Hi David! Love this video, thank you for organizing it! You should also do an extended one with his explanation. Although I don't speak Japanese, would love to hear him with subtitles. Thank you for having Koji on and for featuring Takumi! Interesting perspective on things like steering. Because as an offroader who also travels, road fatigue is a real thing which is why I prefer modern tech in my 4x4. The loss of the LC300 being replaced with the Prado in NA is such a disappointment, I think we will see a lot of the front ends of these GX be hacked in half for offroading.
Not sure why you don’t show the entire video with the chief engineer explaining in his own words and then you translate! After all the chief engineer deserves all the respect for his great work.
David - You are the first to mention crash test information. It is February 2, 2024. Since this new GX550 was unveiled Summer of 2023, the primary interest I have is how the Chief Engineer is satisfied with survivability in various crash scenarios. PLEASE, say more about this aspect of design decisions and what measures are baked into the platform and height and size of passenger compartment. With the purposeful reduction of the space in front of and behind the front and rear wheels, did Lexus find engineering improvements to protect passengers? I love your knowledge and personal energy about GX. I drive a green 2008 LC 200 and have waited for this GX550 hoping that the newest safety sense 3.0 and designs will continue to make these vehicles safer and safer.
I considered buying a 2023 GX 460 luxury edition with an offroad package, but California dealers only offer $2k to $4k discounts on them. I will wait for the LX 550.
This was great. I’ve learned more about the 250 and platform in nine minutes than months of videos and articles by automotive journalists parroting Toyota’s marketing info… well done and thanks for sharing info that matters. I’d still like to know about the engineering side of things on each vehicle. E.g. what is the target service life… improvements in key mechanical/structural areas compared to the last gen(s)… and differences between the actual models (ie if the architecture is so similar what would compel me to opt for a 300 over a sequoia… 250 over a T4R)
David, unfortunately the automobile market is targeting 20% or maybe a smaller cosumer group. Im pretty sure moore than 70% of us can't afford $70 thousands plus cars/trucks now days.
David thanks for the Q&A. Can you please find out about the windshield design, shape and installation. Based on feedback from recent auto journalists that spoke to Koji, it seems that the windshield is prone to cracking due to the rectangular shape vs a curved windshield. Koji ignored the question or did not seem to care. Can we please find out more about this
Still loving my older gx but definitely will be upgrading to the new platform at some point. I like the styling of the gx over the lx but both are great vehicles.
Thank you David-san. lots of great info. Like you, i also have a 23 GX which i love. i am exploring the possibility of retrofitting the GX550’s EPS onto the GX460. As far as you know, are the steering components on the GX550 identical to the Tundra & Sequoia?
Back when the 300 series was unveiled it was said the platform was made for the 300-series first then other models. Did the chief engineer communicate that to you?
Question, why is the chassis not galvanised, or what effort has been put into corrosion protection on the chassis? In UK, gritted/salt on roads eats away at underbody and sadly can become MoT failures quite quickly requiring welding. Great car though, excellent engineering, I'd love one from new!
I recently watched the Nissan Armada review you did. I am trying to decide between the Armada and the GX550. What are your thoughts and your preference be?
Lexus sold over 30k GX460s last year. So where does the sales of the GX go from here? I think it will settle in at 50-60k for years to come. This will be a huge hit in the market. BMW sells over 70k X5 models, for about the same price as the GX. This isn't a car-based crossover, so ti will lose a little, butthis will grow the brand. Lexus was the #3 luxury car brand last year, after Tesla and BMW
Great video, please tell them to add either leather or stitching to the dash. For a luxury car its really missing this touch. Its too plasticky on the dash. Otherwise the layout is great
I’ll wait a few more years to consider the new GX 550. I got a ‘23 GX 460 Luxury with a Sport Design Package and MTS camera. Each time I get in the car I am looking forward to the next drive. The smooth V8 is perfect. I know it was overbuilt and over engineered unlike the newer Lexus models.
David, It is nice to have Koji Tsukasaki on the channel. Unlike TFL, you don't need a translator to speak with a Japanese engineer. 😁
At 1:52 I’ve already learned more about this platform than in any TFL video
Two devotees able to respectfully admire the engineering with respect for each other is such an enlightening watch .
The new GX is worth the wait
Kudos to Lexus GX development team 🙌
1. Rust susceptibility.
2. Engine longevity.
David, please discuss these two important issues.
it will last you forever, it's a Toyota
If you take care of it

Would have enjoyed hearing you speak Japanese with Kojisan!
Ya. Feel like he didn’t have to FF it. I woulda enjoyed that.
This is awesome, David! I like these engineer interviews. 👍

I agree, and driving a safe vehicle should be a top priority.
Great! I hope you enjoyed your time in Arizona with the new GX. My home!
Look like the Tucson area or maybe Scottsdale?

Please post a version with Japanese language included, also. Thank you!
Yes exactly
Excellent. Waiting for the TNGA-F 4Runner.

wow, so if i understood correctly, Tsukasaki-san was the chief of the TNGA-F platform and then he was in charge of the GX550?!
Still loving my older gx but definitely will be upgrading to the new platform at some point. I like the styling of the gx over the lx but both are great vehicles.
First time viewer - great video! Very informative convo
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you David!
Love the video. More with engineers please.
Great to have a Japanese speaking RUclipsr to be able to talk to these guys.

Would like to hear why they decided to move to a lifting trunk vs the barn door and the move of the rear mounted spare compared to the prado.

Looking for hybrid and to have a comp mode like Tesla (maintain car temperature without turn on engine)
I wished Toyota used 3.4 engine for LC250. Land Cruiser is a big name in Toyota and I believe it needs to have a big engine.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your contribution! I really appreciate it!
I recently watched the Nissan Armada review you did. I am trying to decide between the Armada and the GX550. What are your thoughts and your preference be?
Long term durability of the turbo engine.....time will tell.
appreciate this a great deal. i would like to also listen to the Japanese in normal time.

Great Video!
David- I hope you told him that your predictions one year ago about the new GX were completely accurate!
Nice job 👍

Damn its so nice

David- next time let us hear the conversation in Japanese
Thanks!
