    I rode this train way back in 1965! I had a fabulous holiday, staying in Wilderswil near Interlaken. I will never forget the experience at the Jungfraujoch at 3454m looking down the Aletsch glacier. Thsnks for the video!

    Best train ride I've ever had in my life! Only the line was a lot less developed when I made the journey. Wondrous place, breath-taking vistas, amazing engineering.
    The Swiss are damn good at building railways - through anything and at any angle.

    You are raising my excitement level! For the last several weeks, you have been taking all of the trips that I plan to make in August, including this one. I've reserved my seat!. I plan to visit as many places as I can during my one-week trip to the Jungfrau Valley, including cruises on the Thunersee and Brienzersee. Thank you for this video as I know now that I have to change trains As I haven't been in Europe since 1986, I am SO looking forward to this trip.

      *Please note that you don’t necessarily need to change the train at Eigergletscher station* . There are direct trains from Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfraujoch and vice a versa. Read the display at the station and inside the train monitor to be better informed. You will also receive announcements inside the train in English. Hoping for a great weather during your stay time here so that you can enjoy maximum...🍀🤞🏼

    3 times thanks!
    1 _ This is a valuable geological visit of the inner part of the Eiger mountain: see for instance between 16:25 and 16:27 the thin vein of yellow quartzite.
    2 _ The full video of the tunnel shows clearly the horizontal and vertical alignment of the line, together with some landmarks: the Eismeer station, the Eigerwand station with its 3 big windows on the wall, the Stollenloch at 16:15, a possible emergency exit for climbers in difficulty.
    3 _ That remains me a train ascent without the descent in March 2003, because it was the start of 3 marvelous days of ski touring: Mönchsjoch, Grünhornlücke, Lötschenlücke, and finally Blatten, with 2 nights in the Konkordia Hütte. Going midnight to the loo, which is a separate construction from the refuge, I experienced the only time of my life, the sight of the zodiacal light. Over the Aletschhorn. After this trip, the dream continues with all the photos from then.

    Been to Wengen skiing in the early 90's with parents and brother. What an experience, the train journey up to the face of the Eiger. My 81 year old dad has skied Wengen virtually the same week for the past 20+ years, except 2019 when my mum had been in hospital and obviously 2021, NO ski season. Skied in Wengen in 2020, returned home 2 weeks before lockdown. He has also been during the summer. Same hotel everytime, he could have almost booked his room the previous year. I applied for a job in that hotel before dam brexit, they remembered my dad very well.

    Second to last time I returned from Jungfraujoch to Wengen, I almost threw up and had to take several headache pills! Be careful with how long you're staying up there, the altitude sickness is a real danger. Better to go up to Jungfraujoch after a couple of days of acclimatization in Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, or even better, Wengen or Mürren. But despite this, they remain my favorite mountains in Europe!

    • @AKSense
      @AKSense  5 месяцев назад +12

      Yes, altitude sickness is real and some suffer more than others. Acclimatizing at intermediate altitude villages helps a lot ✌🏻

    • @alastairorr6318
      @alastairorr6318 5 месяцев назад +1

      Slight problem, Wengen is at quite low altitude. That is why it struggles for snow at times these days.

      Yes, I went up back in around 2003. I was quite taken aback by the thinness of the air at the summit, and was not surprised when I was told anyone with a pacemaker was not permitted to travel above Kline Schidegg. Walking down the passsgeway to the glacier and ice display I had to take it easy.

    • @danielschlatter7606
      @danielschlatter7606 3 месяца назад

      Acclimatizing at an altitude of ar least 1600 m is not only recommanded, it‘s mandatory! I have seen Japanese tourist arrivin directly from Lucerne to Zermatt walking through the village to Klein Matterhorn Cableway and up to the Klein Matterhorn in approx 1 h (alt. 3400 m) and collapsing at the arrival. But they were up in the mountains at least…😂😂😂

    • @wyqtor
      @wyqtor 3 месяца назад

      @@danielschlatter7606 Klein Matterhorn is actually the highest mountain top accessible by cable car in Europe, at over 3800 m. So it can be quite a serious effort on the organism. This year I have risked a cable car trip up the Aiguille du Midi after staying for 2 days in Chamonix at 1000 m. I didn't have anything, so the experience may vary even for the same person. But I did take a vasodilating medicine beforehand as a precaution.

    It is very strange that at Kleine Scheidegg you have to change to another train because the two lines to Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald have unfortunatelly been constructed with an 800 millimeter gauge. And at these two stations you have to change the train once again because the rest of the track to Interlaken is using 1000 mm track once again. This makes direct trains from Interlaken to Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfraujoch impossible. Let us hope they change the tracks in the middle section one day to end this crazy gauge mess.

