perhaps the real mystery city was the friends we made along the way in all seriousness, this find is cool as hell, props to you and xanvier for discovering this after so many years
Well mystery city in the sense people thing was that ps2/x360 demo map. Thing is that it never was a thing, it was hastily cobbled together alternate map that wouldninclude few tracks they could squeeze into tiny demo file, and wouldnt need to butcher palmont like they did Camden for MW05 demo. They wanted to show main selling points, Canyons, drifts, boss race and territorial control and they had to make sanjuan, drift track and sanjuan to to fit into one area to make this little narrative. So they took bits if palmont the canyon and sj salazar street bit and slapped it all together so it looks like a convincing map for a city. And it was convincing enough for us as kids to believe it was beta city for Carbon, even tho canyon doesnt make sense in it, being both too tiny and well completely wrong in regards of Look out points scenery, dont mind the city...water is on the wrong side if it xD
Yeah, its incredibly early too, it has bits that were changed completely or removed, or dont exist yet(like Chinatown). I think it was made for testing of the roads they planned, to see how it plays and then tweaked and changed the road model until it was like in final game. Other two seems like even less developed layouts for Silverton and Fortuna.
@@RandomCarfromNFS It wasnt, it's a new finding. Especially since it was limited to X360 Asian version of Carbon. It's great insight in now they worked on the map very early on, given Downtown layout seen here.

Just not one every one wanted to see in 2014 xD. Its still very interesting, its incredibly early layout for downtown and most likely fortuna and silverton unless these 2 other bits are just some random doodles to test handling on.
@@mayoral90s38 It is a test map eitherway. They might be checking how design of scenery might be going or strictly how given layout is playing out. That is the point given especially how early this Downtown layout is, and its time for tweaks still ie, moving the street models around before they start to decorate it with buildings and art pass it, because at that point its impossible to make big changes without excess amounts of effort reworking it.
There was another unused track, named *(5500) Coastal Relight,* seen in carbon globalb, shame that those track files for 5500 Coastal Relight were likely lost.
Somehow this makes me feel like that demo map of early palmont that everyone says is temp has more credence. There feels like there's an attempt to link a very vertical twisty design straight into an urban core type-beat that that temp map had. I wouldn't be surprised if there's more weird collision stuff implying more road designs. Especially if there could be a way to somehow port these tracks over to pc for more examination. If not that, the fear of driving into a void and crashing the game probably gave the devs the idea of the canyons. This is a god-tier level find. Man, I love the beta Carbon and Carbon theories communities. There's always cool stuff in game dev. Awesome find.
In my opinion, I think they were trying to go for a modern and realistic look so I could understand why they changed it to be less curvy and fantasy-ish, otherwise Carbon would have looked like it was stuck in the 90s.
This map gives me the vibes of the concept map (A.K.A Mystery City map) for sure, especially the way in some places are so close to each other, while in other places are quite distant, same thing with the wide roads becoming small roads (like in 6:25) and the way some roads just go into the same direction and location as other ones. Could be this an insanely early version of that map?
another thing i've noticed is that in the final map, lamp flares are all either cool white or a slightly warm white, while these flares are so warm they're yellow
24:24 a very, very early Fortuna draft? 12:05 possible canyon test linked to the city/very early Silverton? Really interesting findings, thank you for sharing it with everyone. I hope there's more of it
Canyons were never ever connected, they didnt plan for it. If they did it would need to be just like Bayview with Jackson heights. Canyons are close but not close enough for straight up connection, plus they didnt really think through scenery entirely its semi-inconsisted between various routes, some clash together on same scenery(souther canyons likenknifes edge or cooper ridge and goldvalleyrun). @@gainutdinoff9755 Yes but Undercover makes me sad with how whole game is unfinished. They also cut a chunk of gold coast mountains that connected to Sunset hills. Its still visible or region map. Remnant of the connector is in the scenery where it would connect up.
Fantastic work Felipe. One of your biggest discoveries yet! I always enjoy seeing the hidden content you dig up. It would be amazing if some people restored this to PC, started connecting roads up and added more buildings to make this polished. It might even be easier to build a new city from scratch than to fix this one though. First, I'd like to see collision data placed for the NFS World connector roads, then if the canyon tracks can be loaded back in up north of the map, you could have an NFS World map that you could still have canyons on. As of now in NFSCO, (or should I say the most recent public build which was World 2 Carbon) it uses the World map which doesn't have canyons, so you cannot complete the career mode while having the World map loaded. I suspect putting the canyons, San Juan and the drift course back into the World map would be easier than building collision data for the unfinished connector roads, as the former has collision data and doesn't overlap with anything if the two maps exist simultaneously. It's possibly as simple as "layer 1" Carbon, "layer 2" World, and then cropping out the Palmont part of "layer 1". It's also easier said than done, but maybe someone with all the knowledge on how the 3D modeling works will be able to do it someday. If that is able to be accomplished, then maybe Tri-City could be loaded in south of the Rockport Turnpike as World originally intended. I have no idea how difficult this is or if it is possible at all, perhaps Carbon's engine could not handle that many chunks, but the game engines are similar as have been shown for Most Wanted, Carbon, ProStreet, Undercover and World. Obviously this is asking a lot, but it is fun to dream about and maybe that will one day be a reality. I made my first MW and Carbon mods today. A simple texture swap for the police cars. Rockport PD in Carbon and Palmont PD in Rockport. Intended for use with the Rockport 1.0 for Carbon and Palmont 1.0 for Most Wanted mods respectively. Hopefully they we be approved on nfsmods soon. With how long we've been able to load maps from the other games, I was surprised that texture swap had not been done yet for all of the vehicles.

