Melee Pikmin Pikmin 2 Super Monkey Ball 2 Yeah, those are all GameCube exclusives. Multiplatform has TimeSplitters, Nightfire, Gauntlet Dark Legacy, Soul Calibur II, Prince of Persia Trilogy, Viewtiful Joe, THPS, SSX 3... Also, it had the best controller of the generation. It was drastically more powerful than the PS2 and, by using Component Cables or the new GCVideo mod, it output actual 480p Progressive Scan pictures, something the PS2 couldn't even dream of.
And there is a gamecube in the first Wii version :) I have 3 gamecube, 3 Wii and 3 2DS. I buy Nintendo's Consoles x3 every time but Nintendo don't give me something (give me a Wii U, Tatsumi Kimishima !) (a Nintendo player since 1981)

This video made me think.. If the Wii U had just come with regular controllers and made the tablet an accessory, would it have worked out better? I still feel like 3rd party support wouldn't have changed much. And since 1st party games like Mario never need to be graphically intense I don't think Nintendo cared much for 3rd party games anyway when drawing up specs
***** I think it was the 3rd party games that made this thing a flop. Most of these games were already on sale for months, which makes it unnecessary to buy them for the Wii U again. Or like Mass Effect: Mass Effect 3 was out for quite a while, they release the Special Edition for Wii U, but at the same time, the ME Trilogy is on its way. No wonder why no one bought it. Same with Rayman Legends. If they had released it for Wii U early, and brought the Origins Levels with an Update, the Wii U Version would have more units sold. And ZombiU wasn´t all that good. Sadly. UPDATE: What they need to do is to buy exclusive Games from 3rd Partys. Like they did with Bayonetta 2. Make that with the next GTA or Battlefield (just timed exklusive of course) and you´ve got 10x more sales. (I´m sure it costs an awful lot of money too^^)
For me the only reason I'm not getting Wii U because I'm sick of Nintendo constantly milking the same 20 yr old IP's on their consoles. Like the usual Mario Zelda etc I'm sick of it too many games for those and many spinoffs just yuck

***** I think so too. The rather unique tech that the Wii U sported was something that developers had to utilize and keep in mind. It was too much of a specialty to design for, not to mention the additional man power, time and money that would go into a project for a gimmick that only one platformed use. It was simply a better business decision to skip it all together.

Captian Lester Yeah, the GameCube had some really awesome games. It was still in that era where developers were still figuring out different mechanics and control schemes for 3D games. These days, games of a similar genre all tend to feel the same with the same mechanics and controls.
I honestly want a Dreamcast 2 and a bundle of SA1, SA2 and the elusive SA3 on it. And also, as crazy as it sounds, Sonic Shuffle too (maybe that bundled with a Sonic Shuffle 2 as well).
@Lord Cekrom I only put one console before Dreamcast, and that's mainly due to my nostalgia from growing up playing it in the early 90s, and that's SNES. But to me, Dreamcast is BY FAR the most innovative/ahead of its time/creative console of all time! And this is coming from someone that owned a PS2 for many years. The main reason Dreamcast failed, or couple reasons I should say, are that Sega had lost a lot of built up goodwill after what happened to the Saturn, couple that with not having a lot of third party support, and finally, not being able to play DVD's in spite of its online capabilities (which had their own issues, but that's for another time). Outside of those unfortunate issues, the machine itself was incredible, especially for 1998/99 tech. Firmly etched in my top 3 all-time consoles!

TekReview's that's why i put air quotes on "games", its not really the fact that Nintendo has games now, its the fact that Devs didn't want to bother with the wii u back when it barely came out, even i hated the wii u because the lack of games back then, and most of the games that came out where just re released for the wii u when it already came out for the Xbox 360 and ps3. Right now Nintendo games are the only thing that is saving the console, people buy Nintendo for Nintendo, not really for third party games.

Honestly I feel bad for Nintendo on how the WiiU failed, mostly for people being judgmental and not giving it chance. Though the downsides are reasonable for disliking, the same can be about the Xbox 360, yet that did wonderful. I honestly just wish that people have the WiiU a chance.

Ikr, I was young when the Wii U came out, and the only thing I wanted in the world is a Wii U. Then, a couple weeks ago I found out that everyone hated the Wii U, and I was very sad D:. It truly is a great console!

