yall THIRSTY for some Avriel Kaplan LMAO but bois I don't blame you. *whew* I have seen this man perform live (with PTX) and he is NO. JOKE. this vid was only a small taste of his vocal power. I am such a huge, huge fan of him; not only is he one of the most talented vocalists I've ever heard, but he's one of the sweetest, kindest, most beautiful humans on the planet, and I really believe that's audible in his singing. I can't tell you how happy I am to see you watch his video (for some reason I didn't catch that you did this!), he needs a lot more recognition.
I usually don't request things on reaction channels, but I think you guys would really like the cover of "Black Is the Color of My True Love's Hair" that Avi did as a duet with Peter Hollens. I've seen so many first reactions to this song by now, and what they all have in common is the way people experience it. First, the surprise by hearing his voice, second, the moment the song reached their chest, and third, the inability to sit still any longer. Their bodies just MUST move to the rhythm. Conclusion;, when Avi calls with his wonderful, hypnotic voice, everyone will follow him. WOW
I feel you, Zak! I see it more like the anthem for a militia. Picture people stepping out of their homes, armed and ready for war. All walks of life. Old, young, black, white, men, women.... Converging onto the street, all walking into battle..... Cities, suburbs, mountains, etc....all joining together to fight the good fight. Ahh, gives me chills!
This is the first time I’ve seen your reactions,and I really enjoyed this one. New sub! Please react to more of Avi’s solo music. It’s all beautiful, and no two songs sound the same. And if you choose to react to a Pentatonix song, I recommend their cover of Imagine. It is stunning, and it’s so appropriate for this troubled time.
The song has similar vibes to old mining songs. When I hear it I just think about mountains for some reason.
Interesting comment. He was raised in the Sierra Nevadas close to the Sequoia National Forest and still spends time there. Several of his videos were filmed there.
A very underrated group is HelloVenus. One of my favorite kpop songs is by them. Its called Wiggle Wiggle. Its awesome

Let me first say I do not know anything about any of you so I am coming to this cold: I was fascinated as I watched your reactions. I believe I saw a few emotions I expect you did not count on when you decided to react to this. Let me see: I think I saw someone who was perhaps raised in a southern church environment and recognized the emotional pull of the chanting feel of this piece. I am pretty sure I saw a response to the call to action that this 'change' was calling for in those of you who know change is needed and feel, when hearing this anthem, that perhaps it is on the horizon. I know beyond a doubt that all of you had chills at some point, and perhaps had to suppress the urge to shed tears. You are not alone. I was intensely touched and at the same time, disturbed by this performance. It is an anthem for the ages. Not sure Avi had that in mind when he composed and performed this, but he may have given us our marching orders. I feel the change. Don't ya'll?
Peter Hollins and Avi Kaplan's version of Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair is fantastic. It really gives you a chance to hear Avi's true basso profundo.

Avi has released several more singles since this one and has started touring.
These songs are turning out to be a concept album. Every single song came out of his struggles and his aim to always keep hoping things would get better.
They are not dark but they gently touch broken places in people and the music is composed to set a mood of strength or hope.
This body of work is turning out to be powerful in it's scope, & it has taken a bit for me to realize that.
I'm totally loving Avi's serial killer Jesus look that he has going on. Lol
What genre of music is this? I'm so happy he gets to do what he wants to do, love you Avi.
He talks about it being a type of Americana although most people feel he is re defining that classification. It is influenced by very early American music gospel, blues, folk, etc. His influences are Iron and Wine, Crosby Stilles Nash and Young, and many others whos work is as much personal storytelling as it is music.
@@Lookinforrealmusic this is a great description, and I agree. his work is very much a mashup of homegrown American sounds from the '20s through '60s. since I grew up listening to a lot of that stuff, his solo work is just enchanting to me; I think his unique, powerful voice brings new dimensions to familiar territory.
and @ the OP: I'm so, so proud of him, too, and love him always. it's forever a comfort to know he chose to take care of himself. I feel like I don't have to worry for him because his priorities are in the right places. 💕 I was very privileged to get to see him perform with PTX!

First, This was my first video with you all, I subbed and Liked! Not sure if your page is political, so apologize in advance, BUT: I feel like while I was watching the recent BLM marches, I kept feeling like this song should have been playing. Or the next Pride march I am we should play this. And although I can not attest to what Avi was thinking when he wrote this, I feel like it is an indictment on our current president and this is saying there is a change on the rise this coming November. PTX turned down every song ideal that he brought to the group. They told him it was too personal for him or it wasn't "poppy" enough. This was the first song after leaving the group(because of his contract he had to wait 2 years)
