I found a baby Q 100 with a for free sign in somones front yard about 2 months ago. Fully dismantled it, hit the interior with oven cleaner and scotch bright. I sanded the top and the bottom with 220 grit, wiped off with damp paper towel followed by tack cloth. I sprayed the lid with almond Rustoleum high temp BBQ paint and the bottom with black. I cleaned all of the nooks and crannys on the plastic chassis with a magic eraser sponge. I purchased a 2 piece cast iron grate set on Amazon. Reassembled and cured the paint by preheating it for awhile before throwing some steaks on. Best trash find and best grill I've ever had. Weber Qs are awesome!
Fantastic. These things are tanks. Great find!
Great video series of three on how to fix-up your weber grill!
Awesome! Recently became the owner of a Family Q 3200 - this video will be useful one day - Thank you 🙂
I want to thank you so much for sharing your tips and routine for cleaning these grills. We bought ours around 2006 and hadn’t used ours since 2020 since we moved and it was a scary nasty mess. I never removed the grate all that time. Shame on me. I was going to cook burgers on it today and was shocked at how bad it looked inside and out. Id have sworn we needed a new cast iron grate. I set about cleaning and scraping out the crud. After about an hour of cleaning and removing alot of debris, it was cleaned enough to cook on once I scraped seasoned the grates after cleaning. I tried lighting it and it fired right up! 😳 my husband has enough projects so with the help of your videos, Im going to take it apart and give it a proper cleaning and face lift! The paint blistered off the exterior lid but it should restore nicely. The plastic scraper worked perfect. This little gem will be going camping with us in the Class C motor home and will get much more love than we’ve shown it in the past! Thank you for such a complete series! 😉. God bless!
Fantastic restoration! The man has talent! Thanks for taking the time to post.
Thanks for watching! Learned a ton making this series.
Awesome vids! Just picked up a free Q with collapsible stand, going to restore this weekend
What an awesome colab. This 3 part series ought to keep more Weber Qs out of the landfill. What a valuable bunch of info for any BBQ, not just Webers, to help everyone to 'Keep on Grilling'. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you Sheila. Weber would probably rather everyone buy new grills. But I think it's nice to keep them out of the landfills.
@@GallaghersGrub - yeh, I suppose that is true.
Thank you for the great information! The skills are so useful to know! Great to see the enthusiasm for the projects an the skills possessed! Looking forward to the next vlog! Best wishes and cheers! 🍺
Thanks for watching! This was a lot of fun to make (and gave my wife and I an excuse to spend a weekend in Boston eating lobster rolls).
WOW, THIS VIDEO WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉. THANKS SO MUCH🥰. Reeeeeeallly Enjoyed that✅🥰🥰🥰
Thanks Geralyn. Sean and I are going to make another series. Should be uploaded in a couple of weeks.
Sean's the Man! Wish I had a neighbor like that
Awesome series. Learned alot. That new color is outstanding.
Yes, I love the color. Not sure what it was going to come out like. But it's great.
Great serie of vids! I have a Q1400 and the cleaning tips will come in handy. I watched your other Q-serie cleaning video too! I must say I really enjoy your vids. They give my a lot of inspiration for trying out new recipes on my grill! Keep on grilling!!
Awesome! Thank you! You know, these little Q's are pretty fun. I always thought I'd get a big stainless steel gas grill, but not sure if I really need one.
Absolutely Awesome! From all the way from Australia. Cheers Mark
Thanks for watching down under! We're going to be shooting another Q maintenance vid this summer. Stay tuned. Cheers!
I love that copper color!!
Great mini series!
Me too! The copper is definitely hot!
Great work, Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Calle. Cheers!
this series is awesome! Great ideas I never thought of using the paint scraper or wire wheel I have all those tools but stupidly been cleaning by hand. Cheers
Thank you! Appreciate you watching. More Q vids on the way.
I’m 6 years deep on mine. Just put a new burner in it and cleaned it up and I’m ready for another 6 years. Simplicity makes these great.
They are super simple grills built like little tanks.
Great restoration. Really like the new color of grill 👌
Thank you. I'm liking the new color too.
Big thanks to you and Sean for this series. I have an embarrassingly dirty Q that was badly in need of a deep clean for use in some tailgating/camping I'll be doing in the near future, and I took a first crack at it last night for a couple of hours. After these videos, I feel way more confident that I can actually restore it, and do so in way less time.
How'd it come out?
@@GallaghersGrub it took an angle grinder with two different bristle brush attachments, a lot of elbow grease and time, but it turned out great! Thanks again.
Great video - watching as well in Australia. I found after a few years that I had to re-tap all my gas ring holes to remove the buildup so that all the jets worked again. Looking for that copper colour!
