I find the track changes more fascinating. Tropical Circuit had the longer PC layout (I guess they had issues with the PS2 handling that huge of a track) + Rocky Canyons (although VERY unfinished in this alpha) had a full course layout like seen on it's map even in the final game. (It's still a 1 lap sprint course in-game)
Blackbox mindset: DEV 1: "Hey, so you know how, typically on taxi cabs, they have this checkered pattern on them? It's one of the main defining characteristics of your typical taxi?" DEV 2: "Yeah?" DEV 1: "And you know how we decided to incorporate such a key detail onto the taxi model in our game?" DEV 2: "Go on..." DEV 1: "What if we just, y'know... got rid of it for no reason what-so-ever? If we like, went out of our way to straight up remove this detail from the texture? Just because whatever?" DEV 2: "Genius..."

What a shame, the cut 360 Modena and McLaren F1 cockpit models, showing the developers wanted to bring back the first person view for all cars just like happened to the first Hot Pursuit. Possibly they doens't got much time to finish and let only 3 cars have the cockpit view.
ngl, i kinda miss it when traffic cars were unlicensed. also would have loved to have the police cars be in different colors/liveries depending on the location. Like Hawaiian police from the tropical setting to Greek scheme in the mediterranean setting, etc edit: the golden M5 slaps, damn it looks good
Not to mention having race circuits in the game. In High Stakes, you work your way from being a street racer all the way to being a GT racer. I wished they do that for HP2 too
I gotta get a hold of this, the Black Box PS2 version of HP2 is legitimately my favorite entry in the entire series. Amazing tracks, fantastic vehicle handling, gorgeous visuals that still hold up today, and the bangin soundtrack, honestly just a masterclass of a game. Thanks for the video!

I still dont understand why they run Traffic car level of detail so horribly in Underground 1 and 2. HP2 models look so good and have various colours, while UG1 and UG2 models look blurry and lost the variation.
It gets weird when you realize the fact that in the universe of Underground and Underground 2, there exists both the real life Ford Focus and a fictional counterpart simultaneously.
These models are the same across all these games you mentioned including the 00-05 Chevrolet Impala Sedan & Taxi cab for example it wasn't until Need for Speed: Most Wanted that the traffic cars were changed. Those models were kept until Need for Speed: World while Undercover on PC, X-Box 360, & PS3 got new traffic cars. While on PS2 & Wii the Most Wanted/Carbon/World traffic cars also are used.

Skate 3 actually has some higher poly versions of NFS:MW's traffic, and what they thought was maybe Blackbox wanted to remaster all of MW's traffic the same way they did with the Civic Cruiser and Rhino, but eventually ran out of time to remake every single traffic car, so they had to resort to recycling models from Burnout. Then eventually those models they had gotten around to making found a new home in Skate 3.

This could be a start if PS2 Hot Pursuit 2 gets a Plus mod. What stopped the BMW NFS editions, really? They are really protective for their cars in video games these days.

14:40 As a person from the Gran Turismo modding community, i am happy that BB fixed the issue of having the wrong CLK right away. In GT's case, Polyphony (accidently or not) misinformated people calling the CLK-LM Race car as the CLK GTR in GT4 and GT PSP and never fixed it for some reason. Though id honestly love to see the CLK-LM Road Car in the final HP2
Is debug cam or some kind of noclip functionality possible in this build? I would've loved to explore The Lot map, which seems to be an early version of desert area, but everything besides a small loop is blocked off with invisible walls.

i figured it out, you just press L1 in the car selection screen and they all unlock. you dont get the traffic cars or hidden ones like he shows in this video, but you do get the other ones. same for the tracks, just press L1 on them and they unlock
By the way, if you don't mind me asking, are there tools that exist to extract model and texture data from HP2/PS2? Wanted to do something with the models of the cars or even the tracks a while back, but ran into a brick wall finding anything that can read the internal archives of this particular Black Box game.
As good as this game was, it was a huge downgrade from High Stakes. No mirrored tracks, no bad weather mode, no night time, no local police feature, no upgrading cars, no cockpit cams except for 3 cars, cars info are much more smaller and shorter, and etc.
Not to mention the progression system is really monotonous. They added a tournament tree that let's you pick your own path but man.....some events were way too long with so much races or laps. Unlike in High Stakes where you take part in each events where you have to buy cars, upgrade and repair them. Some events require entry fees too. I really like the details they added here as opposed to HP2 which seems....empty
Why they dont use a licenced traffic cars? Ford focus look much better than ordinary hatchback. And they got police victoria, why not use a taxi version?

No no, me and a group of friends downloaded your ps2 mod for 20362 while using delta. We got nothing but a brand new save file with the same cars but different iso name

As Black Box Games was a Canadian studio, they included some Canadian artists/bands in some of their games’ soundtracks.

Isso são mipmaps, que se for explicar de forma basica, são LODs para texturas.

Modelulator can extract some of the console stuff. It can be found in NFSTools discord or by contacting @þulim#9816
