- This is a 24-Hour Military MRE Review I've been looking forward to! We are taste testing a German Bundeswehr Einmannpackung Federal Defence Individual Combat Ration. This food pack is designed to feed one man for one day. It came out of the gates swinging with a delicious breakfast but unfortunately I found the other meals to be a little lackluster. Regardless this is still world class Army food.
Thanks for watching!

German Army MRE Review | 24-Hour EPA Bundeswehr Einmannpackung Federal Defence Combat Ration One Man - Развлечения
The biscuits are a food item only in disguise. In fact, they are a deadly weapon against the enemy, since you can kill someone if you can throw them hard enough...😂😂🍻🇩🇪🇺🇸
They'e also also good as inlets for the Splitterschutzweste, no pesky rifle calibre will penetrate those!
They are Called Panzerkeks For a Reason
Ah yes, the good old Panzerplatten.
How true. We use them for target practice 😂😂
We used to put some boot polish cream between two of the tankcookies. Was a great mixture of firestarter or smokebomb. 😅
You wondered why there is no heating device and no cutlery contained in this 24h Pack.
This is because the Bundeswehr Soldiers have got stainless steel cutlery Kits (called "Feldbesteck") as part of their personal equipment.
The Feldbesteck is reusable and therefore quite sturdy and it consists of a knife, a fork, a spoon and a simple can opener.
Also they are equipped with an Esbit Kocher (= reusable foldable fuel tablet cooker ...whereas Esbit is a german brand name for hexamine tablets)
it's a Flöffel
@@Panni-yq2vn 😂😂🍻
So they still use the Esbit cooker? I was wondering, since the main meals are not in those flat aluminium packages anymore. How do you heat the meals-in-a-bag with that? Gruß aus Hamburg
@@Panbaneesha yes they still use it. The meals which come in a plastic bag will be put in a water filled canteen (which is also personal equipment to the soldier) and then heated on the esbit burner.
But as you can read on Bundeswehr's HP, they are researching on a new way to heat meals, but haven't got any conclusion until now.
@@loganfive4478 I can see why the method with the water-filled pot wouldn't be perfect - probably very time and fuel consuming on the little cooker. Thank you for your answer.
These bags were a temporary solution from 2018 only. Before they were simple plain cardboard boxes, and now they are cardboard boxes again. But now they are bigger as the old ones, because they contain more stuff than they did when I was serving in the Bundeswehr. The type of the EPA only changes the two main menues, the rest is always the same on the types I to V. The types VI to XIV are called EPA light, because they are lightweight. The meals are partially freeze dried, so you need to add water to the meals themself. The EPA should provide you food for at least 24h. Usually they hold up a bit longer.
A reusable Esbit stove, stainless steel utensils (fork, knife, spoon and a holder that serves as bottle and can opener) and an aluminium mess kit are part of the soldiers equipment provided when joining the Bundeswehr. Esbit fuel is provided by the supply NCO of the company.
The old biscuits were nicknamed "armour plates". Good with the canned cheese spread, but also good in combination with the shoe polish to start a camp fire.
The coffee in the old ones was nicknamed "the German neutron bomb, human dies and the cup remains intact". And the instant cold drinks were, and are again, exotic (multi-vitamin, with a some kind of orange flavour) and grapefruit. In the old ones was in addition always a can of pumpernickel bread. In the new ones is also a small bag, in the size of the coffee and tea package, with instant vegetable broth.
Salt and pepper is all you get as spices in German EPA.
The different types of regular EPA:
I: Ravioli with with mushrooms in sauce // Indian rice casserole, dessert: semolina pudding with fruits
II: Goulash with potatoes // Cevapi with rice or in alternative ravioli with mushroom in sauce, dessert: fruit cocktail in light syrup
III: Hamburger (patty) in tomato sauce // south-american vegetable chili, dessert: semolina pudding with fruits
IV: lentil stew with Mettwurst (same sausage type you had in the bean stew) // spiral noodles with ground meat in sauce
V: Tortellini (pork stuffed) in tomato sauce // rice with turkey, calamaris and shrimps, dessert: fruit cocktail in light syrup.
Thank you. In-depth comment.
