That model on the box for the train set is actually just the clockwork Thomas with a model series face superimposed on it. you can tell because the front coupling is molded in, and there’s a second set of steps along Thomas’s tanks.
With the 80th anniversary of Thomas franchise just around the corner, it’s a big for these pilot episodes to finally be released to the public. It’s believed that at sometime in 2025 that Mattel will finally release the Down The Mine test pilot completely restored on a special dvd release. My personal theory that other than Mattel themselves, we could see the Down The Mine Pilot (in it’s original quality) and maybe with we’re really that lucky to see our public screenings of the other two pilots at next year’s Awdry Extravaganza.
@@tonys6620 Closest thing we got was that Spitting Image bit that was shown at the beginning. If someone ever made a parody Thomas style show, I bet that would be a running gag.
Your telling me that outsiders of the Thomas fandom are just starting to take notice of this series? If so then this is a Massive W for the railway series fandom in my opinion
@@starconverse46productions20It’s in development hell tbh. But with Mattel’s Barbie Movie being a massive hit, they are stepping up their IPs to get adaptations made. Thomas is one of them, but my hopes are pretty mixed because of how they’re planned the movie out.
The Andrew Loid Weber one makes me wonder if in another world it would have gotten pass the pilot if a younger audience saw it. If i remember thats what happened to Barney. It was almost past over but somehow got shown to some kids who really liked it so it was greenlit.
I love Thomas and have tons of nostalgia! Will you do a video on lost fast food commercials one day? I nominate the 1970s Jack In The Box animated commercials, as only three [Baseball, In The Park, Jack In The Box Animated Commercial] are on RUclips.
The 1953 pilot is quite unique using the Hornby Dublo models. I never realized how heavy the models would be on set and how big the set was until I actually recreated the pilot. It is the most accurate depiction of the pilot in physical form. I also got a friend Fan100_Thomas working on a digital recreation of the 1953 pilot which is absolutely peak and WILL BE the most accurate recreation down to the super accurate narration and sound effects sourced from the time period, if not the same sfx used in the pilot.
It's definitely a nice update on a whole lot of these lost media with our favorite blue locomotive. Though I wonder if Wilbert Awdry's reason why he was hesitant for the Anderew Lloyd series was maybe due to how British Critics felt about Disney's version of Alice in Wonderland and Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree. While both are now well-regarded classics today, they were not well received by a lot of British critics at first. But eventually would find its audience. Even if importing shows and changing it to suit us Yanks is a bit controversial, but to be fair, for the most part they still try to respect the original roots. Since Ringo reprised his role as narrator for Shining Time Station, Mark Moraghan from seasons 17 to 21, and did try with the late Michael Angelis with Season 7. Since they did have to change some lines of dialogue to fit the different English terminology, and in the CGI, series had some of the side characters keep their old accents to remind us of this is a show from another country on the other side of the world.
I've heard that news before. I've got a film that's called Project 5383 plus I've got replicas of Pilots Thomas & Gordon one from Bachmann and another from wood. Although when you mentioned Pilot Gordon dismantled you're meaning Pilot Thomas would be one pilot model left.
20:49 that's COMPLETELY false information! The box CLEARLY shows the Hornby Clockwork model on the front with the PILOT Thomas's face, NOT the whole original model itself. You can easily tell this by it's blue footplate, the added red and yellow lining on both his splashers and cab windows, the lack of detail on his buffer beam, AND the fact he only has 4 wheels instead of 6!!
21:30 Actually that’s a different Happy Face That’s been used in Season 1-12 the Smiling Face is of course different that picture was used from pre production of Season 2
Because recording the shows was expensive in the 50s ($300 for 1 hour in 1950s money. Today, that would be $3,362). Cheaply videotaping things wouldn't happen until 1956. The SSoH pilot was broadcast in 1953,
SuperTed wasn't the work of Cosgrove Hall. It was made by Siriol Animation. The Super Ted pilot Cosgrove did was a different thing altogether. The fact they had the same name was just a coincidence.
Quick note; the staff members of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends you mentioned in the video are Britt Allcroft and Mike O'Donnell, not Britt Allcross and Mike O'Donald.
20:40 i think it just has a promotional image of the face put on a picture of the toy or prototype of the toy. the face is at a slightly different angle with different lighting
Was too old to watch Thomas when it was on TV (Didn't have much interest on the stories and was old enough to realise it was even more of a fancy toy commercial than the other shows that were on at the time) Still... A gigantic hand coming in to fix the derailed train sounds hillarious as fuck. It sound like something that would happen on robot chicken and Thomas would be like "yeah, that happens sometimes, let's not question God".

