BW Ash will forever be underrated. I’m so happy people recently have been giving that series and that era of Ash more love. These are good reminders for those who forget his bad ass moments. It’s always nice seeing more BW love

Black and white was the very first season of the anime I’ve ever watched and I loved it and even though I like sinnoh and kalos Ash a bit more, unova Ash will always have a place in my heart (also unova Ash has my favorite design)

It was my second after og . I still remember being confused after seeing first ep of BW after Ash vs Harrison . I thought it was another timeline . But soon I learned I was wrong .

Thank you bro for your video. It's very sad how Best Wishes became most-hated throughout. It was my first series that got me into there. Yes, Ash was the most controversial thing in the series. It's just people hate him because he seems to reset. But I found him alright and enjoyable aside from few moments he had especially Elesa. Personally, I found Best Wishes and BW Ash negativity exaggerated. But despite the hatred they received, it's still remain my heart.

Underrated. I've said it all this time that Snivy wasn't LEVEL 5. I've looked through statements and I've never seen a statement that said Snivy was for sure level 5 just that it might have been it's first battle and that statement might have been said by TRIP himself which might only have the context of it being the first battle he sees it in for all we know these specific versions might have had some time out of their Pokéballs because that's just natural and maybe during that time even casual experience was enough. Pikachu being nerfed and not fighting right on top of that gave trip what he needed to win. Black Glasses. THE BONDING! The Osshawat thing with Aquajet? Competitive battling. Cameron was fun.
Idk the specifics on if Snivy was level 5 or not. But yeah typical Snivy don’t carry that move early on so it’s obviously not just a typical starter Pokemon
@@underdogchris1753 Another thing is don't we NEVER see it as a Snivy again it instantly is evolved? Some might attribute that to Trip as a trainer but it's also very possible it just was that strong and you could argue got stronger in the fight while Pikachu would only be getting weaker and Snivy evolves quite quickly no matter what it even could have been at it's level for evolution but never evolved because it didn't have the right trainer. I feel like people just make the excuse to want to hate on something and that's why the level 5 lie is so easily told.
It makes me sad that the community just likes to hop on the Best Wishes hate train just because it's popular to bash it. I grew up watching Diamond and Pearl then immediately jump to Best Wishes and love it. Sure it's not without it's flaws, but the hate for it is definitely over-exaggerated. Anyways great video dude👍🏾 and never be ashamed for liking best wishes just because the community likes to hate on it.

In all honesty, people also forget that they were attempting to reset Ash at the time (hence why Ash thought like a beginner until after the Elesa battle). Edit: yeah, the vacation could be a reason too, forgot until mentioned, Ash just wasn't in the right head space.
*THANK YOU.* I'm glad I wasn't the only one who acknowledges Zekrom's interference being the true reason behind Ash losing to Trip, as well as the fact that the anime doesn't follow *all* of the games' logic, because it would be more restricted and boring if they did follow the game logic through and through. Levels aren't a thing in the anime, so Pikachu doesn't get reset to Level 5 or whatever.
Even as someone who initially didn't like the Black and White Anime, I've always thought people saying they began seeing Black and White as being "bad" because of Pikachu losing to a Snivy from the Lab was a dumb nitpick, considering Zekrom had zapped out Pikachu's Electric Types moves for a bit. What do I think of the Black and White Anime now, as an adult in my early-to-mid-20s? I think it's a C-Tier entry in the Pokémon Anime. Still a significant drop from the Advanced Generation and Diamond and Pearl Animes (Which are my favourites of the Anime, don't @ me for having AG as one of my two favourites), but not terrible either. While I still have some major issues with it (Such as Cameron being an idiot who should've been disqualified from the Unova League, or that