Salt brings out the sweetness. It's a fickle beast, but the perfect amount of salt will know make anything sweet even more so.
The most common example I can think of is salt on watermelon.

I've never heard of salt on watermelon before.
This strawberry shortcake reminds me of my youth. This is the way my mother (a chef) made it, starting with a rich biscuit, I mean shortcake . I am 66 and this has taken me back! 😊😊🍓🍓😋

Made this last night and it was so good. The cornmeal in the shortcake helps cut the sweetness and adds some heartiness. I overworked the dough after adding the heavy cream, wasn't too much of an issue. The biscuits were a little flat coming out of the oven because of it but I was still able to cut them open. Once it hit my boyfriends lips he didn't speak until he was finished, exclaiming "10/10." Only thing I think could be improved on is the strawberry and whipped cream to biscuit ratio. That's personal preference though and I loaded these bad boys up. Definitely worth making at home and ridiculously easy! Only took a couple minutes to hand whip the cream with chilled bowl and whisk.

That is a delicious work of art! I have wondered how my Grandma made that! I kept trying biscuits but it’s shortbread and having part cooked strawberries and half raw strawberries! Thank you so much for teaching me this, my Grandma passed away a long time ago and I couldn’t figure it out! So many wonderful memories of that strawberry shortcake with lots of freshly made whipped cream! My Grandma was such a wonderful baker and chef! Again, thank you!

One of my favorite BA recipes ever! The biscuits are so good. I don’t cook any of the berries because I don’t love the texture of cooked strawberries but damn they’re still sooo good.
