I road this train with my brother living in Canon City ... a beautiful ride, and nice, repectful people, too. I lived in Canon City 1975 -1979. No tourist train back then.
My dad ran passenger trains for the B&O. I would ride with him, and one trip had the train back into DC union station. No radios then, a signal line with a flagman standing on the rear platform, an air- hose with a button on the end in his hand. Press the button, and the release of pressure in the signal line would activate a small whistle in the cab of the locomotive. The train about the same length as the one shown in this video. One toot clear. Dad releases the brake and opens the throttle, in reverse. Accelerates to 40 mph. Another single toot, another clear. Two toots, an approach, reduced speed to 25. Another two toots, another approach, now entering a complex of interlocking switches, the train making a twisty path through the cross-overs at 15 mph. Another two toots, dad sets some air, opens the throttle a bit. The locomotive passes the end of the platform, 5mph or so and slowing, Another two toots, pause, then one more. Dad cuts throttle and we stop. A few years later I talked to a yard-master who flagged that job as a young man. He described it as a butt-clinching experience.
Great video, love the sound of the EMD. I watched it twice! I Shazammed the music track, it said Song Song by Arsussy bit it wouldn’t download on RUclips Music or Apple Music for some reason 🤔
@@gm16v149 this is a song that came with my editing software (Filmora). The name of the song is “Blue City Lights”, but Filmora doesn’t say who the artist is… sorry. Hopefully the song name helps you a little!
6:15 What approach signal? When the train is moving videouthe windows. Not so much time on the locomotivengineer when he is taking. When talking abouthe Rock Mountain Big Horn Sheep scaling the cliffs, show the rocks.
This is the old Tennessee Pass line that UP abandoned in the late 90s, it was one of the most dangerous passes in the US, Royal Gorge operates the only active section on the line.

Wow, love those pictures of the rock cliffs.
This is an awesome train excursion. While short, only about two and a half hours, it is most enjoyable.

@@RealRailfan Yes, the one at the end. I was hoping to download it from RUclips Music or iTunes but for some reason I couldn’t.

Did you still have access to the open air car? or you practically forfeit it since you can't physically access the open air car from the locomotive?
What state is this in ?.
@@MichaelVanWeerd Colorado.

@@Nderak this is regular gauge. They said UP has ran trains this way.