Trip could've been handled better), at the same time it does have quite a few good qualities that the video above mentioned, such as Ash's bond with his Unova Pokemon, and him still being a goof, which makes BW Ash IMO still feel like the same Ash who woke up late on hist first day as a trainer and, as a result, was unable to choose either Squirtle, Bulbasaur or Charmander as his first partner (Unfortunately, XY Ash didn't make me feel that way). And tbh, I think I'd rather revisit BW moments than XY or SM moments. Granted, Gen 5 was the last Gen of New Pokémon I had found appealing to me personally until Gen 8 came along and made me go "Alright! Guess there's still something for me in Pokemon after all!" (So, yeah, contrary to most people, I quite like Gen 5's Pokemon and really like Gen 8's).
Admittedly, even back when I was 10, I was quite frustrated with the BW Anime. Gen 5 was probably the last Gen of Pokémon where quite a lot of the New Pokémon introduced in that Gen were quite appealing to me until Gen 8 (Don't @ me), and I'm a HUGE fan of the AG and DP Animes (They're my favourites if the Anime, and I like the OS Series a lot too), and it felt so detached from the first 4 Gens of the Anime, especially in the first season of BW. But now, I can't help but feel maybe I a bit too hard on BW. While I don't suddenly love BW (I still think it's a bit frustrating), and I certainly really don't like the Victini Movies, I now consider BW a C-Tier Gen of the Anime, as I appreciate things about it. 1) All three Theme Songs are BANGERS I love listening to. 2) While I'm still not sure whether it was a good idea for BW to essentially amplify Ash's dumbfounded Ness sometimes, making him sometimes come across as annoying, he was at least still a goof, which has always been a vital part of Ash's character since the beginning of his journey. Heck, Ash was more mature in AG and DP than in the OS, yet he was still a big goof, giving a good balance between Goofiness and Development from the OS. Tbh, and I know I'm going to make A LOT of enemies with the next thing I'm going to say, but I kind of felt XY went to the OTHER extreme, where they overplayed his obliviousness, the whole "Science is SO Amazing" Trope annoyed me, and he didn't feel too much of a goof for me. So I can appreciate BW Ash for being quite the goof where I buy this is still the same Ash Ketchum who woke up VERY late for his first day as a Trainer. I can't really say I feel the same way about XY Ash (Unless there are moments I'm forgetting). 3) The Kyurem vs. Sword of Justice Movie was actually okay for me. 4) I used to find Iris and Cilan disappointing and annoying, but in light of XY and Journeys, where in the former, I found Clemont, Bonnie and Serena even more disappointing and quite off-putting, and in the latter, I actually enjoyed Iris and Cilan as characters, and their interactions with some of Ash's other companions like Goh and Misty, it has made me realised that Iris and Cilan maybe aren't bad characters so much that they were maybe just a bad combination with each other. Ntm, at least Iris was her own character rather than being defined by her dynamic/relationship with Ash (Something I felt her successor was). 5) BW, while did feel like a restart in many ways, at least the series in its second brought back Charizard and recounted his story in the OS, made reference to Brock and the Battle Frontier, and had Dawn and Cynthia return for a few episodes, showing this very much was still a continuation from the OS, AG and DP. Heck, you have Ash in the final episode of BW thinking about ALL of his Companions (Misty, Brock, Tracey, May (Get Well Soon Kaori), Max, Dawn, Iris and Cilan). 6) I do agree BW gave Ash too many Pokémon, and I wish some of them like Snivy and Oshawott (Seriously, what does the Anime have against evolving Ash's Water Types? The only ones who did evolve he either barely uses or released) had evolved. Ntm, Dewott's one of my favourite Middle Stages of Water Starters alongside Croconaw, Marshtomp, Frogadier and Drizzile. And I do wish Ash had caught a Braviary or a Pansear, but his Unova team isn't terrible. Krookodile and Snivy are standouts for me. Plus, they were his last team in a pre-Mega Evolution world (Not really a fan of Mega Evolution as I feel it makes each Pokémon's Special Abilities like Static and Torrent fell a little redundant)