Love the vid and the 80's song 👍👍 thx
I'm really digging that 80s montage myself.
Solid work guys! Thanks for the inspiration, time to dust off that old Q2000 and tune her up....maybe even a paint job!
I would not recommend this brand of paint. It looks great, but I've had issues with it
That music got me!! awesome! haha...
Lol! Cheers Melton.
Nice series!
Glad you think so! It was a lot of fun to make. Cheers BPDude!
Great Guys!!! this made me "buy" one of those Weber Qs and restore it myself. I had to buy a new grate because the old one was so so rusty but anyway. Videos helped ALOT. Keep it up. Best Rgds from Switzerland
Right on! We love finding them on FB Marketplace and refurbishing them. They're build like little tanks. The paint I used in this video looks great, but didn't last very well with the high heat of the grill.
@@GallaghersGrub Thanks for the Info about the Paint - that would've been my next step! And yep they are totally built like tanks. if i would stumble across another good deal i will totally take it
Great info, thank you!
We'll probably make another Weber Q series again this summer. Got some good ideas. Please stay tuned...
Great job that looks so cool now 👍👍
Thank you. I kind of love this color.
That looks so cool, the copper color ;D Same color as my Ford Fiesta ;)) Great video again.. Greetings from Denmark ;))
Cheers Henning! Hoping to get some more vids out soon. Just been very busy. Thanks as always for watching in Denmark!
Hello thanks for tips in this video very nice collor this weber bye from Bavaria germania
Thanks for this video, tomorrow I'll get up for find my used Weber Q. I want to restore and paint the bbq for next party with friends. You have also a good watch the mithologic Seiko SKX. Hello from Milan Italy
Ah, a watch aficionado. Yes, the SKX is a good piece. Also have the discontinued Sarb033. Cheers!
Nice colour!
Thanks Brent! Appreciate you watching.
Great vlog, Cheers from Australia and your right they are expensive down here lol
Thanks for watching Down Under, Craig. Cheers!
The colour is the bomb
Thanks. I like it.
you made my day 😀
Thanks Roland. We had a blast making this series. This brand of paint though I probably would not recommend. Cheers man!
great job
Thank you. Be sure to check out our new series from this summer. ruclips.net/video/ToZJotuFp0k/видео.html
Great series! I have restored a couple of kettles and these Q's also. I like the wire cup brush, will try that out - especially on the burner tubes. I wouldn't use them on the porcelain enameled kettle bowls, for those I use razor scrapers and steel wool (and SOS pads). I usually separate kettle bowls and Q domes (and the grate(s)) and place them in to separate big plastic yard trash bags. I cover them in heavy duty Easy Off oven cleaner and then tie the bags up so they "marinade" for a day or two. I do the same thing with kettles (place kettle bowl on a 30 gallon trash can - acts as a perfect form-fitting work surface and you can push the crap out through the vent holes into the lined trash can). Then scrape with a plastic putty knife. I'm going to try to paint my next Q. Thinking I'll mask the embossed "Q" with tape and vaseline and make the dome orange and the "Q" white (Go Vols!). Everything else soaks in hot water and Dawn for a day or two, except the electronics / ignition. After the EZ-Off marinade and the Dawn soaking, the grates clean up to factory new condition with a nylon brush. Hardest thing is getting oxidation off the drip tray - almost NO ONE uses the drip pans or lines them with foil. I'll try the wire cup brush on the next one. If I ruin it, I can replace it for $20-30USD.
Good luck! Would love to know how your next one comes out. I would not recommend this paint as it bubbled on me. I re-sanded it, repainted it, and it bubbled on me again. Cheers Puto!
@@GallaghersGrub The VHT paint bubbled up on you? Did you go through their curing stages (link below)? I wonder if that could make a difference? I haven't painted a BBQ before. www.speco.com.au/vht_faq.html
How much did you try to get out of them price wise?
new color looks fantastic. also, he has some nice looking grass! and anyone that uses a grill cover, a yearly coat of armor-all or tire dressing will keep it slick and bead off water ;)
Right on. Thanks for the tip.
What a legend
Lol! Legends in our own minds. Cheers and thanks for watching!
thanks for this now I will try to fix mine--been sitting for many years--igniter doesn't work and the grill I used a wire brush and took off some of the enamel coating so I think I'll buy a new replacement grill plate--and I need a new propane tank/fill--hopefully it will work and I can enjoy it again
You might just want to pick up a used one off FB Marketplace. You can sometimes find them on their pretty cheap and in great condition.
Danke für das hochladen 👍
Was ist das für eine tolle Farbe?
Absolutely loved the restore on these!!
Have you ever painted the black legs and handles with any luck?
If so, what type of paint do you use, as I would think trying to get it to adhere would be difficult?
