Much more informative than the official Weber blurb. Very useful and easy-to-follow. Thank you Jerry.
Glad you found this helpful!
I didn't have a bucket large enough to fit the burner tube so I lined a box with a large trash bag. Worked great to clean the tube and the grill grates.
Just what I was looking for, thank you!!
I never realized how easy it was to remove the burner! Can't wait to get home and take apart.
Neither did I. I thought something was wrong with mine or maybe that it had reached the end of its useful life living outside in the Chicago winter. Nope, just a clogged tube. Hope that helps!
Well done Jerry! Nailed it!
Thanks, Jerry, just what I needed.
Good idea every year. Thanks for sharing Jerry! Great job!
No matter what you use, you gotta keep it in tip top shape! Thanks for watching!
Top video, very good to go back to. Will be implementing thanks Jerry

Good job!!! The paper clip worked perfectly and fixed the yellow flame issue.
Really glad the trick worked for you! Happy grilling!
WOW..Great job. Good to know those things.
Thank you for sharing and Have a good week ahead
Thank you! You too!
Just followed your instructions. Works like new. Thanks
Very glad to hear! I may have to do this to my Q2000 again very soon as it's not lighting up all the way around very easily these days. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! With one additional step, my grill is working better than ever! Took the fear out of trying to get the burner out to clean, and I loved the paperclip tip.
Glad to be of help. Yes the burner tube blockages are unfortunately quite common with the Q. Fortunately it is a pretty easy DIY fix
Thanks for this video mate you’re the man
Another helpful and well explained video. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful! Have a happy new year!
Such good video and info. .thanks for taking time to demo!

Super video Jerry. Exactly what I needed. This is now saved and sits in my VIP list 😀👍
Hey Joe! Glad you will find this video useful! Hopefully it will be a while and many great cooks on your Q2000 before you need to reference it :-)

Excellent video. Thank you!
Glad it helps! Thanks for watching!
Thanks bro
Awesome thanks
great video
great video! Changing out my gas tube on my 10+ year old Q200 today, and this has given me a lot more confidence for it. People miss out on how great the Q series is for city dwellers!
Hope it goes well Thomas! It's a pretty easy process, as it's literally just that single screw. Yeah, people really do miss out. It's a sea of Genesis and Spirits here in the city, and quite frankly I don't really understand why other than the American mindset of "bigger is better."
I just picked up a Q 200 @ a flee market for $10. Its missing the fuel knob. And burners were plugged 1/3 of them.
The replacement knob cost more then the whole unit did.
I've cleaned the burner holes and it works perfect
I also have a. Q-1200 which ia alot smaller then this unit. I've had it for 6 years works like new.
The Q-200 will be good for larger cook outs, or family picnics in the park. Couldn't let it go by...😊.
it worked. thank you!
Glad this helped!
Thank you! you totally McGyver'd that with no cost!
Glad you know the reference! 😃
Great Video!
Thanks! Hope it helped!
great tips and info friend:)
Thanks, no matter what you use to prep your meals, good maintenance and cleaning is key! Thanks for watching!
Super helpful... :)
Glad it helped Joey. Unfortunately the burner tube holes getting blocked is a pretty common problem. Usually a quick scrape will do the job but I find after a full season of heavy use I do tend to need to give it a good and full once over.
cheers
Thanks for sharing your maintenance experience. It would've been nicer if you showed the improvement of flame intensity. thanks
Great job! No surprise the Q is so popular. I plan on calling Weber in November or so and ordering a new burner tube. As you know my burner tube is over six years old. No complaints and Weber has GREAT customer service. Also, I dismantle my Q semiannually and take it to the coin operated car wash and pressure wash it like crazy. Works every time and no chemicals. Keep up your great work!!
They sure are durable for sure!
@@ChicagoGriller Amen. I think there are so many people that buy the Spirit or Genesis that never consider the Q. It must be a lack of knowledge or understanding. I would bet they would even last longer than the Spirit or Genesis given the Q's simplicity. I would love to see you do a taste test between the Q and the Spirit or Genesis if you knew someone that had one of the 2 others.