No fue hasta en el último episodio de BW que Ash despertó cuando miró al cielo y recordó que sus amigos y rivales estaban cumpliendo sus objetivos menos él, e incluso a inicios de XY Ash siguió manteniendo la Actitud de Best Wishes hasta que llegó Serena a hacerlo reaccionar. Otro tema son los compañeros de viaje... Ash siempre se comportó inmaduro en las temporadas donde no hacía de tutor o de experimentado del grupo (May, Max, Dawn, Serena, Clemont, Lillie y demás Compañeros de Alola y Goh siempre lo vieron como alguien admirable mientras que Misty, Brock, Tracey, Iris, Cilan y Chloe no lo admiraban como los otros personajes). Por último... lo que le pasó a Ash en Unova es bastante coherente y común. El caso más similar es el de Lionel Messi tras llegar a las finales de la Copa del Mundo 2014, Copa América 2015 y Copa América 2016, y al perder en las tres finales renunció a la selección. Pero cuando regresó dejó de tener el mismo rendimiento haciendo que en la Copa del Mundo de 2018 ni siquiera pudo ganar en un penalty vs Icelan. Le tomó un par de años recuperar el ritmo hasta ganar por fin un título con la selección argentina finalmente en 2021. El retroceso de Ash en Unova es más coherente de lo que parece, y todo fue por la batalla con tobias sumado a la cantidad de veces que Gary lo ha vencido luego de que Ash había obtenido un título grande para ponerle los pies sobre la tierra! Creo que la pérdida que tuvo contra Tobías, alguien que usó legendarios y míticos molestó a Ash hasta cierto punto. Si yo estuviera en esa posición, usando todo lo que tenía, solo para perder contra alguien que tuviera esos tipo de Pokémon, me sentiría de la misma manera que Ash. Me encanta la analogía de fútbol que usaste cuando se trataba de Lionel Messi. Y también muestra que no ganar el 100% del tiempo o no ser el mejor de lo mejor, es una parte natural de la vida. Yo creo que el anime de Pokemon tuvo un trasfondo que no se materializó en la emisión de anime. Lo que ocurre en el último capítulo de Diamante y Perla hasta el inicio del primer episodio de Best Wishes ocurrieron muchas cosas en el medio que no nos lo han narrado. Yo creo que en ese lapso de tiempo Ash ha tenido una vida muy relajada como lo hizo en los episodios de "Ultimate Journeys, To Be a Pokémon Master". La depresión que le agarró a Ash cuando Gary le preguntó si ya era una Pokemon Master, es muy similar a cuando en el último episodio de Best Wishes Ash recuerda que todos sus amigos estan trabajando por sus propios propósitos mientras él se tomó unas vacaciones mentales durante todo Best Whishes y Decolora (y lo digo porque a veces las personas nos tomamos unas vacaciones mentales de nuestras obligaciones, por ejemplo asistimos a la universidad con un rendimiento inferior al habitual luego de alguna decepsión). También la partida de Brock pudo haberlo impactado y trató de volver a sus origenes psicologicamente reflejando a Iris y Cilan como lo eran sus primeros acompañantes (Misty y Brock) para volver a vivir esos recuerdos de cuando ganar medallas se le hacía tan fácil que se las regalaban (como en Kanto). Creo que Battle Frontier fue de por sí demasiado extresante y más aún que luego de eso viajó a Sinnoh sin poder disfrutar su logro frente a Brandom ya que Gary lo derrotó al instante sin dejarlo disfrutar, peor aún el estres de tener un nuevo rival como Paul. A Messi le pasaba parecido puesto que luego de tener una Final muy reñida contra Alemania (Tobias), perdió dos finales ocasiones consecutivas contra un rival novato en una final de américa: Chile (Trip). Agregaré un último dato más: el estrés que generaba ser un ejemplo a seguir para el grupo y tener que hacerse cargo de levantarle el ánimo a May y Dawn en sus respectivas series creo que lo llevaron a Ash a desear bajar tantos peldaños en su actitud para cuando llegó a Unova. En Hoenn y la Batalla de la Frontera Ash no sólo tenía que ocuparse de ganar sus gimnasios sin la ayuda de Misty sino que además debía estar pendiente de cuidar a May, Max y Dawn ya sea física o emocionalmente cada vez que estaban en peligro por novatas o perdían en un Pokemon Contest; la despedida de Brock simbolizaba de que Ash se debería hacer cargo por sí sólo de cuidar a la próxima novata que quisiera ser su compañera de viaje, pero al relajarse y comportarse como un inmaduro, no se topó con ninguna Hilda, Rosa, Bianca (la inestable Bianca sólo fue rival y no compañera de viaje, ya que de haberlo sido, habría sido quizas una carga en las emociones de Ash) Serena, Clemont o Lillie en Unova sinó que en su lugar tuvo a Iris y Cilan que pudieron brindarle el apoyo competitivo y moral que Ash necesitaba en ese momento. Ya para la llegada de XY, Alola y Journeys, Ash ya estaba listo para respaldar y ser el guía, apoyo y mentor de los más débiles emocionalmente como Serena, Clemont, Sawyer, Lillie y Goh (y por eso no vimos a Iris, Misty o Paul en XY ya que eran un personajes muy fuertes y seguros de si mismos como para toparse con el Ash de XY, que era igual de seguro y decidido (aunque haber visto a una Serena derrotando con su Sylveon a algún dragón de Iris y ganando así su única batalla en la saga hubiese sido una trama interesante. Perdón por tanto texto, sólo quería resaltar algo último: es interesante como algunos personajes de la serie se plantean sus metas con ver los propósitos de otros personajes. En el caso de May ella se comparó con Ash y Brock en uno de los últimos episodios de Battle Frontier donde se mostró su reflexión y capítulos después decidió alejarse de ellos. Lo mismo pasó con Brock en el penultimo episodio de DP en donde vio que Ash y Dawn iban por sus metas y él mismo se preguntó por su propio camino para así posteriormente decidir ser Doctor abandonando a Ash y Dawn. Finalmente lo más llamativo fue cuando le pasó a Ash en el último episodio de Best Wishes y en ese instante se lo notó decidido a brillar en Kalos percatandose él mismo de que se había relajado en exceso junto a Cilan e Iris. Supongo que pronto volverá Ash ya que luego de ganar el Campeonato Mundial, fue derrotado por Misty y así como Gary lo llevó a viajar a Johto (tras vencerlo luego de Orange League) y a Sinnoh (tras vencerlo luego de Battle Frontier), yo creo que Ash se ha dado cuenta de que su título de campeón no significa ser el más fuerte del mundo etermamente. Ash venció a Gary una sola vez contra dos veces que perdió contra él, pero tuvo la suerte de derrotarlo justamente en la Liga Johto, pero no se debería relajar, lo mismo pasa cuando derrotó a Lionel, ya que Ash tuvo muchos privilegios en esa batalla final y no debería dejarse descansar o perderá el título pronto. Thank you so much for making this video! BW has its flaws, sure, but it also has a lot of positive qualities and it's definitely overhated. As for Ash, it's honestly infuriating that BW haters ALWAYS cherry pick the same moments to make Ash look bad (like the Snivy/Elesa battles) and pretend that's how he acts during the whole BW series when that's not true at all. He has a lot of great moments during the series that people forget or simply ignore. I have the feeling that many anipoke fans perceive anything that isn't Ash being portrayed as a badass who has everything under control as a disrespect to his character LOL

