    It's always a treat watching that tonnage roll down the street. So play it safe and get out of the way or it's off to the dealership for a new car to pay. This much street running is almost like a Halloween candy overload but after a little rest you can come back for more. Sadly ever year we lose a bit more of it so catch it while you can. JT was truly enjoying it the lead shot where you let your car or truck follow the rails

      In 1960, we were visiting Aunt Gladys who owned a chili parlor (They lived upstairs of it) right next to a fire station. I was only 5 years old then. We were always running through Cincinnati on the way to Harlan County, KY and to Fort Knox where I was stationed from 74 - 77. Can't say as I remember seeing the stock yards. I do remember Union Station. We took the C&O to Cinci then Boarded the great grey L&N from Cinci to Corbin, Ky in 63. @@JawTooth

    I lived in Lawrenceburg, Indiana in the 50s and early 60s. IIRC it was the B&O back then. When my mom had business downtown my brother and I would sit on Williams St. and watch the trains. Yep, sat there by ourselves while mom shopped. In the mid 50s the locomotives were mostly steam but by 1960 or so they had all disappeared.

Street running ends just before diamond with Chicago Ft. Wayne & Eastern (running east / west between Ft. Wayne and Chicago. Wayne Martin was the head basketball coach at Moorehead after being head coach at Pikeville. I got to be friends with him while I was attending Mining Tech School at Pikeville College.

      @@verneord I went to Morehead from 79 - 83. For 3 years I could see the railroad from my dorm window. I barely remember anyone though. I went back in 85 to watch them remove the railroad. I rode in the locomotive on a rail train that was removing track

    I loved this one. We have no street running here in England UK. Lovely to see the various towns. La Grange seems the most attractive of the lot. I do not have a Passport so I cannot visit La Grange. I wish we had such attractive places here in the UK. Sadly greedy devlopers have destroyed most of our nice High Streets.

    Good afternoon Mr. Tooth. It's Jim down here in Portland TN. Just loved this one. Lot of stuff I haven't seen before. A couple of quick questions, the track that runs through La Grange runs from Cincinnati and Louisville, correct? And what is the name of that subdivision? If finance's permit me I want to plan a trip up there this summer. Thank you sir and keep up the good work. And say hi to Scott for me.

    • @JawTooth
      @JawTooth  6 месяцев назад +2

      Yes that is the Short Line or LCL Sub. It runs from Louisville to Cincinnati. There are on average about 8 trains every 24 hours and they just show up at any random time

      @@JawTooth Thank you sir. That sounds like the way it is here. All of our manifests that come south start off in Cincy and work Louisville and Memphis Junction in Bowling Green Ky before moving on down to Radnor yard in Nashville.

    Questions for you, or anyone else who might know - on the first 2 trains, the last car had what looked like splatter from the wheels almost all the way up the end of the car. What's that from, damp or wet coal dust? Another question - if the street needs to be re-paved, who does the work over the trackage? And since there's work going on, do the railroads take advantage of the opportunity to do track maintenance? None of the usual applies in these instances - can't visibly see a track problem, and since there are generally speed restrictions, there's not a lot of a derailment threat, which raises another question - how common are street running derailments? Goes to show ya, Brian - your videos, while generally innocuous, are sometimes thought-provoking!