    • @peterdegelaen
      @peterdegelaen 5 месяцев назад +1

      Why does it matter? Why on earth is this important? The track gauge is not the only difference. The train from Kleine Scheidegg to the Jungfrau Joch uses three phase electric power (whch is pretty rare) while the trains from the Kleine Scheidegg to Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen use single phase electric power.

    25 years ago I visited Jungfraujoch caught the early bird train to summit December 1999, on the way train stopped briefly at Eiger Station for those like to have brief look out where glass doors are, that lead to North Face wall of Eiger. Do trains still make stop on up direction to Jungfraujoch?
    The early bird trip on 1st train day to Jungfraujoch get to sphinx observatory watch sunrise above Italian side of the Alps fluffy white clouds awesome experience well worth 4am start from Reichenbach Im kandertal get summit. See ice tunnels walk briefly on shoulder of Jungfrau. Glacier trekking didn't have time for but love go back do things mist

      Yes, Jungfrau train stops at two stations with window viewing platforms while going up

    Why is it built like that? With the raw rock tunnel exposed?

    How is it that you have to change of train at Eigergletscher station ?

    • @AKSense
      @AKSense  5 месяцев назад

      Because we didn’t board the direct train to Kleine Scheidegg and took the alternate connection. Direct as well as via (internal) stop at Eigergletscher, both types of trains run between Jungfraujoch and Kleine Scheidegg. Follow the directions given at the stations.

      @@AKSense of course, but limited service between Eigeegletscher and Jungfeaujoch did not exist the last time I went there (of course it's s dating back a few years) and I didn't find it in the timetables feom the official website

      @tontonbeber4555 Since the inauguration of new *Eiger Express cable car* to Eigergletscher in Dec. 2020, it is a routine operation.

    0:29 - the caption on the screen should read "...a 1000 mm/ 1 metre gauge..." I suppose?
    1:00 - it's "1.4 km", not "kms" - you don't add "s" after the unit; "plurality" is contained in the number itself. It's like with "5 thousand dollars" - you don't say "5 THOUSANDS dollars, do you?

    Am I right to assume water dripping through is NOT good?

    • @AKSense
      @AKSense  5 месяцев назад

      Water seeping through the mountains/between the rocks is a natural thing. As safety remains one of the highest priorities in Switzerland, I won’t doubt the technical team of Jungfrau who always prioritizes the safety of human beings.

    It must have been hard for the guys who actually climbed up the mountain to hear that a railway was going to be built and you could then take a train up.

      It doesn't go all the way up, and the Jungfrau is still not an easy climb even from Jungfraujoch.

      It maybe…but Tiber isn’t in Europe. 😊*Jungfraujoch train station is the highest altitude train station in Europe*

    • @wyqtor
      @wyqtor 5 месяцев назад

      Higher, but not with such an impressive scenery, because Tibet is mostly a high-altitude plateau. The highest station in the world is actually on the Lhasa-Golmud railway, at Tanggula Pass (5200 m or so high).

    Nur als Info für die, die die Situation nicht kennen. Man muss am Eigergletscher nicht umsteigen, es fahren durchgängige Züge. Die Züge die am Eigergletscher enden, sind eigentlich für Fahrgäste gedacht, die mit dem Eiger Express ins Tal fahren.

    Wenn man sich das mal auf der Zunge zergehen lässt.. wie krass das eigentlich ist..
    Ich will da hoch..
    Ja dann kletter´doch..
    Mit nem Zug!
    Man kann da aber nicht einfach hoch fahren, zu steil..
    Dann nehmen wir eine Zahnradbahn..
    Okay..? Da oben ist aber noch Schnee, und Felsen und Lawinen!
    Wir nehmen einfach den Berg.. und machen.. ein Loch rein!..
    Okay...

    für diese tätigkeit kann heute firma kaum mehr personal finden. lokführer hat heute vorteile, er kann sich selbst alles aussuchen. wo auf welchen strecken man fahren will, zu welchen zeiten, und mit welchen lokomotiven. jobs wie dieser, meist in einem loch haben kein potential mehr, das gehört längst schon automatisiert. da sitzt dann am führerplatz ein großer eisbär aus stoff, der lacht immer😁

    Because of what the overhead wires look like, i could say its not a regular train. ITS A TROLLEYTRAIN

    • @andrewdarley8988
      @andrewdarley8988 2 месяца назад +3

      It has two paralell overhead wires because like the Gonergratbahn it runs on 3 Phase current. However the collection is by two half pantographs not trolley wheels.
