Genius! Making you’re own DR test this way! I kinda want to do this! Not everyone has Gerald’s Undone money but still want to tests their own gear!
Hey hey again Alpaco!
Haha in my brain it made sense if all the chart chips were just full stops. Glad to see that it does work as Gerald and I both came up with the number 12 stops of dynamic range at the Lower ISO range!
Jerald said that native iso is around 1100 to 1400… but there is much more noise …
It's not that there is more noise, perse, but that the sensor starts soft capping the dynamic range at lower ISOs. With any camera as you raise the ISO more noise is introduced, with the exception of a dual gain sensor, but typically the base ISO for any gain setting is the iso with the most amount of dynamic range and often the lowest quantity of noise with that dynamic range. On the iPhone 15 pro max ISO 1100 seemed to be the base ISO because it had the most dynamic range with the least amount of noise.
What Bill said. You honestly don't see all that much Noise at 1100-1400 in a practical scene unless the entire scene on average is dark. Otherwise I'd say its acceptable for those that need a little extra dynamic range.
Great upload, sadly Gerald already uploaded his test yesterday.. I watch anyway, great that you are back!
I still appreciate you watching mine too! I didn't think he would cover this, but he beat me to my upload haha. Though I'm glad to see that my jank Xyla chart was able to give me similar visual results (approximately) haha
Hi there dude! I’m download the black magic apps on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. i have in Record CoDec- Apple ProRes 422HQ / Apple ProRes 422 / Apple ProRes 422LT / Apple ProRes 422 Proxy / HEVC ( H.265) / H.264 but I’m got missing Apple ProRes 4444 😓 Please help me dude?
Prores 4444 was removed in update 1.1. Based on my testings it did not seem to be real 4444, so recording in the codec was not achieving any benefits. Maybe it could come back in a later version if they do figure out a way to record true 4444. But for now it was just a large file with no real benefit over 422 HQ
Great diy xyla! Surprisingly good DR.
I was very surprised that my DIY Xyla gave me similar results to Gerald! Granted I was just looking at the waveform and not able to have a computer analyze it. When he said 12stops at the lower ISO's, I was like.... IT WORKS! haha
Thank you for doing this!
You're most welcome!