I’m pretty sure one of my neighbors has a Spirit or Genesis. Great idea, I will put a pin in that!
@@ChicagoGriller Thank you so much!!
@@michaelturnipseed3541 my only issue with the Q is that it's a single burner, you miss out on the Indirect aspect of a larger Genesis where you can turn off the back or front burner. I am looking to upgrade my regulator (clean it out) so I can pump a bit more heat into it. Then again, I have the original Q120 which has the single cast iron grate...
Now if I can just find a paperclip. Thanks for a good procedure and explanation.
Haha thanks! Yeah there are not a lot of paper clips in my house either lol. Hope this helps!
@@ChicagoGriller My grill is sparkly clean now, thanks for the advice.
A sim card tool works well
If you put a larger water-catcher under the grill, plain boiling water cleans beautifully. 😉
Never heard this tip before! I may be trying this out once spring comes around and it's warm enough outside!
HI, thanks for the help. My grill was pretty dirty and I had never cleaned the burner tube. (I came from the charcoal world a few years ago, and not used to the gas parts!) I am wondering why the flame comes out so far where the tube has the splits. Any help on that? 😊
my man!
Thank you for posting. My Weber flares up making a lot of air rushing noises. The flame sits high above the burner tube is difficult to keep stable. It’s seems to get either too much gas or too much air(?). The regulator dial only has a small effect. I have to control the flame with the gas bottle valve, turning it really down low to get a reasonably stable medium flame. I’ve cleaned the burner tube but this seems to be a problem with the regulator maybe. Anyone else seen this situation? Any ideas how to fix are very welcome 🙏

Hi Jerry. My Weber doesn't have a screw, newer model maybe? I looks like I have a hex screw but wanted to confirm before I try to hard to remove it.
Today I installed a new igniter on my Q1200 - it was pretty simple once I figured out how to "snap" the igniter box into the ignition hole. Unfortunately, I could only get the dang thing to heat up to 400 degrees - and that took 20 minutes. I'm gonna try your maintenance tips tomorrow - I haven't used the grill in about two years so maybe it's dirty - or maybe the spiders have made a nest in the tubes (I read that happens). Anyway, good video.
Yeah sounds like there’s probably some obstruction. If your flames are not blue or uneven then yeah 400 is probably as hot as you can get it. Both my Q2000 and Q1200 can get up to about 475.
Were you able to get the temps above 400?
Can you use oven cleaner on the grates?
Top job mate and what a legend for sharing. I broke the steel but that the knob rests on. Weber said I need to change the manifold, Is this an easy task from your experience?
Yikes! Sorry to hear about that! Unfortunately I don't have any experience changing that out so I can't speak on whether or not that's an easy or difficult process. Hope you can get your Q up and running again relatively easily and cheaply.
@@ChicagoGriller I called weber and they're sending out the part, apparently easy to change. Let's just say, I'm goinna give it a try 😀
If i tried this, but half the tube still doesn’t light, the half by the regulator, is there anything else i can try?
Jerry, I thought you have a Q2000 which you added a thermometer. At 5:12 I noticed you showed an electric ignitor, did you modified from the click style ignitor to the electric ignitor?
Hi Phil, you have a very sharp eye! My Q2000 does still have the click igniter, but the footage I used for "firing up the grill" was just old footage I took when I compared the Q to my neighbor's Q1200 (must have been what I had handy the day I edited the video). Thanks for watching.
Any comment on what ingredients are in the Grill Cleaner solution that makes it more effective/ different from kitchen de-greaser products? Appreciated watching this video - gets to the point.
Hi Karen! Thanks for watching! To be honest, it's probably not any different from kitchen de-greaser. It's all marketing... your ordinary cleaner that has some acidity and a heavier detergent in it should do a good job.
What size is the screw? I accidentally threw mine out with the grease that I cleaned our of the bbq...oops!
A sim card tool works well to unblock the burner holes ;)
Haha yes true, that would work out very well. However I think more people will have paper clips at home 🙂
Do you know where to get a replacement screw? I didn't take your advice and lost it. Thanks!
