You younger gamers are so lucky with just how much access you have to classic video games these days especially with emulation. Even though I had a decent amount of systems and handhelds like Master System, NES, Genesis, SNES, Gameboy, Game Gear, N64, PS1, Dreamcast and Gamecube there were tons of games that I missed. So ever since I graduated high school in 2001, sure I still get the new systems as they come out from time to time like the Wii, Wii U, Switch, and so forth to play the latest games but the overwhelming majority of my time I spend with classic games in an effort to catch up and play all those games that I missed growing up. I'm proud to say I've played every game listed in this video except for Time Splitters and Spriggan which with that one in particular I will get to now that I've been reminded about it. What's also crazy is I remember when a lot of these games were brand new and I played Nights Into Dreams at Toys R Us in the mid 90s, I played Ninja Gaiden on Xbox 1, I used to play the port of Sonic CD for Windows 95, and I remember when Megaman 8 came out we were blown away with the Anime cut scenes and how much animation was packed into the game. 😄

Get an ODE or PSK cart. There are so many fantastic fan translations, if you already have the console, you are only a short step away from being able to access a much larger library of games.
PSK is probably cheapest, but you need the ability to burn CDs. Satiator is the most expensive, but you can just plug it in and load an SD card with games. There are options in between, but you’ll need to open up the console.

A lot of people want to immediately assume I hate all things PlayStation (which is BS considering I own a PS5,) but I absolutely LOVED the PSP. I would say the same thing about the Vita because it was a very capable handheld. The problem was that Sony neglected it and its fans. Even when they released the PlayStation TV (which was basically a console-ized PS Vita) it got no support at all from Sony. Thankfully the hacking and modding community turned that around.

I was late to the xbox party, getting one in 2003, but it quickly became the most played console in the house and took the 10-year long crown from Nintendo.
The problem is how difficult the xbox is to emulate, and the consoles themselves are extremely prone to wear. Even if you get your hands on a working OG xbox, it's only a matter of time until major hardware failure that, while usually fixable, is fairly involved. There are several classic xbox games I've been dying to play but have been unable to. Even the 360 only has around 60% reverse compatability

The Japanese PC Engine Duo R was something I've wanted for ever and just imported one for my upcoming 49 birthday (thanks wife) and I already know I'll love it. Most of the library seems like it's all me. As far as the Sega CD. That's a different story. Two things to add:
    1. PC Engine/Turbografx also has some great RPG (turn based and action) that have exclusives or exclusive versions (or the best ones) such as D&D Order of the Griffon, Legend of Heroes: Dragon Slayer, and YS 1-3 and a fan translated/full voice acted version of YS 4 you can play from a burned disk or on an emulator/Raspberry Pie.
    2. Thank you, for including Sega CD. One of my all time favorites. There is one other aspect to it's game library that is overlooked. It has updated, exclusive ports of PC games such as Rise of the Dragon, D&D Eye of the Beholder, The Secret of Monkeys Island and Wing Commander! And most of those (maybe all as I'm not sure of Wing Commander) can be used with the Mega Mouse a 3 button mouse for more accurate and PC like experience on Sega's add on.
So basically, if you're a nerd who likes old school RPGs and PC games the PC Engine/Turbografx and Sega CD are perfect for you. 😉😆

Another great video. As you hinted in the last minute, the Sega Master System (IMO) doesn't get the credit it deserves. However, with the price and scarcity of games, it appears that the community knows what it offers and hordes those titles. Although I am lucky to own an original console and more than a handful of games considered to be gems for the system, building my existing collection is proving very difficult. (only if I would be able to find a CIB of Master OF Darkness!)
    Cheers,
    Brent

Neo Geo is my unsung fave. Sure the system has clout amongst collectors, but most average consumers have either never heard of it or just associate it with the glut of 1v1 fighting games. And while the library doesn't have a balanced variety there are other games totally worth your time. Original hardware is ridiculously priced so EMU or mini consoles is the way to go.

Then there was no AV out. We read about PC Engine games in Japan but it was impossible to figure out the add ons and what was required to play certain games. The US didn't get much of the library. It's a great system but was so confusing to work out back then.

While I do have a Sega CD and 32x attached to my Genesis... but I appreciate the 32x more for the super scaler games it has, which being in cart form don't suffer load time delays. Those Sega CD games which are the FMV variant look awful on a LCD and are annoying to play if you're seriously trying to complete them. I've got games for it, but I don't use it often.
I regret not having a N64 though, because part of me REALLY wants to play Xena Warrior Princess the fighting game again. I've fond memories of that game and how I loved the Xena + Hercules TV shows of the time!!!

I'd mention Wonderswan and Wonderswan color (made by the same person who created the original gameboy). Technically superior to the original gameboy, but unfortunately it's Japan-only, so the good games have the problem of the language barrier and the catalogue isn't as good as the Nintendo handheld, still technically impressive and still has good games. You can also find fan-translations of the games, so check it out.
Neo Geo Pocket/Neo Geo Pocket Color. Impressive consoles (although the original one only has 10 games, rn I'm gonna talk about the coloured version). As an SNK fan I found a gold mine in these consoles. You even have an exclusive Sonic game, chibi versions of fighting games, 2 metal slug prequels and the crossover between Capcom and SNK.
Sg-1000 and Master System. Simply the NES versions of SEGA but in the case of SMS, superior technically speaking and with such a good exclusives none talks about since the console died very soon in Japan and in the USA, but was somewhat popular in Europe and a massive hit in Brazil.
Game Gear: Master System Portable but with exclusives that deserve to be played.