eventually when the map tools get released for nfs carbon, has anyone in the community talked about getting these maps completed/detailed? would be interesting.
Well its not present because it would make the demo to heavy to fit on the CD. This is the main reason they made tha weird "mystery city" map instead and put san juan track, bit meant to be the drift course and lookoutpoint right next to each other so you can take them over and have a boss race in canyon. And those things were main ones they wanted to showcase, since drifting was missing in Most Wanted and canyons were new hot thing, chopping palmont to bits to show territory control was not the best way to go. That map in the demo is also mostly chopped up bits of Palmont, put all around the area you are taking over, being another reason why it looks so messy.

it's more extremely form of test map. final road layout was already planned by 2005 (what we have the earliest is screenshots from very early map that were seen in bonus disc videos; presumably mid-2005)
ooo if only the uc test tracks were also in some console release
mate I was trying to experiment with the nfs world map but it is somewhat complicated because I mean I try to get the location of San Juan and the canyons and try to edit the map so that San Juan and the canyons can be seen on it and make paths and that
Why does it look like every single track was rushed in the making, and then thrown in the junk.
We could've honestly got much more than what the original game currently has, and perhaps the game might've been even longer than just 4 territories and 4 boss canyon races.
Cause it was rushed, essentially.
fill in the blanks city
Is the audi le mans quattro used in the intro a mod? The exhaust position is in the middle
Amazing video! Also is it possible to access these areas using the out of bounds glitch?
No, those files exist only in the Asian X360 release
@379Felipe would it be possible to port them over to PC?
@@cheetah_5314 it probably would, but question is why. They serve no purpose other than for selected few, like you or me to explore. Wouldn't mind having a mod download, but I can't see anyone willing to put effort into porting such thing

Felipe, vc sabe me dizer se já foi vazado em algum canto a demo de nfsc de ps3 que a IGN fez um video?
Não foi vazado em lugar algum infelizmente
@@379Felipe Entendi. E sobre um protótipo de 2006 do Xbox 360? Descobriu alguma coisa através dele?
5400 is likely different than Final Palmont and an demo palmont (which was made only in demo or in 2005 (there is no way that demo palmont city map was made in 2005))
Demo palmot was the sqme as final, just less finished. Mysteri city was never a thing, ps2 demo map is just a mockup to showcase territory control with 3 non palmont tracks.
Can you do a Cheat for Gamecube NFS MW with Traffic cars please?
ola felipe, gostaria de saber se tem como instalar o mod open races no spark server offline?
O mod é apenas para o offline. Não serve para o online
are there any troughboundary files that go with these tracks?
yea

Do you know any info about the Carbon online mod ?
It’s still being made.
@@DevinMillarDM thanks for info.
Hi Felipe!!! Pay your attention for this (hiddenpalace Need for Speed Carbon (Aug 8 2006_Executable prototype))
I can not paste all link. But this is unplayable prototype for xbox downloaded in this month. I very wait your video about this.
Yea, I know about it. Its incomplete and unplayable
very incomplete. it also has files from builds that are months earlier (June and July 2006 (dates had to be guessed; don't take them as exact accurate dates))(i mean, by August 2006, game was very close to be finished, just some differences)
the game in the intro looks like PS3
This is real mystery ciry or not? And it would be cool if it was restarted.
no
Its not mystery city, it's very early Palmont downtown test, most likely to make handling tests and see how street layout play with new handling so it can be changed if needed. PS2/X360 Demo map was never a thing. Palmont was very inception as a drawing of its vista was identical to the final game.
All the district details included. Same with San Juan. Demo map is weird case of making a mockup so they can show features and tracks they wanted the most with least amount of space on the disk, and having some mininarrative going in it.
This is why san jaun, drift track and canyon are illogically slapped together in the middle of the city. While all surruounding of it are mangled bits of final Palmont.
real shit
Mystery city still canceled SOZ
yey

They do.

Would be great if you could talk in these videos. Nobody would judge you. On the contrary - would be a great welcome.
Not a native english speaker so... yea
also you people have no idea how weird it feels do a voiced video, you are like staring at your monitor screen, talking to no one, lol
@@379Felipe O lot of youtubers aren't native speakers and do well. I believe the first barrier of entry is purely psychological.
