Thanks for this video, If AAA installed the battery it would have cost $135 plus tax. Instead, I went to Costco, bought a battery for $78 with tax, and followed this video. My total time working was less than 10 minutes. This video is very clear and I recommend it for anyone who wants to change out their battery,
You're lucky, I had a shit ton of white powder corrosion, especially on the positive, it took me ages to carefully wiggle the wires off the battery terminals.
Thank you so much for posting this video! I'd never done any car maintenance before (other than topping off fluids and checking my oil) and have never even changed a tire by myself before, yet this video helped me change out my own battery in less than hour! I cannot thank you enough for teaching me how to do this and for saving me hundreds of dollars!
Thank you so much for the video. I bought a S4 018 Bosch battery from Costco (approx £52) and then installed myself thanks to this video. You are helping people around the world. Thank you.
Thanks a lot for your video. With your simple easy to understand instructions I changed the battery in my 2006 Honda Accord in about 12 minutes with only a plier as I did not have any other tools. Great visual !
I did it in under a minute. My brother timed me at 47 seconds. I cheated I had the replacement battery already on a table and the one I took out I put on the same table.
Hi, i get bewildered by all the wires and components under the hood. But thanks you, I was able to replace the battery and save 10 pounds!. Your explanation was simple and clear. I did lose one of the securing clamps but managed to find it after a bit of rummaging. Cheers.
Update: As these models get older, don't expect it to be at all as easy as this video. In addition to the 10mm ratchet/socket you should probably also have some WD40, some long handled narrow pliers, and a honking regular screwdriver. Just did this on the side of the road in winter and thank god (and AH Parts dismantlers) I watched this video fist.
This is why: You actually leave both screws on and loosen them far enough so you can wrench one side out from the bottom followed by the other side. This is the easiest and fastest way. Also the most safe as you won't lose any screws or parts. I changed the same car battery in 47 seconds done perfect. Remember time is money.
Thank you so much🙏. I removed my Honda battery for charging but could NOT get where the plate rod bolts went. You have clearly identified where they go. I was trying the metal plate which is why it would not reach 😢. I was thinking of embarrassing going to a mechanic! Now I know its the casing base 👍.. Other RUclipsrs haven't bothered explaining it ! 😳
Just lift the battery with one hand and hold the wires back with the other hand. I'm use to lifting 500 pound boulders with one hand. I use to compete in the Carling O'Keefe world arm wrestling championships.
I followed your instructions for my 2013 Civic & they worked for that year as well. Thank you so much. This was my first auto repair/fix that I've ever attempted & you made it easy. I seriously appreciate the video. The only delay was that I had to order the socket wrench set from Amazon first. Thankfully I had free 2 day Prime shipping.
thank you so much need to change my civic...you should goto school to be an auto shop teacher...very clear and concise and easy the way you explain....
The first thing is you role down the drivers window then take the key out and have it in your pocket. That keeps you from accidentally locking yourself out, protects the ignition and when you hook the new battery you have the key handy to turn off the alarm if it goes off. Otherwise, liked the video 👍
This video works for 2012 model as well - you have to have that long socket - I did this job, and had to use old-school pliers - great video - he might have mentioned those plastic caps are not to be screwed - in the video, he doesn't finish the job - you need to put that 2nd cap on - I guess that goes without saying, though - great video - very useful
+700gsteak the black "bolt" he removes prior to him using the deep socket to remove the hold down...idk if the 2011 has two of them. my 2012 civic does have two.
Who was the moron at Honda that decided to make those plastic caps look like nuts? I ended up breaking one of mine trying to unscrew it. That plastic clip really should have just been pulled straight up and off the threaded rod.
Hi there, The reason we did that is because it is held on with pressure. Because it is threaded on to begin with, you need to unscrew it, but you can just push it back into place and the threads will catch it with its own pressure. Hope that makes sense?! If you tired to tighten it back down, it would just keep spinning and wouldn't make a difference. Thanks
For anyone wondering what are the easy things to change vs. what you ought not do yourself : Change the air filters, battery, spark plugs, light bulbs, and bumper covers by yourself. Especially with a bumper cover, you might save $800 or more vs. taking it to a body shop. Timing belt : Maybe. It depends on how skilled you are. Oil, transmission fluid, and other fluids : Don't bother trying to do this yourself. It is not worth it.
Oil change is very easy to do yourself too if you have the know-how. Its saved me a lot of money, all you need is a ratchet and an oil pan along with new oil and a new oil filter. Def worth the money saved if you have the time to spend.
Nice video. What I'd also recommend is, DON'T leave your keys in the ignition if disconnecting the battery as it may scramble the immobiliser and the car won't start.
YES!!!!, this happened at our shop. Very odd but it happened. Not only remove the keys but use a good memory saver. This is the kind we use, cheap and easy www.amazon.com/dp/B07KCN69LJ?ref=myi_title_dp
How difficult is it to replace the battery cable itself in these cars? I replaced the battery in my car and it still won't turn over. The alternator was checked and it was putting out power to the battery so u know that's good, and the battery itself is new so i know Thats good. I noticed corrosion on the positive cable starting so I'm going to replace that end and hope it fixes it. I'm not sure if it's the starter or not because there's times where it will struggle to turn over and just click, but then there's times where it will actually start the car and act as if nothing is wrong with the starter. So part of me is thinking there is further corrosion build up in the positive battery cable which is leading to the weak starter pull, making it sound like its going bad. So I'm thinking it's either that cable, or still possibly the starter.
Trying to do this in a foot of snow with the outside temperature at 25°F and having trouble getting the black plastic cover and battery to slide up because the cables are frozen solid and not flexible enough to allow enough clearance. Why did Honda think they needed all those damn harness clips securing the cables everywhere? Your video makes it look so easy but I can't get enough slack in.the cable to allow the cover or battery to pass up!
None of these videos mention the fact that you need to enter a code into the radio after you change a battery. I have a 2006 Honda Civic DX-G and my code was 11143 if it helps someone out. Maybe others can post their codes as well, I think there are only a few.
Thanks for video, when you remove the black nut that holding positive wire, you used ratchet to unscrew, but when you put back you didn't screw though , you just pushed it, am I missing anything?

