- Thats right, i am not going down quietly. I am Rebutting Mike on what happened to his Evolve III and i will give you my Finally Thoughts on the Evolve III laptop.

I learned the hard way that the Evolve III doesn't have reverse polarity protection on its power input. I was meaning to put power poles on the pigtail that I made to battery-charge it 12VDC to 12VDC, but I never got around to it. Hooked up the wires backwards one night and POOF - I let the smoke out. In my defense, alcohol was involved.
I get that WiFi Bluetooth dropout occasionally. I just reboot it and it comes back.
The WiFi dropout to my iPhone is crazy frustrating while doing a POTA activation!
I agree. I had the same problem. I regret buying the Evolve III
laptop.
Thanks for the shoutout Frank. Mine did the same thing. I did not try the bluetooth but since I know they are on the same chip, I am sure mine was out as well. I have 4 of them including 2 on Linux. The Linux driver is not built into the kernel but I found a driver via the Evolve forums that could be built into the kernel and it works fine.

My evolve was a little messed up after my cruise to alaska because it got wet during the activation. Once it dried for a few days, it was ok.

The only issue with the Evolve is the OS that comes pre loaded. Load a good OS and problem solved. 😃👍
If the can find the obscure drivers fit it
I dug my Evolve III laptop out of my go box this week to install a code plug on a friend's DMR radio. It was booting very slowly. Task Manager said it was getting excessive "system interrupts". After a reboot, it was cruising more normally. I applied the latest M$ updates. It was running very slowly on the next reboot. Another forced reboot got it back to normal speed. I will probably convert it to Linux and see how it goes...

I e had the trackpad go bye bye. I’ve also lost WiFi and Bluetooth. If I plug in my GPS, WiFi goes gone. That laptop is nice for the charging capabilities, but it has some severe issues.
Were both of these machines "optimized"? I've seen the video by HRCC about doing this, but haven't done it yet. If these were, I won't be doing the debloat.

Congrats, Welcome to the Greatest Hobby of Hobbies. FIRST off, don't be like MIKE using the apples. They are hard to get confiured to work with your radio. I don't have a good answer at this time. KEEP watching i will post when i find that answers
Sounds like a windows update problem to me. They has some special drivers that were replaced by generic Windows drivers.

For simple programs, email, WinLink, the III is great But it you demand too much memory, it is slow

The only thing I have issue with mine is the space bar does not always work. I do not run to much on mine. No Winlink or anything like that. Mainly e-mail and I watch You Tube on it. That's it in a nutshell
Did you reboot it? It might just be me, but I never have any issues with Windows. 🌮🌮🌮
There were many of reboots when they were trying to troubleshoot it. The drivers never came back
Frank will always be blamed. Facts have nothing to do with it. 😂 A story that'll live longer than the Evolve.
Well Microsoft just did an update on my Larkbox mini pc and it's been rebooting, error, installing, rebooting, uninstalling, error, etc. 😡Is this why Mike loves Apple?
I have seen the same issue with Mac updates
@Tank Radio, leaving Windows to update automatically is a rookie move.
Normally I would agree, however in the Evloves case. Turn them off. It's just going to slow down the computer
best to stay from Evolve III laptop. no support. could be a windows up date thing. just check up date log. some times you can un install a update . if the drivers can be easy gotten would have that laptop back up the same day . sometimes you get a crappy laptop . 73's
Man, I don’t know what to do… I have the Evolve have windows and I have tons of Mac and Apple OS. Can I really survive ham radio exclusively Mac?
You were just helping him save power who needs the sound card or WiFi? Just power hungry devices anyway.

you were not respond if it window to me it sound like safeguard in the update if you don’t click public or private network it uninstalled driver because it think be hacked
I had one die due to a direct lightning strike to my antenna. Got 2 more. Its WINDOWS! It SUCKS!!!! Let’s all blame crappy windows!!!!!! Mac/Apple for the win!!!
But the III can charge up on 12 volts DC!
