Steve buddy! Thanks for all of your support mate. This antenna has been a crazy fun project, and I can't wait to build on it. You're the best! Take care my friend.
Thanks so much Alvaro - I'm blown away with the performance of this antenna. Stealth, portable, and versatile. I couldn't believe I could tune it for 80 meters hahaha. Cheers my friend.
Woohooo that's awesome. I just bought another roll of Metal Tape for under $10CAD and that's a whopping 50 meters! Oh - I also bought a really cheap 16x20 tarp for under $25CAD woohooo. Cheers buddy - thanks for swinging by and leaving a comment. Much appreciated.
Muddy mate, oh you know more are coming buddy! Wooohooo. Safe travels out there buddy, and hope to hear ya on the air later on today. Cheers and beers my friend
As always, incredibly inspiring, informative and entertaining..Absolutely superb presentation boys...and Simon...you manage to hide your excitement so well😂😂..Looking forward to the next one..best 73..John..G4EIJ..
G'day John, thanks so much for your kind words mate. It is hard to hold back the excitement, especially when you build something and it works so well. It just feels so rewarding and exciting. Then of course, that leads you down that 'rabbit hole'.... 'hmmm what's the next tarptenna I can build" hahaha. Thanks for all of your support buddy. Cheers John
It was nice meeting you at Collins look out point in Dean park. I enjoyed our conversation about ham, vlf radio and everything you do, it was fun. Thank you for that.
Hey there Dave, it was great to meet you up there mate. Let me know if Doug and I can help ya get your ham radio licence mate. I know you'd love it. Cheers mate, and thanks for dropping by.
G'day Mark buddy. An antenna like this would be awesome in your part of the world for the crappy weather months buddy. Hide under it, key up and stay warm hahaha. Wooohooo! Thanks for all of your support my friend. Cheers mate
hahaha me too mate. YES it is a compromise at that height, but it works hahaha. So ya higher would definitely work better and I think at the height I have it at, it is more NVIS than DX. Fun stuff. Cheers buddy thanks for watching
I thought the tarp antenna would be a NVIS antenna, but it certainly isn't. Would it be something to do with it being a loop? Love your dogs. I am a dog lover to. My dog Jack (see my thumbnail) is a miniature Jack Russell terrier. He is only the size of a small cat. Congratulations on the antenna, works really well. Best wishes to you and your second operator. David M0DUU
G'day David, our little brown guy is a rescue dog from Tijuana. I think he's part Jack Russell hence that protruding pretty face that jacks have. The antenna is mind blowing mate. I thought exactly the same.... I think it is definitely a combination of NVIS as well as DX. Certainly has blown my mind as far as performance goes. Cheers mate and thanks for watching.
G’day Jack thanks for your comment buddy. Yes they are metal and conductive and that’s why I placed the tape on the inside of the corner poles to prevent rf loss to ground through the poles. It’s a fabulously fun antenna buddy. I’m working on variations as we speak. Cheers Jack!
Hey buddy, I've had no problems getting this at 50 ohms. Ideally, I would like to have more tape on the actual tarp and shorter feed point leads. You should try it mate, it really is more 'forgiving' than I thought to be honest. The beauty of the metal tape, is you can always 'add' by folding it on itself and adding more if need be. Just get your voltmeter to test both feed points to insure it is electrically conductive and you're golden. Happy building my friend. Cheers
Definitely can't argue with the results. What an interesting concept.
Hey buddy, that's exactly my thoughts as well. IT WORKS! Crazy ain't it? Thanks for dropping by. Cheers
Woo hoo!
Steve buddy! Thanks for all of your support mate. This antenna has been a crazy fun project, and I can't wait to build on it. You're the best! Take care my friend.
Another terrific job Wow fantastic 73 from kb2uew
Thanks so much Alvaro - I'm blown away with the performance of this antenna. Stealth, portable, and versatile. I couldn't believe I could tune it for 80 meters hahaha. Cheers my friend.
You new Albert Stein
Keep this up, and there's going to be a run on tarps and metal tape.

Hi Simon. Experimenting. That's what radio amateurs are supposed to do. 👍👍🇨🇦
The videos just keep getting better. Two cameras and co stars, big time production! Keep them coming ❤
Muddy mate, oh you know more are coming buddy! Wooohooo. Safe travels out there buddy, and hope to hear ya on the air later on today. Cheers and beers my friend
Simon, Don't want to put you down, but you could use a bit of wet string with 100W, and make contacts! But try it with 5W, and see how you go...
Bruce, I challenge you to use a wet string and make a video about it. For the shock factor do it with 5 w.
Always a great time. Just take it easy on Doug !! lol VE1SK
Hahaha, yeah I gave him my puffy the other day - he was getting a bit cold. What a blast. Thanks for all of the great fun Steve buddy.
GRREAT ! 73
Thanks mate!
That. Is. Cool.
Thanks buddy - it works an absolute treat!

G'day Mike, get your tarp rocking buddy, so we can do a "Tarp to Tarp" contact! Woohooo. Cheers buddy and thanks for swinging by

Doug seems like a chill dude 😅😂 cool antenna !
Doug is the greatest. A super smart and funny guy. We both share the same passions of ham radio and we're both jazz musicians. Cheers mate

G'day Mark buddy. An antenna like this would be awesome in your part of the world for the crappy weather months buddy. Hide under it, key up and stay warm hahaha. Wooohooo! Thanks for all of your support my friend. Cheers mate
That thing is like 3-4 meters in the air!!
I thought loops needed to like super high
hahaha me too mate. YES it is a compromise at that height, but it works hahaha. So ya higher would definitely work better and I think at the height I have it at, it is more NVIS than DX. Fun stuff. Cheers buddy thanks for watching
As the Beatles told us, "There's nothing you can do that can't be done." I still say a tarp antenna is impossible, but we had a QSO, so ...
I thought the tarp antenna would be a NVIS antenna, but it certainly isn't. Would it be something to do with it being a loop?

Simon - great activation! Question on the tarp poles. Are they metal or fiberglass - basically are they conductive?

G’day Jack thanks for your comment buddy. Yes they are metal and conductive and that’s why I placed the tape on the inside of the corner poles to prevent rf loss to ground through the poles. It’s a fabulously fun antenna buddy. I’m working on variations as we speak. Cheers Jack!
How are you getting 50 ohms, I thought loops present 100ohms?
Awesome antenna would live to build one myself.
Thanks for the great video!

Awesome. Thanks for your reply. Do you have build instructions somewhere out you antennas?
What was the rig and power?? Impressed with the antenna and video. Thanks!! 73 De NØPL Dit-Dit
G'day Paul, the power out was 100W and the radio is the Icom 7300. The tuner at the feedpoint is the ATU-100. Thanks for watching buddy. Cheers!
Simon pharaday cloth if I have spelt it ok
Nothing proves it’s working like a pileup 😆👍!
Amen to that Dan, and not only on the 'resonant' full look band, but all bands. Crazy fun project. Cheers mate and thanks for dropping by.
The Mad Scientist Award 2024 goes to VA7BIX...wohooo. Dude ,you just rock 💯🎸🎙🎵🎧🤘
