They also do some amazing harmonizing. When this stupid pandemic is over, you got to go see him live. Amazing guy. Also, very easy on the eyes. Surprisingly slender frame, slightly muscular. He needs to eat more BBQ

I don't know that they felt they "couldn't do justice" to Avi's songs. His were indeed personal, but also more serious than they wanted to do. Look at the commercial, more pop-py direction they've gone in. A simple comparison is to watch and listen to the songs PTX and Avi released on the vey same day back in March 2019 - "Come Along" for them, and "Change on the Rise" for him. 180 degrees.
Avi really does justice to the story about the Underground Railroad here. It has that touch of an old time black spiritual song. It was a great song for him to do, and HE REALLY SELLS IT HERE!

Hi. Avi had quite a music background before he got to Pentatonix including classical and opera. Regarding "soul" he was in a jazz group among other singing groups and won a bunch of competitions and awards which is how Scott knew of him to ask him if he wanted to do the Sing-Off with them. You can catch him performing "Summertime" in several different appearances apart from PTX. In his new performances he does primarily all original music but he does 2 covers "Lean On Me" and "House of the Rising Son". I think you would really like his original "Aberdeen". This song is theme music for podcasts Relative Unknown and was recently featured in Resident Alien on SYFY.

You might want to look up two songs that Avi did while still with Pentatonix that are two of my favorites. 'Standing By' and 'Light In The Hallway'.
Scott wrote Light In The Hallway with Avi's voice in mind. Also checkout Run To You which Avi wrote.
