hahaah holy shit i have no idea why but this one got me good
Musta had a slightly damaged visor. Did you let prapor near it with his power drill by any chance?
That’s astounding, even though it’s not an AP round the helmet still completely stopped a 5.45 round. That’s fascinating.
So which is it? Is it astounding or fascinating?
@@ChickentNug Both.
@@ChickentNug a bit of both I suppose
There are too many wrong things about this test. Just compare it to the NIJ06 standard
@@fork5002 understandable
Surprising result.
amazing channel. Varg disappeared, did you hide him in the wilderness?
If only Escape From Tarkov had your visor explode off of your helmet instead of a little crack
No stop helmets are already crappy
@@whenthesussus7340 Bolt actions are also crap and all armirs bellow lvl 4 are also usless because all ap super amunitions are to easy to get right now which actualy also penetrate lvl4.
@@wadimek116 not altyn or maska

@@whenthesussus7340 with rys t 7n39 will have 40% chance in third shot
Escape from Tarkov devs need to learn about this.
iirc, its an intentional decision for game balance - even though tarkov's big focus is realism - the sacrifice was made, as it improves gameplay a lot.
@@willh2739 It is still weird that Volcan is rated class 6 in game, and ZSH 1-2m only 4 even through it peforms better
the vulkan that is class 6 in game is the vulkan-5 is it not? Oxide has not tested that yet
@@slidingdoor7102 sorry my bad. Wrong vulcan xd.
Even through they are same armor class
@@willh2739 Yeah, why nerfing debuffs, increasing ricochete chance and reducing helmet costs, when you can just give surreal armor stats, that allows you survive goddamn headshot with a 7.62x51... That's both dumb and bad for gameplay, especially considering that this game pretends to be realistic.
Wonder what that helmet's history is. There is a writing in Russian on the back of it "obstetrician"
Considering I know who sent it in and the dumb shit our group does, makes sense XD
Probably scared terrorists so much, they gave birth as soon as they saw him coming.
That’s most likely a callsign of the user, but only he or his friends can tell why this was the case.
Oxide probably wrote that on there lol
Obstetrician - it is the nickname of the orderly's entourage (escape from tarkov)
"cheap aluminum alloy"
aluminum is much more expensive than most steel alloys, and high strength aluminum alloys such as 2000 or 7000 series are much more expensive than standard 6000 series aluminum
How do the high strength steel, titanium, and aluminum alloys compare by cost?
still cheaper than titanium. Espesially in Russia
Well it's still much cheaper here than HS steels (as we have LOTS of water and nuclear generated electricity and have lots of bauxites) and ofcource cheaper than strong titanium alloys. 1 KG of Al armor costs like $14 and more, high quality steel armor costs like $800-1500/kg (spb.tiu.ru/p358627272-list-bronevoj-st96.html) and titanium is ten times more (insanely) expensive.
@@Oxide_does_his_best the only reason aluminum is as cheap as it is, is because the vast majority of it is recycled. if it wasn't, it would probably cost four or five times as much.
@@SuperAWaC still doesnt make aluminum an effective defensive measure, even if it did cost 20x more then steels
Well, as a Russian, I won't probably ever get bored reminding you that in "ZSh" the "sh" part is pronounced the same way you pronounce it in "shoot" for example. Same rule applies to the well-known "GSSh" headset. These letters are actual abbreviations for "Zaschitny Shlem" and "Garnitura Spetsialnaya Shumostoykaya". The more you know...)
Здарова, земляк! Очень жизненная ситуация
How would you pronounce the full name? Is it spelt out like "Zed-shh" or are both the Z and Sh parts slurred together?
@@pakman184 I would pronounce it "ZeSha", second syllable stressed
@@K4TAKAN Interesting, thanks!
Last time I was this early russian helmets did not have visors
I love the no bullshit approach to these videos. Concise info, shooting, then analysis. No 15 minutes of fluff about nonsense. Great stuff!
I don’t even watch demolition ranch anymore because of all his bs
"god give me a reason to get out of bed today"
"Guns ain't cheap, my son"
Zsh works pretty damn well, I use it all the time when I run customs
also loves to deafen you so your favorite camper can kill you while you loot bodies
@@FlairRound this is quite crappy helmet
that shotgun hit was brutal
I think I got a migraine just thinking about it.
Penetrated or not, I think it will be the end of the wearer anyway. This blow can break a neck for sure.
@@Timo4eus when a bullet is stopped by the fibrous layer of a composite armour it means all its kinetic energy has been imparted to some other moving parts, so since the helmet itself or the stand didn't fly off I'd say no, it wouldn't have made such an impact to break your neck but I guess we'll never know until someone tests it on a human being.
That would definitely ring your bell.
I cringed when i saw the impact
@@francesco3772 I think there was a decent amount of temporary flex on the outer shell which absorbed a decent amount of energy. The flash, noise, and overall denting also absorbed a ton.
Overall though there is a ton of damage to the wearer, I agree maybe not always fatal, but would deafen and concuss the shit out of you making you effectively combat ineffective for at least a short period, which is unlike the other non penetrating results we've seen.
it feels so good to see that you're getting the support that your truly deserve. I love your vids and know that eventually, I will be watching your 1 mil special.
Fascinating stuff with the Aramid layers, I used to work with kit returned from theatre that had been struck by various threats, and we regularly found that aramid helmets that took angled impacts would create channels, where the round could pierce the front of the helmet and get caught between layers, but not stop, following the curvature of the helmet until the exit (or sometimes just stop part way round) the back. It would look from the outside like a through and through, hole in the front, hole in the back, but no!
Also, a note on deformation, it really doesn't take much movement distance to inflict serious cranial damage, rather like the helmet protection, it's about how fast and hard you're struck almost as much as how deep the deformation is. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the BABT from a slug to the helmet would still kill.
sick ballistic tests man, hope to see more of these in the future.
Don't hope, count on it
These are enjoyable to watch. There's just something satisfying about watching military equipment being used for what it was designed for.
Very interesting with the visor hit from the 5.7, I would be interested to see more hits like this. Also, I have 7n6 ammo if you need some still.
PLEASE
"Nooo you can't just ruin them, not the heckin russian meme helmetinos"