You need to use high heat paint. And it needs to be cured. Each paint is different, you just have to follow the curing directions on the can. Sean and I will be shooting another series. Stay tuned.
Great series. Now I have to admit I really liked the original color but enjoyed you doing the original vid on painting it and how simple it was to do. But this new color looks great. Now a suggestion, if you decide in a year or two to paint it again, not saying you will, but consider masking the recessed area with the "Q" name on top. Spray the new color, then pull the masking tape and end up with a two colored "Q" top. That new current color would make a great accent color. And with the heat we are having I can't but think just leaving it out under the sun a few days would season the paint all by itself. Now get some food in that grill 😃👍🔥🍔🥩🌭🍗🍻.
I love the idea of masking the Q on top of the grill. Thanks Victor!
@@GallaghersGrub glad I could help. If or when you do this I'd love to see it. Actually thinking about finding a used "Q" just to do it. If I could find a "Q" in that original color you had, masked that and painted the rest the right shade of blue it would be the perfect colors for a Seahawks tailgate bbq. Ohhh, how envious the many 12th men would be, definitely unique. Cheers buddy. Btw,only been able to do 2 cooks on the big IVS so far,not enough time. But I'm going to be able to do cooks every week now. So why do I mention this? I know it's crazy but I'm actually beginning to consider converting a 500 gallon propane tank this winter to a Moberg style off set smoker. Proof I need a good woman in my life to say "ENOUGH " ,but until then it's a lot of fun to think about 😄😆😅🤣😂👍🍻🔥 Have a great day and yuppers, keep on grilling.
❤
Great job guys, would have been such a waste to throw away those Webers!!
GREAT SERIES!! Quick question. What would you or he recommend to clean the grill top if it's REALLY baked on?? I have the traditional titanium for my Q 120 top and nothing I have tried has REALLY gotten that titanium top "like new" clean.
I tried many things on the top, and the grease marks never came off. That's why I painted it.
What size is the burner bolt? Also I see that they are often rusted stuck. Any tips in replacing them? Original weber ones only comes with a new burner. But if the burner is fine it seems overkill to buy new tubes just for the bolts.
What a great video! It has inspired me to paint my old Q320, however the lid had some chips and the powder coating has chipped/blistered in some parts. Now I'm torn between lightly sanding 400 grit, which probably will still show the imperfections OR strip back the lid with paint stripper (weber says it's made of cast aluminum), etch prime and spray. I'm yet to find an etch primer that will stand up to 600F or anyone online who has done this. Does your restoration guy have any advice on this?
I'm not sure what Sean would recommend. Check the Facebook Weber Q group. He's a moderator on their and will answer any questions.
I will tell you though, that this burnt orange paint I used bubbled when I put the grill on high. I have not had very good luck with this brand of paint.
Hey Sean, thanks for all these videos, great work! Quick question, do you know if all the Q series Weber grills use the same drip pan?
Yes, they do.
@@jimmundy5745
Great! I've got a Q140 with a missing drip tray, do you happen to have an extra that I can buy from you?
@@x-man4702 I would double check that info. I believe the 1 series uses a different one from the 2 and 3 series.
they look amazing. I have a problem with my family Q. At the moment it's not got the blue flame anymore. Could it be the regulator on the gas bottle? Thank you. I have removed the burners, cleaned them inspected every hole. All good. Its 11 years old
I only get yellow flames on my 2200 as well. Not sure why.
Молодец чувак.
благодарю вас
Hi, Great series of videos!
I am now cleaning my Q200, and I'm facing an issue with the shelves and top.
On the shelves I have like white stains I'm unable to remove with soap/oven cleaner.
On the top, on the external part there are also stains, like the color is fading (black)
please advise (I'd like to avoid repainting the lid :) )
I think there's a magic erasure product that will remove the grease stains on the sides of the lid. You should join the Weber Q Facebook group and pose your question there. You'll definitely get answers. Hope this helps. Cheers!
As a giants fan I'm really digging that orange. I have the green q, maybe ill paint it orange.
There's only one Giants team. And that's the New York Football Giants.
@@GallaghersGrub As a Dodger season ticket holder, I completely agree.
Haha!
May I ask a question ? What have you found about the spacers between the the legs and the lower body ? They are many times found broken. One of mine was broken. Weber had that part only available with the legs. It is some sort of compressed material that i assume does not transfer heat. You can see it by how they break. And no, my q was never rough handled after my possession so i assume it broke in shipping. And it's nothing you can see until many years later when doing a full overhaul as i did and when i found it. Still ticks me off that such a thing from weber is not available. Thanks,
Great video. Thanks. Any idea how to clean burn marks baked on lid?