The Wii U was just marketed too badly, and by the time many people realized it was a proper console, the system lacked too much 3rd party and had weaker graphics. The Wii U had too many disadvantages thrown to it. Of course, for the Vita, it was just Sony being stupid. Making proprietary memory cards, not having backwards compatibility and not having enough games at launch kinda killed it. Plus, at the time of launch, it was over $250 and when you added the $60 memory you had to buy, it became $310. More expensive than the PS2 at the time and not much cheaper than a PS3 (heck, it was possible to get a PS3 cheaper than the Vita at the time) and wasn't much of a steal compared to the PS4's $399 price. And while the Vita had stuff other than games, they were done better by smartphones people already had. PS3 & 4 on the other hand were great media centers for when Smart TVs weren't as popular plus they had Blue Ray players.
The problem with the vita was that they under utilised the software and hardware I mean for example batman on the vita was a 2.5 d platformer instead of the games they released on the bigger consoles heck they could have done what the og psp done with assassins creed bloodlines and released a 3d spin off.
The Wii U is definetiely the most underrated console. It has so many great games. But the just because it didn't do good in sales makes people for some reason think its a bad game. The gamecube was also underrated, I loved my gamecube.

Underrated? You have clearly never played the GameCube. It is in no way underrated in the slightest. It is wildly popular to this day, that's why they brought back the controller for smash 4. Sales don't always determine how much a console is loved. The GameCube was the last good Nintendo console released, mostly due to the controller.

To this day it's one of the most beloved consoles there is. It had some of Nintedos greatest games ever! Such as Zelda Wind Waker, Twilight Princess(which sucked on Wii), Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart double dash, four swords, etc. A failure would be the Wii u. It is god awful. It was awful at launch and it still is. The only good games it has are Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, and Wind Waker HD.

They aren't even comparable cause GameCube played entirely different games than the PS2 and it functioned just fine and still looks just as good as the Wii u today. To see the Dreamcast failing broke my heart back in the day. For me it was the best console of its time with the best graphic,and the best games, and many innovations like the VMU and the internet modem.

No third party support, last gen specs, and improper naming/advertisement of the console pretty much killed the Wii U. The Wii U isn't bad, but is way behind the times. With the PS4.5/NEO and the rumored upgraded Xbox One coming out, hopefully Nintendo will have a console that is actually competitive with Microsoft and Sony.

I DEFINATELY agree with the PS Vita and Wii U being underrated. As an owner of a PS Vita myself, I absolutely LOVE it! It's a really good portable for games such as Minecraft (as mentioned) on the go. Of course there are a lot more great Vita games that you can try out too! Wii U however, I don't own, but I want it due to games I love, such as Smash Bros, Pokémon games (Pokken Tournament), etc.
Not to sound like a fanboy, but the Wii U is the greatest game console ever in my opinion(along with the ps2)! It has amazing games,(smash4 ,splatoon,mariokart8,hyrule warriors,pikmin 3,zombi u,etc.)an innovative gamepad controller(along with the Xbox like pro controller)sweet HD graphics,the best console Netflix experience and its loads of fun.I have played the ps4 and Xbox one a lot as well but the Wii U is loads more fun and is by far a greater console.If you are doubting on buying a Wii U trust me and BUY ONE RIGHT NOW!!
KingLos here's what people don't get. While the others had short life spans the GameCune ran 8 years and sold very well. It has aged well. It was my childhood and I may be nostalgia blind but it may be Nintendo's most genius plan (yes even more genius than when they revived the video game market with the NES)
I hoped you would include the first XBOX. It was released over one and a half years after the PS2, so it was out of that comptetiton. In stead, it sported massively more powerful hardware than the PS2, just look at Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - Chaos Theory's graphics on the XBOX compared to PS2. Insane difference. It also had epic exclusives, but still sold a hell of a lot less than the PS2, and many Xbox players to this date don't even know it exists. That's actually a fact.
***** It was the most powerful console of that generation. GameCube was 2nd, and PS2 was the least powerful, believe it or not! It just had the best overall library of games and that drove its sales, the golden rule of "it's all about the games." I was a huge fan of the first Xbox though and I remember it coming with a copy of Halo... the graphics and atmosphere even with the spot-on music really blew me away at the time. I was always looking for Xbox copies of games over PS2 just to try to take advantage of the graphical horsepower it had at the time, even though PS2 is one of my favorite systems of all time ;)

I'd say the Xbox was more underrated than GameCube, simply because of the lacking sales and the fact that most people forget about it, while GameCube and PS2 stays in people's memory forever. Also don't forget how worthy Sony was during PS2 era, they're able to lock down major AAA game developers to be PS2's time exclusive for over a year. Notice how PS2 GTA was released over a year before the PC or Xbox versions?

