Here's a giggle for you day Denise! Every time I start binging on your videos, I drag out most of my supplies, make some room for me to work in and take inventory of what I have to play along with you. When I come across an item I DON'T have, hubby gets his keys and says "'cmon, let's go...". It's like he knows me and is resigned to the inevitable trip to Michael's or Hobby Lobby... LOL!!! He says I get a gleam in my eyes, I get antsy or twitchy and I even trip over my feet, trying to get to the front door. For 20+ years now, I thought I tried to keep some fun and mystery in our marriage but he has figured me out!!! 😂😂😂 Time for some new tacticts, right? LOL!!! ❤😊❤
Great tutorial on powdered watercolours and best practices. The things i learn with Denise and keep learning lol….thank you for sharing all your goodies. We love you!
Hi Denise! Found your channel last week and I have been having an absolute blast watching all your videos. Thank you so much for the inspiration you bring to art. You've given me the courage to dig out some of my supplies I have been intimidated to use. Cheers from Ontario, Canada!
This is so perfect timing. My 12-year old granddaughter is staying the night, and as we often do when we get together, we pull out the art supplies. We were in full experimental mode with my Neo II's and my Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils. I told her about you and how you got so excited when seeing results you liked. We were doing the same thing. So I pulled up your most recent post and you had the watercolor powders! I had several from some old subscription boxes that I never really knew what to do with. PERFECT timing! We were laughing with delight as we semi followed along. Thank you for helping us to make memories since she love abstract, maybe a new path for her!
I can't tell you how much I love this. I'm so glad you guys painted with me and you are making such awesome memories with your granddaughter. Thank you!!! 🥰
I received my set of color cubes the other day and whoop whoop! Also, I just love pigment powders because when you put them on dry paper and then spray water, it does half the work for you as they splay out. Your videos are just the best and your color selections make me crazy happy 💕💕
Whoo hooo!!! You'll love paying in the Color Cubes!! I am obsessed with playing in the powders.. love watching what the colors do with added water. so cool... Glad you are enjoying the videos!! Thank you 🥰
I’m new to your channel and love the color challenges and all the techniques. I wanted to mention that another way that I have seen the powders used is to mix them with water in a fine tip needle bottle, I used this technique to make gift tags at Christmas. Used Dinkles and Brushos. Then stamped over them with a silhouette tree stamp and used posco white to add snow. It’s a lot of fun to play with these techniques. 😊
Denise, have you ever played with elegant writer pens? The black one? You draw with them and then, when you brush or spray with water, it activates and separates into pink and green. Once activated it will not separate again. It give gorgeous effects in a painting.
I love thèse!!! You should check out pretty gets gritty powders. I can hear your excitement already if you try those! They have separating colours and some with the gold through it. Right up your alley 😊😊
Let the folks know that send you freebies that I am indeed buying 3/4th of what you are demonstrating. I’m kind of a water color hoarder anyway buy I love the way you demonstrate how to use them ie? I’ve always wanted to try powders but for 25 bucks I wasn’t willing to experiment. So thanks for your hard work!
I don't get many freebies. I like to buy everything and then i'm not obligated to like it and I can give you my honest thoughts as I'm painting... 😂 I'm an art supply hoarder too... I want to try everything and have all the colors. I'm glad you enjoy seeing all the things! Thank you! 🥰
Thanks Denise, I have been binge watching your videos for a couple of weeks, your cherry voice and beautiful art reeled me in. I lost my mother on Thursday and have been using paint and paper to calm my mind, thanks for reminding me of pigment powders, I have some Lindy's Magicals that I have not played with in a while. I have already done 3 sets of abstracts along with you and am learning more every video of yours I watch.
Oh my gosh. I did a total belly laugh when you pulled that magnifying glass out, because I have had to do the same. I thought, “Are they trying to hide the name of this color?” ….So, you’re not alone.
Thank you so much Denise. I really really love ❤️ each and every single one of those abstract pieces. The colour’s are so vibrant and beautiful too. And you always seem to get amazing and Stunning result’s too. I really really love ❤️ too when you get excited and it really really makes my heart ❤️ smile too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
You have pulled me out of a crappy mood today. I love art and watching someone who loves art and creating art…well what can I say but sure am glad your channel made its way into my RUclips feed. Art is my medicine and as I watch your process, I had an art inspiration when you mentioned using your favorite marks on your favorite art piece. I don’t have a favorite mark, yet. But then had the thought to make a bunch of marks on punch outs. Each punch out - like your heart prompts - has a different mark that I pull from a bowl/jar to use in my art creations.