Buddy your absolutely up there with the legendary Steve 1989 ! You definitely eat all your MREs and don’t waste food. I respect that very much. I hate seeing these other channels heat and open food only to waste it. I often think there is some hungry soldier out there that would eat everything cold. Your doing great 👍🏻
Thanks brother! Steve is in a league of his own. I always do my best to cover everything and nothing is ever wasted!
You earned the iron heart after receiving that wound to your thumb
4:08 Everybody (Soldier) has knive, spoon, fork and a small cooking system with them
"Hat noch jemand Esbit?"
Food tastes in Germany are very different between north and south, which is why the food ends up being on the bland side as the lowest common demoninator between polar opposites ends up being somewhat wood-flavoured. Where most Germans agree is the breakfast, which is why you found the breakfast selection more tasty.
That's why you always carry extra pepper and Maggi in your backpack!
The French know how to do rations I don't think anything else compares
Those EPa´s are "just" made for the exercise "Cold Response" in Norway due to a higher demand for rations.
Very interesting. Thanks buddy!
EPA's are the standard ration in the Germasn army. They're not 'custom made' for any exercise. We had similar rations in the 90s
@@dschoene57 No m8, these were made exclusively for that maneuver. Thats why theyre made by "economat des armees" believe it or not, but usually the germans make their own rations instead of the french.
@@meinnase You could be right, actually. EPAs came in cardboard boxes, not plastic pouches, but then, I served in the early 90s so things might have changed since then.
@@dschoene57 They're still using cardboard, those platic bags were an exception
Man, what a haul of food! Great review, my friend! Keep them coming!
The cutlery and heater are personal items that every soldier has.
That Large Jiggely Piece is a Piece of Pork Bacon Fat :)
Germans often add it into Bean Stews so the Fat of it is Cooked out into the Soup and thus improves the Taste :)
Its Edible but many People also just Fish it out of the Soup afterwards as its main Purpose is to Improve the Soups Taste.
Then again. In the Military I would assume its a Great Source of Fat. So throwing it out would be a bit of a waste.
8:42 they are called "Panzerkekse". armored cookies lol
I missed this one earlier, RR. My bad. I have tried the boxed version, but not the bag type. Plenty of good food still. Those lids will get you, I know, LOL. Solid components in this meal. I am glad you enjoyed the majority of items. Nicely done, Peace, John.
I think that was my first cut from a ration lol. Good thing everything I needed to stop the bleeding was included
Man the German Soldat eats well.
Oh no you’ve got me binge watching your reactions. Better book some time off work. Great job!
I just found this channel, subscribed! Great content 😊
I don’t have pate often but I do love it, definitely a treat to have that in a ration. Overall it looks great, simple meals but filling.
I just recently discovered the pleasures of pork liver pate. But, it tastes like the braunschweiger I grew up eating. Good stuff! Excellent on crackers or in a sandwich.
Just found your channel off my recommendations and I’m glad I did! Been binging your vids! Great job on them. I’m thoroughly enjoying your reviews! 😁
Glad you found it!! Thanks so much 😁
That looks great tasting .
Damn, just watching you eat the patè and the "creamy pork" has made me very hungry!
Now I'm craving peach jam! 😭
Really great review :)
“Nutty…creamy….crunchy….the combination of strong and light tastes…”. Dude, it’s an MRE, literally the bare minimum food to keep you alive in the field.
even the itallians had boring canned chicken
Excellent review
That breakfast looked amazing. The other meals at least looked filling.
Awesome review RR
Great review
Hi! Great Review!
The Dates on the outside of the Packaging are saying:
Upper line: Packaged at November, 18th 2020 (181120) und the lower line says: MHD (Mindest Haltbarkeits Datum), which is the "Best before" Date.
So, you've been absutely right!
Best from Austria!
3:11 Yes, they use a relatively free translation. Literal translation: Kaffeeweißer = coffee whiter. Not sure why not translated as coffee creamer.
I wish we got these MREs, they look way better than ours
Great video rr ration looked pretty nice as well u sold me with that peach jelly
Thanks brother! It was fantastic stuff, even my fiancé liked it.