The grease marks baked on the lid do not come off. That's why we're painting them. Lol!
@@GallaghersGrub ha ha. Of course. Should I strip right back to metal before painting or can I just sandpaper smooth then spray?
@@mregas78 Just sandpaper. And not too coarse. If it's too coarse, it will put grooves in your lid.
@@GallaghersGrub Thank you.
Cool. I would like to restore my 220. Is the there a high heat match to the factory tan?
I'm not sure. I bought this high heat paint off Amazon and would not recommend it. The paint has bubbled on me and is not very good with the heat.
Would you possibly repaint the body that's scratched up?
What about cleaning the regulator area. Mine looks terrible in there oven cleaner on that too??
I gotta admit when he first stated painting I thought that was a terrible choice of color but at the end I was like damn Gina.
Yeah, I wasn't sure either. The cap on the paint can doesn't really do it justice.
Looks amazing! What brand of paint did you use?

@@GallaghersGrub And you said the Orange one bubbled ?
Sean do you have a method for troubleshooting the LP connector hose and regulator? My q 200 will not light. It was working fine and decided to clean it up per your videos, which are great may I say, but when I completed it would not relight. I refueled and still no luck lighting it. I figure you may have had experience with this. Any help would be appreciated.
You can ask Sean questions on the Facebook Weber Q group page. He won't be reading these comments.
Hi CEG, just a suggestion, beef jerky on a WEber Q.
Great idea and I've been thinking of jerky because I just went on a road trip and jerky gets expensive at the gas stations.
Do you just leave the inside of the grill wirebrushed, without putting any paint or something to protect it from rust? I wirebrushed the inside of my lid on a weber and it doesn't look great. Would you recommend I use a heat resistant paint for the inside of the lid?
No, do not paint the inside of the lid. Cast aluminum does not rust.
Would painting the bottom portion of the grill affect it?
I’m in the process of restoring a q series grill.
Previous owner never once though about removing the grease tray or anything.
I’m still slowly getting it degreased and next to resemble it.
I think you could paint the bottom, just not the inside.
What paint do you use to restore the original factor white lids? Care to share a link? Thanks
I have only used Rustoleum matte black and this burnt orange. I would not recommend the paint in this video as I have had some issues with it.
Did you keep your Weber q after the new paint color which is an awesome color
Yes, I'm keeping the burnt orange Q. I gave the blue one to my uncle.
@@GallaghersGrub That’s awesome thanks for the reply To you and your Uncle keep on Grilling 🙂
Just wondering if you can paint the bottom part of the outside of the baby Q? Not just the lid?
Yes, you can. Just be sure not to get any paint inside the grill.
Would you consider doing a video on this at some point. How to disassemble the bottom part of the BBQ. I've been given my brothers old baby Q and it's seen better days and I would like to refresh it if I can but the bottom seems to have more flaky paint that the top.. couldn't seem to find any videos on RUclips that showed restoring the bottom of the bbq. Thanks for the reply the videos were great.
there a site or place to get one of these? one of the rebuilt ones....
No, but if you're ever in the Boston area, Sean can hook you up.
What size screw is it holding the gas tube. Missing mine.
Just try a few common screws. They aren't special.
How did the copper plate hold up. Did it still look like new after several cooking or did it start to flake or bubble?
I do NOT recommend this paint. I have had bubbling issues with it, and have had to sand and repaint several times. I think I'll make a video about this issue. Cheers man!
@@GallaghersGrub Thank you for taking the time to reply. If you find a paint that does work that is not black I would appreciate knowing about it.
I would think you need the 1,200 deg paint. Engine paint is not made for high heat. There is a 2,000 deg paint but I dont think it is necessary.
I would spray the interior of the lid with engine paint so the aluminum doesn't corrode. Pretty sure the white residue is the aluminum corroding.
Sorry but you do not know what you are taking about.
We do NOT recommend spraying the interior of the lid as it will be under direct heat and inside the grill with your food. Hope this helps. Cheers!
Where can faund the gas valve for Weber Q 2000. ? (year 2014)
Call Weber. They're customer service is great. Or look for a used Q on Facebook Marketplace. Good luck Sergio!
How’s the paint job holding up?
The paint on this grill, bubbled and flaked. The silver paint I used on the Q2200 has been holding up great.
Where is the best place to buy replacement parts?
Weber.com or Amazon. Or you may be able to find a used one really cheap on FB Marketplace.
I restore mine in a similar way
That wire cup brush is a game changer
@@GallaghersGrub have you ever seen a rare Weber Q
The paint on the inside on my Q is peeling away, what is the correct paint to repair it with?
There shouldn’t be paint inside your Q.
Something is flaking away? Any ideas? Help is appreciated thank you.
