- Twin Cities afternoon housewife variety program...so weird!
This video got mentioned in the (Mpls paper) Star And Tribune's "Minnesota music's greatest RUclips hits" and came in at #1 on the list 6/17/07 - Видеоклипы
I directed this! These guys were great and Steve and Sharon took a leap of faith in booking them because it was such a departure for "Good Company". As I recall, we pre-taped this. They were so loud, people from all parts of the station showed up to see what was going on. I loved it. I may have the full performances somewhere. Thanks Husker-Du! I was really proud I got to do this.
Did you find it? It is 9 years now... :-)
I second that
What were Grant and Greg looking at off camera at 2:26?
I bet each of those ladies went out and bought Land Speed Record!
For sure!
😆🤣😆🤣😆🤣
The world wasn't ready for this type of music in 1986. Husker Du was ahead of their time.
Sandro Kovalev you're right. Full of zeppelin and sabbath...
They needs someone to come along and play out of tune and fuck the tempo up...
"Break out, wild, full-tilt sound!"
Too scared to say punk
I am speechless. The most amazing archival RUclips video I've seen in years! #GrantHartOnVocals
Husker Du changed rock and roll forever! They should be worshiped around the world.
My mum call them Husky Du and her favourite album is Land Speed Record.
she's 73.
badass
Lol
The housewifes genteely applauding at 01:35, priceless.
This is absolutely surreal. The way the host nervously fake-laughs just before he welcomes the band to the couch for their interview is disturbing. And the band's hair, especially Grant with his mom-approved haircut - too much, lol. I applaud the courage to book these guys on this show with all the blue-haired old ladies out in the audience but I also shake my head at the utter incongruity of it all. Very strange.
I wish they showed them playing the songs in their entirety . . . without a doubt two of their best.
It's fantastic that middle-of-the road man from middle-of-the road TV show with middle-of-the road audience perfectly defined Husker Du!
I needed this today.
What a nugget! Thanks!
hahahaha see the people in the crowd thinking what the fuck hahahahaha
When Bob talks about the guy that grabs his neck he says "I just wacked him off". Ok, I'm immature. Cool video!
if you think this is odd check out the vid of them on the joan rivers show..
A wild...full tilt sound!
I go to the same high school bob mould did.
The best snapshot of what it was like to grow up in Minnesota...ever.
Love the straighthead audience! And the clear lack of enjoyment but tolerance they don't know what they've got
I never figured out how Bob could play with his guitar at his knees :o
So much Midwestern nice!
@carsonkit nice! It looked a bit pieced together after they performed and went up for the interview. That would be some awesome rare goodies for the raw or unedited performances!
I went on a tour there once for kicks...the guitarist of Slave Raider was our host!
That is bizzare
I love that ! both of my favourite bands The 'Mats and Husker Du...I saw posting of the SNL gig a few weeks back under a more 'subtle' title...I will try to find it for ya.
Yes. That was a clip from 1986 where he was hosting Saturday Night Live, and the musical guest was The Replacements.
Holy sh•t, so did I. It was very much worth it.
I remember watching this after school....
This clip is awesome.
Oooooooooooh, wow. That's something. Weird.
@thefunboy1 It's actor Harry Dean Stanton introducing The Replacements on their infamous Saturday Night Live appearance.
They don't sound so wild now, but they sound good, that's the main thing.
Keep in mind it was 86'. They did think Ozzy was the devil incarnate in the 70's..
I was one of those uptown punker people too!
Imagine being Husker's manager and booking this show thinking this is the perfect audience to get the word out?
0:21 "making it"! these guys were hitting the big time so its ok 2 have them on the show.
lol all those housewifes..clapping...they must have been like wow!
When a bunch of gay punk rockers make purple haired grannys cream for the first time since their honeymoon
Steve Edelman... has his own big production company. Offices in Mpls and San Francisco. Lots of shows for HGTV and Food Network.
f***ing bizarre and awesome
I bet most of the audience were more familiar with the Danish or Swedish board game of the same name than the band. I remember watching that show when I was in high school. I think it was usually winding up when I'd get home from school. Never saw this particular one, though.
That is so cool that this local show supported them like that. Still, I had to laugh at the audience pan. Imagining the housewives and grandmas getting into Husker Du. It would be cool to hear the other guys speak more. It's crazy how different some of the bands sounded that were on the same bill and got categorized as "punk". Husker Du, Minutemen, Black Flag, Descendents, Dinosaur Jr., none of them sound similar.