"Disappointing." "Mediocre." "Kinda Bland." "Underseasoned." Aaah yes, the german cuisine I know and love. No village restaurant where I live probably could've done better.
Dude, where do you live?? Move to Baden, seriously.
I wonder how the Prussians, WW1, WW2, and West-East Germans morale would have been if they had access to these MREs in the past. They go Koo Koo for Koko Puffs at the 4 coffees.
Your on par with steve1989 very impressed 👍
@ 12:11 mirror me in reality „Wow that american MRE chili con carne is the most bland thing I‘ve ever had eaten besides of drywall“
Cheers - happy to see you like the european stuff. I was thinking about creating gourmet MRE‘s with batches of my homemade chili plus local austrian items that are awesome in their taste.
German hard cookies have an old German tradition of dual use. They are so hard because of their high fat content. Why? This also makes them very good long burn.
German engineering is in everything!
Damn these packs are insanely good by a design standpoint.
Every German soldier has his own personal rationheater and utensils issued to him.
Very nice review! The ration could definitely benefit from some pepper packages at least - German food usually comes out a bit bland because quite a good part of the pop (mostly north Germany) prefers it that way, but it gets really good when you add some more spices! Also, the sausages were honestly an absolute shame coming from the country of sausages...
Thats a YUGE one Readiness !
Great review man. A lot of food but the fat in the last main no thank you 😂😂
If you can think of endless descriptions and a great deal to say about a ration pack this guy does it. Eating it would be quicker.
Love ur bullet tank
I'm a little late but the date on the front
Chargen means the packing ID and Verpackungsdatum is the date when the food/MRE was packed.
expiration date = Verfallsdatum
The one in plastics were only available temporarily because they had some issues with manufacturing their normal ones in cardboard. Also, these have been made/assembled in France. They will not be available anymore in the future.
A huge fans of your ration. Would love if you could make a video about asean region military ration.
I've wanted to get my hands on a ration from that part of the world for a long time. They are always so expensive when they pop up though.
The mains appear the equivalent to the US mains. No FRHs. I guess they boil their mains? As always, outstanding review! Thank you for sharing. Blessings 🙏🏼👍🏼
In the Bundeswehr you have a reusable mess kit, containing a can for the food, spoon, fork, knive and can opener. In addition we also carry a little foldable stove with some solid fuel to heat your meals.
@@patta8388 Dunke
Every German soldier probably carries "Esbit" fuel tablet heater and "Gabel+ Löffel=Göffel" fork and spoon combination utensil.
🙂yes we can, regarts from Germay. I just ordert some mre's. Wenn i was a kid i get some, i loved those dryfrozen fruits, cake and those crackers 🥰
Good packs but I prefer the boxed ration pack of a few years ago, the type with canned bread
Esbit stoves are a standard issue item for the German Army.
Only had one of these, a bit bland but the sides were great.
Nicely reviewed!
These are so cool 😮 are they sold online in America?
5:01 Even Steve doesn't get this right. We don't have much cane sugar over here, but mostly beet sugar. I definitely can taste the difference🤗
Try them side by side.
Thanks for that man I live in Germany and I’m just about to get one american mre can you reccoment?
One man package
Thats more than anyone should eat in a day 😅
Looks great. I haven't had one if these in a long while. Did the price skyrocket?
I think it was like 50 euro
@@ReadinessRations varies around 35-50
You handled the near amputation of your thumb in a very manly way. I hope it healed and left a stump that will accept a prosthesis well. ❤
Could you try the self heating South Korean MRE. No idea how you get your hands on them.
If I ever obtain one I will.
Steve1989 would be so proud!
A mixture of smaller tins and packets of food is good.
You can get exactly what you want by trading amongst your mates.
Do the biscuits still burn tho?
Hello fellow ration collectors these rations are made and packaged in Spain. I still like the boxed rations better there's more food and I like canned bread in the boxed rations Bill 🇨🇦
You need some superglue for that cut.
A bore cleaning swab and some duct tape. I've done that at the shooting range. 😎
Whatever was on that wet wipe caused it to clot pretty quickly.
by the way...........! @ 14:40
You ate "THE" standard meat dish in the German army "Gulash with noodles"
there is a real life "Running Gag" in the German army
what's to eat this week? "
monday : " Goulash with noodles! "
Tuesday: "Noodles with goulash!"
