  • Railroad Diamond In Middle Of Highway, CSX Freight Train In Lakeland Florida & Both Sides Of Amtrak Train At The Train Station. Phosphate train is in Mulberry, Florida. The CSX freight train and Amtrak passenger train is in Lakeland, Florida near the Amtrak station. Mulberry is just south of Lakeland and both places are great for rail fanning except Mulberry doesn't have as many trains as Lakeland. There is a Best Western motel in Mulberry with a perfect view of the tracks. We stayed there for a week and I could watch trains while laying on the bed. It seemed to me that there were more trains in the dark than in the light although with the time change that might help.
The first train is an Amtrak train running between New York City and Miami. We filmed both sides of it passing through the downtown no train horn zone. The next stop for them is Tampa and then they pass by here again in less than two hours while resuming the journey to Miami.
Then we see a CSX freight train heading in the opposite direction. Amtrak follows on their trip to Miami. We got Amtrak coming and going on the same trip. Best frequencies here are 160.590 and 160.230 along with the EOT frequency of 452.9375. Tampa is near the end of the track so Amtrak has to go out of the way on the branch line. They turn around in Ybor City. I have a video showing how they turn around on the wye in Ybor City which is just east of Tampa.
Then we see a phosphate train late at night in Mulberry, Florida. I used my wife's camera for this train since it does better at night than mine. I posted another video of a train at this diamond about a week ago and I used my camera. Let me know if you can see a difference. In the daylight I filmed the area around the diamond but just could not get a train in the light. A man approached me and asked why I was filming his business and I told him it was interesting but I was filming the railroad diamond that was next to it. He said trains run there all day long but I sure didn't see that during the week that I was there. Best frequencies here are 161.370, 160.230 and the EOT.
After the trains we see some more wildlife that we filmed in parks nearby. There was one train that I just barely missed on a Monday morning. We went by the tracks and then started hiking at a nearby park. Minutes after we got on a trail I heard a phosphate train approaching. There was no way to get it in time.
Filmed end of February, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Just north of that diamond, my family had a pharmacy. As a toddler I would run down the sidewalk and wave at the crew on steam engines and the crew on the caboose. Mulberry calls itself the phosphate capital of the world. Yup, I am old. Cheers and stay safe.

GT, I would say that the wife got the money shot of Amtrak leaving the station. On the second freight, I could not tell if it was darkness or stuff blowing off the train. And, as far as filming in the dark, there is no reason why you could not buy an external LED spot light for filming with your phone camera. If the media does it, why not do it yourself. Of course, might freak out the train engineer! 👍👍👍👍

Jaw Tooth; my wife and I took the Silver Star from New York City to Orlando in 2015. We were the first train to pass through the Carolinas following the Hurricane that went through there in October. It was a great Train Ride. I see we did not get to Lakeland as it is further south but it looks typical of the other parts of Florida. We had a great time visiting from Australia. Would have liked to stay longer but you know what vacations are like. Amtrak does a great train ride but I wish they would pay their employees more, especially their train crew.
    Love your videos.

The Amtrak train going to and coming back from Tampa was neat to watch. Mrs. Tooth's video of the Amtrak train at Lakeland, Florida was great. I noticed that the CSX mixed freight picked up speed after a while. I thought that the reason for the train picking up speed was because the engines had passed through the business area of Lakeland, so the train was allowed to go faster. I did not realize that the train was coming up a slight grade. That track diamond in the middle of the street in Mulberry, Florida is a fascinating location to watch trains. It would have been nice if you could have caught some train action at that diamond crossing during daylight hours. The wildlife in the swamp near the end of the video was nice to see. That heron was a beautiful looking bird.

Just watched your video, we are from Lakeland . Good video work. The EB freight was M453 that runs Waycross, GA to Miami ,FL. They had probably just left Winston Yard , which is Southwest of town after setting out or picking up, as needed. The BV has declined , in the amount of rail traffic , over the last several years. The Phosphate Mining operations in the Bone Valley, could last as long 2050, slowly winding down by 2050.

Re the CSX train. I particulary noticed the gates. They came down and some seconds after, the train hit the crossing. Normally, the gates come down and 1 to 2 minutes later the train comes through. I know this is weird, but, these gates are much more efficient for everyone, then the 1-2 minute ones.
And when JT mentioned the grade, so much for my thinking that the engineer gave'er the gas, after he crossed the crossing.
First time I've seen an Amtrak GE. Didnt know they had any.
Anyway, a great video. Thankyou JT!

The building in the background at 0:36 with the arched window is the old Lakeland Cash Feed Company. They had a siding behind the building (Amtrak side) for unloading animal feed. They also had an auger. That siding went on down further and served the Lake Mirror power plant and a janitorial supply company. If you go further east on the main, you can see where the track splits. (Use Google maps.) The track that turns south (actually southeast) is a remaining portion of the Naples, FL branch. It went all the way down to Naples through Bartow, Ft. Meade, Wauchula, Arcadia, Punta Gorda, Ft. Myers and on to Vanderbilt Beach, FL. Today it stops at an industrial area called Eaton Park, FL - just a very few miles south of Lakeland. I saw a lot of Atlantic Coast Line phosphate drags come up that line, through Lakeland and on to Tampa. Great memories of days long gone.

That was a really nice video. All kinds of things going on! Mrs. Tooth is pretty good with a camera herself. Birds are one of my other favorite things, so I certainly appreciate you showing them too.

Thanks for the shout out to the Detroit Tigers. They’re probably training whilst you were visiting and film Florida. Loving the two camera POVs

Great good made video, Mrs & Mr Jaw Tooth.
See i good that Amtrak has a CSX locomotive.
Not enough power for the train to Miami and back to New York. And a railroaddiamond in the middle of the city i find that 👍👌🆗.

It seems that Amtrak has the most consistently well tuned train horns.