Exactly, some people believe that Ash not being cool or flashy automatically means that he's being disrespected as a character when that's not true, since Ash's core character trait has always been how compassionate he is towards Pokémon, which is something BW absolutely excelled at showing. I guess that's why so many people love XY Ash and consider it an "upgrade", bc in that series they made Ash overly cool and badass with its "epic" moments. And I'm not talking out of my ass: I remember reading an interview where the director of the XY series revealed that he wanted to create a "cool Ash" that everyone could look up to. Actually really like this anime the reason why I like this anime is because it got me into Pokemon in the first place if this anime never got me into Pokemon and I wouldn't really be a Pokemon fan the show helped me become a fan of Pokemon

Yes the zekrom incident is a big factor but i think early bw was kind of all over the place and rushed, obviously the eq wasn't a good thing at all but maybe the writers needed that time to slow down bc they were trying to push the whole plasma vs rocket plot. Dont get me wrong i like a couple of early bw eps its just rushed. Like after nimbasa it slows down quite a bit. So bw ash isn't too bad but doesn't deserve all the hate
First of all, Pikachu wasn't weakened, just overloaded Secondly, he could still use the iron tail and Quick Attack Thirdly, electric attacks are not very effective against grass types Fourth, when Pikachu regains his electric attacks, he loses to panpour 🙄
Hi. Thanks for the support! I address all 3 of those first points in the video. 😁Pikachu was weakened, disoriented and overcharged. Since it could not use its electric type moves and it also became exhausted faster than usual due to all of that going on and exerting himself. Despite using its other moves. Also as for number 3. I know that, if you were paying attention I also explained very specifically in the video how the anime likes to bend the rules with that stuff and do their own thing. And for number 4. Ash’s Pikachu also lost to Viola in a similar but probably a more humiliating fashion. Despite Ash being in a similar situation before with the ice. And Pikachu was not nerfed by anything like Zekrom in BW, so that had less excuses to happen. I’d keep that same energy there too with that logic if that’s what we are gonna do. Yet nobody bats an eye because XY is cool and flashy so it gets a pass. 🤷🏽♂️ Idk what else to tell you. But I hope you have a good evening.
Ah Black and White series, the one reason I started to love and learn more about pokemon. When you mention Pikachu losing to Snivy in the early episodes, that reminds me of paralyzed status effect. But isn't Pikachu an electric type?? How can electric types get paralyzed?? Well, the immunity was only introduced in gen 6, meaning electric types getting paralyzed in gen 5 was a thing ( or at least in my theory ) Idc if BW Ash choice of pokemons for battle are bad. Ash still manage to pull it off despite type diadvantage. Example: Cilen's Pansage vs Ash's Oshawott

Look I'm not trying to bash you for liking BW but from someone who also grow up watching BW when it was airing, BW Ash is objectively one of the worst Ash. Because like so what Pikachu couldn't use his electric attacks against Trip's Snivy? He still had iron tail and that should have been enough. And still doesn't explain why he kept losing to Trip so badly despite him having way more experiences. And also the reason why people bringing his battle with Elesa so much is because it's the perfect example of everything what's wrong with BW Ash. He's an idiot who keeps making newbie mistakes or just dumb and bad decisions that he should have absolutely known better than to do. So battles like Ash vs Skyla don't get talked much is it's expected from him as we know already what he's capable of so we aren't really going to talk about it unless it was REALLY amazing. The rusty argument is just headcanon.
Pokemon Black and White is the first worst that I ever watched, because at first I was fine with first season when Ash manage to catch more Pokemon in the Unova region than any region that he visited on his journey. However so far in the seasons he manage to get a few of his pokemon to evolve fully like Unfezant, Leavanny and Krookodile, but the others haven't had a chance to evolve way up to their fully evolved form especially Ash's Unova starter pokemon. Although Ash's pignite did evolve once but the other two haven't in fact in the third and final Pokemon Black and White series none of Ash's Unova Pokrmon (Pignite, Snivy, Oshawott, Scraggy, Boldore and Palitoad) didn't get this chance to evolve which one of the biggest disappoint of any Pokemon anime season history. The Unova League Vertress Conference quarter finals is a complete joke as Ash battle that amateur Cameron who is always forgetful, late and gets information wrong like the time when he though he had to earn 7 badges and used five Pokemon in a full battle in the league. Seriously I still can't believe Ash would used Oshawott in the first match against Cameron's super powerful Hydreigon and then it was defeated easily. Which is why Ash have lost in the quarter finals because of his stupidy and bad choice of the Pokemon that he is using. I mean he could have used his old Pokemon from Professor Oak's Lab instead of using the Pokemon that he caught in the Unova Region. It's a shame that Ash and Virgil never gotten this chance to battle each other in the Unova League because it would be very interesting if Ash has a six full battle with the Eevee evolution like Virgil's Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Umbreon, Leafeon and Sylveon (if Virgil's Eevee suddenly evolved during the battle). What else doesn't make any sense in the first series of Pokemon Black and White is all mess up because originally Team Rocket Jessia and James were in Black uniform and even though their personalites have change from comedy trio to professional agents. But now they've gone back to to White uniform half way as well as their comedy personalitis throught the episodes that doesn't make sense at all. The same goes for the two parts episodes postones of Team Rocket VS Team Plasma that never aired since then or explain what has happen to the ancient rock they Team Rocket stole. So yeah this whole first series of Pokemon Black and White has gone down the drain. There's also issued that's never been resolved before Pokemon Black and White Series has come to the end like: 1. We never learn why Cilan was afraid of Purrlion in the first place, despite the fact that he final explain to Ash and Iris, but the background noise and screen where cut short so we never knew since then which is a disappointed. 2. Wish to get to see Ash battle Trip in the quarter final instead will full six battle so I could the rest of Trip's team from the previous episodes. 3. I would like to see Ash's Snivy's backstory more of why she left her previous trainer in the first place or even better battle her previous trainer and evolved into Servine just Ash's Pignite then later evolved into Serperior because it's my favourite final evolved Unova Starter Pokemon. 4.I don't like "Team Rocket's Shocking Recruit" because I would liked to Ash's Snivy and Iris's Emolga finally settling their difference and end their rivalry before they departed just like Clemont's Chespin and Serena's Pancham. 5. I still wished Ash's Oshawott evolved into Dewott and then to Samurott before Pokemon Black and White Series has end just like Ash's Greninja from Pokemon XY Series. Or evolved into Dewott in Pokemon BW Rival Destinies Season Finale because from what I remembered Oshawott had a huge crush on Meloetta. People tend to forget that Ash originally went to Unova ON VACATION with his mom and professor Oak. So given that context, it makes sense that Ash's journey in Unova was more laid-back and chill unlike his more serious journey in Sinnoh.

