Was great having you again at goKit Challenge 2024!! That big geek box and bluetooth box were great but the radio tuning that tiny antenna was great fun!!
I put together a small HF kit with a (tr)uSDX very similar to the one here. I'm going camping soon and planning to take my 817 go bag for a little foot borne adventure in addition to my 7300 for the campsit. Going to bring the (tr)uSDX instead!
Congrats on the win, great video as always. Your first go kit challenge video inspired me to make my own VHF/UHF go kit last year. I recently upgraded to general so I'm looking forward to making an HF go kit next thanks again for the inspiration.
I much prefer the way you (and I) do it. Smaller separate kits for UHF/VHF radio and HF Radio. My HF kit sports a G-90, but I also have a well fited pack with my Yaesu FT-891 should I want the extra DB's. The combo kits with everything in them get so big and heavy that they really are not easily portable. The big kits have a "Kool" factor, but in real life, can be too much in many situations. Separate kits are so much easier to move and trouble shoot. Add a battery box and you are all set. Boys and their toys....lol. The neat thing about ham radio is that you make it yours, whatever that looks like.
@@glensaamanen720 It's just a quality back pack that the radio fits in well and is padded. Not a operating type pack. Easy to remove and set up anywhere I might need to. It takes so little time to hook up a radio. I don't see the need for the weight and bulk of a a all in one go kit. Other people love them. It's radio, do what works for you and makes you happy.
one of the top brands I go with the best LOL :) Love it. Also that guy with the Milwaukee setup needs a deep dive video of how he put all that together. Any chance he has his own channel?
Awesome video Mike. I got my license to learn and practice emergency communications. I feel that I'm setup well now but some of these guys are making me rethink my setup.
To be fair, out of everything out there that you showed, your boxes seemed to be the more functional/usable. I see a lot of go boxes which aren't meant to be used. It's just "here I'll put all my stuff in a box" yeah but it's heavy, clunky, uses tons of power, what is it for? :D Anyway, congrats! Thanks for the video!
My wife and I are new to Ham Radio. We recently bought two HF radios (a Yaesu FTDX10 and a Xiegu G90) and required gear. We will use the radios at home as base stations, as well as at field days and at monthly POTA activations and car camping trips. For the portable applications, we want to be able to safely transport our radio gear from home to the locations. We are considering two alternative case strategies and want your opinion/recommendation: Alternative 1: Store the radios and gear in Harbor Freight 4800 and 5800 Apache cases during transportation, and we will pull them out of the cases and put them on a picnic table or truck tailgate when at POTA or camping location, and on a desk when at home. Alternative 2: Mount them in 4U or 6U Gator Cases and put the whole case on the picnic table, tailgate, or desk and leave them in the gator case during use. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Kc1LWT here. So I’ve seen tons of go kits or boxes. But haven’t come across a ham radio styled “signal core radio” like the military uses on the battle field. A backpack with an antenna sticking off the top and a microphone. That would be something I’d like to build for 2m/440
My go box: One motorcycle lead acid + battery tender charger. One IC-703 QRP HF Radio. One IC-2370 Analog 2/440 50 watt, one mag mount 2/440 antenna, and one Chameleon 80-10 loop antenna. Plus, a ID-50 radio with the stock battery and the big battery. I can squeeze that all into one bag and one small box.
@kd5you1 how did you mount the radios securely inside the box? I got myself a box and I'm struggling with how to mount my g90, as their aren't a lot of mounts out there for it
That packout set up is amazing. Someone should make an in depth video about that set up
Take a look at my setup.
@@KF7QGY where do I find it? Couldn't find a RUclips channel under your name
I need to do one just not much on vide editing etc
That stack of Milwaukees is amazing!
The Milwaukee box go kit gets my vote.

Always inspiring to see how people build their "go kits". I keep changing my mind of what I want to do!
Congratulations Mike! You deserve it!! Great video too, especially showing Cliff and Paul's setup!
Love that packout setup!

Looks like a really fun event. Wonder if there is a similar one in the PNW. Like that G90 Go box.. video for it? Ill search your list Thanks
I got a whole playlist of stuff on the G90 including a few on the go box. ruclips.net/p/PLvjQnyd_Fwbo0QfCA_1sQAvQFyLxQu-IP
@@hamradiotube Found it thanks man .. that build was cool
Would love one of these in the pnw!
Congrats Mike. Great video as always. Watch many of yours and got a lot of great info. Just bought an ATAS120 and a Yeasu FT 891. POTA time.

What pack do you use for the 891?

The G90 tuning a signal stick for FT8 is downright hilarious. Is there anything that tuner cant do?
I don't think so. It's amazing what that tuner will do.
I have learned a lot from and enjoy your videos. Thanks!

All those "go" kits, and not a roll of TP in sight.
I prefer a bidet. I do keep a roll of TP in the trunk of my car though. Better to have it and not need it.
@@hamradiotube ah, a fellow bidet enjoyer, I see
Congratulations Mike!!!!!
That looks like a fun event. I'm a less is more type of guy myself.
Cool toys! Congrats!
I like that callsign tag on the Big Geek ;)
So cool. Congrats too!
Congrats again! Great video, was a blast as always!
Congratulations!!
Some of these “go boxes” might need several people to carry everything!😅
Good evening everyone from Alabama
Congratulations
What battery are you using in the Ammocan with the radio??
The speaker box? I have a 6ah bioenno.
This is my kinda ham event!
I should bring my pack when I'm done

Any plans to sell your vhf/uhf kit ? (minus radio)
Lol no. That thing was a pain to make.
@@hamradiotube darn! LOL
Hey Mike, is the website down? I wasn’t able to connect.
Never mind, I can connect now.
I keep coming back to that Milwaukee Packout, and I'm half-tempted to do something similar
I was thinking the same thing except to just carry coax, antennas etc. since I already have a Gator box go kit.

K8MRD is now “Lord of the Go Kit” 👍
LOL - "I can't use my words"
Some of these boxes should have caster wheels attached, just to move around.
Also attach a brace of oxen to haul it around.

Any build info for the KO5OPP Milwaukee Go Kit?
I can't believe you won it, MIke, without an APRS setup! Lolz! Kidding aside what is your uhf/vhf rig?

That ain't no go kit, that's a slow-kit. Wheel that down the street and see how long it takes you to walk 1mi. 🤣
Fun!
Is it still considered a "go-kit" if you need a dolly to move it?
It looks like the guy with the Milwaukee Packout set tried to copy mine and missed. I built mine years ago. I’m already way over due for upgrades.
I have never seen yours. Care to share?
I feel so lowly my go kit consists of a uv-5r😢
FYI: I tried your Gigaparts code and it say it is not a valid code.
That looks like a lot of fun! Keep up the good work, 73 K9ZF
