      I’m getting off a bored out Harley sportster/ bobber...
      Want something lighter , better brakes and safer to ride through corners
      What’s your opinions ?

    I don’t understand why you bike reviewers complain about bike ergonomics when you’ve had it from 9 am to 4 pm. I’ve got four bikes. I rotate them when I go for a ride. Each bike requires at least three days to get the body fit to ride them. Once you achieve this fitness to ride level you then “fit and feel” the bike. No more aches and pains. It’s an irrelevant comment to criticise a bikes ergonomics on a day out ride. My opinion folks, thank for the opportunity.

      I reckon you are right. Never ridden a bike I couldn't ride all day after adjusting to it. Hell, after years of doing multi hour bicycle rides on a road bike with a seat higher than the handlebars, every motorcycle feels like a couch to me. I think they just want something to complain about because bikes are good enough now that you have to stretch to criticize them.

      Ronald White I think it’s because we generally only do 150 miles on the launch, and for many owners - not you obviously - 150 miles a week on a bike like this might be all they do. Some will have the tourer for touring, the hacker for hacking and so on. If we didn’t mention it though, folk would be the first to call us out after getting a stiff back after a B-road blast!

      You've either never spent four or more hours on a Thruxton-R, or your bum has way more padding than mine. These things feel like riding an ergonomic practitioner's torture implement after two hours and you have to keep finding excuses to stop. They're fun to ride, but far from a comfortable cruiser, and are the least comfortably seated bike I've ever owned. Oh, and I've ridden it at least twice a day for over three years.

    Never been a fan of the triumph bikes in terms of looks but this one is changing my mind. I'm really digging the look and the paint scheme. Can't wait to go demo one

    Nice review & really like the bike, especially with race kit on. Looks amazing & 100 bhp is ample for the road. It's on the list.....of bikes I want but can't afford lol!

    Thanx for the review, I liked it. The bike seems incredible good to ride and is beautiful. Only thing is the price. In Sweden this bike cost app. 12.000 British pounds and in Denmark where I live, the cost is 28.500 British pounds. WTF.....

      @@visordown that may be true since your facial expression was similar between the two instances. :D
      On the other hand on that occasion you were also stuck with the representative of Triumph motorcycles(i think it was the new tiger 800) whereas here you were finding your own flow. Thank you for the great scoop on the new bike!

    Great review! Sweet bike. I'd only change one thing...lose the spoke wheels and put retro styled alloy wheels. I've had my fill of cleaning spoke wheels...

    If it's going to be a real Cafe racer it has to come with a handlebar /bikini fairing or at least as an option. I've had one on my bike now for a few months for wind protection and couldn't imagine riding without one. Triumph have made some good ones in recent times.

    Question. So I’ve been riding a HD Road King Special for a few years and looking to get a second bike that’s lighter and has more sporty handling. Narrowed it down to Triumph as a brand, but trying to decide between a Speed Twin, Thruxton RS, and Speed Triple 1200 RR/RS. Was able to test ride the Speed Twin and Triple, but not the Thruxton yet. Is a Thruxton a blend of the two bikes I drove? What would you suggest of the bikes I listed for spirited weekend riding through the mountains?

    NOT worth the extra money
    Go with the r. You absolutely won’t be disappointed and you’ll save yourself a ton of cash .

    Seriously, you are the first person in 4 years of listening to reviews or reading reviews that has ever said a thing negative about the brakes. Its weird. In fact, the one thing every reviewer said was the brembo brakes were one of the best, if not the most outstanding feature the "R" version had over other bikes. It seems someone told you to sell during your review because this bike has very little more than my 2018. It would be a total throw away of money for someone to upgrade from a 2018 based on the minor improvements. (not to mention horrible color scheme of the new one)

      jay etheredge totally agree. I had the pleasure of using one for 3 days during the GONE ARE THE DAYS video shoot for Grand Slam. It would stop on a sixpence and still give you change. Loved it.

      I own a 2016 R and the brakes are without a doubt an issue. The front brake almost goes to the bar on the first pull and then it’s ok on the second pull. Very eye opening when it happens. This is a known issue and triumph continues to ignore it. I’d be thrilled if the RS is better.