Michael Chicas the Wii U's main problem was the slow CPU, which even is slower than the 360/PS3 CPU. But had a more powerful GPU and RAM than the less powerful PS3 and Xbox 360.
Because people thought it was an add on for the wii until the switch was released. When Nintendo talked about the wii u it was only the gamepad and not the console itself. Also the trailer at e3 2011 was awful. The first controller to see was the Wii remote. If Nintendo said that the wii u was backward compatible with the wii, talked about what makes the console unique and showed the pro controller and the new games. What a great successful overrated console it will be
Also, for the Wii U, it is backwards-compatible with Wii games. When my Wii's disk drive stopped working, after 6 years, i was able to easily transfer all my data from the Wii to the Wii U and start using the Wii U as my Wii.

There may be already talk of the next system, but we still got Zelda U coming out, Xenoblade, devil's third and what not.

the game cube wasnt underrated it was stacked agianst the ps2 and xbox. I still picked up one but most people who had to choose really had little argument about the ps2 simply being the one. It had a glorious library. I still play it on my emulator it was that good of a console.

And people who could only get one of the consoles tended to choose the ps2 for its massive library. even late in its cycle the ps2 outsold the 360/ Theyre still asking for it at gamestop. What do people have against the GC controller? It looks weird and the button placement seems awful, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that using A, B, X, and Y felt as natural as on an Xbox controller.
Great video as always, but the Wii had like 5 COD games (I believe all of them the PS3 and 360 had up until Ghosts) and the Game Pad actually isn't as expensive as people claim. CNN did a write up on the cost of the WiiU over all and the Game Pad cost under $80 to build in 2012, no doubt that's way cheaper now.
That is *not* what fucked up the console. Everyone wants to blame the discs when it wasn't even a big deal at the time. The discs were a concern yes but it was the slower sales that eventually pulled 3rd parties away and they didn't pull back until the generation was pretty much over in 2005-06 with Burnout 3 not coming to the GC even though 1 & 2 did. At the time everyone (80million + ppl) was into Sony and their cheap DVD player+ Ps1 successor the Ps2 and that's it. You also had disappointed N64 owners who switched to Ps2 after witnessing their Ps1 owning friends receive wayyy more games to play. Couple that with dumbass Nintendo releasing to the American public a purple lunchbox and there you have it, "the cool console" versus the "kiddie box". Nintendo's brand image and Ps2's hype is what killed the GC way more than the discs could have ever done. Despite this though, GC still received a great amount of support, wayyy more than the 64 or the Wii U ever got, I was able to play virtually every game my Ps2 owning friends did, so it wasn't a problem at all. The GC having poor 3rd party support due to it's discs is an internet manufactured lie, exaggeration and/or stereotype. Those who owned a GC during its time (like myself), had minimal problems finding lots of games to play.
I'm so happy the Wii U is on this list. Exactly as Austin says, it wasn't a bad console, but it was severely underrated and overhated. The only reason it failed was because people simply thought it was a table accessory to the original Wii. I don't think the people who hate on the Wii U has ever tried playing one. It still has amazing games which I'd say meet the quality of current-gen PlayStation and Xbox exclusives. To this day, I'm still sad I missed out on the Wii U in its prime time. I only got one recently in 2020, and with Miiverse having shut down, and with the recent announcement of the original Super Mario Maker losing online support, I feel like my Wii U gaming experience will be quite limited.

Well done. I am happy to say I owned all those systems at one time or other. Truly great consoles. Actually one of the reasons I will never get rid of my Wii is because of the backwards compatibility with the Gamecube and the 480p video via the Wii component cable. I also love my Vita and I would have to say the EXPENSIVE Sony memory cards really hurt sales for that system. I know for me no matter how powerful phones have gotten I would take classic physical buttons over virtual controls on a smart phone any day.

Captian Lester Yeah, the GameCube had some really awesome games. It was still in that era where developers were still figuring out different mechanics and control schemes for 3D games. These days, games of a similar genre all tend to feel the same with the same mechanics and controls.

@Lord Cekrom I only put one console before Dreamcast, and that's mainly due to my nostalgia from growing up playing it in the early 90s, and that's SNES. But to me, Dreamcast is BY FAR the most innovative/ahead of its time/creative console of all time! And this is coming from someone that owned a PS2 for many years. The main reason Dreamcast failed, or couple reasons I should say, are that Sega had lost a lot of built up goodwill after what happened to the Saturn, couple that with not having a lot of third party support, and finally, not being able to play DVD's in spite of its online capabilities (which had their own issues, but that's for another time). Outside of those unfortunate issues, the machine itself was incredible, especially for 1998/99 tech. Firmly etched in my top 3 all-time consoles!

