What a killer performance this was by Husker Du. Husker Du, as well as the 80s SST roster, were just awesome musicians & songwriters. Husker Du, Black Flag, Minutemen, Meat Puppets; etc. was my soundtrack music as a teen in the 80s to present day. Just timeless tunes that still floor me 25 years later.
@chucktown00 Husker Du spawned a whole new generation of music that sprung forth the Pixies, Green Day, Sonic Youth, Soul Asylum, Faith No More and, yes, Nirvana. The way they put melody in a form of music that didn't think it could be done was ground breaking. To put it on a Beatles level IS a bit over the top. But they were THAT influential within specific genres in that they changed that style of music forever.
@tubbythug92 But the Pixies9who Cobain said he was "basically ripping off", are very much disciples of Husker Du. Black Francis was a huge fan as was Kim Deal. The entire grunge and New Punk sounds were largely based on the Husker Du sound. So even if he didn't listen to them, and most authorities on him agree he would have to have gone out of his way NOT to given his love of the Pixies, they still influenced him through his being influenced by the Pixies. Husker Du is a seminal band.
@tubbythug92 Thats like saying someone who was influenced by Led Zeppelin wasn't influenced by Muddy Waters because they never said so. Obviously if the Pixies, who say Husker Du was a major influence on them and Cobain says he was going for that exact sound then he IS influenced by them.
haha thank you dude! i love husker du but I'm sick of people talking about how underrated they are. sure, people who don't listen to this kinda stuff don't mention them but most people who listen to "alternative" (blech!) music refer to them as one of the best bands of all time. they get plenty of credit in the underground (jesus who made up these fucking stupid terms?)
@chucktown00 and you threw in hugely. I didnt say that. Also, Dave Grohl , who was also in Nirvana came from hardcore punk and is a huge fan of the band. Cobain was very clear that while he came up with the initial concept for the songs it was the entire band who decided what direction they could take. You cannot deny that the influence is there. You could but you would be wrong, with all due respect.
@heroiniskindacool i have to agree with morgoth195. bob mould never sold out to MTV and because of that, at the time, 99% of journalists paid Du no attention. only years later while bob was heading up sugar and then solo were journalists ready to proclaim Du as something special. these "journalists" from Spin and Rolling Stone only praised Du due to social pressure. at the time, the mags were consume with REM and other sell outs to pay any attention to great bands like Du.......
@chucktown00 It doesn't mean Nirvana was hugely influenced by Husker Du, Pixies was influenced by Husker Du, yes you're right, but that doesn't mean Nirvana has any relation to Husker Du. I'm sure Kurt listened to them and liked them, but I have never read a thing or watched a interview of Kurt mentioning Husker Du.
@morgoth195 Kurt did not rip off Husker Du. If anything he took a lot of ideas from The Pixies and a lot of punk rock like The Sex Pistols. Never have I heard once that Kurt said he found Husker Du a huge influence. If you so happen to find this information send it to my local message box. Thank you.

I agree. Husker Du deserves much more success and recognition than it gets.
One of the greatest songs ever written..
My favorite Huskers song. Perfect, thanks.
Still makes my eyes well up ... and I've heard it about twelve thousand times.
tears of joy!
They were ahead of their time.
I always love revisiting this song (and video) at this time of year.
such an incredible song from an incredible band.
they play so fricking fast and tight, the live version is so awesome.
to my favorite band...
This song makes me fucking cry.
Hüsker Dü, best band ever came to earth.
Best band
Beautiful, bittersweet song. I suspect it'll always have a special place in my heart.
Grant was so underrated on how precise he kept the beat.

How does this only have like 4000 views a year?
mould's vocal range is nonexistent in this performance.
im pretty sure kurt used to listen to husker du bro, and dave from nirvana has a song with bob mould
My all time favourite song! Where is this taken from, an officially released DVD?
Must be a Mould thing, that's the way it was with Sugar, too.

They are not underrated at all, they are critically acclaimed
Only in your mind.

And the best part of the live versions was Grant's backing vocals, which he sadly doesn't do here either.

Ab-solutley. No husker du, no nirvana.
@TallFastLoud that's what they mean by underrated, that they aren't as well known as they should be
Husker Du live in London pt. 7
what about the replacements?
hey, so it's pronounced who-sker do right?
yeah, as far as minneapolis is concerned husker du is the only good thing to come out it... that includes prince, semi-sonic and scotch tape.
@chucktown00 You just prooved yourself wrong in this statement. lol!

nirvana doesn't even compare to husker du bro
