The 'Mats were the best ever. It might sound weird but they helped save my life. Being a severely depressed Chicago punk, in 1986, Chicago's WXRT were interviewing Paul and Tommy about Pleased To Meet Me. They were drunk and giggling, and after coming out of my Sid Vicious stage, I needed to laugh. Then XRT played Alex Chilton. To me it was like saying don't take life so seriously, we are all fuck ups, drink some beer and laugh at yourself, just be yourself. Will always love 'em.
I fuckin' love(d) Bob Stinson, I know he was not the most talented, but he had a truly original style and sound, RIP baby, you are not forgotten ~!~~!!
If you go to a Replacements show expecting a "great show" in the traditional sense every time then you don't understand the Mats. I was at the aforementioned shows........and loved them no questions asked. You never knew what you were gonna get is part of what makes them the greatest rock and roll band ever.
moved to Minnesota to go to college partly because of these drunks.......great to go to a SCSU bar and hear the Mats.
Yeah I saw them at Metro, the Aragon, and yes I indeed saw and heard quite clearly Tommy Stinson coming out and saying "This is the last time you'll ever see us together again!" My ex tried to comfort me, but could not be comforted:)
Best Damn Band In The Land
God bless The Mats! Warts n' all.
In my mind they're the greatest. Regardless, most will agree that they were, are and always will be a powerfully important rock & roll band.
ps. i'm presently in a Pleased to Meet Me phase
This takes 240p to a new level. Fucking awesome band
this is what it's all about. there's a reason that this song is quoted by everyone who ever quoted anyone
Anybody remember their SNL appearance with Bob in some god awful culottes. Was said they wouldn't be invited back. I'm thinking this sounds good, thinking it's Slim Dunlap but sure enough it's Bob! He'd be gone by year's end. Thank you for this upload!
Soo cool to see more footage from this show!
they were the best band of the 80's. paul isn't an asshole and the band continued to make great music after Bob left.
When I worked at Tower Records in the mid 90's
I had lunch with Westerberg and a few of my colleagues he was somewhat cagey but we bonded over jazz music.
You wish, it's a nice story to tell yourself as the nights get darker and darker.
Damn straight.
makes it better!
Like I stated previously, "his best work was done while intoxicated". Just listen to the Mats...every bit of was done while they were loaded and every bit of it is incredible...my opinion. I think it is better though, that he is sober. That is all.
@doughnutbreath "fucked up elegance" describes them so perfectly! Should be the title of another book about them.
just what I heard dont bite my head off.
Nice Member's Only jacket, Bob...
I used to have a lot more to say when I was younger...it was a younger point of view. Before we get old and jaded, it is very crucial to express oneself and find ones true identity. Believe me, "sobriety" is very critical. I wrote all kinds of shit when I was strung out. Today, it sounds pathetic. That is primarily what Paul was saying for years after he got "sober".
This is great, but what's happening is Paul is thinking beyond....they rest of the band is in the moment. Especially Bob Stinson. ...RIP
F. Scott Fitzgerald was in his late twenties when he wrote The Great Gatsby.
This is not at Maxwell's. It's at the 7th St Entry, MPLS. It's a video audition for labels.
Don't Tell A Soul and All Shook Down are both fantastic records.......
Bobby on guitar!
yeah he seriously was, you could have had a band with the stinsons and mars and it would have still been an awesome band
Paul doesn't drink anymore...for a lot of years now.
Bob's body just gave out from years of abuse and not so much smack or booze but decades of everything.
Yeah, okay, whatever you say.
Big hair, Hell Yeah!!! sorry bobby, u rock harder than a cialis od anyhow
poor bob. fucker died. he can be proud of this.

Press the "save to" button
Heroin aka horse sucks ass...I am glad I got cleaned up. It was a life of misery.
Uh, yeah, whatever yo say.
How can you tell when there are new posts of them?? I know how I can tell now...you can let me know, if you want? Hahahaha....I am just too dense to figure it out.
Wow! I suppose he was pretty messed up??? That sucks he had to die from "horse".
OK then, since you know him so well...do you not think it is best he stay sober??? I do. Although his best work was done while intoxicated...
insulin needle found next to the body...just saying but whatevea'.
How the fuck do you favorite videos these days?
I agree with you about being the "greatest american band", but come on already...crying??? There is no crying in rock and roll....hahahaha.
Cheer up emo kid...hahahahahahahaha
pretty shitty band alround , sorry to say i heard their albums and concur.
lucky timing on their part for someone to promote their name but c'mon , compared to the stones, doors, animals , dylan,,amateurs.