TekReview's that's why i put air quotes on "games", its not really the fact that Nintendo has games now, its the fact that Devs didn't want to bother with the wii u back when it barely came out, even i hated the wii u because the lack of games back then, and most of the games that came out where just re released for the wii u when it already came out for the Xbox 360 and ps3. Right now Nintendo games are the only thing that is saving the console, people buy Nintendo for Nintendo, not really for third party games.

Honestly I feel bad for Nintendo on how the WiiU failed, mostly for people being judgmental and not giving it chance. Though the downsides are reasonable for disliking, the same can be about the Xbox 360, yet that did wonderful. I honestly just wish that people have the WiiU a chance.
AJ Gameguy I feel the exact same way about the PS VITA… the PS Vita is such a great handheld, but the huge misconception that it has no games killed it entirely.
Ikr, I was young when the Wii U came out, and the only thing I wanted in the world is a Wii U. Then, a couple weeks ago I found out that everyone hated the Wii U, and I was very sad D:. It truly is a great console!
I loooove the Wii U!! Nintendo Switch got the idea from Wii U and Wii U is different!! I still play Nintendo Land, Mario Kart 8 and much more!! All of Nintendo Systems are great to me!!!!
The Wii U was just marketed too badly, and by the time many people realized it was a proper console, the system lacked too much 3rd party and had weaker graphics. The Wii U had too many disadvantages thrown to it.
Of course, for the Vita, it was just Sony being stupid. Making proprietary memory cards, not having backwards compatibility and not having enough games at launch kinda killed it. Plus, at the time of launch, it was over $250 and when you added the $60 memory you had to buy, it became $310. More expensive than the PS2 at the time and not much cheaper than a PS3 (heck, it was possible to get a PS3 cheaper than the Vita at the time) and wasn't much of a steal compared to the PS4's $399 price.
And while the Vita had stuff other than games, they were done better by smartphones people already had. PS3 & 4 on the other hand were great media centers for when Smart TVs weren't as popular plus they had Blue Ray players.
The problem with the vita was that they under utilised the software and hardware I mean for example batman on the vita was a 2.5 d platformer instead of the games they released on the bigger consoles heck they could have done what the og psp done with assassins creed bloodlines and released a 3d spin off.
The Wii U is definetiely the most underrated console. It has so many great games. But the just because it didn't do good in sales makes people for some reason think its a bad game.
The gamecube was also underrated, I loved my gamecube.

Underrated? You have clearly never played the GameCube. It is in no way underrated in the slightest. It is wildly popular to this day, that's why they brought back the controller for smash 4. Sales don't always determine how much a console is loved. The GameCube was the last good Nintendo console released, mostly due to the controller.

To this day it's one of the most beloved consoles there is. It had some of Nintedos greatest games ever! Such as Zelda Wind Waker, Twilight Princess(which sucked on Wii), Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart double dash, four swords, etc. A failure would be the Wii u. It is god awful. It was awful at launch and it still is. The only good games it has are Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, and Wind Waker HD.

No third party support, last gen specs, and improper naming/advertisement of the console pretty much killed the Wii U. The Wii U isn't bad, but is way behind the times. With the PS4.5/NEO and the rumored upgraded Xbox One coming out, hopefully Nintendo will have a console that is actually competitive with Microsoft and Sony.

I DEFINATELY agree with the PS Vita and Wii U being underrated. As an owner of a PS Vita myself, I absolutely LOVE it! It's a really good portable for games such as Minecraft (as mentioned) on the go. Of course there are a lot more great Vita games that you can try out too! Wii U however, I don't own, but I want it due to games I love, such as Smash Bros, Pokémon games (Pokken Tournament), etc.

KingLos here's what people don't get. While the others had short life spans the GameCune ran 8 years and sold very well. It has aged well. It was my childhood and I may be nostalgia blind but it may be Nintendo's most genius plan (yes even more genius than when they revived the video game market with the NES)

It was released over one and a half years after the PS2, so it was out of that comptetiton. In stead, it sported massively more powerful hardware than the PS2, just look at Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - Chaos Theory's graphics on the XBOX compared to PS2. Insane difference. It also had epic exclusives, but still sold a hell of a lot less than the PS2, and many Xbox players to this date don't even know it exists. That's actually a fact.
I would say that it would be an honorary #6 or #7. Fact of the matter is that the PS2 had WAY more attention than its competitors.
***** It was the most powerful console of that generation. GameCube was 2nd, and PS2 was the least powerful, believe it or not! It just had the best overall library of games and that drove its sales, the golden rule of "it's all about the games." I was a huge fan of the first Xbox though and I remember it coming with a copy of Halo... the graphics and atmosphere even with the spot-on music really blew me away at the time. I was always looking for Xbox copies of games over PS2 just to try to take advantage of the graphical horsepower it had at the time, even though PS2 is one of my favorite systems of all time ;)

Also don't forget how worthy Sony was during PS2 era, they're able to lock down major AAA game developers to be PS2's time exclusive for over a year. Notice how PS2 GTA was released over a year before the PC or Xbox versions?