Thank you bro for your video. It's very sad how Best Wishes became most-hated throughout. It was my first series that got me into there. Yes, Ash was the most controversial thing in the series. It's just people hate him because he seems to reset. But I found him alright and enjoyable aside from few moments he had especially Elesa. Personally, I found Best Wishes and BW Ash negativity exaggerated. But despite the hatred they received, it's still remain my heart.

I've said it all this time that Snivy wasn't LEVEL 5.
I've looked through statements and I've never seen a statement that said Snivy was for sure level 5 just that it might have been it's first battle and that statement might have been said by TRIP himself which might only have the context of it being the first battle he sees it in for all we know these specific versions might have had some time out of their Pokéballs because that's just natural and maybe during that time even casual experience was enough.

Some might attribute that to Trip as a trainer but it's also very possible it just was that strong and you could argue got stronger in the fight while Pikachu would only be getting weaker and Snivy evolves quite quickly no matter what it even could have been at it's level for evolution but never evolved because it didn't have the right trainer.
I feel like people just make the excuse to want to hate on something and that's why the level 5 lie is so easily told.

It makes me sad that the community just likes to hop on the Best Wishes hate train just because it's popular to bash it. I grew up watching Diamond and Pearl then immediately jump to Best Wishes and love it. Sure it's not without it's flaws, but the hate for it is definitely over-exaggerated. In all honesty, people also forget that they were attempting to reset Ash at the time (hence why Ash thought like a beginner until after the Elesa battle).

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who acknowledges Zekrom's interference being the true reason behind Ash losing to Trip, as well as the fact that the anime doesn't follow *all* of the games' logic, because it would be more restricted and boring if they did follow the game logic through and through. Levels aren't a thing in the anime, so Pikachu doesn't get reset to Level 5 or whatever.
Even as someone who initially didn't like the Black and White Anime, I've always thought people saying they began seeing Black and White as being "bad" because of Pikachu losing to a Snivy from the Lab was a dumb nitpick, considering Zekrom had zapped out Pikachu's Electric Types moves for a bit.
What do I think of the Black and White Anime now, as an adult in my early-to-mid-20s? I think it's a C-Tier entry in the Pokémon Anime. Still a significant drop from the Advanced Generation and Diamond and Pearl Animes (Which are my favourites of the Anime, don't @ me for having AG as one of my two favourites), but not terrible either. While I still have some major issues with it (Such as Cameron being an idiot who should've been disqualified from the Unova League, or that Trip could've been handled better), at the same time it does have quite a few good qualities that the video above mentioned, such as Ash's bond with his Unova Pokemon, and him still being a goof, which makes BW Ash IMO still feel like the same Ash who woke up late on hist first day as a trainer and, as a result, was unable to choose either Squirtle, Bulbasaur or Charmander as his first partner (Unfortunately, XY Ash didn't make me feel that way). And tbh, I think I'd rather revisit BW moments than XY or SM moments. Granted, Gen 5 was the last Gen of New Pokémon I had found appealing to me personally until Gen 8 came along and made me go "Alright! Guess there's still something for me in Pokemon after all!" (So, yeah, contrary to most people, I quite like Gen 5's Pokemon and really like Gen 8's).
Admittedly, even back when I was 10, I was quite frustrated with the BW Anime. Gen 5 was probably the last Gen of Pokémon where quite a lot of the New Pokémon introduced in that Gen were quite appealing to me until Gen 8 (Don't @ me), and I'm a HUGE fan of the AG and DP Animes (They're my favourites if the Anime, and I like the OS Series a lot too), and it felt so detached from the first 4 Gens of the Anime, especially in the first season of BW.
But now, I can't help but feel maybe I a bit too hard on BW. While I don't suddenly love BW (I still think it's a bit frustrating), and I certainly really don't like the Victini Movies, I now consider BW a C-Tier Gen of the Anime, as I appreciate things about it.
1) All three Theme Songs are BANGERS I love listening to.
2) While I'm still not sure whether it was a good idea for BW to essentially amplify Ash's dumbfounded Ness sometimes, making him sometimes come across as annoying, he was at least still a goof, which has always been a vital part of Ash's character since the beginning of his journey. Heck, Ash was more mature in AG and DP than in the OS, yet he was still a big goof, giving a good balance between Goofiness and Development from the OS. Tbh, and I know I'm going to make A LOT of enemies with the next thing I'm going to say, but I kind of felt XY went to the OTHER extreme, where they overplayed his obliviousness, the whole "Science is SO Amazing" Trope annoyed me, and he didn't feel too much of a goof for me. So I can appreciate BW Ash for being quite the goof where I buy this is still the same Ash Ketchum who woke up VERY late for his first day as a Trainer. I can't really say I feel the same way about XY Ash (Unless there are moments I'm forgetting).
3) The Kyurem vs. Sword of Justice Movie was actually okay for me.
4) I used to find Iris and Cilan disappointing and annoying, but in light of XY and Journeys, where in the former, I found Clemont, Bonnie and Serena even more disappointing and quite off-putting, and in the latter, I actually enjoyed Iris and Cilan as characters, and their interactions with some of Ash's other companions like Goh and Misty, it has made me realised that Iris and Cilan maybe aren't bad characters so much that they were maybe just a bad combination with each other. Ntm, at least Iris was her own character rather than being defined by her dynamic/relationship with Ash (Something I felt her successor was).
5) BW, while did feel like a restart in many ways, at least the series in its second brought back Charizard and recounted his story in the OS, made reference to Brock and the Battle Frontier, and had Dawn and Cynthia return for a few episodes, showing this very much was still a continuation from the OS, AG and DP. Heck, you have Ash in the final episode of BW thinking about ALL of his Companions (Misty, Brock, Tracey, May (Get Well Soon Kaori), Max, Dawn, Iris and Cilan).
6) I do agree BW gave Ash too many Pokémon, and I wish some of them like Snivy and Oshawott (Seriously, what does the Anime have against evolving Ash's Water Types? The only ones who did evolve he either barely uses or released) had evolved. Ntm, Dewott's one of my favourite Middle Stages of Water Starters alongside Croconaw, Marshtomp, Frogadier and Drizzile. And I do wish Ash had caught a Braviary or a Pansear, but his Unova team isn't terrible. Krookodile and Snivy are standouts for me. Plus, they were his last team in a pre-Mega Evolution world (Not really a fan of Mega Evolution as I feel it makes each Pokémon's Special Abilities like Static and Torrent fell a little redundant)

