Great series.. sneaky "keep on grillin" at 9:55 😊
Thank you for this series! Helps to learn the cleaning techniques! Looking forward to the next segment! Best wishes and regards! 🍺
Thanks for watching! In part 3, it all comes together. Cheers Bill!
Excellent restoration. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Mike. Appreciate the kind words. Cheers!
Really great series. Thanks. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you Shiela. Always great to hear from you. Cheers!
Really liking this series
Thanks Chris. I hope people find them helpful. I know I learned a lot. Cheers!
Suggest you use a ss painters wire brush on the grates. They do an amazing job on crud of any sort. Tried all sorts of brushes and now have settled on the painters brush. Ss is a must.
I powder coat the unit. Looks fantastic!
Nice job there guys!
Thank you! Cheers!
so satisfying
Glad you think so! This grill comes out amazing. Don't miss part 3.
Hey my friend,
this is exactly the same way as i do that here in Germany.
A friend od mine found a sandblasting company and for a good and reasonable price they clean the inside of the grill.
After that procedure the Q looks even better than factory fresh.
Cant wait for part 3
Best regards
Dee
Nice. The blue one came out so nice I gave it to my uncle and he loves it. Only problem is now I'm getting hooked on buying and selling these things. Cheers Dee!

Same here. Just yesterday I bought a Q1200 for like nothing. So I will clean it and resell it next week.
Meanwhile my wife’s car has to stay out of its garage, because I need it for storing all those grills. Hahaha.
Nice job , just fully restored my baby q after 5 yrs
Awesome. We had a lot of fun making this series. Cheers!
I restore old cast iron pans, and i use my Genesis to help! This way I'm not heating up the house with the oven :)
That's a great idea! One of the best reasons for grilling is not heating up the house in summertime. Cheers!
I've started lining my Q with aluminum foil, help quite a lot to keep grease etc level down.
Dont
My grandmother used to put plastic lining on her couch. Just sayin'
I found a flap disc on an angle grinder is much quicker than a wire brush wheel to clean open surfaces of the grill box and lid. It has more control and better safety too as you're not fighting to control the tool so much and it doesn't want to spin off & eat you like a wire wheel.
Great tip!
Do you apply anything on the inside after hitting it with the flappy disk?
If you have any guitarist friends, have them save their strings or string clippings. You can use those like torch tip cleaners. Theyre also great for cleaning paint guns.
Interesting idea. Thank you.
Thanks lot for alll your advices. Just one question. is it OK to spray with color inside a lid or not. I think I heardd on one of your explanations that it will burn.
No. I would not recommend painting the inside of the lid. Cheers!
Enjoying the video. Tell me, does the wire brush clean only the baked in food remains or it strips down the paint (coating) as well. I don't want to damage the grill, just make clean it. Thank you
I did not notice any damage. An alternative would be to use a pressure washer.
@@GallaghersGrub i don't know how the pressure washer could clean up as well as this wire. It is not strong enough. But... the part 3 reveal gold Q is outstanding!
Its "Torx" head bolts holding the side shelves in place. "Star-like" is a bit vague :)
Thanks for clarifying.
@@GallaghersGrub....nice refurbish, by the way. I'm in the process of a similar project.
❤
The "weird star-like hex things" are Torx. The white crusty stuff is [aluminum] corrosion
Thank you. Cheers Rick!
I was going to use oven cleaner on mine, but after reading the can it said not to use on aluminum. Do you use a specific type of oven cleaner?
Instead of oven cleaner, I would use the drill brush like we did in this video.
Does anyone know if it’s okay to spray paint the outside bottom of the grill? Of course high heat paint, What about sand paper what grit would be good for light sanding?
TIA
Good question, I’d like to know too.
I'm sure it would be fine. Make sure to use a high heat paint used on fire ect. Can get it in cans.
Grit - start fine and see what doesn't scratch.
The way you clean it grill at 5:40 with the steel brushes, doesn't that break the material down so that it's a lot harder to get it off next time? obviously it doesn't matter, if the you you'd choose to clean it always would be with a steel brush on a screw machine.
It's doesn't appear to. Maybe if you did it all the time eventually it would break it down. I'm not certain. Sure gets it nice and clean though. Cheers Nikolaj!
If you have a self-cleaning oven, you can put the parts in the oven, let it run its cycle. Wife will be happy you cleaned the oven and the parts will be clean. I did that with my smokers grills and heat deflector. Disclaimer, my parts were steel.
Thanks for the tip! I will give that a try. Cheers k!
Aluminum oxide on interior I think.
Yep, same as you get on aluminum at the coast.
how much would you let a Q1200 shipped go for?
Ask Sean on the Facebook Weber Q group page. He'll probably ship you a custom Q
Found wire brush on drill is too harsh and overkill. I just used 240 grit and it's cleaned up nicely
The white u see on the inside is aluminum oxide is my guess...
Yeah, I think so too. Cheers Mikael!
You just wrecked the barbeque it was black and you just sanded it 😂 fail
Yeah, we painted it, and it looks fantastic.
Great series, and great timing considering what time of year it is. I find it such a shame when you go to the dump and see folks discarding bbq's, lawnmowers, etc because as they say they don't work anymore. More often then not they just need to be cleaned up. Keep on grilling. 😃👍🌭🔥🍻🌤
I found the blue Q at the dump, cleaned it up and gave it to my uncle. It works perfect and he loves it.
@@GallaghersGrub NICE, very nice.
