Every time I see a gauntlet track I think of that 1950 Rockville Centre crash on the LIRR that killed like 30-some people. I believe they were removing the grade crossings back then and had to create a gauntlet track to run the regular trains. And later on that year, there was an even deadlier crash in Kew Gardens.
My father was a railway fan and took me for train spotting before I was ten years old, fifty years ago in the early seventies. What a great remembrance. Much later we swapped the roles, but never gave up that obsession. Even silent tracks have got that special something when there is no train anywhere in sight. Only some people can understand this. Thanks for sharing your videos.
Great Video,Where the old Schering Plough factory was on Morris Avenue,is now a mix of retail, residential, dining, and commercial operations, and there once was a spur track leading into the factoruy
My family lived a couple blocks away from the Roselle Park Station (next station to the S/W) and my dad is a Kean alumnus. Thanks so much for giving me a glimpse of things long-forgotten!!!
25:50 I was on 5735 yesterday, riding in a vestibule near the front, so I was well positioned to say those double PL42's only smelled slightly better than the garbage train. Those two have been working together for months and I can only assume from the smell of things that they're working together because one has some kind of engine fault that makes it consume a lot of oil.
@@3985uprr you’re right! I can see the wheel trucks of a tank car at 33:05 showing the opposite side wheels are on the outer rail. Sure looks close to the platform though!
Nice shots! Union is a pretty good spot. But when I'm here I usually stand west of the station where a gravel road adjacent to the tracks gives me some space between the trains and myself and the views aren't obstructed by all the stuff on the platform. I also like like the low-level angle better. And I've asked a few people and no, it's not trespassing.
That is a great spot!!! I have to check that out. Love your commentary my friend. You probably see the same NS and CSX I do. I catch them out further West.
I like to see you in the videos. You give great narrations with lots of important historical info and explanations. I 9:53 always imagined you to have the friendly, positive personality you face exudes-sun shades or not. I consider your videos “Top Shelf” sorry about the Eagles.
I have been enjoying your channel, great job! I live in CT and especially liked the Metro North and CT Rail trips that you took, I use MN quite a bit and I really like the history facts and the information about the systems and rail lines that you provide for us. By coincidence, I just commissioned a new fire pump assembly around the corner from the spot you are at right now! Nice sunglasses!
Thank you for your film. The ALP 45DP look good in your video. You can pay attention to it, but the last 5 locomotives of this series will no longer be Bombardier but Alstom. The Bombardier plant in Kassel/ Germany where the ALP45 DP is built has been sold to Alstom with a few other bombardier plants. Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven
@@3985uprr Yes, the ALP 46 and ALP 45DP have their roots and basis in the German 101 series. The 101 runs in Germany in front of Intercity and Eurocity trains. However, the first machines of the 101 have already been scrapped at Bender in Leverkusen-Opladen.
That sure was a nice sunny winter afternoon in Joyzee. I’m glad that you mentioned the similar passenger car colours between yours and CN (now VIA Rail). I rode in those cars many moons ago. They were virtually indestructible 😂 Keep rail fanning! All the best. Atlantic 🇨🇦 (up the coast)
It seems that since the FAA mandated PTC for all American railroads, all NJTransit Comet sets have been led by Comet V cab cars with Comet II/III/IV trailers. It seems NJTransit upgraded their Comet V cab cars to include PTC compliance but haven't touched the older cab cars, as I haven't seen Comet II/III/IV cab cars leading any train since.
I was about to ask what the inside rails were for. I thought maybe some kind of narrow gauge but you went on to explain it!! Great narration sir and greetings from your neighbor in Long Island!!
Thanks for posting Mr. Retired Railfan Horn Guy...Question: Did you provide video and/or narration for some Green Frog Videos on Conrail a few years back and Railroad Video Productions in the late 1980's and in the 1990's. My son and I were watching some and the voice sounded like you...Happy Railfanning and be well, Vincent Zablocki
Just a minor correction: at 19:42 and at 21:11 you mentioned train "5472", when in fact it was 5742. Trains that run between High Bridge and Newark have "57XX" train numbers. Trains between Raritan and Newark have "54XX" train numbers.
I rode on many of those EM cars. Smooth riding, comfortable, and they sounded solid on jointed rail. They even made a few into Dayniter cars. Those were real nice on the inside. The first time I rode on one was September 1972 on the Cavalier to Toronto. That evening USSR humiliated Canada 7-3 in game 1 of Summit Series. The train was like a morgue.
The p42DC wasn't built to be a commuter train. It wouldn't alline with their schedules being that they take longer to get going compared to the PL42AC, which was built for Commuter service. The P42DC is for long distance.
Nice catch 7 freights 😮my 8 year old would love to go there, plus njt which s his favorite 😍 is it always this active with freight?? Is there certian days that are better ??
Not sure if you and your subscribers/viewers are aware of this......but supposedly there is a self propelled design of the multi level cars in the works.
I really enjoy your videos and your narration - thank you for sharing your passion with the masses!
My pleasure! I try to make the dialogue entertaining.