Hell yeah bro
Think I can do it after watching this video 🤣 may have to come watch it couple more times but think w ratchet set I can get it done
You're lucky, I had a shit ton of white powder corrosion, especially on the positive, it took me ages to carefully wiggle the wires off the battery terminals.
Thank you for the video. With your help I managed to replace the battery. I have to admit, I was scared the car will explode :D
Thank you for your help - as a 20 year old female who does not know car shit I was able to do it myself
wow - one of the few videos that have explained WHY we do the ground/negative first. very thorough, much appreciated brother!

Very helpful!! With a dead battery in the middle of -2oF, this tutorial came perfect!
Exactly the video i was looking to find. Will use as a reference as i show my daughter how to change out in a 2008 Civic Hybrid.
Very well presented and clear instructions. No mention of how to deal with lost radio codes etc.
Just reset them from your own brains' memory.
Thank you very much for this video! The battery in our Civic died today and this video was very helpful!

Jane, what about the memory or dashboard setting ? Did they create any issue? I am planning for my 2012 civic
All you need is a crescent wrench about a 2 dollar purchase if its made in China.
Thank you! I just successfully replaced my battery while referencing your video. 👍🏻

Yep,great video,very helpful.
Thanks bro im here year 2021 needed someone to teach me
nothing said about resetting the electronics , also I always put a little grease on the battery terminals.
Thank you for this video! Super helpful.
Great tutorial, worked perfect, ty!
Very very helpful thank you sir

The code for the radio for my civic is actually in the lining of my glovebox
Yeah, check your glove box. If you're lucky like me, the owners kept the paper car manual along with the Card with the radio code printed on it.
That actually happens almost every time your battery dies.
Thx, what about the alarm system? Thanks
Use a good memory saver and you won't have to. This is the kind we use, cheap and easy www.amazon.com/dp/B07KCN69LJ?ref=myi_title_dp

Thanks was easy ....!! 15 minutes done
You could put some grease on there to make the connection waterproof.
Thank you for posting this is helpful! :)
Appreciate the video. I'll be working on this over the weekend.
excellent demo. Thanks.
Great video
Do you need a second car to jump start the new battery?
T T no
Good man - thanks for this.
Awesome! Millions of people can save the money and hassle of going to a mechanic now.
Thank you for the video
Alam went on after installing new battery on 2010 Honda Civic. Locked all doors but alarm continues. What shall I do ?
lol how is it now?
When the alarm/horn goes off, use the key remote to disarm, and stop the horn sounding. Hope this works for you.
Should always use a good memory saver to prevent this. www.amazon.com/dp/B07KCN69LJ?ref=myi_title_dp
I done everything exactly as said. The last step when I try place black terminal in battery my car starts honking, what I do wrong
If you have a remote key lock, just lock and unlock the car with it. The honking will stop.
Anyone got an opinion on what the best battery is? My Civic uses a 51-R battery.
EverStart MAXX-51R Car Battery
When I try to do put back the negative battery terminal my alarm starts going off what can I do to prevent that my controller doesn't work so how will I prevent that
Hey Brandon, did you ever figure out why you car alarm went off when you put the negative battery terminal back on?

Disarm the alarm, by pressing your remote key to lock/unlock. Worked out for me. Hope it works for you.

Where can u find the clips that hold the battery wire To the battery tray?

What are the tools that I need ? And where can I get them ?
One crescent wrench is all you need.
thanx man! :D thats a clean looking civic!
Great video thank you sir.
Use a memory saver.. saves you from a headache especially if you don’t have radio code

how to solve? honda fit 2014 key battery alarm in dashboard
the more cca that you can get in your battery the longer it will last, and the less the alternator will have to charge ,
THanks very helpful for me, a girl, I can do this now.
:D Hope to make more videos soon!
Thanks
thanks brother
just sent this video to my daughter whose battery just died. and she never wanted to learn how I did when she was at home. #adulting
Don't you have to know the code to your radio because your radio won't work after you disconnect the battery and reconnect the new one
