I spent thirty yrs. Driving coal trucks , almost died in two different wrecks that weren't my fault , finely fell off trailer of one , broken back in two places , leg broke in two places , can't do much anything now , and I find myself watching what seems like a fine young man drive one on a youtube channel .
Sorry to hear about your injuries Terry. I hope you get better soon! Yes, Matt is a great professional driver. Been watching his videos for quite awhile now.
@@callthemall the back injury was four years ago , but the rods and screws in my leg and foot kept getting infection , wound up going into septic shock over that , eight days in intensive care , heart stopped several times , bottom half quit now on several meds. For affib, they are afraid to put metal in my back , it might get infected.it has been a journey.
Hey Terry, my dad was a long haul trucker (hauled hazmat) for 30 years and I am constantly telling people how brutal of a job it is. People think it's easy to 'just sit and drive' and it's anything but! My dad fell off the bed of his truck and broke his shoulder to the point it needed screws and rods to go back together. he had to drive cross country that way because of the importance of the delivery before he could go into the ER. I know it's not much but I hope it helps to know there are folks out here who love and appreciate truck drivers for all they do and everything they sacrifice being out on the road. I hope you find healing and new joys in life.
New truck driver here. Been driving now for 9 months. I recognize this road. I96 Westbound heading towards Farmington Hills, Royal Oak, Detroit. I run this road most days. Videos like these are what made me finally decide to ditch 29 years of factory life to follow my dream and become a trucker. Best decision I ever made, shoulda done it sooner. I dream of hauling heavy in a nice rig like this. Can't complain, though, I'm with a good small town company paid hourly home every night, making $$$ and having a blast. Stay safe out there brother! Love the video.
my dad passed away a little over a year ago now. when i was a kid he’d take me trucking with him. id always fall asleep in the sleeper because something about riding in a truck and hearing him shift gears put me right to sleep. i love listening to this and remembering the good times we had before im out like a light. i miss him so so much, and this makes me miss him a little less
Same here, my dad was taken when I was seven but he had a diamond rep cab over and he would sneak me on trips with him and man something about the hum and of that engine and the gear shifting would sing me right to sleep! Man I can’t still get all cozy in sleeper and sleep like a baby to this very day 40 years later!!! Especially when it’s all rainy outside!
I don't know if anyone else uses this to sleep but this is one of my favourite relax/sleep vids. Very smooth and relaxing to watch and the storm tops it off. Great work and goodnight.
That truck of yours sounds awesome! I could listen to that turbo all day and not get sick of it. I came across your channel recently, and I find myself watching it all the time! Safe travels sir, and keep up the awesome work!
It looks just like my Peterbilt 379. The only difference is he has an 18 speed. I had to live with a 13 speed. I also ran Super B Train Flat decks, but found strapping and tarping in the winter a bit much at over 70 years old. Now I'm hauling local, and home every day.
Man!!! This type of videos are just what I need. I'm just turning on my favourite music for my mood and watching this. This videos is making me feel like I'm in some kind of meditative trance. It's so cool... Besides, this thing is helping me to see the world far beyond my city and my country - I have no any opportunity to travel, so it helps a lot. Thank you! Hope you'll do this kind of videos more often!!! I wish you the best of luck and an easy roads before you and your truck!
Thank you! I am 53 and need to build my confidence back. I had a strong urge to do that work when I was young. Now I finally think it is time for me to do it. Make more videos like this! Thank you!
Awesome video. Learning how to shift gears from this trucker. Nice smooth driving. Had the chance to be a trucker when I was younger, but decided for a career in the military.
Once I was so broken an I watched a video like this. My heart actually drove with the truck. It was profound. This digital way of life is something beyond comprehension how it connects how it works. It's as impossible to understand or make scene as much as life.
34 yrs old, work in shops since I'm 18 Machinist/industrial mechanic/welder Left my job yesterday.I'll never work in a shop again.Starting trucking classes now.Great channel keep it up
Watchin on a 55" screen with phones on and it is like i am sitting in the Truck!🤘 Paying real close attention to him shifting. Just learning about shifting on one of these beast's .