      @@jackleonard2088 Yes, there is an issue that is known to happen down the road on a used TTR. This is not the case normally and it can be fixed. To say out of the gate this is the case comparing a new RS and the previous version R is just false. Whos to say you won't have the same issue down the road with the RS? Furthermore, everyone that complains about this issue on the groups fix this issue. I have 9k (miles) on my 2018 that was a Ant man movie bike I bought with 3 miles on it and I haven't had the issue. Hoping that the issue is fixed but if I have that issue with mine, I will replace or upgrade the master cylinder in a heartbeat rather than buy a new bike. I have money in the bank, I make pretty good money as well but I don't know where this guy was raised that its no big deal to arbitrarily throw $10k away on a trade in for a new model because of the few made up improvements.

      jay etheredge most other journos I’ve spoken to also found the brakes lacking - hence why Triumph have updated them.

      @@visordown Its funny, I didn't buy a TTR till aug. 2018, but I watched video reviews non stop for the 2 years prior and never, and I mean never saw that come out from a "journo" . My brother is a retired knee dragger and sells TTRS and while he never once mentioned the brakes are lacking, I'm sure he would agree with you if it sold a new bike :) Mentioned your video on one of the larger groups and one guy agreed with you but of course he's one of the guys who has experienced the brake issue where it takes a could pulls to get it to "pump up". During the discussion, we found you could buy the upgrade for $500 usd. Thats a damn site cheaper than trading the bike in and loosing $10k. Just an FYI, most TTR owners work for a living, and aren't in the UK where you can lease a new bike every couple years.

    Makes me impatient for the eventual Speed Twin RS. I only hope Triumph don't make us wait to get through an R version first. Currently on a Speed Triple S but could well be tempted onto a Twin once Triumph fix the throttle snatch.

      Daulton Grothaus it’d be a big jump but one you’d probably end up happy with. If you’re a fan of the Speed Trip’s too end, high speed and superbike-scaring handling though, even the Thruxton RS might be a bit of a step down.
      What year Speed Triple do you own?

      I’ve got a 2015 Speed R. You make a valid point though, here in the Colorado twisties (Pikes Peak under an hour away), the way the Triple munches mountain miles is incredible. So the Thruxton RS may be better to have as a second bike then?

      I got a 2016 thruxton R and love it, except for the rear twin shock suspension. It gets pretty dicy and steps out on on bumpy twisty roads, a single mono shock rear bike has a major advantage in this area, but the thruxton has bags of character and is a real soul stirring machine. Triumph should have gotten serious tho and brought out a single mono shock rear and still have kept the rest of its character, but it is what it is.

    Dropped from production now sadly but why did they stop the original ice silver metallic gloss colour with that glorious looking chrome Triumph script on the tank and those aluminium engine casings and wheels and the beautiful double red stitching on the saddle. like on my 2016 R model. That paint scheme on the RS looks messy and badly thought out and I hate that T sticker on the tank and the blacked out wheels and engine casings.

    On an otherwise aesthetically pleasing piece of rolling art, why did Triumph not eliminate the tank’s ugly pinch-weld? They hid the “tin toy” seam on the T120 scramblers and the Rocket 3, as have other manufacturers on select retro models. Many of the original Triumphs (and BSA, Ariel, Matchless, etc.) upon which these classic renditions are based never had exposed pinch-welds, and those that did were often ground and hammered out.

    Euro 5 changes mean this must now have wide-band O2 sensors. That means a whole new setup in the ECU, and none of the existing tuning equipment will work with it. The existing PCV may work fine so long as they haven't changed the crank-senor signal, but TuneECU will probably be back to scratch, severely limiting tuning and engine modification options. Bummer.

    Do you really cant turn ABS off? At least on R you can, before ignition you have to scroll through settings.

      I was told it’s due to regulations. Same as you can’t in the Street Triple RS.

    Does the back still have a nissin unit instead if brembo like the R? If so any better in the rear? I noticed the TFC gor brembo all around. Also are the showas in the front the same as the r? Or better spec? If I'm not mistaken the TFC has ohlins all around.

    Definitely a good looking bike, even though I'm not really a huge fan of retro models. Is the difference between the Brembo M4s and M50s really that huge?

      Joric78 For me, yes. It is worth noting the master cylinders are different too which no doubt helps. Initial bite is increased, feel is better and zero brake fade. All that with a lighter, nicer feeling lever.

    What are the differences between this engine and the Speed Twin 1200 engine?

      johnktm950 tuning mainly. This has hot cams and a specific tune. Expect the eventual Speed Twin R (or RS) to share something like this set up.

      @@visordown I understand that it is difficult to give a good review after just a short test ride. However, I think that making a shorter sort of introduction to the bike could be the solution. You can always post a full review after you have made your conclusion about the bike in question. Just saying, not running you down, I couldn't do a review for a million £ and I do understand that it is not always easy pleasing most of us. Just take my comment as a positive comment please. ;)

      Soprano this new clutch is very light - feels about 40% lighter than the old clutch.