Well done! Fantastic footage. That is a really busy line.
Great railfanning spot!! Good mix of passenger and freight trains. And I would wear sunglasses on a bright, sunny day!!
Thanks Tim😀💚
Looking good
Another great video. Look like someone forgot to hit the switch on that last freight, right up next to the platform
love the opening commentary!
your videos very informative - thank you.

Wow, the number of trains that go by remind me of Elwood Blues apartment in the Blue Brothers.
🤣🤣
You are too funny! But my #1 rail fanner😊
Very nice video! Looked like CSX M403 was using the inner set of rails coming through the station. 32:17
No I’m sure he was using the outer rail because I could see the trucks

Pretty neat how they have freight tracks and passenger tracks. Not sure why you don’t see them in other networks.
Rare mixture. Mainly it’s due to the high platform. Trying to avoid unwanted redesigning
its actually pretty common in the US

They do resemble some of the DB electric locos. They were built by Adtranz

That gauntlet is governed by a lunar signal - a bluish-white aspect, which is another of NJT's rare commodities.
I enjoy that video👍👍
Cool! Your videos always satisfy.
The first video where I actually saw your face! Keep up the great videos
Townley is a section of Union. Union is the largest town in the US that ranks as large in area as a medium size city.

Yes
Before the Vs the Comet IVs were the last to be leading until 2012 I believe. It's been V's ever since.
If you ever get a chance, go to Folkston Georgia

Union Nj is a great location for a railcam
I spotted a Comet 3 cab car in the consist.
This is where I grew up along the Lehigh Valley.

Yes I did.
There’s a conrail towny defect detector right there and it’s still in use
The NJT locomotives appears to be hybrid diesel and overhead electric cable. Does the LIRR use them too but with the 3rd rail?

Wasn’t 100 percent. Freudian slip. Got the digits right
You are right about the CN look on the comet cars. Just replace the NJT stripes with the CN wet noodle logo.

nice video
Try and go railfanning at Alexandria station in Virginia
It seems u get freight trains often there, do u know around how long it takes for a freight train to come apart from another
About 25-30 a day
I am still wondering why NJT never got the P42DC over the PL42AC
I’m glad they didn’t

Where do the trains switch to Cantenary into Penn Station?
Newark
You should make a video where you railfan union and then north Elizabeth, they are very close to each other
Did that 2 years ago
I can’t find the video

Usually busy. Midweek to late week is best. This was on a Tuesday.
did you by chance narrate Central New York Rails? Your voice and narration style sound very similar.
Yes I did. Good old Conrail.
How do u get the freight train information?

NS 11N Had 9 cars
NS 28X Had 39 cars
CSX M422 Had 80 cars
CSX M032 Had 40 cars
NS 23G Had 75 cars
