
Thank you for the great review as always. I would have liked to have seen more details in the front u joint steering axles and more details in the two speed transmission. Maybe in another review?
My trx4 has 300 plus hours of hard drive time. I am not a traxxas employee. Axials are nice they all drive different. Axial traxxas have been a wonderful experience.
Bro Traxxas is paying you? Or do you just really really hate redcat? You got like 15 different comments on this one video bashing redcat products. Overall I agree that Traxxas and axial have better support and quality. But no one goes that far out of their way to comment on it over, and over.... And over unless they get something out of it lmao. Chill bro, they're just toys at the end of the day
Lol 😆 I have lots hours on my gen8 and I'm more of basher . I went to buy trx but it was a time Traxxas was trying put alot of companies I do own out of business.
@@paulclancy2404 Yeah sadly Traxxas is like that. I still buy their stuff though because a lot of it does tend to be very high quality. I like to be rough on a lot of my vehicles, and the trx4 seems perfect for handling the abuse.
The Gen 9 looks similar to the Axial Deadbolt, except the Gen 9 is more money. What are you getting more with the Gen 9 over the Deadbolt and is it worth the extra cost?
@@old-rcplane-phart Outside of 2 speed, I’m not sure what all that other stuff means. I’m a noob, don’t own any crawlers yet, these are the two I’m looking at. I like the body style / looks.
And all trucks break... even $500+ trucks... that "idea" is pointless... you still spend less for a truck that performs just as good if not better... And have money left over.
@@allmightygreat1892 yea - thats why everyone pays more - they want it "now" and have zero patience for shipped parts then get mad like its the brands fault. After market parts for the axial and traxxas has been a fun experience. As kevin would say. The rc truck that gives you a big smile is the truck for you. Axial and traxxas im smiling all day driving it. I had a good one Drove my traxxas on road at full speed into a parked semi truck. laughed and went to hobby shop to get parts.

I fully appreciate that Redcat goes with classic vehicle bodies. The longer into the video the more I like it. Looks like a great crawler, not too complicated or anything. That counts a lot for me. I hope Redcat comes back to Europe. We need more variation 😄
That body really does look excellent! I might get one.
Hello I really like your review I thought that was Michael J. Fox driving can you please tell me what figure that is and what brand It also what the passenger figure is. Thank you very much keep up the good work
OH snaps! Already got the video up! NICE!
Boom!
I just picked up the silver one today.
Looks awesome just wish it came with removable top over the two speed
Best crawler from Redcat! Licensed body, portals, 2 speed for $400! Wow!
& 100's less than anything else 👍🤷♂️
I kinda like the body of the Gen8 more than this one. I will say, the way the body is mounted and able to be taken off is amazing.
I love my Gen 8, but the only thing it lacks for me is a 2 speed transmission. Hoping there is a way to retro fit the Gen 9 trans to a Gen 8.
A 2 speed kit will be available soon. The new axles have a lot more steering and durability on the Gen9 though.
I enjoy your videos, information and energy. I would really like a hardtop though!
Thank you for that.
Those boom racing wheels are killer on it
Pardon if I missed it, but will this 2 speed transmission mount into a gen 8 v2 chassis?
There's a Gen8 specific kit coming out for the 2 speed.
MUST HAVE!!
Order now!!!
How does it compare to the Vanquish phoenix with portals
We'll have a shootout soon.
Those are replicas of Interco TrXuS tires. Pretty cool. Be neat if Inteco offered Boggers or TSL tires.
Update I revisited this video for a second time I had been thinking of getting the 9 & now is the time it’s currently on sale for 369$ & eying that Traxxas has fired people up to support the community & I’m ready to spend!
Really hoping some of the scale accessories are made available to add to the Gen 8
true dat!
Cool body I want one for my Element!..I built that truck in real life years ago..pretty much looks exactly like my rig!
That would be cool!