Michael Chicas the Wii U's main problem was the slow CPU, which even is slower than the 360/PS3 CPU. But had a more powerful GPU and RAM than the less powerful PS3 and Xbox 360.

Because people thought it was an add on for the wii until the switch was released. When Nintendo talked about the wii u it was only the gamepad and not the console itself. Also the trailer at e3 2011 was awful. The first controller to see was the Wii remote.
If Nintendo said that the wii u was backward compatible with the wii, talked about what makes the console unique and showed the pro controller and the new games. What a great successful overrated console it will be

Also, for the Wii U, it is backwards-compatible with Wii games. When my Wii's disk drive stopped working, after 6 years, i was able to easily transfer all my data from the Wii to the Wii U and start using the Wii U as my Wii.

the game cube wasnt underrated it was stacked agianst the ps2 and xbox. I still picked up one but most people who had to choose really had little argument about the ps2 simply being the one. It had a glorious library. I still play it on my emulator it was that good of a console.

What do people have against the GC controller? It looks weird and the button placement seems awful, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that using A, B, X, and Y felt as natural as on an Xbox controller.
Great video as always, but the Wii had like 5 COD games (I believe all of them the PS3 and 360 had up until Ghosts) and the Game Pad actually isn't as expensive as people claim. CNN did a write up on the cost of the WiiU over all and the Game Pad cost under $80 to build in 2012, no doubt that's way cheaper now.

That is *not* what fucked up the console. Everyone wants to blame the discs when it wasn't even a big deal at the time.
The discs were a concern yes but it was the slower sales that eventually pulled 3rd parties away and they didn't pull back until the generation was pretty much over in 2005-06 with Burnout 3 not coming to the GC even though 1 & 2 did.
At the time everyone (80million + ppl) was into Sony and their cheap DVD player+ Ps1 successor the Ps2 and that's it. You also had disappointed N64 owners who switched to Ps2 after witnessing their Ps1 owning friends receive wayyy more games to play.
Couple that with dumbass Nintendo releasing to the American public a purple lunchbox and there you have it, "the cool console" versus the "kiddie box". Nintendo's brand image and Ps2's hype is what killed the GC way more than the discs could have ever done.
Despite this though, GC still received a great amount of support, wayyy more than the 64 or the Wii U ever got, I was able to play virtually every game my Ps2 owning friends did, so it wasn't a problem at all.
The GC having poor 3rd party support due to it's discs is an internet manufactured lie, exaggeration and/or stereotype. Those who owned a GC during its time (like myself), had minimal problems finding lots of games to play.

I'm so happy the Wii U is on this list. Exactly as Austin says, it wasn't a bad console, but it was severely underrated and overhated. The only reason it failed was because people simply thought it was a table accessory to the original Wii. I don't think the people who hate on the Wii U has ever tried playing one. It still has amazing games which I'd say meet the quality of current-gen PlayStation and Xbox exclusives. To this day, I'm still sad I missed out on the Wii U in its prime time. I only got one recently in 2020, and with Miiverse having shut down, and with the recent announcement of the original Super Mario Maker losing online support, I feel like my Wii U gaming experience will be quite limited.
The vita was the biggest scam ever like seriously. They had great games at the start but now all it is is mobile games and crappy indie games...

+RawkHawk There are still some great games that are available on the Vita like Steins;Gate, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 4: Dancing All Night, Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel, etc.

Well done. I am happy to say I owned all those systems at one time or other. Truly great consoles. Actually one of the reasons I will never get rid of my Wii is because of the backwards compatibility with the Gamecube and the 480p video via the Wii component cable. I also love my Vita and I would have to say the EXPENSIVE Sony memory cards really hurt sales for that system. I know for me no matter how powerful phones have gotten I would take classic physical buttons over virtual controls on a smart phone any day.
Still have my Gamecube, all the controllers, and all the cables but I wish I kept the OG box if I ever plan on selling it.
