Ep23 VW 73 Westy transmission and axle are out

Thanks for your constant support on the channel. It’s always recommended to replace them for new whenever you do maintenance on the CV; but when I can I always try to use the original, they are much better quality. But I can tell these axle boots once were replaced. They must have misplaced some of the bolts and replaced them by T bolts.

Clean and save those OEM bolts and spacers whenever possible. The new replacements suck big time! Maybe this is a good time to check the CV joints and boots. I bet you can get away with cleaning and regreasing the original ones and only changing the rubber boots.
The problem with cutting the heads of the bolts is that now you need the whole length of them as added distance to be able to remove the CV joint; that was a nightmare.