That is always my fear! Fortunately I believe it's just an ordinary screw. I am not sure what size or length, but you should be able to find one that fits at your local hardware or home improvement store.
Why clean away the flavor and seasoning from the bowl and the lid?
I have one of these grills that has a low flame issue. The only thing I haven’t done is rinse out the burner. These Q grills are temperamental at times.
Hey Brad, you're right they can be a bit temperamental. When cleaned and maintained, they are great. But the exposed and unprotected burner is a weak point. Those ports get clogged easily and often. I bought a brand new burner at the start of 2020 and probably within a couple months I started getting uneven flames that I would have to periodically scrape or poke out. That said, they are definitely good cookers, and relatively easy to care for, which is why it's all I have!
I just got my weber q 2200 on the first use. The flame already seem on the low side. I was using those 1 lb cylinder. However prep heat does get to 450 in about 10 min. Is this right?
Hi Sunny, this sounds to be correct. The flames out of the burner tube are not very tall. However with the lid down the temperature does climb pretty fast. 450 in 10 min is about right.
It is ok to wash the burner tube?? I read many places that say to never get the tube wet or it will rust.
Yes it's fine to wash your burner tube, stainless steel is pretty resistant to rust. Think of it this way - your utensils at home are made of the same material, and they don't rust after washing either... provided they are dried, and not left or stored in the elements!
How do you keep the interior top so clean? After about 2 years of use my is caked with black residue.
Ha well in this video I think it must have been recently cleaned. Several passes of oven cleaner will do the trick! It’s gotten black and grimey again by now so maybe it’s time for a video about that :-)
@@ChicagoGriller yes
Something got wet in my grill and now it won't work. What should I do?
Hi Ava! The Weber grills are pretty resilient to moisture. I have heard of people who leave them uncovered in the elements between uses. That said, do your best to let the grill air dry out and generally it will get back working again.
After 5 years, my Q has definitely lost performance and cleaning the burner holes doesn't do the trick anymore. I hope cleaning the whole tube will bring it back to higher temperatures.
Fingers crossed for you! Keep in mind after cleaning, you'll want the tube to be completely dry as if there's any bit of dampness to it it might not light right away. First time I did a really deep clean, I tried starting immediately and it was still a little wet and didn't not start, but lit after drying out.
@@ChicagoGriller perfect! Thanks for the advice, very helpful.
The title said cleaning but I just watch a person splash water on a WeberQ 🤷♂️
$15 on Amazon for a new burner. 1 screw, under 10 minutes and boom!
That might be easier than cleaning it!
Wait, is it really just slide in, reinstalling??
Hi Inuk, yup, it is really that easy! Slides right back and secured in place with just that single bolt!
@@ChicagoGriller thanks man, i just finished cleaning the parts, greetings from greenland my guy 👍🏻
@Inuk Tittussen! I love how RUclips connects the world! Cheers!
I thought to use metal brush on my drill.. .?
I was thinking the same thing, mine has a little rust but it’s not bad
U shouldn’t ever get water in the burner tub that’s why I put tin foil on it
This did not work .
Sorry that this didn’t fix your burner tube issue. You could have a stubborn blockage, or maybe something else is going on with the gas flow in your Q. Perhaps a regulator issue or issue with the hose. Those fixes are unfortunately beyond what I know at this time.
I think we have a Q1200...something to that effect. Had it for maybe 4 years? LOVE this little thing. No problems yet. Just onlyrecently put in the first new battery into the starter. Keep it pretty clean. I have noticed the burner tube seems to be getting a little clogged so I hope to clean it out
Yeah the burner tube gets clogged very easily. If you don’t at least scrape it with a brush or poke the holes out every few cooks the performance definitely drops.
@@ChicagoGriller is it safe to use any solvents to clean out the inside of the tube ? Is it even necessary to go that far?
is there a way to flush the crap on the inside of the tube out? betting its buldup from burning gases or something.
It’s just the ash or debris that falls through. Just following this video and removing the tube and flushing it with a hose should do the trick!
@@ChicagoGriller Thanks.
This is the first time weve cleaned the burner tube. Running like a brand new grill now. 👍👍👍👍