No fue hasta en el último episodio de BW que Ash despertó cuando miró al cielo y recordó que sus amigos y rivales estaban cumpliendo sus objetivos menos él, e incluso a inicios de XY Ash siguió manteniendo la Actitud de Best Wishes hasta que llegó Serena a hacerlo reaccionar. Otro tema son los compañeros de viaje... Ash siempre se comportó inmaduro en las temporadas donde no hacía de tutor o de experimentado del grupo (May, Max, Dawn, Serena, Clemont, Lillie y demás Compañeros de Alola y Goh siempre lo vieron como alguien admirable mientras que Misty, Brock, Tracey, Iris, Cilan y Chloe no lo admiraban como los otros personajes).
Por último... lo que le pasó a Ash en Unova es bastante coherente y común. El caso más similar es el de Lionel Messi tras llegar a las finales de la Copa del Mundo 2014, Copa América 2015 y Copa América 2016, y al perder en las tres finales renunció a la selección. Pero cuando regresó dejó de tener el mismo rendimiento haciendo que en la Copa del Mundo de 2018 ni siquiera pudo ganar en un penalty vs Icelan. Le tomó un par de años recuperar el ritmo hasta ganar por fin un título con la selección argentina finalmente en 2021. El retroceso de Ash en Unova es más coherente de lo que parece, y todo fue por la batalla con tobias sumado a la cantidad de veces que Gary lo ha vencido luego de que Ash había obtenido un título grande para ponerle los pies sobre la tierra!

Creo que la pérdida que tuvo contra Tobías, alguien que usó legendarios y míticos molestó a Ash hasta cierto punto. Si yo estuviera en esa posición, usando todo lo que tenía, solo para perder contra alguien que tuviera esos tipo de Pokémon, me sentiría de la misma manera que Ash.

