@@comeoutandpla Thanks bro. Particularly interested in the parts and process to change out the SB SOB brace (sucks) for something else (SBA3 or KAK blade maybe). You mentioned which buffer and weight you used. Did you change the buffer spring or still running stock spring? Looked at Farrow Tech website, seems it's now $85 for the brace adaptor AND a new buffer? (they also throw in a castle nut) Any idea if that buffer they are sending out will work? Since it's a polymer frame, did you go "a good hand tight" on the castle nut vs. the 40ft pounds recommended for an AR? Maybe some blue loctite to keep it from backing out? Guessing you got the buffer retainer from ZR Tech? Only one I've seen available, for $15 plus $7 to ship something that only weighs a couple of grams and only cost a couple of pennies to make. Gotta love that... Some intel from Extar on the buffer retainer - they told me they intentionally used the polymer retainer because of the polymer frame, which creates an alternate breaking point in case of any cycling failure. Meaning you'll break the retainer instead of the frame, saving the frame. Using the steel retainer makes the polymer frame the weaker part. They also noted that the only time there is any pressure on the retainer is when it is disassembled. When assembled, the bolt sits slightly inside the buffer tube, so there's no pressure on the retainer at all.
@@scottkain7474 I’d have to revisit how I installed the castle nut but I think the FarrowTech adapter is pretty stout...maybe not milspec torq stout, but I haven’t had any rotation problems. Basically I used just their adapter with a milspec tube, flat wire standard spring and an 8oz expo arms buffer. Also used the ZR retainer just because I was seeing a lot of breakages online so it was preventative
It’s such a fun gun to shoot. Stupid lightweight and has been very reliable for me and a lot of others. The only tricky part is availability. It used to sell out in hours after a release. Now, you’d have a couple days usually to snag one. Their email alerts are so-so for releases but if you’re on Facebook, find the Extar group and it gets announced there almost immediately
Just read on RUclips comment section right now where somewhere on another video says he Asked Extar about the plastic buffer retainer and they DO NOT RECOMMEND replacing with ZR steel one. Said that the plastic buffer retainer is Designed to be a failure point Which saves polymer frame from any damage if there’s a failure. Moving to steel makes frame new weak point. Curious to others thoughts on this?
Technically you’re attaching a milspec tube to the farrowtech adapter so that’s still a point of failure before you get to the frame. I know Extar is super against anything that modifies the design and I get why. But I also think they would benefit working with those modding the design and make it as safe as allowable 🤷♂️
Unless you are referring to just replacing the buffer and using their tube. In which case, I would agree with them entirely. I don’t see any point to replacing the buffer if you are using they OEM tube
@@comeoutandpla this is exactly what I read from another users comment just want to share insight with the community. “I asked Extar about the plastic buffer retainer they DO NOT RECOMMEND replacing with steel ZR. ( Rip off of over 20$ anyways for small steel part anyways ). Plastic buffer retainer is designed to be a failure point which saves your polymer frame from any damage if there is a failure. Moving to steel makes polymer frame new weak point. Only time plate is under pressure is when frame is disassembled. It is not under any pressure when assembled because bolt rides slightly inside the tube depressing buffer and spring slightly. Your preference? But Extar should send out new plastic buffer retainers upon request supposedly. “ Thanks for responding btw
None due to normal operation. I did run it without anti walk pins and the rear pin came out and I didn’t notice until I had a pretty serious (legal serious) malfunction. But with the proper pins, it’s been great
And to answer the type...it’s their standard (non steel) 3lbs trigger. I had the 4lbs trigger in for a while and did a trigger swap on a bunch of guns and the 3lbs landed in the EP9. To me, it’s not much of a noticeable difference for how I shoot to have it a pound lighter.
It’s pretty easy to see how it goes once you start. You’ll need to remove the buffer and the cover piece and I don’t recall if it’s all one part or separate. But by cover, I mean the part that looks like the farrow adapter. Then you slide the adapter on and it will be snug and then you can tension it down with the screw inside that adapter. Hope that sort of makes sense, but like I mentioned...it is pretty straight forward once you get started. Not a lot of parts to deal with. A big part is after it’s installed, make sure the bolt cycles manually without binding so you ensure the alignment is good