that shit is disco
Surprising to see the helmet withstood a 5.45 round. Would someday love a collection like that. So aesthetic.
Great video as always. Would you ever consider using NATO rounds to see how they would hold up in an East vs. West type of conflict?
357, 5.7 and 9x19 are quite western
I uh, did use NATO rounds. If you mean rifle rounds then yes, those are coming.
@@Oxide_does_his_best Cool. I was wondering about 5.56.
@@Oxide_does_his_best Yea, sorry. I guess I could have worded that better. I meant 5.56 and 7.62x51 if it holds up.
I'm assuming 5.56 will cruise right through these.

This is really cool and I am falling in love with these videos. Please keep churning them out
02:16 the inscription on the helmet is the callsign of the fighter "Midwife" - "Akusher". Judging by this, the helmet was used in a real special unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia
Most of the helmets are prior use. Only a few like the k6 are mint
This was honestly pretty amazing, I am glad someone out here is willing to do research like this~!
Really like the way you approach this testing. Very transparent and for someone whos gun knowledge only comes from reading, this is a very well made video. Would like to see your channel grow so we can all appreciate even better slow motion videos!
you are just something else, good and genuine content, you are just great, would love to see more from you, coming across actual russian accurate gear tests is very rare and you content is a gem both that it is very rare to see and also because it is very very well made, keep going man!
Video games always portray 357 as being this powerful, one-shotting round that goes straight through armor like this. Nice to see what it’s actually capable of.
this youtube channel is a tarkov players wet dream
I got this in my recommended, and I was not disappointed, the quality is nice and information is straight forward, +1 sub 🙂
Please keep this series going, its passion fills me with determination
but can it withstand me throwing M&Ms at it at full speed?
i highly doubt the helmet will stop it
An individual M&M has a net weight of 0.9147 grams or 14.1159782 grains. A 147 grain 7.62 ammo defeats level 3 armor at 2,780 FPS. In order for an M&M to have the velocity to defeat level 3 armor it would need to be traveling 28,950.17 FPS or Mach 27.725. So I doubt the helmet would stop it
Add onto the heat generated by the friction of air, the M&M would roughly be 8550 degrees F by the time it reached the helmet. This molten stream of chocolate would act like copper in a shaped charge, instantly melting the materials and killing the wearer.
@@dlistmemer591 you have reached levels to far for human comprehension
Thats unfair, the extra condensed armor penetrating chocolate core will go through 5 cm of concrete

A great video by an underrated youtuber, you deserve more.
Always very impressed at how well these helmets hold up.
do you know any specifics of the alloy? While the metal itself might be cheap, the necessary heat treatment to make it stronger is usually not simple.
This is a great question, I know that aluminum alloy was used one of the Rys helmets. But I do not have any specifics. I'll try to dig into it.
i think i read somewhere that it uses the same aluminium alloy that some Russian AFVs use (the BMD series maybe?). i might just be bullshitting tho cos i cant find that source now
@@Oxide_does_his_best Be careful with this. Otherwise, another Russian will go to jail =)
"Resident of Miass will go on trial for resale of military helmet and goggles. Alexander Petrov wanted to send a parcel to Japan, but did not know that he was committing a crime. As the senior assistant to the prosecutor of the city Daria Savelveva told the site "First Regional", the defendant wanted to send a parcel with a helmet to Japan by mail.
“The specified person, not having permission to export military products on the territory of the Russian Federation, attempted to move across the customs border of the customs union within the EurAsEC by mail to an unidentified person living in Japan in the course of the investigation, an armored helmet and goggles. Based on the results of the investigation of the criminal case, it was sent to the Miass City Court to consider it on the merits".
Experts emphasized that the shipment of such goods is prohibited by an international convention. It is controlled by both the domestic laws of the country and international ones. Note that a South Ural resident can receive up to 7 years in prison for his offense."
@@xxresgr12xx the ABT-102 (used on BMD-2) is comparable to 7039 alloy, which in the west is used...for "aerospace armor" :D
The alloy ABT-102 (and 101) was invented by Nii Stali, so prob a good guess they grabbed what they had literal piles of in stock for making BMDs and went on to press helmets out of it.