Yo creo que el anime de Pokemon tuvo un trasfondo que no se materializó en la emisión de anime. Lo que ocurre en el último capítulo de Diamante y Perla hasta el inicio del primer episodio de Best Wishes ocurrieron muchas cosas en el medio que no nos lo han narrado. Yo creo que en ese lapso de tiempo Ash ha tenido una vida muy relajada como lo hizo en los episodios de "Ultimate Journeys, To Be a Pokémon Master". La depresión que le agarró a Ash cuando Gary le preguntó si ya era una Pokemon Master, es muy similar a cuando en el último episodio de Best Wishes Ash recuerda que todos sus amigos estan trabajando por sus propios propósitos mientras él se tomó unas vacaciones mentales durante todo Best Whishes y Decolora (y lo digo porque a veces las personas nos tomamos unas vacaciones mentales de nuestras obligaciones, por ejemplo asistimos a la universidad con un rendimiento inferior al habitual luego de alguna decepsión). También la partida de Brock pudo haberlo impactado y trató de volver a sus origenes psicologicamente reflejando a Iris y Cilan como lo eran sus primeros acompañantes (Misty y Brock) para volver a vivir esos recuerdos de cuando ganar medallas se le hacía tan fácil que se las regalaban (como en Kanto). Creo que Battle Frontier fue de por sí demasiado extresante y más aún que luego de eso viajó a Sinnoh sin poder disfrutar su logro frente a Brandom ya que Gary lo derrotó al instante sin dejarlo disfrutar, peor aún el estres de tener un nuevo rival como Paul. A Messi le pasaba parecido puesto que luego de tener una Final muy reñida contra Alemania (Tobias), perdió dos finales ocasiones consecutivas contra un rival novato en una final de américa: Chile (Trip).
Agregaré un último dato más: el estrés que generaba ser un ejemplo a seguir para el grupo y tener que hacerse cargo de levantarle el ánimo a May y Dawn en sus respectivas series creo que lo llevaron a Ash a desear bajar tantos peldaños en su actitud para cuando llegó a Unova. En Hoenn y la Batalla de la Frontera Ash no sólo tenía que ocuparse de ganar sus gimnasios sin la ayuda de Misty sino que además debía estar pendiente de cuidar a May, Max y Dawn ya sea física o emocionalmente cada vez que estaban en peligro por novatas o perdían en un Pokemon Contest; la despedida de Brock simbolizaba de que Ash se debería hacer cargo por sí sólo de cuidar a la próxima novata que quisiera ser su compañera de viaje, pero al relajarse y comportarse como un inmaduro, no se topó con ninguna Hilda, Rosa, Bianca (la inestable Bianca sólo fue rival y no compañera de viaje, ya que de haberlo sido, habría sido quizas una carga en las emociones de Ash) Serena, Clemont o Lillie en Unova sinó que en su lugar tuvo a Iris y Cilan que pudieron brindarle el apoyo competitivo y moral que Ash necesitaba en ese momento. Ya para la llegada de XY, Alola y Journeys, Ash ya estaba listo para respaldar y ser el guía, apoyo y mentor de los más débiles emocionalmente como Serena, Clemont, Sawyer, Lillie y Goh (y por eso no vimos a Iris, Misty o Paul en XY ya que eran un personajes muy fuertes y seguros de si mismos como para toparse con el Ash de XY, que era igual de seguro y decidido (aunque haber visto a una Serena derrotando con su Sylveon a algún dragón de Iris y ganando así su única batalla en la saga hubiese sido una trama interesante.
Perdón por tanto texto, sólo quería resaltar algo último: es interesante como algunos personajes de la serie se plantean sus metas con ver los propósitos de otros personajes. En el caso de May ella se comparó con Ash y Brock en uno de los últimos episodios de Battle Frontier donde se mostró su reflexión y capítulos después decidió alejarse de ellos. Lo mismo pasó con Brock en el penultimo episodio de DP en donde vio que Ash y Dawn iban por sus metas y él mismo se preguntó por su propio camino para así posteriormente decidir ser Doctor abandonando a Ash y Dawn. Finalmente lo más llamativo fue cuando le pasó a Ash en el último episodio de Best Wishes y en ese instante se lo notó decidido a brillar en Kalos percatandose él mismo de que se había relajado en exceso junto a Cilan e Iris. Supongo que pronto volverá Ash ya que luego de ganar el Campeonato Mundial, fue derrotado por Misty y así como Gary lo llevó a viajar a Johto (tras vencerlo luego de Orange League) y a Sinnoh (tras vencerlo luego de Battle Frontier), yo creo que Ash se ha dado cuenta de que su título de campeón no significa ser el más fuerte del mundo etermamente. Ash venció a Gary una sola vez contra dos veces que perdió contra él, pero tuvo la suerte de derrotarlo justamente en la Liga Johto, pero no se debería relajar, lo mismo pasa cuando derrotó a Lionel, ya que Ash tuvo muchos privilegios en esa batalla final y no debería dejarse descansar o perderá el título pronto.

As for Ash, it's honestly infuriating that BW haters ALWAYS cherry pick the same moments to make Ash look bad (like the Snivy/Elesa battles) and pretend that's how he acts during the whole BW series when that's not true at all. He has a lot of great moments during the series that people forget or simply ignore.
I have the feeling that many anipoke fans perceive anything that isn't Ash being portrayed as a badass who has everything under control as a disrespect to his character LOL

Exactly, some people believe that Ash not being cool or flashy automatically means that he's being disrespected as a character when that's not true, since Ash's core character trait has always been how compassionate he is towards Pokémon, which is something BW absolutely excelled at showing.
I guess that's why so many people love XY Ash and consider it an "upgrade", bc in that series they made Ash overly cool and badass with its "epic" moments. And I'm not talking out of my ass: I remember reading an interview where the director of the XY series revealed that he wanted to create a "cool Ash" that everyone could look up to. Yes the zekrom incident is a big factor but i think early bw was kind of all over the place and rushed, obviously the eq wasn't a good thing at all but maybe the writers needed that time to slow down bc they were trying to push the whole plasma vs rocket plot. Dont get me wrong i like a couple of early bw eps its just rushed. Like after nimbasa it slows down quite a bit. So bw ash isn't too bad but doesn't deserve all the hate