Oh my gosh that’s AWESOME! 🔥 I love it! 👀 How cool! 👍😀👍 Great video! 🍻
I still love my gen 8
bet youre loving the water
Nice rig 👍 The skidplate seems not too bad. All in all, not that much more upgrades needed than with any other RC crawlers out there (with the exception of Vanquish maybe...).
Treal is gonna have a whole line of brass to balance out the CG of the scale rig.
Did they forget to turn the "cartoon" filter slider down when designing the body?
Beats another jeep body by all means 🤷♂️
@@old-rcplane-phart good point!
Can You drive gen 9 whit bronco body ?
Seems pretty decent for the price.
Redcat nice lookin truck and crawl great. Dont break and forget all about after market parts at hobby shop. I see often how redcat has let down my friend. I always bring an extra truck for my friend.
Very true!
For $400 they couldnt include a decent tire?
"The drivetrain sounds rough."
Tell me you haven't observed the depth of their gearing's mesh without telling me you haven't observed the depth of their gearmesh.
Traxxas and Axial are about half the depth of gearing all around, I've got all em', worked on em' extensively.
Gen8's plastic gears are the only ones that held up in the longrun, eventually all Axial and Traxxas stock gearing will be chewed on 3S.
All of a sudden my feed is full of the GEN9 lol but I like it an I want it
Look great.. Quality
Those wheels and tires look perfect!!
Was wondering when they where gonna release a new crawler
Finally! And it's a big effort.
Just got mine from my local hobby shop for 359
Thank you for the great review as always.
@@LogainTheHumane sorry got a free hour . Really just want to educate newbies. No not traxxas employee.
@@LogainTheHumane good comment.
Portal axles, no bump steer, 2 speed, lower CG, yada yada yada.
Pull up ur deadbolt specs, then pull up the gen9 specs. It's called 'research'.
@@old-rcplane-phart Outside of 2 speed, I’m not sure what all that other stuff means. I’m a noob, don’t own any crawlers yet, these are the two I’m looking at. I like the body style / looks.
I knew it!
i like it
Is that Marty and Biff?! 🤣
340 was a good price if truck never breaks.
And all trucks break... even $500+ trucks... that "idea" is pointless... you still spend less for a truck that performs just as good if not better... And have money left over.
yup, got mine for 250
250 good price to enter hobby. At 400 its now close to axial and traxxas. To be able to obtain parts within minutes at lhs has made this a fun hobby.
@@allmightygreat1892 yea - thats why everyone pays more - they want it "now" and have zero patience for shipped parts then get mad like its the brands fault. Again - that's not Redcats fault blame the LHS for not pushing to carry the less expensive brand... And NOTHING of this quality on the market is less than $300 these days. This is a quality truck just like the Gen8 and the value speaks for itself. Expecting it to "out perform" anything else and still cost less make no sense.. "WE want the BEST price - and it better not break" ... SURE thing guy hahaha
After market parts for the axial and traxxas has been a fun experience. As kevin would say. The rc truck that gives you a big smile is the truck for you. Axial and traxxas im smiling all day driving it. I had a good one
Drove my traxxas on road at full speed into a parked semi truck. laughed and went to hobby shop to get parts.
I love the looks but those shocks just seem to ruin it for me
Hmm, your product review, not so great. Voice over lapping, you didn't cover the stock rc new features and new capabilities.
Sorry to disappoint you there. What exactly are the new features and capabilities you are referring to? Very curious to hear your list.
Sorry, I didn't watch the whole video at the beginning because the coverage you did are insufficient visually (so I just scan it), I didn't get you at the beginning because you didn't do any close up shot of the rc parts , that you are talking about, the rc is too far to see, 🙈 . And you just describing something you assume everyone knows, close up video will be helpful. That's all.
Looks decent as far as Redcat goes.
Once Bitten twice Shy; Had a redcat clawback axels broke and was never able to get replacements.
So I steer away from any Redcat Products; even though they look nice.
But looks are not all that needs to be when it comes to RC vehicles part support is very necessary.
Good luck with that truck
Good comment thank you
Body shape is wrong, but cool to see an attempt at a scout body.