Powders are lots of fun! Try putting some cling wrap on them when they are wet and let them fully dry. I know you will enjoy that because you never know what your going to get! Thanks for all your videos!
I absolutely love the powders. I also like to wet my paper then with a paper towel soak up an excess standing water then sprinkle it on then use the spray. It gives me really intense color and the crystals don't move when the water hits them. It's a fun way to use them too. Thanks again for another great video!!
I just ordered the sketch box. It seems like a fun thing to get in the mail. FYI the bougainvillea and a couple other colors are on sale individually on the sketch box site as of today 6/17/23. I think that these abstract paintings will make great journaling cards and tags for my junk journals. Can’t wait to see if I can create something fun too! Thank you!
So I watched this video the other day then spent hours looking at and planning to buy some powders….then today I unpacked another box of art supplies (still unpacking 9 months after my move - don’t judge!🙄) And guess what!!?? I found a package of 11 colors of Infusion paints - WHAT!! WHEN did I buy these? Did a summer Santa elf sneak in and SURPRISE!? Who knows but looks like I have something fun to play with this weekend! BTW - I also found a really nice set of Windsor & Newton water mixable OIL paints (I do remember a friend giving me these right before I moved 😁)..Denise have you ever used these for abstract painting? I’ve never used oil paints 🤷♀️
What?? How excited were you!! That is like finding money in your pocket you thought you lost! LOL! I have some water soluble oils... I do oil and cold wax painting - not straight oil painting.. and for the cold wax mixture - the water soluble oils are weird... so they are not my favorite. 😊
@@2lilowlsstudio I KNOW! Speaking of money - I even found an envelope with $50.00 in a handbag I unpacked - hello art store, lol! This has helped my “unpacking procrastination” for sure! Can I use these oils with cold wax? I haven’t cold wax but….yep, I unpacked some cold wax medium too 🙄🤣!
Would you do a completely stencil free challenge? I love your stencils so much but I'd love to get some inspiration on how to approach this style without needing supplies i might never use again if i don't like it
One thing I love about my Brusho colors is that you can let them dry, and then take a cheap brush, dip it in bleach, and everywhere the bleach touches the color disappears completely. You can finish edges or add detail so easily.
Hi Denise, the powders are pretty awesome. Just wondering if you have ever used "Brusho" powder? That is an amazing product also and the effects are crazy good. :-)
I love the high flower paints... I'll have to get them add and do some abstracts for RUclips with them... so many ideas... so few hours in the day!! Thank you! 🥰
When I use the pigment powders I switch to the Tim Holtz mini mister & distress spray bottle. It helps to control the amount of water on the field. I would get really get frustrated with regular spray bottles. I use corners of paper towel to mop up spots I’m not happy with, reduce muddy results. I rarely use a brush but I’m going to introduce it now.
You are just so excited to see the results as the they develop before your eyes. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm. I do have a question the link for the Mika gold ink is an actual ink. In the video you said that it was a gel and it’s in a plastic squeeze bottle. Are they different products? Thanks again for your enthusiasm and sharing your art delight!
You have a lovely talent for this style of artwork. They would look really nice covering white or blank walls in a home. Do you have enlarged pieces that you can sell? You have tons and tons of ideas for this kind of mark-making art work. ❤So inspiring and Beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing your talents with us ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍
Thank you!! I have not enlarged these... my goal isn't to sell art... it is to play and make these art videos.... I do keep the originals incase I need them later to photograph and enlarge... so you never know. 🥰
I used to paint larger... then you run out of space for bigger pieces... I have several in the art classes I have on skillshare... but I haven't been in the mood lately - so none really on youtube yet. 😊
No idea on colorfastness. I can’t find where anyone says. You might do a light sample test by sitting your sample in a sunny window to see if is as colorfast as you need. 😊
Love these inspirational videos you post. So happy you have the time to post so frequently. One question…what is the art box subscription you mentioned ?
If just doing something like this collection - I don’t finish spray them. Usually I’d frame behind glass. It it had pastels on it, then a pastel finishing spray. If you are trying to keep them from getting ruined - then I’d store them in the clear art sleeves. Sometimes finishing sprays darken your art materials - and it is a shock when that happens. So test your spray on a piece that doesn’t matter before you put it on finished art. I ruined a piece one time when I sprayed it. If I absolutely have to have a finish spray - this krylon is the one I have: www.amazon.com/Krylon-K01305-Coatings-11-Ounce-UV-Resistant/dp/B00397STRW?ref_=ast_sto_dp
I have all of those and haven’t used them in years. Thank you sharing your art. I now have a desire to swatch them and play! What art boxes are you referring to? Is it a subscription? Love the panels you made.