Do u remember???,,, this is the same band that released Land speed record? of course there was riots at there shows, this band is the shit !!!
I bet Bob is a high as hell, that why's he's got those sunglasses on..
This was supposed to be a reply to,
"Hahaha, Steve & Sharon!
I remeber seeing that show with the Huskers. A few of us smoked some baga before school and decided to skip out so we could see this."
Love Bob´s shades!
"We want all of you to come with"
Who gives a fuck if they were gay, or not?! I could care less. They were a devastatingly awesome, KICK-ass band. Great video... so surreal. Those housewives didn't know what hit them!
I have a feeling they turned it up to 11 for this.
Me too, well, I didn't watch it but I'd probably pass it by trying to find Transformers. It makes a cameo in the movie Fargo.
Surreal
@elwyn5150 way cool. Thanks for that. I wouldnt have picked him.
Kick ass
Jesus christ that kickoff at :44 is HEAVY
3 people wanted to hear Lawrence Welk
@carsonkit
That is soooooo cool! Yer lucky! Bad ass!
Bob's got a John Belushi thing going.
That is hilarious. If you get a kick out of clueless square interviewers you should check out the The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder Punk & New Wave DVD.
Very cool! Did you ever find the full performances?
Haha, he mentioned Philadelphia. Most bands like Philly cause they're pretty open to everything. You can't go to a concert and hear boos there, no matter how bad it is.
is he saying "replacements" right at the end?
1:41
grant hart is the keith moon of indie rock
Both good
For being a noontime local talkshow guy, the host asked decent questions (until he got off on the 'riots' thing), and Bob gave fairly candid, straightforward answers. But, yes, it's bizarre Husker Du would be booked to a noontime talk show, right after the noon news, just before "As The World Turns."
@sleakitweasel That's brilliant. Your mum has great taste in music. Mine is sixty seven and likes Johnny Mathis. Unfortunately.
Don't tell me that you didn't record The Mats on SNL! Gotta have that!
Full tilt!
Don't know Big Dipper, no. Will check 'em out. What I do know is that Jon Savage's book 'England's Dreaming' does a pretty good job of defining what punk was about. And it certainly wasn't about skateboards &
putting a safety pin through your nose....
I am sorry. At the end of that clip is that dude dressed like a matador introducing the Replacements??? That would have been the most awesome day time televsion show EVER!!!
KSTP Channel 5!
@Gurrier Steve Adelman! A MN hero!
Seriously did Bob use an attenuator or what?
I find all of these mainstream studio appearances just so cringeworthy. These guys were put in a terrible position by Warner Brothers.
Uhh, yeah. Isn't it ironic, don't you think? Nice to see you stray away from the Poison videos.
Was that Harry Dean Stanton introducing The Replacements at the tail end of this video?
What does twin cities area mean
Not incongrueous at all. Welcome to Minnesota. It was all perfectly normal. Lifelong resident of MPLS. Show had a HUGE teenage following and often featured music acts...right along with cooking segments. Again, very normal northern life.
The housewives are still here on RUclips still horrified and uptight and posting about the band being gay - - -
What are they doing there......?
!!!!!!!!!
@kompooot nah....im not into hardcore :)
no pee sipping on TV anymore ,(
Naw... Good Company is a total local kitch-fest for these guys. They probably did it so the grandparents could see them play.
@carsonkit a lot of others and I would love to see those vids if you have them. Please post them or msg me!
That's his real nose.
where's the whole performance?
@Monchi2006 No, only Bob Mould and the drummer were gay, the bassist is not (believe it or not) and they were never pedophiles.
Who gives a fuck if they were gay, or not?! I could care less. They were a devastatingly awesome, KICK-ass band.
I'd like to know what is your definition of "radical punk rock", PeiceofMindmusic? Public Image Limited or NOFX? I suspect the latter...
"Minnesota-nice"? That's a load of balls. This show wasn't "nice" enough to support Husker Du for the previous seven years when they were signed to Reflex and SST and were struggling. No, they only support them when Warner Bros. demands it.
Not too much. :(
Which school?
Check my videos...it is up!
You can lead housewives to punk. But can you make em drink?
Holy shit.. it's the short bus version of blue oyster cult!
Bob Saget is in Husker Du????
the Huskers were one of the greatest bands of all time...but their 80's clothes (and Grant's hairdo)really suck!!
Eh, he's a typical host - no worse than the usual. Clueless, that's all.
I am sorry. At the end of that clip is that dude dressed like a matador introducing the Replacements??? That would have been the most awesome day time televsion show EVER!!!