Also the footplate is blue instead of red, and it only has 4 wheels.

Why a train model falling off the tracks and having to be set back on them in a live broadcast is my exact sense of humor, even I don't know why.
Unintentionally Monty Python-esque

Now all of sodor knows your here
i love that Thomas is starting to get seen by the outsiders to the fandom, beucase it's genually interesting

Thomas really needs a new movie, especially with Paddington serving as a perfect source of inspiration for its style and tone.
Marc Forster is apparently making one, but I think he forgot that he even wanted to make that movie, there hasn't been anything new about it in ages

I love the Thomas-ified Spongebob closing theme at the end.
Rev. W. Awdry wrote a letter to the BBC after the pilot
Oh Dear... The Reverend's letters tended to be Fizzers!
To who?

The pilot models of Thomas and Gordon were actually refurbished and modified for use on the main show

*"Monty Python's Flying Circus"*
"The Spanish Inquisition" (1970)
End Credits Music: "Devil's Galop"
Honestly I’d be amazed for when Down The Mine is found.
Down the mine: So THAT'S why the Thomas creepypasta 'A part of me stayed behind' came to be! Now it all makes sense!
0:12 spitting image
I LOVE THOMAS LETS FREAKING GOOOOO
The top spinner was part of Jamie and the magic torch, I’m 25 and I clocked it straight away
Gotta admit: Rather the current AEG drawing, than the pilot. It lookrd EVEN CREEPIER.
I hope we do get the down the mine pilot released in the future
The intro is wonderess!
Looks like I’m early for this train!
Would be cool to see some of these resurface someday!
Nice history i'll have to look into it on future reveiws.
I read it for some reason as lost temple pilots.......saw the thumbnails, and subsequently wondered what stone temple pilots had to do with thomas.

Fingers crossed for next year folks
So companies thinking that American kids don't like trains isn't a new thing

Nice
Whose brilliant idea was it to broadcast the Sad Story of Henry live?
Because recording the shows was expensive in the 50s ($300 for 1 hour in 1950s money. Today, that would be $3,362).
Cheaply videotaping things wouldn't happen until 1956. The SSoH pilot was broadcast in 1953,
the Thomas on the box could be from the O gauge model from the other 80s pilot
SuperTed wasn't the work of Cosgrove Hall. It was made by Siriol Animation.
The Super Ted pilot Cosgrove did was a different thing altogether. The fact they had the same name was just a coincidence.
I SO want to see these pilots! Anyone else?
What's the music from 0:44 - 1:41?
I didn’t realise how early I clicked on this
Quick note; the staff members of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends you mentioned in the video are Britt Allcroft and Mike O'Donnell, not Britt Allcross and Mike O'Donald.

I do hope the Down the Mine pilot will be released for the 80th anniversary.
Hopefully we'll see it next year.
Let's All Hope That The AEG Pilot Doesn't get found...
It did get found a bit ago I found it on a playlist
I love the original creations, I hate giant corporations.
My question is WHAT THE HELL HAPPEND TO THE MODELS FOR SAD STORY OF HENRY PILOT!
20:48 thats not the pilot thomas, that's the clockwork thomas thats in the set just with the face cast of thomas from the show
Was too old to watch Thomas when it was on TV (Didn't have much interest on the stories and was old enough to realise it was even more of a fancy toy commercial than the other shows that were on at the time)
Still...
A gigantic hand coming in to fix the derailed train sounds hillarious as fuck. It sound like something that would happen on robot chicken and Thomas would be like "yeah, that happens sometimes, let's not question God".
I chuckle everytime he says “the BBC” 😂
Isn't this a remake video of the other one you did?
I have seen it
Please do a video on the original lost version of Toy story 2 Please
12:10 I mean he wasn't wrong
I like trains XD
Is Thomas your favorite?
18:46 I thought her name was Britt Allcroft
He mispronounced her last name.
Thomas the lost engine🎵🎶🎵🎶
10:18 I decided to read the narrated lines, we need a CGI recreation using this original script as a base.