I've had these for a few years too.. and just decided to pull them out and play... and I'm obsessed with them again!! LOL... I get Sketchbox every month... and just started getting Palletful.. and Art Snacks... I have some art hauls unboxing them if you want to check them out! 😊
Hi, thanks for your videos I love them 💓.Question; I ordered mica powders, can I work with them in the same way as you showed in the video? love from the Netherlands 🖌️🖍️🎨🍀
Thank you!! I don't believe the Mica Powders are going to react the same. Mica powders are good for making your own shimmery watercolor though. The watercolor powders have a binder in the powder mix that make them do special things when you add water. The Mica powder wouldn't have that in them. 😊
Denise, How do you sharpen your oil pastels when they do not have a point at the end of the pastel. Is it ok to use a hand held pencil sharpener ??? Thank for your help.
I was wondering what you do with all of your art pieces. Do you frame them, make them into card fronts, put them in an art journal, etc.? I was also wondering if you could create an Amazon shop. (I'm not sure how difficult that is or what the requirements are, but I shop Amazon a lot). I love watching your videos. I'm not an artist really because I can't really draw or doodle or any of that stuff. Your videos have taught me that it's okay to not to be an artist, but to still be able to make beautiful backgrounds. I use mine in an art journal I use for bible scriptures to help me focus and meditate on God's word. Thank you for teaching me to just be free and not get caught up in details. I'm new at playing with watercolors as historically, I'm more into alcohol inks. Abstract art is very freeing mentally. It calms me.
I keep most of the pieces since I make videos - I never know when I might want to photograph them for something... Some of them I frame and have them hanging up in my house - I have several gallery walls - so I just add to them. Some things I cut up and add to collages... some I cut up and make into art prompt cards... Some I eventually give as gifts... I don't sell art as selling art isn't my goal... my goal is to make art videos and workshops. 😁 So glad you are enjoying the videos!! I do have an Amazon page set up of my favorite art supplies and books.... that page is here: (www.amazon.com/shop/2lilowlsstudiodeniselove) Thank you!! 🥰🥰🥰
I don't have any Brusho... but I have heard of them.. I was playing in my art drawers and came across them.. and got them out to play... and now I'm obsessed with how fun they are again. 😊
@@2lilowlsstudio your art drawer must be like Mary Poppins' bag! Those Derwent sticks alone cost about $150, you are sitting on the mother lode! What is this "art box" you keep mentioning that you receive in the mail? Are there art faeries in your life?
@@lisabennett5078 To be fair... I have been collecting art supplies for the 11 years I've been in business... I used them to create painted textures that I scanned in and used in photos to make the photos more artistic. I just shifted to adding art classes to my offerings in the past 2 years on Skillshare. I'm fully shifting my business over to art offerings with the rise of AI and the photo stuff seeming to dip in popularity. Nothing like having an art business to justify buying more supplies!! Starting the RUclips channel in April just opened the floodgates for me... LOL!! (I have gotten Sketchbox for a few years.. .love that one... and last month I added Art Snacks and Paletteful - I have several videos on them on my channel if you want to check them out. This one compared all 3 - ruclips.net/video/Uy-m1AzAnxU/видео.html) 😁

What is the name of the first pen you mentioned? Thanks.
The Kakimori Brass Nib Dip pen maybe? I have links below the video for you to check them out! 😊
♥️♥️♥️
Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
What company does the bougainvillea and wisteria come from
I’ve linked everything I could find under the video. Check that out. TCW is on the label. So maybe the Ken Oliver color Sparx.
@@2lilowlsstudio thanks a bunch for the 411. #obsessed ✌️
I don’t sharpen mine. I don’t think I’d do a pencil sharpener either. That would totally gunk it up.
I use primary elements, same idea. Don’t need anymore watercolor in any form!!🤣🤣😳
😁😁😁
Not to add fuel to your addiction, but don't you have Brusho?
I don't have any Brusho... but I have heard of them.. I was playing in my art drawers and came across them.. and got them out to play... and now I'm obsessed with how fun they are again. 😊
@@2lilowlsstudio I promise you do NOT need brush with all the powders you have. Better to spend your money on something truly new. ❤
@@BB-nz5sk I've looked at them... but I really do have plenty of the powders!
Automotive painter’s tape brand HUD (yellow) does not tear even the cheapest of pulp paper. Check your local automotive paint supply house for this tape. No more expensive than “painter’s tape”. It is reusable as well!
Oooh! I’ll check it out! Thank you! 🥰
