The high quality New Zealand sphagnum moss that comes in dried bricks will come back to life.
The heat treat is good, but not perfect.
I started nepenethes seeds late March and can confirm I have live moss in my trays.

That is awesome!!! I hadn’t heard that it will grow with the New Zealand moss. That is good to know!

Sphagmoss by besgrow is the brand I am using. It has been 4 weeks under full spectrum led lights (80ppfd), 65-78°F, 100% RH, RO filtered water was used to water.
Beside the live moss there is also small strands of grass, and some small plants (ferns?) growing in the containers as well.

Thank you!! I will have to give it a shot!! It is so cool to see others having this success. I was convinced after watching and reading other’s testimonies that it wasn’t possible. So I was completely shocked to see that it did. It is cool seeing others having the same success!!

@@Carnivorousplanthelp I had read the same thing in many forums.
The one thing I did differently than you when I started my seedlings-
I did NOT microwave the moss before putting it into the trays.
Brand new humidity dome, trays, RO water, and brand new package of moss.
Cool to know you can grow fresh moss with a bit of patience.
      Keep up the great videos!

Thank you!! I microwaved mine but not for very long. That probably helped.

Anyone who says LFS wont come back to life from dried stuff hasnt grown with it for long enough, it definitely does as you've proven here! Ive got multiple pots with it popping up and I also have never bought live stuff. I use the expensive NZ LFS from a local orchid place and it will definitely come back to life but it isnt 100% success for me. Some pots do and some dont. Currently Ive got 4 pots out of about 40 that have live sphagnum growing that came from the NZ LFS. Ive also got some growing in a pot that Im pretty sure only has peat, perlite and sand in it, so its possible to come from just peat too but doesnt seem as likely.

I have live sphagnum popping up everyone (pots, terrariums, vivariums). It's like easy once the humidity is high. Can happen even in less humidity. Haven't noticed any particular brand being more likely but haven't been tracking closely.
Also lot of grass. And ferns sometimes? But the ferns may just be from spores from my other ferns, I just have had ferns pop up in vivariums I never planted ferns into.

I have been getting the ferns too! It has to be in the moss. I couldn’t figure out where they were coming from. I figured just from the growers.

So glad I found your channel! I think RUclips brought me here because of all the cannabis growing videos I've been watching. The first video I watched was about different carnivorous plants to control fungus gnats, I think. I don't have any carnivores, but I'm thinking about getting some Drossera for the grow room after watching that!
Growing cannabis is becoming so popular. Hopefully some of the other new growers out there like me will find your channel and get some value out of it! Cheers!

I couldn't find any info on brands that would work other than this video. I know the mosser lee stuff i started with is beyond dead though. Not good all around.
