I would love to paint abstracts but I think I agree that I want it to represent or be similar to a real object. I love your paintings so much because you paint real things in an abstract way. Goals! Thank you for sharing!

I enjoy painting abstract and you are right: people think it’s easy and it is not! So kudos! You have a contemplative process that inspires me! I too find people want to see something recognizable in art. I however am so moved by certain abstract paintings that are color and composition focused with nothing resembling the real world! There are so many inspiring abstract artists, at this moment, Doreen McNeill comes to mind! You know, color combinations that make you lighter and catch your breath, your heart flutters! I hope everyone feels this when looking at wonderful abstract art!! Thank you so for your wonderful art and videos of your incredible, inspiring life!

I totally agree with you about the difficulty to produce abstract art. We are confronted with so many possibilities to create an abstract picture that it can be overwhelming. My way out of this dilemma is - at the moment - to paint on a very large paper and then with a passe-partout detect the interesting sections of the image. I remember that you already have used this process. The wellknown German painter Gerhard Richter applied this procedure in his watercolor paintings.

    • @gaynorpattle
      @gaynorpattle  9 месяцев назад

Hi Gaynor, it’s Jess from Dorset here. I completely resonate with your to and fro with abstract art, I too find that I like switching between abstract and something more representational. I definitely find abstract the most challenging but equally the most compelling! When painting abstract, I find that if I stick with a colour palette I am comfortable with (blues for me at the moment) then it is easier to experiment with composition etc as I’m not put off by colours I don’t like! When I’m more practised with these other elements I then experiment a bit more with colours. Thanks so much for all the videos you produce, I so enjoy watching your art journey, very inspiring. Jess

Gaynor, sitting here with a medicinal glass of red whilst the food cooks. I’ve been struggling with abstract for along time - it is the hardest thing! So much easier to make a sketch or painting that looks like the subject in front of you .The little brain is always fighting to make it look like something or it can look an overcrowded mess.
How do you find so much inspiration?

BOOM! And off she goes at full speed and I love it. So much energy and all so soon it’s over. I’m loving working on several pieces at once it is so freeing. If I could make one suggestion, and that is to show us you painting in real time for a few minutes and not sped up. It would be great to see your application and it would stretch the video out for us Gaynor fans. Another fab vlog your ideas are so amazing. 👍

Loving watching a fellow artist. I do abstracts and maybe on your one with the half circles, perhaps make them significantly different sizes? When I do abstracts and I make my shapes all about the same size I struggle, but when I make them different sizes, one smaller one significantly bigger I like it better. Another thing I add in mine is very thin line work with a very thin brush with black instead of the ink that makes straight lines maybe use a thin brush so you can make more whimsical lines or unrecognizable writing? Do you like numbers in that one painting maybe do some spray paint numbering through a stencil I do mine backwards. Anyway, just throwing out some ideas as I’m watching you and thinking I’d love to be in your studio with you collaborating back-and-forth because it would be fun, but I’m in the US so I just have to watch from a far

Another fabulous video Gaynor, thank you so much.
I’m interested in abstract and other styles of art and I agree with you, abstract is the hardest to achieve.
I’m no expert but my personal observation after my first few attempts and watching other artists, was where to start? I know a lot of abstract artists lay under paintings to get rid of the blank space.
At the mo I’m watching a few abstract artists to learn more about it. You probably have your favs but I enjoy Painted Paper studio with Jackie Bernardi (she is a gel plate printer and abstract collage artist), Jeannine Close and Shawn Petite, all here on RUclips.
I wonder, do we use a different part of our brain with abstract? When we paint, sketch, draw scenes or objects etc we have a subject but what is the subject of abstract? Is there one? Is it more emotive? I shall watch the Matthew Collins doc, thank you for the recommendation.
Whatever it is, the creative journey is so exciting and fun and as ever, you bring that and more to your work and inspirational and wonderful videos.
    Have a magical week 🙏🏻🤗🙏🏻

    Morning Lovely Gaynor 🌸
Oh Gosh! Here I go again 😄 Well…. I absolutely Loved ❤️ what you did with your initial white bold shapes…..thought it was GENIUS and completely PERFECT as it was…just AMAZING! Loved all the shapes ESPECIALLY the one you got rid of 😱 and the background was fantastic as it was 😱 Love Love Love. Then you changed it and I felt it lost some of the Gaynor Amazing magic. 😭 I know you love to continue to work on your Art piece because you enjoy it so much.
It really doesn’t seem to take you long to come up with a fantastic piece of Art, maybe think about when to stop before you get carried away so we don’t miss all these Amazing works! 🙏 😊
Loved your sink idea!! Never in a million years would I have thought of painting my sink on its own 😄 Just love the way your brain works! ❤️❤️❤️

I find non objective abstracts the hardest to paint. For me what helps to do thumb nails of options and to write phrases or words of things I want to explore in my painting. That gives me something to refer back to when I get stuck in the middle stage.

@@gaynorpattle the reason I watch your channel so avidly is that I like your combination of realism and abstract. Purely abstract leaves me puzzled. So with Kadinsky it’s the shapes and colour rather than the message that speaks to me.

I am a semi-abstract person too. I do better making abstracts in my art journal/sketchbook. As soon as I've got a canvas in front of me I want it to have something recognizable on it.

I've decided that one of the reasons I enjoy you so much is the gift you have for turning the ordinary into extraordinary. Case in point: cheese plants, snake plants, allium, crows, A BATHROOM SINK for goodness sake! So while it was good fun watching you wrestle with your abstract, it's okay by me if you want to throw in an aubergine or two onto that canvas. 🍆🍆