Hi. Thanks for the support! I address all 3 of those first points in the video. 😁Pikachu was weakened, disoriented and overcharged. Since it could not use its electric type moves and it also became exhausted faster than usual due to all of that going on and exerting himself. Despite using its other moves.
Also as for number 3. I know that, if you were paying attention I also explained very specifically in the video how the anime likes to bend the rules with that stuff and do their own thing.
And for number 4. Ash’s Pikachu also lost to Viola in a similar but probably a
more humiliating fashion. Despite Ash being in a similar situation before with the ice. And Pikachu was not nerfed by anything like Zekrom in BW, so that had less excuses to happen. I’d keep that same energy there too with that logic if that’s what we are gonna do. Yet nobody bats an eye because XY is cool and flashy so it gets a pass. 🤷🏽♂️ Idk what else to tell you. Ah Black and White series, the one reason I started to love and learn more about pokemon. When you mention Pikachu losing to Snivy in the early episodes, that reminds me of paralyzed status effect.
But isn't Pikachu an electric type?? How can electric types get paralyzed?? Well, the immunity was only introduced in gen 6, meaning electric types getting paralyzed in gen 5 was a thing ( or at least in my theory )
Idc if BW Ash choice of pokemons for battle are bad. Ash still manage to pull it off despite type diadvantage. Example: Cilen's Pansage vs Ash's Oshawott

Look I'm not trying to bash you for liking BW but from someone who also grow up watching BW when it was airing, BW Ash is objectively one of the worst Ash. Because like so what Pikachu couldn't use his electric attacks against Trip's Snivy? He still had iron tail and that should have been enough. And still doesn't explain why he kept losing to Trip so badly despite him having way more experiences.
And also the reason why people bringing his battle with Elesa so much is because it's the perfect example of everything what's wrong with BW Ash. He's an idiot who keeps making newbie mistakes or just dumb and bad decisions that he should have absolutely known better than to do. So battles like Ash vs Skyla don't get talked much is it's expected from him as we know already what he's capable of so we aren't really going to talk about it unless it was REALLY amazing.

Pokemon Black and White is the first worst that I ever watched, because at first I was fine with first season when Ash manage to catch more Pokemon in the Unova region than any region that he visited on his journey. However so far in the seasons he manage to get a few of his pokemon to evolve fully like Unfezant, Leavanny and Krookodile, but the others haven't had a chance to evolve way up to their fully evolved form especially Ash's Unova starter pokemon.
Although Ash's pignite did evolve once but the other two haven't in fact in the third and final Pokemon Black and White series none of Ash's Unova Pokrmon (Pignite, Snivy, Oshawott, Scraggy, Boldore and Palitoad) didn't get this chance to evolve which one of the biggest disappoint of any Pokemon anime season history.
The Unova League Vertress Conference quarter finals is a complete joke as Ash battle that amateur Cameron who is always forgetful, late and gets information wrong like the time when he though he had to earn 7 badges and used five Pokemon in a full battle in the league.
Seriously I still can't believe Ash would used Oshawott in the first match against Cameron's super powerful Hydreigon and then it was defeated easily. Which is why Ash have lost in the quarter finals because of his stupidy and bad choice of the Pokemon that he is using. I mean he could have used his old Pokemon from Professor Oak's Lab instead of using the Pokemon that he caught in the Unova Region.
It's a shame that Ash and Virgil never gotten this chance to battle each other in the Unova League because it would be very interesting if Ash has a six full battle with the Eevee evolution like Virgil's Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Umbreon, Leafeon and Sylveon (if Virgil's Eevee suddenly evolved during the battle).
What else doesn't make any sense in the first series of Pokemon Black and White is all mess up because originally Team Rocket Jessia and James were in Black uniform and even though their personalites have change from comedy trio to professional agents. But now they've gone back to to White uniform half way as well as their comedy personalitis throught the episodes that doesn't make sense at all.
The same goes for the two parts episodes postones of Team Rocket VS Team Plasma that never aired since then or explain what has happen to the ancient rock they Team Rocket stole. So yeah this whole first series of Pokemon Black and White has gone down the drain.
There's also issued that's never been resolved before Pokemon Black and White Series has come to the end like:
1. We never learn why Cilan was afraid of Purrlion in the first place, despite the fact that he final explain to Ash and Iris, but the background noise and screen where cut short so we never knew since then which is a disappointed.
2. Wish to get to see Ash battle Trip in the quarter final instead will full six battle so I could the rest of Trip's team from the previous episodes.
3. I would like to see Ash's Snivy's backstory more of why she left her previous trainer in the first place or even better battle her previous trainer and evolved into Servine just Ash's Pignite then later evolved into Serperior because it's my favourite final evolved Unova Starter Pokemon.
4.I don't like "Team Rocket's Shocking Recruit" because I would liked to Ash's Snivy and Iris's Emolga finally settling their difference and end their rivalry before they departed just like Clemont's Chespin and Serena's Pancham.
5. I still wished Ash's Oshawott evolved into Dewott and then to Samurott before Pokemon Black and White Series has end just like Ash's Greninja from Pokemon XY Series. Or evolved into Dewott in Pokemon BW Rival Destinies Season Finale because from what I remembered Oshawott had a huge crush on Meloetta. And if I was the writer for this Series I could make Ash's Oshawott have evolved into Dewott happened at last as it battle against Giovanni and his minions in order to save Meloetta👍.
