My Computer Confession

- Welcome to another episode of Hey! What's Next? I have a confession--I own too many computers. While most people have one computer to do many things, I have a lot of computers that each have their specific tasks.
In this episode, I will review the Evolve 3 Maestro laptop I purchased from Micro Center for $80 about a year ago. A year later, Micro Center has this unit back in stock AND for the same price.
While I look at the laptop, I will also replace the 4G LTE card with an SSD drive, show off a bit of Linux Mint, install the wireless driver after an OS update, and run a sysbench test.
Thank you for watching! I'd appreciate a LIKE, and if you so choose, maybe SUBSCRIBE to my channel.
PERSONAL NOTE:
I need to apologize for the video quality. I shot this with an old camera and the video's clarity is a bit low for my taste.

Don’t we all have computer problems… I put Mint on a black 2007 MacBook that I bought for $12 then realized the battery that was missing was $35 and dropped in a $25 SSD. Not my finest investment as it’s mostly just a thing I have now for some reason.
Thanks for watching. Hope you had some fun with that MacBook.
I had to do something similar for my GMKtec NUC box Mini!
1TB 2280 NVMe SSD-16 gigs of ram
Currently running Grub dual boot- Win11pro and Xubuntu 22.04 LTS
Nice video! 😃
Thanks for the compliment. You have a nice setup; love these mini PCs.
That loose antenna connection really needs some Kapton tape asap before it shorts something out and destroys the computer...
Thanks for the comment and feedback. Honestly, I should know better. I plan to open the laptop again and fix the issue.
That loose WiFi antenna on the mobo is going to short something
Thanks for the info. I’ll get that fixed.
There's no path to ground on the antenna, or you would already have had problems. You could just tape the end to avoid the potential short, or just snip it off - it's not like it would ever be worth paying for LTE for it anyway.
Having to reinstall the wifi drivers is a little lame but its a cool laptop
Thanks for watching. Totally agree on the driver issue, but it forces me to use the terminal and Linux, which is not something I like to do.
I'm old fashion, how does it connect to wifi without a wifi card?
Thanks for watching. The card I removed was for 4G LTE, not WiFi. Once I install the Linux drivers, the separate WiFi card can be used. Also, I have an Ethernet to USB adapter to connect to the Internet. Hope this answers your question.
@@heywhatisnext I keep forgetting some of these connected to cellular networks.
can it use for emulation like pcsx2
Thanks for watching. While I have tried game system emulation, I’m sure you could do entry level gaming, but only the basic stuff. I think PS2 emulation is a bit much for this laptop.
@@heywhatisnext i know i suggested it out of curiosity
128 MB?
My son mentioned it as well. 128 GB is what I should have said. Oops.
When I heard the word Linux it was an instand dislike.
So what? You expect Windows to run nearly as smoothly as Linux on this weak hardware? Linux is the way to go on these glorified calculators
Yeah, Linux isn’t for everyone but it’s out there. This little laptop definitely runs better without Windows 10. I’d love to show that but I wiped the disk before backing it up; my bad.