I really dig your content! I have a couple hundred hours into ATS and want to get behind the wheel of a 379/389 someday. Thanks for keeping me entertained.
I remember riding with my dad when I was a kid and when it got late I use to sleep in the sleeper, best way I fell asleep was to the sound of a diesel motor and rain hitting the windshield
I am a nearly 40 year old fully disabled combat veteran, I wish I had gotten into trucking after I got medically discharged from the military but my back problems prevented that, I have nothing but love and respect for them….they are quite literally THE BACKBONE OF THIS COUNTRY!!
Hello good fellow, thanks for this ride along that you have invited us on, loved being with you in the cab hauling heavy in the rain, my favorite environment to drive a big rig; cold rainy out, worm and cozy in the cab with the drone of the big diesel engine giving you plenty of company!
Next time you clean your windows and mirrors. After you dry them put rainex on them. U will be surprised. If you haven't used it sir. Have your light ribbon checked behind your gauges. It's awesome to see a young man. Drivin a Pete with a standard box and can float shift it.
Driving for ATS out of St Cloud, mn years ago in a Freightliner condo (old fl150 if I remember model numbers right). The rain hitting the fiberglass roof... I had to pull over and and it out sometimes.
Wow! I thought I was the only one using low to start out. My clutch will last forever! And I even saw him splitting a couple of low range gears. I split 'em all coming out of the mud bog bush with a load of logs. If you got a 13 speed you got to crawl all the way out in low or first gear. Give me an 18 speed any day.
Very cool to see how trucks like this work. I always wondered, and I’m visualizing all the sounds I’ve heard before with these trucks. 😄 This was a fantastic video.
I notice you constantly flipping a switch when you come to a stop and then take off? Is that your engine fan or what is it you’re doing? 1:35 is an example
Used to deliver bottled water to Unilock and other businesses in the area. Probably wouldn't have noticed just skimming the video, but someone time-stamped the Ajax paving truck (also delivered to their lab down the street).
Very very smooth gear shifting, shows your expertise. Which tractor are you using? When you have a full load, what is the fuel efficiency? I like that small steering wheel. It looks really good
how come there are certain gears where it looks like you don't shift at all, yet it sounds like there's been an RPM change, as if you had shifted up? are you just letting off the throttle and re-engaging it? engaging the clutch for a second then disengaging?
That’ll be the gear splitter, it’s air assisted and you don’t actually have to pull the stick out of gear, just let off throttle and get back on and it splits the gear
Been on this stretch of highway so much, usually take it when I'm coming back from the U.P. I75 is more direct but I like taking US 127 better until I get to 96. Hell, I've probably drove by you at some point!
can someone explain to me, how gear shifting works in these us trucks? he seems not to step on any clutch pedal. is everything controlled by the shifting stick?
Love how this guy waves to everyone
Yes, i like that waving to everyone😁👍
Only Canadians and small town folk know the importance of such gestures. All about respect 🤘🏼
Driving a truck with a hood is like being in a gang. Everyone waves
Now That’s a legend
and they dont even see him cause he cant reach over the steering wheel.

I’m leaving a factory job of 2 1/2 years to do trucking. Starting my classes next month. I’m nervous for the permit alone 😅
I like your attitude when you greet colleagues. You look like a nice guy. Have a good trip and be safe.
Pure class this guy.
Thanks buddy 👍
Always puts a smile on my face seeing that wave
too bad he didn't get more back, it's not like that anymore

1:45 “How many tires do you need?”
“Yes.”
😂 welcome to the wonky Michigan axle laws!
WHAAAT!?! first time I see that many.
Its due to how heavy he is hauling. Must be some really dense stuff.
Here in Manitoba you don’t need all those tires, thats also a reason why most of are roads are the shits, hahah.
I've seen Indian trucks with that many axles
I don't know if anyone else uses this to sleep but this is one of my favourite relax/sleep vids. Very smooth and relaxing to watch and the storm tops it off. Great work and goodnight.

So relaxing. The angle makes it looks like I would need a booster seat to see over the dash
So it's lightly raining here. That awesome first rain smell just kicked up the realism while watching this one.

How do you see anything? Dashboard is massive.

Why is the shifter so long? And how can you see over that dashboard without raising your seat?