Wednesday : "the leftovers from the previous days"
Thursday: "Goulash and Pasta Salad"
Friday : Pasta salad with "pieces of meat"
and yes, I experienced this exact same thing on a maneuver in Denmark in the 90s, because the "kitchen company" arrived 3 days later at the barracks in Denmark
and what does the (in German, kitchen Bull called) the stupid OX do? cook up the EPA.... we were about to lynch the chef......! what did we eat as a "change"???? Ravioli cooked in red wine and vodka
I will never forget that ;)
Needs Senna Tablets and half a Toilet Roll to make it complete.😂
Where could someone find these?
I tried to buy one of these on eBay but not one of my payment options was accepted, guess that seller is not allowed to ship to the US
I can sale and send you one straight fro Germany
@@housil I get paid at the end of the month, would take you up on that then, I just want one without pork
@@KaylynnStrain Sorry for delayed reply, just came back from vacation. Shoot me a message when you want one. No pork is no problem.
@@housil hope you had a good tgrip
Are their Rations made by France ? Curious
Okay german mre seem delicious and has alot of foods then the rest of the world
Wow that’s huge
That’s what she said…😂. Because it’s a big ration obviously…
Huge ration
Tried to buy one of these and customs took all the meat out and left me jam and crackers,……. I guess i am safe now to eat healthy food at taco bell and burger king. Whew that was a close one, good job customs, Mre mountain wouldn’t refund very expensive mistake. Would have been fun to try
Dang dude that sucks!!
Expected sauerkrauts
Can you check out the Romanian MRE
I'd love to if I could ever come across one.
1:20 Verpackungsdatum = packing date
MHD = Mindesthaltbarkeitsdatum = best before date
2:39 Doesn't make sense in german either🤗
I guess it is supposed to read Schinkenstreichwurst, but someone messed up.
How did you start doing rashin videos ?
Buy Ration, film eating, upload to RUclips
British 24-hour ration packs come in the same plastic bag and most of the contents are from the same company as the German ration pack.
This is a 2018 "special" though, we're back to the cardboard boxes we had before.
You know that RUclips doesn't like blood, even your own lol! If you ever acquire any liver pate that you can live without please pass it along to me, pate is ridiculously hard to find in here in the U.S.. Thanks brother!
Mmmm ... freeze-dried sauerkraut
beans and wieners need honey and mild bbq sauce.
Ouch! A flesh wound! 😢
Yea, in the german army every soldier has their own little field stove/cooker and field cutlery.
No body does it better than Steve 1989
Agreed. Too bad he hasn't posted in a year.
I hope creamed ham catches on in America
It's called deviled ham and comes in a can. Only the older generation eat it.
Pasta meat should never be chunky. Expecially in a MRE. You are in a war zone or in survival situation and the last thing you want is to have meat strands stuck between your teeth. Minced meat (ground meat) should be the only way in survival situations. Trying to pick the meat between your teeth and focusing on thinking don't go well together like chunky beef and strands in your teeth.
Pronounced Ein Mann.One Man
You were indeed right, german troops get their messkit, etc. issued seperatly, so the MREs only need to contain the actual food.
German soldiers take a esbitstove and a set of fork, spoon and knife with them
Better than Reis mit Scheiss.
Liver with blood
BTW, spoiled kids.
That package should last for a soldier in a combat for 24 hrs.
You wouldn't have time for combat while eating all this food the whole day.
Good point.
US rations are so stingy with the cracker and bread items compared to most of the rest of the international MREs
There's not even a dehydrated bratwurst you can rehydrate in there you couldn't even put any hydrated dehydrated do rehydrate sauerkraut are you kidding me no Brockeworst or anything hot dog even?
?Liverwurst?
The fat was probably added for flavor.
Looks like cat food or spam
It always depends on the purpose of the mission. Depending where you are, you get better food. But it looks like it's pretty practical: Doesn't have to look good as long as you get enough for the whole day 🤔
no toilet paper though
